"AfterMASH" is a spin-off of the acclaimed TV series "MASH," focusing on the post-war lives of several characters from the original show, including Sherman Potter, Maxwell Klinger, and Father Mulcahy. Set in a veteran's hospital in Missouri, the series shifts from the warzone to the challenges and adjustments of peacetime, blending comedy with issues faced by veterans. Despite its initial success and high expectations, "AfterMASH" struggled to capture the essence and popularity of its predecessor, leading to its cancellation after two seasons, leaving a legacy as an ambitious but ultimately unsuccessful attempt to continue the "MASH" narrative.Another M*A*S*H spinoff was W*A*L*T*E*R in which Radar leaves the farm to become a police officer.

Your Faith Journey - Finding God Through Words, Song and Praise

As happens every year on this first Sunday in Lent, we begin our forty-day Lenten journey and we encounter Jesus experiencing forty days in the desert. In Mark’s telling of the story, we find Jesus is driven or pushed into the wilderness. The gospel writer tells us Jesus has just been baptized by John, an experience in which he saw the sky violently split open and God’s Spirit descend upon him in the form of a gentle dove. He has just heard God’s voice say to him, “You are my Son, chosen and marked by my love. You are the pride of my life.” Then, immediately following this experience, the same Spirit that descended upon him as a gentle dove, turns into a dive bomber or mac truck and pushes Jesus out into the wild. We are not given any hint or clue that Jesus chose to do this of his own volition. The writer of Mark’s gospel makes it clear that Jesus was forcefully driven into the wilderness by the Spirit, pushed there by something outside of himself. Now, the wilderness is not a safe place. It is a treacherous, wild place with tricky, barren terrain. It is a place where one experiences the burning rays of the beating sun, the hungry wolves and wild beasts, and something many of us do not like to face – solitude. We can probably surmise that, like most of us, when Jesus faced solitude, he faced his own inner voices. Mark tells us that, having been driven into the wilderness, Jesus was tempted or tested by Satan. Jesus did not choose to go into the wilderness, and he did not choose to be tempted. Beyond this, Mark simply does not give us many details about Jesus’ forty-day experience. Unlike the other gospels, we are not given any scripted arguments between Jesus and Satan and no details about hunger for food or power. All we are told is that Jesus was in the wilderness for forty days, was tempted by Satan, was with the wild beasts and the angels waited on him. Yes, the angels took care of him. God’s presence was there for him and with him throughout that forty-day experience. And, as we begin our forty-day Lenten journey, we remember Jesus’ experience and we are given the promise that God is with us as we face our own challenges in the wilderness experiences of our lives. The wilderness or the desert is not only a physical, geographical place. It is also a spiritual place where we find multiple spots to engage in self-examination, struggle, and repentance. It is a place where we often discover we must face ourselves. And, the wilderness is not a place where we eagerly volunteer to go. Quite frankly, we do not choose to experience times of temptation, struggle, sorrow, or pain, let alone deep self-examination. We do not go out actively seeking challenging situations or hardships. Now, I do not for one minute believe that God causes us to experience hardship or suffering in life. I do not believe that God causes us any kind of misery to teach us a lesson or punish us in any way. That is not the kind of loving God Jesus proclaims. Yet, we do face times of struggle, trial, and misery. In fact, for many of us, this past year of living through a pandemic has been such an experience. However, just as God was present to Jesus during those trying forty days, God is present to us in all of our challenges in life. God is present with us and to us in those times when a marriage comes to an end, those times when we find our children struggling, those times when a loved one dies, those times when a loved one struggles with addiction, those times when we lose a job, those times of hardship when we cannot sense a glimmer of hope, those times when we as a nation and as a global community live through a ravaging pandemic that brings enormous death and sorrow, those times when our experience seems void of the presence of God. God is there, present to us in all the struggles and temptations we face, in all of the chaos and pain. And, God is at work in the depth of those experiences, transforming them, bringing order out of chaos and bringing forth newness and life. As we intentionally take time for reflection and repentance during this Lenten season, we begin in the wilderness. Lent can be a time to take stock in our lives, and to really begin to come clean about those things that tempt us. The wilderness is a place where we can let go of all pretense and allow ourselves to be honest and vulnerable. This wilderness experience can allow us to take a real look at the way we try to hide our pain, take a look at the perfectionism that plagues us, the competitive nature that drives us, the denial that is epidemic within us and around us, and take a look at the way our brokenness shapes our entire being and way of life. This wilderness can be a place where we find the freedom to confess the messiness of our lives. And, the truth of the matter is, the wilderness experience is not just a Lenten experience. Whether we like it or not, the wilderness is the place where we live out our lives. When I was young, a time that increasingly seems to have been long, long ago in some far away place, I used to love watching MASH. Those of you who watched that show might remember one episode where Father Mulcahy, the unit’s priest, tried to talk with a wounded soldier who had been severely traumatized by what he witnessed on the front lines of war. When this soldier finds out Father Mulcahy had not once even been close to where the fighting was taking place, the soldier decides they just cannot talk. You see, he had no interest in hearing the pious platitudes of a person who had not been on the front lines, so he felt he could not begin to relate to the priest. Later in the episode, after Father Mulcahy does come under enemy fire and is forced to perform an emergency medical procedure on a different soldier, even as shells are exploding all around him, the first soldier then welcomes Father Mulcahy after all. Now they have a common frame of reference, and now they can talk. And, it is then that Father Mulcahy gets it and understands why the soldier had not been able to relate to him. In the person of Jesus, God has entered the front lines of our human existence. In the person of Jesus, God has already been in the wilderness. In the person of Jesus, God has entered into the wilderness of our lives and engaged the sharp, jagged edges of this broken, sorrow filled world. God does walk with us through all our experiences in the wild. Jesus walks with each one of us through the front lines of our lives. As he walks with us in the wilderness, we discover we can let go of the sinful, false self, be honest and vulnerable, and entrust our messy, broken, mixed up lives to God. And, guess what? It is then that we finally discover our true selves. Then, we really discover what the grace of God is like. Then, we begin to discover more deeply what it means to be named as God’s beloved child, to be made God’s very own. Then, we begin to discover more deeply that our entire life is enveloped and bathed in God’s grace. And, then we begin to discover how immeasurably we are loved by the God of all creation.

Why I Am Antiwar

Welcome to Why I am antiwar, @antiwarpodcast with your host @mdvet4 This the podcast that shares experiences and stories that lead us to question war or see the value of peace. here is one of those stories As a child I loved all things military in part because I knew My father is a Vietnam veteran. He was raised catholic and was an altar boy. He never raised us in a religion. It was not until middle school I became aware that our families atheism or agnosticism was unusual. I asked my father why we never went to church and he explained rather cryptically that immediately after returning from Vietnam he went to Mass and a fight broke out in the parking lot as people were fighting to leave. I surmised that religion ceased to have the effect it once did for him. I think on some level I knew there was more to the story and it must’ve been more related to his experiences in vietnam than he let on. Later he told me decided it was best to let his children choose their religion (or not) rather than be raised into one. The fact he was a veteran and a DOD civilian employee seemed to foster my interest in all things military and this included every war movie and TV show I could find. I particularly enjoyed M.A.S.H. It was in syndication for most of my childhood and over the course of several years I watched every episode more than once. 8th or 9th grade I struggled with creating a sense of self identity and militarism became a part of of my identity but I also “tried out” catholicism as an identity, so I found the role of Father Mulcahy in MASH to be intriguing. In spite of the very obvious antiwar messages of many of the films and tv shows, Antiwar art often has a reverse effect. The military story lines and likable characters initially only enhanced my affinity towards the military. Unfortunately These stories do not serve their purpose until the audience is ready read hear them. However the Dear sis episode of Mash was an exception that seemed to resonate with me. Most of the story centers around the chaplains search for meaning and purpose in the midst of the war. It comes to a close with a Christmas party and the key characters show their appreciation of the Catholic Chaplain by singing a round of “dona nobis pacem” a latin prayer for peace. I had seen other episodes where the characters want the war to end, or to go home. But there was something poignant in their dedication of prayer to the chaplain and something beautiful about the singing that struck me. For once, it sank in that these people truly wanted peace. I found it odd and at the time just dismissed it as the peacenik attitude of the cast. But still I held on to the moment. It was one of the first time I really considered and realized that those sent to war wish for peace. The tune of the song stuck with me and I never forgot it. It took many more years for me to change my beliefs but that one scene was always somewhere in the back of my mind. Though antiwar art does not always immediately strike the root, I think this scene planted the first seed for me to become antiwar. Hopefully it will for you or someone you share this with too. That was another story from “why I am antiwar” be sure to follow us @antiwarpodcast and follow me @mdvet4. Go to antiwarpodcast.com to find all of our podcasts and show notes For this episode. Welcome back for another amazing episode from the triplets of mayhem, the Nerds Amalgamated crew. This week we have an excellent show for you to enjoy with everyone in fine form and having fun. The first topic of the week is from DJ looking into Simon Pegg claiming that cinema appears to be dying. Now does this relate to the comments about thin margins in movies? Well, that is a good question and if you want to know more you will have to listen in to find out. But we are you will laugh when you listen to this section.Next up Professor unveils his darker side and lures us into a dungeon…. What, he doesn’t… oops sorry apparently that was supposed to be Professor tells us about a dungeon game made by an AI. My apologies, but it is a reasonably easy mistake to make, after all he is a bit of a mad scientist. But this is looking really cool and fun, some of the options in this are pretty outstanding. Once again this is not a warning about AI trying to take over the world…yet.Last up we have an AI system that is learning how to work co-operatively with people, and possibly manipulating them. Buck brings us a story about some research from Facebook’s AI team that is pretty darn well ground breaking in regards to the results being achieved. We are talking about an attempt to formulate a near perfect response to an imperfect problem. What does that mean, well listen in and you can find out.As usual we have the games being played, with Buck changing his at the last second which is kind of cool. Then this is followed by the regular variety of shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and special events. We are offering a new service, if you are feeling a little pompous and wish to regain that sense of reality Buck is offering to develop a personal insult just for you. As always please remember to take care of yourselves, look out for each other and stay hydrated.Simon Pegg: "Theatrical Cinema, Sadly, Appears to Be Dying"- https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/simon-pegg-theatrical-cinema-sadly-appears-be-dying-1258252A.I. In 1912 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his "invention of automatic regulators for use in conjunction with gas accumulators for illuminating lighthouses and buoys". He died from terminal cancer at the age of 68 in Lidingö,Stockholm - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gustaf_Dal%C3%A9n9 Dec 1970 - Artem (Artyom) Ivanovich Mikoyan, Soviet Armenian aircraft designer, who cofounded the Mikoyan-Gurevich design bureau along with Mikhail Gurevich. In March 1942, the bureau was renamed OKB MiG (Osoboye Konstruktorskoye Büro), ANPK MiG (Aviatsionnyy nauchno-proizvodstvennyy kompleks) and OKO MiG. The MiG-1 proved to be a poor start, the MiG-3 went into production but only occasionally could it fight in its intended high-level interceptor role. Further MiG-5, MiG-7 and MiG-8 Utka did not progress beyond research prototypes. He died from stroke at the age of 65 in Moscow - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artem_Mikoyan9 Dec 2005 - Robert Sheckley, American writer. First published in the science-fiction magazines of the 1950s, his numerous quick-witted stories and novels were famously unpredictable, absurdist, and broadly comical. His works include not only original short stories and novels, but also TV series episodes (Captain Video and His Video Rangers), novelizations of works by others (Babylon 5: A Call to Arms, after the film , stories in shared universes such as Heroes in Hell, and collaborations with other writers. In many stories Sheckley speculates about alternative (and usually sinister) social orders, of which a good example is the story "A Ticket to Tranai" (which tells of a sort of Utopia designed for human nature as it actually is, which turns out to have terrible drawbacks). His novel Dimension of Miracles is often cited as an influence on Douglas Adams's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, although in an interview for Neil Gaiman's book Don't Panic: The Official Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Companion, Adams said he had not read it until after writing the Guide. He died from complications following heart surgery and a stroke at the age of 77 in Poughkeepsie, New York - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_SheckleyFamous Birthdays9 Dec 1608 - John Milton, English poet and intellectual, who served as a civil servant for the Commonwealth of England under its Council of State and later under Oliver Cromwell. He wrote at a time of religious flux and political upheaval, and is best known for his epic poem Paradise Lost, written in blank verse. Writing in English, Latin, Greek, and Italian, he achieved international renown within his lifetime, and his celebrated Areopagitica, written in condemnation of pre-publication censorship, is among history's most influential and impassioned defences of freedom of speech and freedom of the press. His desire for freedom extended into his style: he introduced new words (coined from Latin) to the English language, and was the first modern writer to employ non-rhymed verse outside of the theatre or translations. Samuel Johnson praised Paradise Lost as "a poem which...with respect to design may claim the first place, and with respect to performance, the second, among the productions of the human mind", though he described Milton's politics as those of an "acrimonious and surly republican". Poets such as William Blake, William Wordsworth and Thomas Hardy revered him. He was born in Bunhill, London - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Milton9 Dec 1917 - Leo James Rainwater, American physicist who shared the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1975 for his part in determining the asymmetrical shapes of certain atomic nuclei. During World War II, he worked on the Manhattan Project that developed the first atomic bombs. In 1949, he began developing his theory that, contrary to what was then believed, not all atomic nuclei are spherical. His ideas were later tested and confirmed by Aage Bohr's and Ben Mottelson's experiments. He also contributed to the scientific understanding of X-rays and participated in the United States Atomic Energy Commission and naval research projects. Rainwater joined the physics faculty at Columbia in 1946, where he reached the rank of full professor in 1952 and was named Pupin Professor of Physics in 1982. He received the Ernest Orlando Lawrence Award for Physics in 1963 and in 1975 was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics, "for the discovery of the connection between collective motion and particle motion in atomic nuclei and the development of the theory of the structure of the atomic nucleus based on this connection". He was born in Council, Idaho - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Rainwater9 Dec 1926 - Henry Way Kendall, American particle physicist who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1990 jointly with Jerome Isaac Friedman and Richard E. Taylor "for their pioneering investigations concerning deep inelastic scattering of electrons on protons and bound neutrons, which have been of essential importance for the development of the quark model in particle physics." These experiments involved scattering high-energy beams of electrons from protons and deuterons and heavier nuclei. At lower energies, it had already been found that the electrons would only be scattered through low angles, consistent with the idea that the nucleons had no internal structure. However, the SLAC-MIT experiments showed that higher energy electrons could be scattered through much higher angles, with the loss of some energy. These deep inelastic scattering results provided the first experimental evidence that the protons and neutrons were made up of point-like particles, later identified to be the up and downquarks that had previously been proposed on theoretical grounds. The experiments also provided the first evidence for the existence of gluons. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Way_KendallEvents of Interest9 Dec 1851 – The first YMCA in North America is established in Montreal. YMCA is Young Men's Christian Association. From its inception, it grew rapidly and ultimately became a worldwide movement founded on the principles of muscular Christianity. Local YMCAs deliver projects and services focused on youth development through a wide variety of youth activities, including providing athletic facilities, holding classes for a wide variety of skills, promoting Christianity, and humanitarian work. YMCA globally operates on a federation model, with each independent local YMCA voluntarily affiliated with its national organization. The national organizations, in turn, are part of both an Area Alliance (Europe, Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, the United States, and Canada) and the World Alliance of YMCAs (World YMCA). - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YMCA9 Dec 1909 - Dr. Henry W. Walden, flew the first successful American monoplane flight. He was the designer, builder and pilot of that plane the Walden III. It was made after building a rudimentary wind tunnel and experimenting with different surface designs. At Mineola, Long Island, Walden and his plane left the ground and flew for a few hundred feet. He put the aircraft back down safely—elated. - https://www.airspacemag.com/history-of-flight/or-die-trying-21230348/?page=49 Dec 1967 - Jim Morrison arrested on stage for disturbing the peace at the New Haven Arena, Connecticut, making him the 1st rock star to be taken into custody during a performance. According to Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek, Morrison was "making out" with a female fan in the shower in the backstage area of the New Haven Arena when a local police officer who was providing security for the band – apparently not recognizing the singer – told them to vacate the area, to which Morrison reportedly replied, "Eat it." When the officer brandished a can of Mace and warned, "Last chance," the singer retorted, "Last chance to eat it" – earning himself a face full of Mace for his defiance. Morrison was charged with inciting a riot, indecency and public obscenity. He posted a bond, but the charges were later dropped. - https://ultimateclassicrock.com/jim-morrison-maced-and-arrested-in-new-haven/IntroArtist – Goblins from MarsSong Title – Super Mario - Overworld Theme (GFM Trap Remix)Song Link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GNMe6kF0j0&index=4&list=PLHmTsVREU3Ar1AJWkimkl6Pux3R5PB-QJFollow us onFacebook- Page - https://www.facebook.com/NerdsAmalgamated/- Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/440485136816406/Twitter - https://twitter.com/NAmalgamatedSpotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/6Nux69rftdBeeEXwD8GXrSiTunes - https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/top-shelf-nerds/id1347661094RSS - http://www.thatsnotcanonproductions.com/topshelfnerdspodcast?format=rssInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/nerds_amalgamated/General EnquiriesEmail - Nerds.Amalgamated@gmail.com

We just want to make clear that Painless is going to be ok. He is NOT going to commit suicide, he is only intending to, as Hawkeye insists to Father Mulcahy. Poor Father Mulcahy… first he gets talked in circles by Hawkeye, then he looks into the tent to see a very familiar tableau assembling… We’ve assembled a great crew to talk about this minute: Josh Neufeld of Scene by Scene with Josh & Dean is here. He has a simple explanation for why this Hawkeye is so different from the TV show AND one of the best possible MASH origin stories. While 3 nurses play Taps outside, we swap stories of fandom, realize the brilliance of the theme song’s title, and talk about the movie soundtrack. Megan and Tierney would love to be celebrating being halfway through this movie about MASH Middle School, but today is a heavy minute as Painless tells the guys he’s decided to end his life and they all react… terribly. Seriously, they’re just the worst. Even getting to deep dive into history isn’t fun since it’s about the demise of a certain dictator and his certain wife and his dog and his fanatical followers… yeah. Brad Mendenhall does an amazing job analyzing the “why” of this scene, has us questioning who are the major characters throughout the movie, and joins in the gratefulness for Father Mulcahy as the scene finally changes. In all seriousness, if you ever are having feelings like Painless is, please reach out to the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255.

Your Faith Journey - Finding God Through Words, Song and Praise

On this first Sunday in Lent we intentionally embark on a forty-day journey to the cross.  And every year, on this first Sunday in Lent, we encounter Jesus experiencing forty days in the desert as we begin our forty-day journey.  As Mark tells the story, we find Jesus is driven or pushed into the wilderness.  The gospel writer tells us Jesus has just been baptized by John, an experience in which he saw the sky violently split open and God’s Spirit descend upon him in the form of a gentle dove.  He has just heard God’s voice say to him, “You are my Son, chosen and marked by my love.  You are the pride of my life.”  Then, immediately following this experience the same Spirit that descended upon him as a gentle dove, turns into a dive bomber or mac truck and pushes Jesus out into the wild.  We are not given any hint or clue that Jesus chose to do this of his own volition.  The writer of Mark’s gospel makes it clear that Jesus was forcefully driven or pushed into the wilderness by the Spirit, something outside of himself.  Now, the wilderness is not a safe place.  It is a treacherous, wild place with tricky, barren terrain. It is a place where one experiences the burning rays of the beating sun, the hungry wolves and wild beasts, and something many of us do not like to face – solitude.  We can probably surmise that, like most of us, when Jesus faced solitude he faced his own inner voices. Mark tells us that, having been driven into the wilderness, Jesus was tempted or tested by Satan.  Jesus did not choose to go into the wilderness and he did not choose to be tempted. It is also a spiritual place where we find multiple spots to engage in self-examination, struggle and repentance.  It is a place where we often discover we have to face ourselves.  And, the wilderness is not a place where we eagerly volunteer to go.  Quite frankly, we do not choose to experience times of temptation, struggle, sorrow or pain. Yet, we do face times of struggle, trial and misery in our lives.  However, just as God was present to Jesus during those trying forty days, God is present to us in all of our challenges in life, those times when a marriage comes to an end, those times when we find our children struggling, those times when a loved one dies, those times when we or a loved one struggles with addiction, those times when we lose a job, those times of hardship when we cannot sense a glimmer of hope, those times when we as a nation again experience the horror of another shooting like last Wednesday in Florida, those times when our experience seems void of the presence of God.  God is there, present to us in all of the struggles and temptations we face, in all of the chaos and pain. When I was young, a time that increasingly seems long, long ago, I used to love watching MASH. Later in the episode, after Father Mulcahy does come under enemy fire and is forced to perform an emergency medical procedure on a different soldier, even as shells are exploding all around him, the first soldier welcomes Father Mulcahy after all. Now they have a common frame of reference, and now they can talk. And, it is then that Father Mulcahy gets it and understands why the soldier had not been able to relate to him.  In the person of Jesus, God has entered the front lines of human existence.  He has already been in the wilderness.  In the person of Jesus, God has entered into the wilderness of our lives and engaged the sharp, jagged edges of this broken, sorrow filled world.  God does walk with us through all of our experiences in the wild.  Jesus walks with each one of us through the front lines of our lives.  As he walks with us in the wilderness, we discover we can let go of the sinful, false self and entrust our messy, broken, mixed up lives to God.  And, guess what?  It is then that we finally discover our true selves.  Then, we begin to discover more deeply what it means to be named as God’s beloved child and made God’s very own.  Then we begin to discover more deeply that our entire life is bathed in God’s grace.  And, then we begin to discover how deeply we are loved by the God of all creation.

This week on #WhiskeyAndAfterMASH we talk about Season 1, Ep 12 (All About Christmas Eve) where there are six different plot threads. They include: Alma Cox finally feeling appreciated by Mike D'Angelo then feeling betrayed, turning her ire on Klinger; Father Mulcahy getting a donation of a 12 inch TV set from a department store; an ulcer patient arriving at General General who (as a separate plot) helps Dr. Pfiffer find his holiday spirit; another patient arriving who thinks his wife is cheating on him; and Klinger and Soon Lee finding out they are pregnant. In Season 1 Ep 13 (Chief of Staff) there are only about four plots including: D'Angelo getting a prostate operation; Cox feeling first finally appreciated by Mike, then rejected; Nurse Coleman, a black nurse, arriving at General General and her failed trial under fire; Pvt. Bob and another patient fighting over a (married) elder nurse; Potter's office being redecorated by Klinger and Mulcahy with his gear from the 4077th. Both were very dense, but Chief of Staff was, by far, the more viewable episode.

Our quote for today is from Father Mulcahy, a character on the hit TV show M*A*S*H. He said, "A faith of convenience is a hollow faith." In this podcast, we are making our way through Garry R. Morgan's book, "Understanding World Religions in 15 Minutes a Day." Our Understanding World Religions topic for today is, "Islam: Varieties and Issues."  Even small religions show amazing variety within their beliefs and practices, so it's no surprise that Islam is not monolithic. First, as with any religion, there are differing levels of commitment and participation. At one end of the spectrum among professing Muslims are the nominal (non-practicing). Next are the Conformists, whose personal attitude is indifference or even unbelief but who follow the rituals due to family or societal pressure. While this might seem primarily limited to Muslim-majority countries where Sharia (Islamic law) is enforced, even where there's legal religious freedom, families and communities can exert tremendous pressure. Next are the Reformers who are not an official branch (as in Judaism). The term refers to Muslims who sincerely believe Islam is the true religion but that the Qur'an must be understood and applied in the present, separating it from its seventh-century cultural roots. The Moderates, probably the largest group worldwide, are sincere in their belief, appreciate Islam's positive aspects (family, community, morality, etc.), and reject more radical interpretations. Even the Fundamentalists, at the far end of the spectrum, have subgroups. All agree on a literal, almost rigid interpretation of the Qur'an, but some (such as the Taliban) teach law practices that go beyond the Qur'an. Some Fundamentalists actively propagate their faith and believe Islam's message will eventually reach and persuade everyone, yet they renounce violence. The most extreme Fundamentalists -- the ones recruiting suicide bombers and planning acts of terror -- believe Western cultural, political, and economic encroachment must be stopped by any and all means.  ...

M*A*S*H Today we cover Season 1, Episode #19 - The Longjohn Flap Directed by William Wiard Written by Alan Alda Production code J319 Original air date February 18, 1973 Set during the Korean War in the 1950’s Plot Summary: In the middle of a cold snap, Hawkeye receives a pair of longjohns from home. Hawkeye gives them to an ill Trapper out of sympathy and Trapper loses them to Radar in a poker game. The longjohns proceed to pass through the hands of almost everyone in the camp: Radar gives them to the cook in exchange for a whole lamb roast with mint jelly, and the cook bribes Frank with them to avoid being demoted because of the unsanitary conditions of the kitchen. Frank gives the longjohns to an intimidating Margaret as a sign of devotion to her, before Klinger steals the longjohns from Margaret's tent. A remorseful Klinger then gives the longjohns to Father Mulcahy, who in turn gives them to Henry (but not until after he spends the night wearing them). Henry claims he will return the longjohns to their rightful owner, but gets caught putting them on by Hawkeye and Trapper. Henry rebuffs Hawkeye's demand that the longjohns  be returned, but later gives them back to Hawkeye in gratitude for saving his life via an  appendectomy.
