In fact you've probably watched a few episodes of that kickass show that she directed. (Tony was a big Arrow fan) But when the genocide in Gaza continued and barely any of her peers spoke out, she decided to walk away from Hollywood and move to Ireland. So you know we had to chat with her and this is what we hope will be the first of many conversations with the talented, smart, steadfast, outspoken and kickass, Lexi Alexander. Directed by Lexi Alexander, and starring Ray Stevenson, Dominic West, Doug Hutchinson and an incredible amount of violence, the movie focuses on what happens when a burly man kills dozens of criminals. Brotha! After a sequel to Thomas Jane's Punisher movie was plunged into development hell, director Lexi Alexander rebooted the series with a zanier take that upped the violence and hammy New York accents. While it underwhelmed audiences and become the lowest-grossing theatrical Marvel film, some fans have come to prefer this version's Grindhouse approach. It seems like something that Connor and Gabe could agree on, right?...Right?
Punisher: War Zone is a 2008 vigilante action-thriller film based on the Marvel Comics character the Punisher, directed by Lexi Alexander. Rather than a sequel to 2004's The Punisher, the film is a reboot that follows the war waged by vigilante Frank Castle / Punisher (Ray Stevenson) on crime and corruption, in particular on the disfigured mob boss known as Billy "Jigsaw" Russotti (Dominic West).[6] It is the third feature film adaptation of The Punisher, the second reboot thereof and the first of two films to be produced under the Marvel Knights production banner, which focuses on films for mature audiences. Punisher: War Zone was released in North America by Lionsgate on December 5, 2008, and it was released in the United Kingdom by Sony Pictures Releasing on February 6, 2009 to negative reviews and grossed $10 million worldwide, making it a box-office bomb. Its related soundtrack hit the #23 slot on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart. It was the final Punisher film to be produced by an outside studio before the rights reverted to Marvel Studios, with Stevenson reprising his role as Castle in The Super Hero Squad Show. A television series was later released on Netflix in 2017 and is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. MC references this article in the episode: https://www.forbes.com/sites/lisettevoytko/2020/06/11/the-creator-of-the-punisher-wants-to-reclaim-the-iconic-skull-from-police-and-fringe-admirers/?sh=2ab6c3b1b434

The new Apple TV+ movie Tetris tells the unbelievable but true story of how the video game became a worldwide phenomenon. Entrepreneur Henk Rogers (Taron Egerton) discovered Tetris in 1988 and partnered with Soviet inventor Alexey Pajitnov (Nikita Efremov) to bring the game from the USSR to the entire world. Tetris is a fast-paced, compelling Cold War–era thriller as Henk and Alexey race to outmaneuver their competitors who are determined to get to the market first with the “perfect” video game. Director Jon Baird loved the script for Tetris because it was fun, fast-paced, full of political intrigue and family drama, yet based on reality. Jon decided to shoot the film in Scotland, around his hometown of Aberdeen. Moscow in the 1980's was a very gray place, where it actually felt like someone had turned the color off. Jon worked with his DP Alwin H. Küchler, and they decided to keep the color palette desaturated in grays and browns. Aberdeen is often cloudy, with gray granite buildings, making it a great place to substitute Soviet-era Russia. Tetris producer Matthew Vaughn was very instrumental in the post-production process, and they worked with the visual effects team to put together just the right amount of video game elements in the film. Jon grew up in a fishing town in Scotland without any connection to the movie industry. His dad loved musical theater so they would often go to London to see plays. He loved the feeling seeing live theater and movies gave him, and Jon knew he wanted to pursue a career in movies. Once he was old enough, Jon moved to London and after a few years he found a job as a production assistant, that eventually led to another job at the BBC, learning as he went. His short film It's a Casual Life led to a technical advisor position on Green Street Hooligans, directed by Lexi Alexander, which became his big break. Jon has also won a BAFTA for directing the film Stan & Ollie. Tetris will be streaming on Apple TV+ on March 31. linktr.ee/CatchingUpOnCinema In the final installment of Catching Up On Cinema's “Drinking Movie Month,” Kyle and Trevor review Lexi Alexander's, Punisher: War Zone (2008). Released as part of the short-lived Marvel Knights project, the film is the third live-action adaptation of the comic book property following the Dolph Lundgren version from the late 80's, and the Thomas Jane headlined one from just 4 years prior. Directed by Lexi Alexander, the film is simultaneously the most explicitly gory violent, as well as the most aesthetically vibrant and colorful of Punisher films. Starring Ray Stevenson as perhaps the most visually “correct” version of The Punisher on film according to the comic book canon, the movie also boasts a solid supporting cast in the form of Dominic West as a scenery chewing Jigsaw, Bruce Hutchinson as his brother LBJ, Colin Salmon as action hero in training Agent Budiansky, and Julie Benz as the token Lionsgate leading lady from the late 2000's. In which the Mister and Monsters join me in reviewing PUNISHER WAR ZONE (2008), available on Hulu with a premium subscription or to rent on YouTube, Google Play & Movies, Apple TV, Vudu, Amazon Prime and iTunes. Created in the 70s by Gerry Conway (writer) with John Romita Sr and Ross Andru, (artists), this 2008 incarnation is directed by Lexi Alexander with script credits to Nick Santora, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. The film follows Frank Castle (Ray Stevenson) as he kills his way through the criminal underworld all the while trying to protect the widow of an undercover federal agent and the agent's little girl safe from Jigsaw and Loony Bin Jim. Some absolutely bonkers, over the top violence round out this very fun but brutal film. The film's runtime is 1 hour and 43 minutes and is rated R. Please note there are SPOILERS in this review. In the Urban Dictionary, the definition for ‘slept on' should have a poster of Green Street Hooligans proudly beside it. The kickstart of Charlie Hunnam's career and a brutal look into London soccer gangs makes Green Street one of those movies that makes my heart grow fonder. If nothing else, I hope this podcast introduced someone to it. But at the very worst, you can listen and hear us literally begging for added footage to capitalize on the homoerotic tension. I mean com'on. It's right there, guys.
On this week's episode Matt and Brain talk about Punisher: Warzone, the best version of the Punisher to hit the silver screen! At least Matt thinks it is! The two hosts also talk about the production problems, how Lexi Alexander was a trend setter and how the experience of making this movie was a bittersweet experience for her, it's rise to cult status, and the crazy over the top action and mayhem that makes this movie memorable, and lastly, Matt sets the record straight about Deadpool.
This week on Long Walks and Robots...An act of God, or rather convoluted digital film licensing, prevents Ryan from completing his mission of watching Lexi Alexander's 2005 Crime/Drama "Green Street Hooligans." Never fear though as Shane swoops in with an in depth recap of The Fountain, the 2006 Romance/Sci-Fi birthed from the esoteric brain of Darren Aronofsky. In between playing the game, "sick or allergies," we discover new ways to wink, our shared hatred of Terrence Malick, and the best way to watch the "Friday the 13th" franchise. On a final note, this episode was recorded 1 week before the loss of Sean Connery. The intent of the context was not to speak ill of the dead; rather, simply to mock an old man... just to clarify.

Couch Potato Theater: Punisher: War Zone (2008) Join us for this very special edition of Couch Potato Theater as we look back and discuss Couch Potato Theater: Punisher: War Zone (2008) A look at one of the more interesting pre MCU films. Punisher: War Zone is a 2008 vigilante action thriller film based on the Marvel Comics character the Punisher, directed by Lexi Alexander. The film is a reboot that follows the war waged by vigilante Frank Castle (Ray Stevenson) on crime and corruption, in particular on the disfigured mob boss known as Billy "Jigsaw" Russotti (Dominic West), rather than a sequel to 2004's The Punisher. It is the third feature film adaptation of The Punisher, the second reboot thereof and the first of two films to be produced under the Marvel Entertainment and Marvel Knights production banner, which focuses on films for mature audiences. Punisher: War Zone was released in North America by Lionsgate on December 5, 2008, Punisher: War Zone (2008) Plot Synopsis: Frank Castle, the ex-military man whose family was killed by criminals, who became a vigilante known as the Punisher, goes after a whole mob family and gets everyone except enforcer Billy Russoti. He tracks Russoti down and chases him into a vat that is used for crushing bottles. Frank turns on the crusher hoping it would take care of him but it doesn't. He survives but sustains very severe injuries that even with plastic surgery his face looks like a jigsaw puzzle. So he decides to adopt the name Jigsaw. Frank who killed one of Russoti's people who unknown to him is an undercover Fed, decides to pack it in. But when he learns Russoti didn't die and is looking for the money he entrusted to the Fed and will go looking for it at his home which means his family is in danger. So Frank tries to save them. But Russoti wants revenge on Frank so he breaks out his brother who is so crazed that he is committed to an asylum, to deal with him. Join Kevin, Lee and Aaron as they take a look back at this fan favorite Punisher film that although it failed at the box office, it was a true representation of the Punisher character that is a great homage to the comics. This Punisher film is so rewatchable for its beautiful violence and creative color pallet that it represents everything that Couch Potato Theater is all about. 2008's Punisher: War Zone definitely broke the mold for comic book movies, and nothing like it has been seen ever since! ED GREER joins to talk about Lexi Alexander's bloody magnum opus in this week's episode of Hot Takes!
That's right folks we are back with another one, and we had to bring one of our favorite people back on the spaceship, the one and only Lexi Alexander, filmmaker, creative consultant, all around amazing person and one of the best follows on Twitter for reals. Oscar Isaac isn't Arabic? This shouldn't be news to anyone, but the producers of Dune seem to have other thoughts... so we also brought back the living legend The Chico Leo to discuss why Hollywood can't seem to tell one brown person from the next...
Brad shows John Lexi Alexander's flawed, gory masterpiece
Welcome back for another amazing episode from the triplets of mayhem, the Nerds Amalgamated crew. This week we have an excellent show for you to enjoy with everyone in fine form and having fun. The first topic of the week is from DJ looking into Simon Pegg claiming that cinema appears to be dying. Now does this relate to the comments about thin margins in movies? Well, that is a good question and if you want to know more you will have to listen in to find out. But we are you will laugh when you listen to this section.Next up Professor unveils his darker side and lures us into a dungeon…. What, he doesn’t… oops sorry apparently that was supposed to be Professor tells us about a dungeon game made by an AI. My apologies, but it is a reasonably easy mistake to make, after all he is a bit of a mad scientist. But this is looking really cool and fun, some of the options in this are pretty outstanding. Once again this is not a warning about AI trying to take over the world…yet.Last up we have an AI system that is learning how to work co-operatively with people, and possibly manipulating them. Buck brings us a story about some research from Facebook’s AI team that is pretty darn well ground breaking in regards to the results being achieved. We are talking about an attempt to formulate a near perfect response to an imperfect problem. What does that mean, well listen in and you can find out.As usual we have the games being played, with Buck changing his at the last second which is kind of cool. Then this is followed by the regular variety of shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and special events. We are offering a new service, if you are feeling a little pompous and wish to regain that sense of reality Buck is offering to develop a personal insult just for you. As always please remember to take care of yourselves, look out for each other and stay hydrated.Simon Pegg: "Theatrical Cinema, Sadly, Appears to Be Dying"- https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/simon-pegg-theatrical-cinema-sadly-appears-be-dying-1258252A.I. In 1912 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his "invention of automatic regulators for use in conjunction with gas accumulators for illuminating lighthouses and buoys". In March 1942, the bureau was renamed OKB MiG (Osoboye Konstruktorskoye Büro), ANPK MiG (Aviatsionnyy nauchno-proizvodstvennyy kompleks) and OKO MiG. The MiG-1 proved to be a poor start, the MiG-3 went into production but only occasionally could it fight in its intended high-level interceptor role. Further MiG-5, MiG-7 and MiG-8 Utka did not progress beyond research prototypes. He died from stroke at the age of 65 in Moscow - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artem_Mikoyan9 Dec 2005 - Robert Sheckley, American writer. First published in the science-fiction magazines of the 1950s, his numerous quick-witted stories and novels were famously unpredictable, absurdist, and broadly comical. His works include not only original short stories and novels, but also TV series episodes (Captain Video and His Video Rangers), novelizations of works by others (Babylon 5: A Call to Arms, after the film , stories in shared universes such as Heroes in Hell, and collaborations with other writers. In many stories Sheckley speculates about alternative (and usually sinister) social orders, of which a good example is the story "A Ticket to Tranai" (which tells of a sort of Utopia designed for human nature as it actually is, which turns out to have terrible drawbacks). His novel Dimension of Miracles is often cited as an influence on Douglas Adams's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, although in an interview for Neil Gaiman's book Don't Panic: The Official Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Companion, Adams said he had not read it until after writing the Guide. He died from complications following heart surgery and a stroke at the age of 77 in Poughkeepsie, New York - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_SheckleyFamous Birthdays9 Dec 1608 - John Milton, English poet and intellectual, who served as a civil servant for the Commonwealth of England under its Council of State and later under Oliver Cromwell. He wrote at a time of religious flux and political upheaval, and is best known for his epic poem Paradise Lost, written in blank verse. Writing in English, Latin, Greek, and Italian, he achieved international renown within his lifetime, and his celebrated Areopagitica, written in condemnation of pre-publication censorship, is among history's most influential and impassioned defences of freedom of speech and freedom of the press. His desire for freedom extended into his style: he introduced new words (coined from Latin) to the English language, and was the first modern writer to employ non-rhymed verse outside of the theatre or translations. Samuel Johnson praised Paradise Lost as "a poem which...with respect to design may claim the first place, and with respect to performance, the second, among the productions of the human mind", though he described Milton's politics as those of an "acrimonious and surly republican". Poets such as William Blake, William Wordsworth and Thomas Hardy revered him. He was born in Bunhill, London - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Milton9 Dec 1917 - Leo James Rainwater, American physicist who shared the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1975 for his part in determining the asymmetrical shapes of certain atomic nuclei. During World War II, he worked on the Manhattan Project that developed the first atomic bombs. In 1949, he began developing his theory that, contrary to what was then believed, not all atomic nuclei are spherical. His ideas were later tested and confirmed by Aage Bohr's and Ben Mottelson's experiments. He also contributed to the scientific understanding of X-rays and participated in the United States Atomic Energy Commission and naval research projects. Rainwater joined the physics faculty at Columbia in 1946, where he reached the rank of full professor in 1952 and was named Pupin Professor of Physics in 1982. He received the Ernest Orlando Lawrence Award for Physics in 1963 and in 1975 was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics, "for the discovery of the connection between collective motion and particle motion in atomic nuclei and the development of the theory of the structure of the atomic nucleus based on this connection". He was born in Council, Idaho - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Rainwater9 Dec 1926 - Henry Way Kendall, American particle physicist who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1990 jointly with Jerome Isaac Friedman and Richard E. Taylor "for their pioneering investigations concerning deep inelastic scattering of electrons on protons and bound neutrons, which have been of essential importance for the development of the quark model in particle physics." These experiments involved scattering high-energy beams of electrons from protons and deuterons and heavier nuclei. At lower energies, it had already been found that the electrons would only be scattered through low angles, consistent with the idea that the nucleons had no internal structure. However, the SLAC-MIT experiments showed that higher energy electrons could be scattered through much higher angles, with the loss of some energy. These deep inelastic scattering results provided the first experimental evidence that the protons and neutrons were made up of point-like particles, later identified to be the up and downquarks that had previously been proposed on theoretical grounds. The experiments also provided the first evidence for the existence of gluons. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Way_KendallEvents of Interest9 Dec 1851 – The first YMCA in North America is established in Montreal. YMCA is Young Men's Christian Association. From its inception, it grew rapidly and ultimately became a worldwide movement founded on the principles of muscular Christianity. Local YMCAs deliver projects and services focused on youth development through a wide variety of youth activities, including providing athletic facilities, holding classes for a wide variety of skills, promoting Christianity, and humanitarian work. YMCA globally operates on a federation model, with each independent local YMCA voluntarily affiliated with its national organization. The national organizations, in turn, are part of both an Area Alliance (Europe, Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, the United States, and Canada) and the World Alliance of YMCAs (World YMCA). - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YMCA9 Dec 1909 - Dr. Henry W. Walden, flew the first successful American monoplane flight. He was the designer, builder and pilot of that plane the Walden III. It was made after building a rudimentary wind tunnel and experimenting with different surface designs. At Mineola, Long Island, Walden and his plane left the ground and flew for a few hundred feet. He put the aircraft back down safely—elated. - https://www.airspacemag.com/history-of-flight/or-die-trying-21230348/?page=49 Dec 1967 - Jim Morrison arrested on stage for disturbing the peace at the New Haven Arena, Connecticut, making him the 1st rock star to be taken into custody during a performance. According to Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek, Morrison was "making out" with a female fan in the shower in the backstage area of the New Haven Arena when a local police officer who was providing security for the band – apparently not recognizing the singer – told them to vacate the area, to which Morrison reportedly replied, "Eat it." When the officer brandished a can of Mace and warned, "Last chance," the singer retorted, "Last chance to eat it" – earning himself a face full of Mace for his defiance. Morrison was charged with inciting a riot, indecency and public obscenity. He posted a bond, but the charges were later dropped. - https://ultimateclassicrock.com/jim-morrison-maced-and-arrested-in-new-haven/IntroArtist – Goblins from MarsSong Title – Super Mario - Overworld Theme (GFM Trap Remix)Song Link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GNMe6kF0j0&index=4&list=PLHmTsVREU3Ar1AJWkimkl6Pux3R5PB-QJFollow us onFacebook- Page - https://www.facebook.com/NerdsAmalgamated/- Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/440485136816406/Twitter - https://twitter.com/NAmalgamatedSpotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/6Nux69rftdBeeEXwD8GXrSiTunes - https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/top-shelf-nerds/id1347661094RSS - http://www.thatsnotcanonproductions.com/topshelfnerdspodcast?format=rssInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/nerds_amalgamated/General EnquiriesEmail - Nerds.Amalgamated@gmail.com

The Starling Tribune: An Unofficial Arrow TV Show Fan Podcast
Starling Tribune - Season 4 Edition – Episode 3: Restoration The Official Arrow Podcast of the Gonna Geek Network During another fun Blab.im live recording, Neil, Stargate Pioneer and Chris gather again to discuss the 3rd episode of the 4th Arrow season. It was great to see Nyssa back on the show and just how evil Malcom Merlyn can be. Why did that one Ghost let Diggle live at the battle of the Woodmill? SP has a pretty good theory about why that Neil added unto. Damian Darhk sure demonstrate how deadly simple parlor card tricks can be. SP teaches that worksite cranes sometimes do come equipped with remote control technologies thus validating Felicity's ability to remote control one from the Arrow Lair 3.0. There is a LOT of Lair 3.0 talk too. Felicity's mention of Mirikuru soldiers was a Great Pull. SP has issue with Felicity's machine gun spray and pray move. Felicty's character growth comes to a new level in the episode and everyone is impressed. Chris finds a reason for Oliver to have sleeves on his costume again. ( #bringbacksleeves ) We're all excited to see the T-Sphere's and of course Ray Palmer is trying to get Felicity's attention through her mobile phone. The show finally found a way to get rid of the Lazarus Pit after its heroic and historic reanimation of Sara. And the hosts have a message for Laurel: When MALCOLM tells you that doing something is a bad idea you've probably gone way too far. Someone needs to get Sara and Thea bad to 100%. Will it be Damian? Will it be Constantine? The relationship between Quentin Lance and Damian continues to confuse everyone. Everyone loves OTA – Original Team Arrow. Everyone rates the villain of the week, Double Down. SP was happy to see Ryan Robbins but knows Oliver is going to kills him eventually. The guys take bets on where Oliver is heading with the woman. We revisit the “Star City Beard Report” including his mutant power. Would you take a card for us? The fights continue to be amazing including the double fight this week and the sparing in Nanda Parbat and Thea's nightmare wake-up call fight. LEXI ALEXANDER, Oscar-nominated director best known for "Green Street Hooligans" and cult classic "Punisher: War Zone," joins me to talk about her journey to becoming a Hollywood filmmaker. Along the way, we touch on martial arts, being a stuntwoman, her short films and feature films, her cult status with comic book fans, and her advocacy in representing people exploited or ignored by Hollywood, including women and online file-sharing pirates.
