LISTEN What's that Lassie?! The Old Guys are talking about animal sidekicks and mascots? In a well? First things first: Chewbacca is NOT an animal sidekick. He can fire a weapon plus repair and fly spaceships! Could Arnold Ziffel do that? We didn't think so. Also, 600-pound skulls and monkey humping a topic. Don't bit my tid. Animal sidekicks at drug-fueled Hollywood parties. Can fake hair be a pet? Such an episode. Rifftrax and MST3K really are the movie equivalent of wearing a condom. Also: Horse Dovers. Xenomorph birds. More charming pieces of garbage. Eric screams. Celebrity deaths notwithstanding. 3 is a psychologically satisfying number and the OGs talk about the place of some famous trilogies in their lives. They also find... a lot of trilogies... well... In this episode I interviewed my dear friend Shawn Nixon, an American Physical, Mental, Emotional and Spiritual Coach from New Jersey. He is the Co-Host in The Bridge Podcast, with Jonathan Mathew, where they have amazing profound conversations about the connection between the different aspects of the human experience. They talk, in a fun easy going way, about Health, nutrition, fitness, philosophy, psychology and spirituality. In this interview we talked about: -How did he became responsable for his health. -What does imply to do "Shadow work"? -How everything is connected, in our well being, as well that in the Universe. -Rabbit holes and the glitches in the Matrix. -Social Programming -What it means Cognitive dissonance? -What laugh has to do with consciousness? -How unconditional self love is key to transforming our health and our world. -What it means to be a Conscious Man in 2021 on Earth? I loved this episode so much! This was an epic conversation! Make sure you write us a comment or tag us on your stories on Instagram. LISTENIn the early 80s the cry went up across America and then the world; "I WANT MY MTV!" In this episode, the OGs reflect back on a time of excitement, an unprecedented blending of music and visuals, strange white studios, ridiculously out of place violence, and... oh yes, the smoothest man ever on TV, J.J. Jackson. Also in this episode... so much Leon Redbone. The glory of TAPEHEADS. Were you a Martha Quinn or a Nina Blackwood? And MEAT SHEATHS! LISTENAre we there yet? The OGs call "shotgun!". They've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark out, and they're wearing sunglasses this episode. That's right, the guys are talking about road movies. Also this episode, Shawn goes beyond Thunderdome while Eric shakes his nuts. Was Carrie Fisher hotter in JEDI or THE MAN WITH ONE RED SHOE? Happy Tuesday! It's raining cats and dogs here in Dallas, Texas! But that won't stop us from having a great show with jus Bernadette and Shawn Wells, so stick around! Shawn Wells Shawn Wells is a Master of Public Health, Licensed Dietitian, Registered Dietitian, Certified Sports Nutritionist from the International Society of Sports Nutrition. He is also a Fellow of the International Society of Sports Nutrition. Shawn Wells is the world’s leading nutritional biochemist and expert on Health Optimization. He has formulated over 500 supplements and patented 10 novel ingredients. Formerly a Chief Clinical Dietitian with over a decade of clinical experience, he has counseled thousands of people on natural health solutions such as keto, paleo, fasting, and supplements. As a world-renowned thought-leader on mitochondrial health, he has been paid to speak on five different continents. His insights have been prominently featured in documentaries, nationally syndicated radio programs, and regularly on morning television. Shawn’s expertise can help any health-conscious high achiever to better manage stress and experience higher performance and more energy through utilizing his practical wholistic solutions. Suicide Prevention Shawn once struggled with suicide. Shawn grew up in a chaotic home, where he was bullied daily. He kept his head down and worked on his studies, but tried to make people laugh whenever possible. After years of suffering, Shawn tried to take his own life. Bernadette points out that our own perception of ourselves is so powerful. We accept the ideas that are cast over us when we are children, but often forget our own paths. Shawn says there was never a huge paradigm shift in his life when he realized he needed to change his life, but instead a lot of little changes that added up to something big. Give yourself some space and remember to set boundaries. Also, don't forget to take a break whenever you start to feel overwhelmed. Whatever you were doing, it will still be there when you get back. Take some water out of your stress bucket. Resilience Shawn says that there is physical and mental resilience. You need both kinds of resilience to be strong from all angles! There is the idea of a stress bucket. You only have so much capacity for stress, so be careful that you don't fill up your bucket too fast without a way to empty it out. Shawn says to watch "The Social Dilemma" on Netflix! It is important to understand how children are comparing themselves in these times. Children are now comparing themselves to 8 billion other people instead of to the neighbor down the street. The influx of algorithms and tech has caused a need for different kinds of resilience, and more resilience at a younger age. Bernadette says we need to be thought leaders. Look into your inner circle to become the best you. You will become who you hang out with! Surround yourself with the best people you can find to learn how to be resilient on all levels. We are designed to overcome, not succumb! Supplements For Mood Folic acid and B vitamins are so important for brain health! If we aren’t firing correctly in our brain then we aren’t conducting well, if we aren’t firing at our full capacity, we can’t be totally resilient! If you have been using SSRI’s, try zembrin. Zembrin is a plant from South Africa. It has a long history of use as a traditional medicine by tribes of South Africa. It has been used to enhance mood and cause relaxation. Oil of oregano is not for the faint of heart, but it is one of the most potent antioxidants known to man! Other supplements and vitamins that can better your mood are Ginkgo biloba, Valerian, Omega-3 Fatty Acids, Melatonin, Probiotics, Curcumin and Magnesium, so go to your local supplement store and stock up! Thank You! A big thank you to our guest, Shawn Wells! Find Shawn at his website, here, or on his instagram at "Ingredientologist." Thank you to all of our One Life Radio listeners.
First aired in April 2018, this very timely episode features Shawn Moore, a Church pastor, teacher at Bethel Seminary and ironman competitor as he chats with Jo and Steph about greatness, cultural competency and how to grow in our understanding of others. Shawn desires to see education used to liberate people from bondage so that they can become great and he shares with Jo and Steph about what that looks like for him personally. GREAT: Gratitude Redeemed / reconciliation (removing barriers to authentic relationships) Excellence - A for effort, not perfection Action Teaching / training - either learning or teaching others Discussion questions: 1) Do you have a morning routine look like? What does it look like or what would you like it to look like? 2) Shawn said: ‘if you want to give more grace, you have to receive more grace.’ How are you actively filling up on God’s grace right now? 3) Shawn shared that rest is about recharging not just switching off. Write a list of the activities you do in your spare time and mark them as either ‘recharging my soul’ or ‘switching off life’. Shawn Thornton is a visionary artist based in Philadelphia, PA. His paintings are highly detailed and symbolic, often taking him years to complete. He had a tumor in his pineal gland that went undiagnosed for six years and during that time began to experience unusual states of consciousness, including invasive voices and episodes of psychosis, energies which can be seen reflected in his visual language. In this conversation, he describes the experience of losing his mind, navigating western medicine and antipsychotic drugs, and finally finding relief in painting and exercise. He hypothesizes on the damage he did to himself as a young artist and shares what it is like to navigate life now with lasting cognitive repercussions and a new awareness and appreciation of his mental health.
