Regardless of our place in the foster care community, understanding who we are, who we belong to, and where our sense of security comes from is vital to our confidence in where we belong. It is such an honor to have Trisha Priebe on the podcast. She's an adoptee and adoptive mom who serves as the Sr. Communications Coordinator for Lifesong for Orphans. Trisha is also a speaker and writer who has published 16 books. She lives in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, where she is wife to her husband, Luke, and is mom to three. In this episode, we explore why every adoptee's experience is unique, how foster care and adoption teach us the complexity of love, why parenting any child is a leap of faith, and the importance of helping our children identify truth. Who are you, really? Not just your name, age, or what you do. Who are you at your core—and how do you discover that? It takes God's truth to answer this question with confidence and conviction. Everything changes when you discover your true identity in who he says you are.

Are insecurities driving you to your own solutions? Welcome to the Daily Devo. I am Vince Miller. This week, we are in 1 Samuel 8. I've titled this chapter "When Our Insecurities Define Us." Today, our text is 1 Samuel 8:4-6, which reads: Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah and said to him, “Behold, you are old and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now appoint for us a king to judge us like all the nations.” But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” And Samuel prayed to the Lord. — 1 Samuel 8:4-6 Here are a few details worth noting. First, it's the elders who initiate the move to a monarchy. If we look back a few chapters, we'll recall that it was also the elders who devised a plan to solve a previous crisis, resulting in the loss of the Ark of God in a war against the Philistines. Their reasoning here is no better. Previously, they wanted to use God, but now they want to reject Him. But let's look closer at their reasoning because it's a little twisted. The issue at hand is the succession within the judiciary. They are worried about Samuel's old age and his sons' misconduct, which raises concerns about who will lead after him. Essentially, they are in need of another judge. In the past, they encountered problems with Eli and his sons. However, their current proposal is baffling because it fails to address the problem and actually contradicts their own analysis. Despite this, they do not seem to realize the flaw in their plan. If their genuine concern is about the nation turning away from the Lord, then the solution is not to replace the Lord with a man who with lord over them. What they actually need is another judge who will keep the people loyal to the Lord. And this is what irritates Samuel; he, as you will see, understands the twist in their request as the rejection of the Lord. The elders' reasoning and decision stems from a common human tendency—to rely on tangible solutions in moments of insecurity rather than on the Lord. They overlook the fact that their real need isn't just a king but a judge who will lead them toward obedience to God. This reveals a profound truth: When our insecurities define us, we often seek superficial solutions that fail to address the root issues. How often do we, like the elders of Israel, look for quick fixes to our problems—placing our trust in human institutions, achievements, or relationships rather than in God? When we feel insecure about the future, our jobs, or our families, we may rush to take matters into our own hands, seeking control where only God's guidance can provide true direction. Take time today to identify an area of insecurity in your life that you have been trying to address with world effort and natural solutions. Pause and pray, asking God for wisdom and trusting Him to lead you. Surrender your fears and uncertainties to Him, and commit to following His guidance, even if it means stepping into the unknown. #TrustingGodOverMan #InsecureSolutions #SeekingDivineGuidance Ask This: How often do you find yourself seeking human solutions to your insecurities instead of relying on God's guidance? What steps can you take to shift your trust more fully to Him? Reflect on a time when you rushed to find a quick fix for a problem that ultimately didn't address the deeper issue. What did you learn from that experience, and how can you apply that lesson to your current challenges? Do This: Trust God in the insecurity. Pray This: Father, forgive me for the times I've sought worldly solutions out of fear and insecurity. Help me trust in Your wisdom and guidance, surrendering my anxieties to Your loving care. Amen. Play This: A Mighty Fortress.

In a world of constant change and uncertainty, finding firm ground for our faith is more crucial than ever. Join us as we delve into the powerful words of the Book of Jude, specifically verses 17-25, where we discover timeless truths that anchor us in the midst of life’s storms. (Genesis 7:1-16) When Noah and his family safely made it on the ark, God shut the door behind them. He ensured their security. When you come unto the Lord for salvation, He ensures that you are kept by His power, never to be plucked from His hand. Praise God for His security! (0838240213)
Psalm 23:1-3 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Summary In this conversation, John Grdina and Daniel Galasso discuss Psalm 23 and the concept of God as our shepherd. They explore the role of a shepherd in guiding and protecting his flock, drawing parallels to being a father to one's children. They emphasize the importance of knowing and trusting God's voice, seeking His guidance, and finding security in Him. The conversation concludes with a prayer for listeners to have open hearts and ears to hear God's voice. Takeaways God is our shepherd, guiding and protecting us. As fathers, we can learn from the example of a shepherd in leading and caring for our children. It is important to know and trust God's voice, seeking His guidance in our lives. Finding security and peace comes from placing our trust in God. Chapters 00:00 Introduction and Book Announcement 09:20 Psalm 23: The Lord is My Shepherd 13:48 Being a Shepherd to Your Children 17:01 Jesus as the Good Shepherd 20:12 Knowing and Trusting God's Voice 25:37 Finding Security in God 29:07 Closing Prayer and Conclusion Why are we discussing this book? I'm blessed and honored to have you with us on this journey, and I know it will impact people. So this book, you'll see I'll have it on the cover of each episode, was found at my grandparents' house after my grandmother died, and my grandfather, it was his, passed away almost five years ago. And the reason why it was on my heart to do this was instead of going by myself, it would be the best How is the best way for fathers or grandfathers to read through Scripture, 52 specific verses, and then how it can actually be used in their life? So what Daniel and I are going to do is we're going to use the SOAP method: The term "SOAP method" is often associated with a structured approach to studying and reflecting on scripture. The SOAP method is an acronym that stands for Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer. It provides a systematic way to engage with and apply the teachings found in the Bible. Here's a brief overview of each step: 1. **Scripture:** - Choose a passage or verse from the Bible to focus on. Read and meditate on the selected scripture. 2. **Observation:** - Reflect on the passage and observe details such as keywords, themes, and any significant context. Consider the historical and cultural context of the passage. 3. **Application:** - Apply the teachings of the scripture to your own life. Consider how the passage can impact your beliefs, attitudes, and actions. Think about practical steps you can take based on the insights gained from the scripture. 4. **Prayer:** - Conclude your reflection with a prayer. Communicate with God about what you've learned, express gratitude, seek guidance, or ask for strength to apply the lessons from the scripture. "Synchroncity is an ever present reality for those who have eyes to see." - Carl Jung I love synchroncity - it's like gold in the bank that never loses it's value, and always keeps be feeling secure and stable, no matter what. - Christine Arylo :) When I can see the meaningful connections happening around me and for me, my faith reserves fill, anxiety and stress release. I feel held and guided. So when get a case of the wobbles, or things seem to be going sideways, or I feel stuck, or I am headed to despair about the state of the world, I can find the threads to pull myself back to center and lift above the fray and connect to a higher frequency. Consider this: In the chaos and uncertainity of our world, it can be really easy to end up with cloudy eyes that make it impossible to see (and believe) the magic. Our normal high-vibe, wise eyes which can see what is real can become glazed over or bewildered by all of the goop from the distorted mainstream world. Gooped up, our internal frequency drops into the tanker, takes us off our path, and gives our energy and chi to the chaos. Wisdom #1: If you don't have something deeper within you, and more real holding you, insecurity is going to invade your internal ecosystem and try to take over. Which is exactly why we are grabbing a hold of our practical magic wisdom book, volume S, today ... S for Synchronicity and Security. Wisdom #2: When you can see and feel the synchronicities happening around and for you, you start to see the patterns that can lead you to new possibilities, wisdom & realitites. When you can see possibility + feel the presence of grace + see the magic connections and occurences happening, the fluctations of the markets, the current state of world affairs, the changes out of your influence, start to hold less power over you. They still might cause a flare up, but they won't take you down. Synchronicity spotting and actively cultivating the environment for synchroncities to emerge are practical magic practices ... they are one way we can feel more secure in an ever shifting world. If we remember to look for them, believe in them, and actively create the ecosystems they can thrive in. Although Christ does not condemn the woman caught in adultery, he finds himself condemned to death, a death he freely accepts for our sakes. We can meditate this Lent more frequently and more deeply on our Lord's Passion and Death, and in doing so find greater security and the means to be better every day.
Insecurities often cause us to hide our true selves and push people away. The truth is, we need each other to bring the best out of us. Learning how to address our insecurities and find internal validation is key to trusting others and finding security in our own lives. Transformation Tip: “You must trust and believe in people or life becomes impossible.” -– Anton ChekhovShame causes us to hide. Our doubt creates insecurity which causes us to shield ourselves from others.Growing through your identity is a process. Growth takes time. Your starting point will dictate your finishing point. Live from a positive starting point. Focusing on internal validation is vital. You have to find your security from within. If you can only find validation externally, your self-worth will constantly be under the power of circumstances you cannot control. Insecure behaviors:Control Defensiveness Independence Being vulnerable and authentic will draw people to your security. When we don't feel secure, we conclude that we need to do everything for ourselves and become independent/self-made. This often leads to self-centeredness and loneliness and exhaustion. We need each other. We need people to bring out the best in us. Practical self-awareness exercises:Understand and identify your triggersLook for moments when you find yourself over-reactingWhat provoked your insecure reaction?Walk in the opposite direction of your fearsMake declarations and affirmationsHow you see yourself is how you treat yourselfTransformation application: Pick one of the three self-awareness exercises listed above and put it into action.
