In this week's exploration of the story of Balaam from Numbers 22, we're challenged to examine our deepest desires and their impact on our spiritual lives. The central question posed is deceptively simple yet profoundly impactful: 'What do you want?' Through Balaam's tragic journey, we see how even those who know God's will can be led astray by their own wants. This narrative serves as a stark warning against allowing our personal desires to overshadow God's plan for us. The 'doctrine of Balaam' – pursuing our wants to the point of compromising God's will – is a pitfall we must vigilantly guard against. As we reflect on this, we're called to examine our own hearts, listen to the warnings God places in our lives (even if they come from unexpected sources), and train ourselves to align our desires with God's. This message reminds us that true fulfillment comes not from getting what we want, but from wanting what God wants for us.

Ikigai: A Reason For Being: The Japanese concept of Ikigai when translated means "a reason for being." There are four core elements that contribute to the concept of Ikigai. What you love, what you are good at, what the world needs, and what you can get paid for are shown as individual strands coming together. The intersection of these areas is depicted as the central point of Ikigai, suggesting that finding fulfillment and purpose involves balancing these aspects of life.Ikigai arises from the harmonious convergence of these four aspects. What you're good at: This represents your skills, talents, and abilities. What you love: This encompasses your passions, interests, and what brings you joy. What the world needs: This pertains to the contributions you can make that are valuable to society. What you can get paid for: This refers to your profession or vocation through which you can earn a living. When these four elements are aligned, you find your purpose or "reason for being," which is the essence of Ikigai.********************* Content Disclaimer ** This podcast has been created with the help of AI, using content from the FutureSTRONG Academy blog library. In this episode, we dive into the first pillar of the Men's Collective's five pillars of purpose: Perspective. Pierre and Travis engage in a deep discussion about what perspective means and why it's the indispensable starting point for personal growth and true fulfillment beyond traditional measures of success.Understanding perspective is crucial because it offers a lens through which men can reassess their life's trajectory and redefine success from personal fulfillment rather than societal expectations. This redefined view serves as a catalyst for deeper connections with oneself and others, fostering authentic interactions that transcend superficial achievements.Highlights The Fulfillment vs. Success Dichotomy: Pierre and Travis explore the difference between traditional success markers like financial achievements or credentials and true fulfillment. They discuss the importance of understanding life stories and experiences to pave the way for a meaningful future. Zooming Out for Deeper Insight: The discussion emphasizes the value of stepping back to take a broader look at one's goals and achievements. By doing so, men can better align their daily lives with what genuinely fulfills them, beyond material accomplishments. Connection over Competition: The episode highlights the powerful shift from competition to camaraderie among men when they let go of accolades and truly connect on the basis of humanity and shared experience. It underscores the creation of a supportive community where authenticity and genuine relationships thrive. As you reflect on this episode, consider this: How are you currently defining success in your life, and is it bringing you true fulfillment? Take a moment to zoom out and reassess. Identify one area where your perception of success might be more aligned with societal expectations than personal fulfillment, and consider what changes could help you feel more fulfilled and authentically connected to yourself and others.JOIN THE COLLECTIVE:JOIN THE MEN'S COLLECTIVE:CLICK HEREJOIN THE MAILING LIST & GET INVOLVED!CLICK HERE: MAILING LISTINSTAGRAM: MENSCOLLECTIVE.COWATCH ON YOUTUBE:WATCH HEREConnect and Support Travis:YouTube: Travis GoodmanInstagram: @travis.goodman.lmftWeb: TravisGoodmanLMFT.comConnect and Support Pierre:Instagram: Braver.ManWeb: BraverManCoaching.com

The sunset is impossible to grasp. One moment, it's glowing—golden and brilliant. The next, it's gone, slipping beyond the horizon. No matter how much you wish it would remain, darkness quickly takes over. Welcome to The Daily. We go through the bible verse-by-verse, chapter-by-chapter, every single day. Our text today is Ecclesiastes 6:12. For who knows what is good for man while he lives the few days of his vain life, which he passes like a shadow?— Ecclesiastes 6:12 That's life. Life isn't just short—it's fleeting, like a shadow moving across the ground. We chase after success, wealth, and comfort, hoping they'll bring us meaning. But no matter how much we grab, they slip through our fingers. Because shadows have no substance. They look real, but they aren't. They shift, stretch, and disappear with time. The things we think will satisfy—bigger paychecks, more recognition, the next big achievement—often leave us empty. They promise security but deliver uncertainty. They look solid but fade when the light changes. But here's the truth: where there's a shadow, there's light. And that's what we're meant to chase. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12). Instead of running after things that vanish, we're called to run toward Him—the only One who never fades. So, what are you chasing? Are you grasping at shadows or reaching for the Light? #LifeIsShort, #ChasingLight, #FaithOverFleeting ASK THIS: What shadows have you been chasing in your life? How have temporary pursuits left you feeling empty? What does John 8:12 reveal about where true fulfillment is found? How can you intentionally pursue the Light of Christ today? DO THIS: Spend five minutes today reflecting on what you're chasing—then ask God to shift your focus to what truly lasts. PRAY THIS: Lord, help me stop grasping at what fades and start pursuing what lasts. Draw me closer to Your light so I may walk in truth. Amen. PLAY THIS: Chasing Rebels.

Read Online“What profit is there for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?” Mark 8:36This short and direct question is worth much meditation. In Mark's Gospel, this line comes within the context of Jesus teaching about the requirements of being His disciple. And it comes after Jesus began to explicitly teach that He Himself would suffer and die as the Christ.Think about this question above, starting with the first part of the question. “What profit is there for one to gain the whole world…” Do you want to gain the whole world? For most people, such a possibility is quite enticing. To “gain the whole world” is to gain everything this world has to offer. Imagine being offered unlimited wealth in this world. What if you were to win the largest jackpot any lottery ever offered and more? What if you were able to have beautiful mansions around the world, your own private jet, every modern convenience, the most expensive of cars, and the ability to do whatever you wanted for the rest of your life? Is this enticing? Certainly it is on a superficial level. But it is also a very deceptive enticement, because all of this could not make you any happier or more fulfilled than you already are.The second part of this question is also easy to address. Would you want to forfeit your life? Certainly not. So Jesus offers two contrasting statements in one sentence. Most people would want to gain the whole world but would never want to forfeit their lives. Jesus sets up this contrast as a way of telling us very clearly that we cannot desire one without also choosing the other. In other words, if your heart's desire is for the riches of this world, then you do indeed forfeit your very life to the extent that you give into that desire. On the contrary, if you choose the salvation of your soul, then you must forfeit the desire for the riches and enticements of this world. You cannot desire and choose both. With that said, there might be a very rare soul who has many things in this world but has no attachment to them at all. They live completely detached from the things of this world, finding true satisfaction only in God and His holy will, becoming indifferent to any material things they have. Of course, this is a very difficult interior disposition for one to arrive at when they have accumulated much wealth.Alternately, there are those in this world who have very little. They are truly poor in the literal sense. However, they spend their days dreaming about riches and covet all that they do not have. Sadly, this poor soul is, in fact, just as materially attached as the one who has made riches the goal and focus of life. And that interior attachment will do great spiritual damage. Reflect, today, upon this question of Jesus: “What profit is there for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?” Use that question as a source of prayer, meditation and self-examination. Try to be honest about your desires. If you find that you spend much time daydreaming about riches, then pay particular attention to this question. Life in its fullness can never be obtained through those desires or the fulfillment of those desires. God and God alone fulfills. Seek God above all else and you will find that nothing this world has to offer comes close to the riches of the Kingdom of God. Lord, You and You alone are the source of fulfillment in life. Please purify my desires so that I ultimately desire only You and Your holy will. Free me from every deception and false enticement in life so that I will find satisfaction only in You. Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2025 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. How lasting joy and purpose can be found in doing God's will
In today's episode, we explore John 4, where we encounter the transformative meeting between Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well. This sacred dialogue illuminates significant themes such as overcoming cultural barriers, satisfying our deep spiritual thirst, and engaging in transformative conversations—all of which guide us toward understanding the "Living Water" that Jesus graciously offers. Our journey begins with a thoughtful reflection on the necessity of genuine spiritual hydration, drawing a compelling parallel to the perils of physical dehydration in the harsh deserts of Egypt. This vivid illustration sets the stage for a deeper study of the scripture, inviting us to contemplate our own spiritual needs in contrast to the fleeting desires of the world. As we continue our exploration of the text, the discussion centers on Jesus's deliberate choice to travel through Samaria—an intentional act of breaking socio-cultural norms to reach a woman marginalized by her society. The sermon carefully examines the powerful interaction at Jacob's well, where Jesus extends the gift of "living water," a symbol of eternal life and the infinite satisfaction found only in Him.The episode then shifts its focus to highlight Jesus's compassionate outreach, challenging societal judgments and exemplifying unwavering acceptance. In this inspiring reinterpretation, the Samaritan woman emerges not as an outcast, but as a testament to the transformative power of encountering Christ. The climax of the sermon reveals a pivotal moment when Jesus openly declares His messianic identity to the Samaritan woman—a revelation that sparks both personal and communal transformation, evolving from a private conversation into a village-wide proclamation of faith. In conclusion, the sermon invites us to reflect upon our own spiritual journeys, encouraging us to examine the “wells” we frequent in our quest for fulfillment. Listeners are inspired to relinquish temporary satisfactions and wholeheartedly embrace the living water offered by Jesus, thereby carrying forward a message of redemption and eternal hope.Support the showPastor Broderick Santiago | MOSAIC CHURCHDaily Live Prayer: @MosaicMableton Facebook PageGet Connected or Learn More: bit.ly/mosaicconnection Live Generously: https://wearemosaicchurch.org/give/ www.wearemosaicchurch.orgSundays 10amWednesdays 7pmDaily Online Prayer 7am (M-F)Social Media/ YouTube: @mosaicmabletonbit.ly/mosaicprayerMosaic Church

Our modern world thrives on the pursuit of the next big thing—new gadgets, groundbreaking ideas, and revolutionary trends. But what if the wisdom of ages past tells us we're not as innovative as we think? Solomon's timeless words confront our endless chase: “There is nothing new under the sun.” Welcome to the Daily. We go through the bible verse-by-verse, chapter-by-chapter, every single day. Our text today is Ecclesiastes 1:8-10. All things are full of weariness; a man cannot utter it; the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun. Is there a thing of which it is said, “See, this is new”? It has been already in the ages before us. — Ecclesiastes 1:8-10 Solomon paints a striking picture of our restless striving that wears humanity out. Eyes continually search for something new to see; ears remain hungry for the next revelation. Yet, the wisest man declares, there's nothing genuinely new—only cycles and patterns that repeat even in our lives. The human heart seeks satisfaction in momentary innovations but ultimately finds them empty. Solomon challenges us to see through the allure of novelty and grasp a deeper truth: we are chasing shadows, forgetting the One who fulfills. Think about the latest mobile phone. We eagerly anticipate its release, marvel at its features, and convince ourselves it's a must-have. But the satisfaction fades, doesn't it? In a few months, the next version is teased, and suddenly, the phone in your hand feels outdated. This cycle repeats endlessly, leaving us craving more but never truly fulfilled. Solomon's wisdom captures this human tendency perfectly: "The eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.” We live in a world where innovation is constant, yet our souls remain unsatisfied. We look to momentary advancements, hoping they will meet our deepest needs. But the truth is, what's marketed as "new" is often just a repackaging of the same old pursuit—one that will ultimately wear us down and out. Solomon witnessed this in his time, and it's no different today. Instead of chasing what's "under the sun," Solomon encourages us to lift our eyes above it. True satisfaction comes from pursuing eternal matters—the things of God. His love, His truth, and His purpose are the only sources that can fill the emptiness in our hearts. These are not bound by time or trends; they are everlasting. So, the next time you feel drawn to the newest and flashiest, pause. Ask yourself this one question: Am I building my life on what sparkles for a moment—or shines forever? True joy and fulfillment come when we focus on the eternal—what is above the sun, not under it. #EternalWisdom, #NothingNewUnderTheSun, #TrueFulfillment ASK THIS: What does Solomon mean when he says, “There is nothing new under the sun”? How have you experienced the emptiness of pursuing momentary trends? What does it look like to seek satisfaction in eternal matters instead of temporary ones? How can God's love and purpose provide true fulfillment in your life? DO THIS: Pause and reflect before your next pursuit of something "new." Ask yourself if it aligns with eternal truths or fleeting desires. PRAY THIS: Lord, help me to see through the fleeting allure of worldly pursuits. Teach me to find lasting satisfaction in Your eternal truths. Amen. PLAY THIS: Fear Is Not My Future.
Does life sometimes feel like an endless cycle? We wake, work, sleep, and repeat. It's as if we're part of the same rhythm that moves the sun, the wind, and the streams—but where is it all heading? Welcome to the Daily. We go through the bible verse-by-verse, chapter-by-chapter, every single day. Our text today is Ecclesiastes 1:5-7. The sun rises, and the sun goes down, and hastens to the place where it rises. The wind blows to the south and goes around to the north; around and around goes the wind, and on its circuits the wind returns. All streams run to the sea, but the sea is not full; to the place where the streams flow, there they flow again. — Ecclesiastes 1:5-7 Solomon paints a vivid picture of perpetual motion in nature: the sun's endless cycle, the wind's unceasing currents, and the streams flowing relentlessly into a sea that's never filled. He reflects on the repetitive rhythms of creation, pointing out the monotony of life "under the sun"—a life that can feel like it's stuck in an endless loop. But where does it all lead? Why does everything repeat? This isn't just poetic observation. Solomon challenges us to look beyond the physical cycles of life to the spiritual reality that gives them meaning. The natural world may operate in relentless loops, but these cycles signal something deeper—a longing in the human heart for purpose, direction, and fulfillment. Maybe you've felt caught in this loop. Maybe you've reached out for prayer, like many others, feeling frustrated by the grind. And while it's tempting to think we need to break the loop, Solomon's point is this: we can't change the loop—we can only reach beyond it. If life feels like an endless grind, a series of routines that never truly change, take heart—you're not alone. But instead of living in frustration, shift your focus. Recenter your perspective on God's design and sovereignty. The loops of the sun, wind, and water may seem mundane, but they remind us of a Creator who sustains all things with perfect order and consistency. Live with eternity in mind. Don't just live in the loop—learn the lesson behind the loop. #EternalPerspective, #DailyDevotional, #BibleReflection ASK THIS: What daily routines or cycles in your life feel repetitive or monotonous? How do the natural rhythms in Ecclesiastes 1 remind you of God's design and sovereignty? What would it look like to live with eternity in mind in your daily grind? How can you trust God's purpose when life feels stuck in a loop? DO THIS: Take five minutes today to reflect on a repetitive cycle in your life and ask God to reveal His purpose within it. PRAY THIS: Lord, when life feels like an endless cycle, help me to see Your hand at work in the rhythms of my days. Teach me to live with eternity in mind, trusting in Your purpose and plan. Amen. PLAY THIS: Made For More.

[00:00] **Why I'm Sharing This Episode**- I recorded this episode on January 1st for my private, client-only podcast.- I'm sharing it here so you can get a feel for my day-to-day support and also to highlight the core message on shifting from goal-setting to vision creation.- I'm hosting a **90-minute Emotional Mastery Workshop** on January 8th, 2025, where I'll guide attendees to: - Reclaim control of their emotions and thoughts. - Align with their deepest desires. - Wake up daily with confidence, clarity, and joy.- This workshop is open to only 10 people, so anyone interested can sign up at joinamanda.ca [03:30] **My Reflection on 2025**- I'm amazed that we're already in 2025 and how time seems to fly.- I want to shift the focus from typical goal-setting to **vision creation** because I find it more effective, fulfilling, and less anxiety-inducing. [04:15] **Why I Favor Vision Creation Over Goal Setting**- **Traditional Goal Setting** often makes us tie our self-worth to the outcome. If I meet the goal, I'm “good enough,” and if I don't, I'm not.- In my own life, I've gone to extremes when I was strictly “goal-oriented”—like unhealthy weight-loss methods—just to hit a target.- **Vision Creation**, on the other hand, centers on the experience I want to cultivate and the values I want to honor. [08:45] **How I Approach Vision Creation**1. **Start with Emotions**: - I ask myself which emotions I want to prioritize this year (e.g., peace, joy, satisfaction, love). - These emotions become the foundation for my choices and actions.2. **Align Goals with Values**: - If satisfaction and joy are my priorities, I'll check whether my goals—say, earning a certain amount of money—fit with these emotions. - My actions will then be powered by feelings that are sustainable, rather than driven by anxiety or external pressure. [12:00] **Decoupling Self-Worth from Achievements**- I remind myself that my value as a person isn't dependent on hitting a specific milestone.- When I create a vision, I keep my self-worth separate from the final outcome. This frees me from burnout and fosters genuine growth. [14:15] **Practical Steps for Vision Creation**- I reflect on questions like: - *What are the emotions I want to feel every day in 2025?* - *What values guide the life I'm building?* - *How can I take actions that align with these emotions and values?*- This process gives me a sense of control, clarity, and consistent momentum. [16:45] **My Offer to Help**- If you're my client, feel free to bring this up in our next session. I'd love to dive deeper and create a personalized vision for you.- If you're not a client but have access to this podcast, I invite you to book a **discovery call** at amandahess.ca. It's a great way to explore how we can work together on your vision. [18:00] **Closing & Call to Action**- I encourage you to review these steps and start crafting your 2025 vision.- Please consider leaving a review—it helps my podcast reach more people who need this message.- If you're ready to stop managing stress and anxiety alone, book a free consult with me at amandahess.ca **Happy New Year, and here's to a fulfilling and vision-driven 2025!**
Have you ever achieved something you worked hard for and realized it left you feeling unfulfilled and empty? Me neither
Chapter 1:Summary of The Happiness Trap"The Happiness Trap" by Russ Harris is based on the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which encourages individuals to embrace their thoughts and feelings rather than avoiding or fighting them. Harris argues that the pursuit of happiness often leads to unhappiness because we become trapped in our thoughts, chasing after an idealized version of happiness instead of accepting our current experiences. The book presents several key concepts:1. Cognitive Defusion: This technique involves distancing oneself from negative thoughts, seeing them as separate from oneself rather than as absolute truths. This helps reduce their power and influence.2. Acceptance: Instead of trying to eliminate uncomfortable thoughts and feelings, the book advocates for accepting them as a natural part of life. This acceptance can lead to greater emotional flexibility.3. Mindfulness: Harris emphasizes the importance of being present and fully engaging in the moment, which can enhance overall well-being.4. Values Clarification: The book guides readers in identifying their core values and aligning their actions with these values, promoting a sense of purpose and fulfillment.5. Committed Action: Taking steps towards living a value-driven life, even in the presence of discomfort, is crucial for achieving personal goals and enhancing overall happiness.Overall, "The Happiness Trap" encourages readers to shift their perspective on happiness, recognizing that it is often a byproduct of living a meaningful life rather than a direct goal to strive for. By practicing acceptance, mindfulness, and committing to values-based actions, individuals can discover a deeper, more lasting sense of well-being.Chapter 2:The Theme of The Happiness Trap"The Happiness Trap" by Russ Harris is a self-help book that introduces Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a psychological approach that emphasizes acceptance of difficult emotions, commitment to actions that enhance one's life, and mindfulness practices to improve mental well-being. While the book doesn't have a traditional plot or characters like a novel, it does contain key ideas, concepts, and themes that drive its message. Here are the essential points organized by key plot points, character development (in a metaphorical sense), and thematic ideas: Key Plot Points1. Understanding Happiness Myths: Harris starts by debunking common myths about happiness, such as the idea that happiness should be constant or that avoiding negative thoughts leads to happiness. This serves as a foundation for understanding how traditional approaches to happiness can be counterproductive.2. The Pain-Acceptance Paradox: The book introduces the concept that trying to avoid or eliminate discomfort often leads to greater suffering. Accepting painful thoughts and feelings is a crucial step towards genuine happiness.3. Mindfulness and Present Moment Awareness: Harris emphasizes the importance of mindfulness, teaching readers to focus on the present moment and to observe their thoughts without judgment as a practice for fostering acceptance.4. Values Clarification: A significant point in the book is helping readers identify and clarify their personal values. By determining what truly matters to them, readers can align their actions accordingly, leading to a more meaningful life.5. Defusion Techniques: The book outlines techniques for cognitive defusion—drawing a distinction between thoughts and reality, which allows individuals to lessen the impact of negative thoughts.6. Committed Action: Harris encourages taking committed action in alignment with one's values, even in the presence of difficult emotions. This involves setting goals and acting on them despite fears or discomfort. Character DevelopmentWhile "The...
