Un podcast evidente… que no hemos hecho. ¿Por qué? ¡Porque es inabarcable! Pero se me ha ocurrido una idea: Vamos a hacer un repaso a la historia de la moto a través de hitos, mitos, curiosidades y hechos históricos… Y sí, ya en 1885 los alemanes presentaron su Reitwagen, en español “carro de montar”, de la cual existe una réplica, con motor de combustión entonces llamado de “Ciclo Otto” con 0,5 CV y una endiablado velocidad punta de 18 km/h. Siempre lo digo, el concepto de velocidad en este año en el que me encuentro, finales del Siglo XIX, y el vuestro en el futuro 2025, no tiene nada que ver. El progreso de la motocicleta fue rápido y muy “loco”. El francés Georges Gauthier, en 1902, refinó la motocicleta, construyendo una con el motor encerrado, una plataforma para los pies y que era más limpia y práctica. En el futuro se conocerá como Scooter, pero en el momento de su invención se llamó primero “Moto-sillón”; porque era eso, un sillón motorizado, y más tarde “motoneta” nombre que aún se usa en algunos lugares de América. Hablamos de América, concretamente de Norteamérica. Y es que solo un año más tarde, ya estamos en 1903, ¡como pasa el tiempo!, nace en Milwaukee, Wisconsin, EE.UU. de Norteamérica, la marca Harley Davidson. Nace en un famoso cobertizo, pero es una de las marcas con más historia y personalidad que ha llegado muy viva hasta nuestros días. Para poder competir con los automóviles que ya comenzaban a ser más asequibles las motos pasan de dos a tres ruedas. No, no te imagines triciclos como los de ahora, me refiero al invento de los “side-cars”, un carito de una rueda que se fija a un lateral de la moto, al izquierdo en lo países que circulan por la derecha y al derecho en los que países que circulan por la izquierda. Era una forma barata y rápida de multiplicar por dos la capacidad de la moto… aunque fuese a costa de dividir por dos sus prestaciones y de una conducción que era muy delicada. Hay “sidecars” que se acoplan a cualquier moto, pero hay motos que nacen ya con el “Sidecar” y que incluso llevan tracción en esa rueda, como sería el caso, en el futuro 1940, de las BMW R75 especialmente las que serían utilizadas por el ejército alemán. Sigue corriendo el tiempo y entre 1920 y 1930 se produce un cambio. La moto que había nacido como una forma de transporte barata, sencilla y asequible, con espíritu utilitario, va tomando una deriva hacia una máquina para el ocio y el viaje de placer. Y si hay una moto que representa ese cambio es la BMW R32 de 1923, con detalles tan modernos como su motor bóxer y su transmisión por cardan. Una moto que era mucho más rápida y fiable que sus contemporáneas. Y entre esas motos de alta gama, casi de lujo, en 1936 aparece la reina, la que llamamos en estos años “El Rolls Royce de las motos”, la Brough Superior SS100, nada menos que la moto utilizada por el “héroe” Lawrence de Arabia que ha llegado a comprar 8. ¿Quién nos iba a decir que tras una guerra Mundial llegará rápidamente otra? Solo fueron necesarios 20 años, 9 meses y 21 días... se ve que no habíamos escarmentado. No sé cuál fue peor, pero sí que la moto fue más protagonista en la Segunda que en la Primera, gracias no solo a las BMW alemanas, sino también a sus “copias” rusas la Ural y a las Harley Davidson de los norteamericanos. En la postguerra la moto resurge como una opción muy interesante, pero en una doble vía como ya hemos comentado: Por un lado, se refuerza como vehículo practico, barato y sobre todo urbano, granas a Honda en Japón y a Vespa en Europa, pero por otro lado nace la “cultura motera”, aficionados que buscan las motos grandes por sus prestaciones y, sobre todo, sensaciones. La marca Honda nace en Japón y en 1958 lanza un scooter diseñado por el propio Sohichiro Honda y su socio, Takeo Fujisawa que se convierte en todo un éxito. Era una moto práctica, fiable, bien hecha y que mejoraba año tras año… Cuando estaba en el futuro, en el año 2025, comprobé que ya van fabricadas más de ¡100 millones de unidades!... no me extraña. Antes, en Europa, otro genio había tenido una idea genial: Aprovechando lo que había, entre otras cosas las ruedas de los trenes de aterrizaje de los aviones ya inservibles, creo un Scooter que hizo escuela… La “abeja” en italiano, Vespa, una moto que no solo era una alternativa al transporte, sino que, gracias a su calidad, y por qué no decirlo, también a su aparición en la película “Vacaciones en Roma” nada menos que con Audrey Hepburn de “paquete” y Gregory Peck a los mandos. Volvemos al momento actual. Y vemos que en 1960 Honda lanzó una moto que cambia las reglas del juego: la Honda CB750. Hasta ese momento las motos eran rudas, incluso sucias, poco fiables. La CB era una moto suave, incluso dulce, con mandos de mantequilla, silenciosa, rápida y muy bonita.

Tatsächlich hat Russland Frankreich nie bedroht, sondern dem Land im Gegenteil in zwei Weltkriegen geholfen, seine Unabhängigkeit und Souveränität zu verteidigen. Im Ersten Weltkrieg werden Grenzverschiebungen bei einem erwarteten deutschen Sieg von unterschiedlichen Akteuren gefordert. Nach dem Scheitern der Weltmachtbestrebungen und dem Vertrag von Versailles versprechen die Nationalsozialisten dem „Volk ohne Raum“ eine Grenzerweiterung bis zum Ural. Mit dem Untergang des Dritten Reiches stellt die innerdeutsche Grenze dann nicht mehr eine nationale, sondern zunächst die von Verwaltungseinheiten der Besatzungsmächte dar. Nach der Grenzöffnung und dem Mauerfall 1989 sind die Grenzen des wiedervereinigten Deutschlands, vor allem im Osten, erstmals in der deutschen Geschichte klar definiert. Am Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts wird die Zukunft des Landes schließlich in einem grenzenlosen Aufgehen der deutschen Nation in Europa gesehen. Mit all den daraus sich ergebenden Folgen.

Chẳng vậy mà, trước khi lên đường tới Vienna, Kennedy đã phải dừng chân ở Paris để tham khảo ý kiến tổng thống Pháp, vị lão tướng Charles de Gaulle.Thượng đỉnh Kennedy-Khrushchev mở ra trong hai ngày 03 và 04/06/1961 tại thủ đô nước Áo. Hơn 1.500 phóng viên quốc tế tập hợp về Vienna để đưa tin.Về hình thức, lãnh đạo hai nước họp kín với một dàn cố vấn trong bầu không khí « giá lạnh ». Như thông lệ, Khrushchev dùng những lời lẽ đao to búa lớn để hù dọa đối phương. Kennedy càng tỏ ra chừng mực và từ tốn chừng nào, Khrushchev lại càng lấn lướt chừng nấy. Thậm chí theo lời một người trong cuộc, Khrushchev « mắng » Kennedy như mắng trẻ con.Về nội dung thượng đỉnh Vienna, Kennedy muốn tập trung vào hồ sơ nguyên tử, Khrushchev sau khi dậy cho tổng thống Mỹ một bài học về thuyết Mác-Lênin, đòi Nhà Trắng giải quyết dứt điểm về quy chế của Tây Berlin, công nhận hai nước Đông và Tây Đức. Đây là lần thứ ba Matxcơva đòi Washington trở lại hồ sơ này.Với Liên Xô ốc đảo Tây Berlin giữa lòng nước Đông Đức cộng sản là một cái gai : sự phồn thịnh của Tây Berlin càng làm lộ rõ cách biệt về đời sống giữa hai khối Tự Do và Cộng Sản. Khoảng cách đó hủy hoại những nỗ lực tuyên truyền của khối Xã Hội Chủ Nghĩa.Kết thúc hai ngày họp, thượng đỉnh Vienna không đem lại một kết quả cụ thể nào. Trước khi ra về Khrushchev dọa Kennedy và phương Tây trước viễn cảnh nổ ra chiến tranh. Tổng thống Mỹ lễ phép đáp lời Chủ tịch Liên Xô : « Nếu như vậy thưa Ngài, thì chiến tranh sẽ xảy ra. Đó sẽ là một mùa đông buốt giá… »Rời Vienna, Khrushchev biết rõ ông đã áp đảo được đối phương và buông lời nhận xét về Kennedy như sau : « Hắn quá trẻ, chưa đủ già dặn, rất thông minh, nhưng quá nhu nhược ».JFK thì buột miệng than với các cộng tác viên là ông đã thực sự bị Khrushchev « xơi tái ». Nhưng qua cuộc chạm trán đó, Kennedy tin chắc tổng bí thư Đảng Cộng Sản Liên Xô chỉ muốn « nắn gân » nước Mỹ : Matxcơva sẽ không khai chiến vì Berlin hay vì Đông Đức, bởi « có điên mới lao vào cuộc chiến » mà Khrushchev chắc chắn không phải là người điên.Kennedy không nhượng bộ tại Vienna lần này, nhưng Khrushchev hy vọng sẽ có cách « trị » ông tổng thống Mỹ còn non tay này. Matxcơva đợi cơ hội.Tháng 08/1961, điện Kremlin ngỡ rằng thời cơ đã đến. Trong đêm 12 rạng sáng ngày 13/08/1961, chính quyền Water Ulbricht bất đầu xây dựng bức tường « ô nhục » như để thách thức Washington. Căng thẳng Đông-Tây gia tăng thêm một nấc vào tháng 10 cùng năm khi chiến xa của Mỹ và Liên Xô « đối mặt » nhau trong nhiều giờ đồng hồ. Chỉ cần một tiếng súng, một sự cố nhỏ cũng đủ dẫn đến những hậu quả tai hại khôn lường.Không xảy ra chiến tranh, nhưng bức tường Berlin lại càng làm xấu thêm hình ảnh của Liên Xô trong công luận quốc tế.Khủng hoảng tên lửa Cuba Tại Washington Kennedy chịu áp lực của phe diều hâu chủ chiến. Ở Matxcơva, Khrushchev cũng không thoải mái hơn dưới sức ép của cơ quan Mật Vụ KGB và bên quân đội.Đầu năm 1962, viện cớ bảo vệ chế độ Castro ở Cuba, Liên Xô bí mật triển khai tên lửa, tàu ngầm, đưa quân sang sát cạnh lãnh thổ Hoa Kỳ. Kremlin thừa biết, sau thất bại ê chề ở Vịnh Con Heo, Mỹ không động chạm tới Cuba, nhưng Liên Xô muốn dùng lá bài Cuba để mặc cả với Mỹ về quy chế của Berlin. Tháng 10 cùng năm, kế hoạch của Liên Xô bị phát hiện.Tiếp theo đó là một cuộc khủng hoảng kéo dài trong 13 ngày. Tên lửa SS-4 của Liên Xô có sức công phá lớn gấp 200 lần so với quả bom đã thả xuống thành phố Hiroshima.Phe diều hâu chủ trương « ra tay trước » đối phương. Kennedy do dự và một lần nữa ông bị chỉ trích là « nhu nhược ». Trên thực tế, với Dean Rusk và Robert McNamara ở vị trí bộ trưởng Ngoại Giao và Quốc Phòng, JFK không « do dự hay yếu đuối ». Nhà Trắng nhìn thấy rõ nước cờ của điện Kremlin : triển khai tên lửa tại Cuba để mặc cả với phương Tây về Berlin. Kennedy nêu lên nghi vấn : Biết đâu, Liên Xô cũng e bom nguyên tử của Mỹ ?Còn tại Matxcơva, phe bảo thủ và diều hâu Liên Xô cũng dồn Khrushchev vào chân tường. Bên quân đội cũng chủ trương « đánh trước ».Ngày 22/10/1962 trong bài diễn văn để đời, tổng thống Kennedy chính thức thông báo phát hiện vũ khí của Nga tại Cuba, ban hành lệnh phong tỏa hòn đảo này. Không đi đến chiến tranh, nhưng thái độ của Mỹ không có chút gì là « nhu nhược ». Thông điệp của Nhà Trắng được chủ nhân điện Kremlin đón nhận như một tin vui. Khrushchev ý thức được rằng, Kennedy không tấn công ngay lập tức, có nghĩa là Washington tạm gác giải pháp quân sự sang một bên. Chiến tranh sẽ không xảy ra.Tối ngày hôm đó, Nikita S. Khrushchev an tâm đi xem hát : đó là buổi trình diễn của nam danh ca Mỹ Jerome Hines.Khác với Khrushchev, Kennedy không chơi đòn rung cây dọa khỉ, nhưng trong cuộc đọ sức tay đôi giữa hai ông « K », phần thắng đã nghiêng hẳn về phía Washington. Dù vậy Kennedy đã để ngỏ một cánh cửa, không để đối phương mất mặt.Sau một số các cuộc trao đổi trực tiếp, JFK lo ngại Khrushchev không hoàn toàn làm chủ tình hình ở Matxcơva. Đôi bên nhanh chóng tìm được thỏa thuận quy định Liên Xô rút vũ khí khỏi Cuba. Mỹ thì cam kết không động chạm đến chế độ Castro ở La Habana, và rút tên lửa Jupiter đặt tại Thổ Nhĩ Kỳ.Hạ màn Sau trận đối đầu kịch liệt đó, mở ra một thời kỳ « tan băng » - tiêu biểu nhất là đường dây điện thoại đỏ Hot Line giữa Nhà Trắng và điện Kremlin. Tổng thống Kennedy liên tục có những phát biểu hòa hoãn hướng về phía Liên Xô. Đổi lại, Khrushchev đã bằng lòng đàm phán với Mỹ về một thỏa thuận hạt nhân.Trong trên dưới một ngàn ngày tại Nhà Trắng, John F. Kennedy cùng với Nikita S. Khrushchev đã là tâm điểm trên sân khấu chính trị quốc tế, để rồi cả hai nhà lãnh đạo này đều bước vào hậu trường gần như cùng lúc.Tổng thống Mỹ, JFK bị ám sát tại Dallas tháng 11/1963. Jacqueline Kennedy viết : Từng là những đối thủ của nhau, nhưng hai ông Kennedy và Khrushchev lại là những « đồng minh trước quyết tâm để thế giới không bị phá hủy (…) Các vị đã tôn trọng lẫn nhau và đã có thể tìm ra một tiếng nói chung (…) Những vĩ nhân ý thức được rằng, họ cần kềm chế, còn những kẻ xoàng xĩnh thường bị nỗi sợ hãi và sự kiêu ngạo thôi thúc (…) Phải chi mà trong tương lai, những con người tầm thường cũng có thể cùng ngồi vào bàn đàm phán trước khi dùng đến vũ lực … ».

Chẳng vậy mà, trước khi lên đường tới Vienna, Kennedy đã phải dừng chân ở Paris để tham khảo ý kiến tổng thống Pháp, vị lão tướng Charles de Gaulle.Thượng đỉnh Kennedy-Khrushchev mở ra trong hai ngày 03 và 04/06/1961 tại thủ đô nước Áo. Hơn 1.500 phóng viên quốc tế tập hợp về Vienna để đưa tin.Về hình thức, lãnh đạo hai nước họp kín với một dàn cố vấn trong bầu không khí « giá lạnh ». Như thông lệ, Khrushchev dùng những lời lẽ đao to búa lớn để hù dọa đối phương. Kennedy càng tỏ ra chừng mực và từ tốn chừng nào, Khrushchev lại càng lấn lướt chừng nấy. Thậm chí theo lời một người trong cuộc, Khrushchev « mắng » Kennedy như mắng trẻ con.Về nội dung thượng đỉnh Vienna, Kennedy muốn tập trung vào hồ sơ nguyên tử, Khrushchev sau khi dậy cho tổng thống Mỹ một bài học về thuyết Mác-Lênin, đòi Nhà Trắng giải quyết dứt điểm về quy chế của Tây Berlin, công nhận hai nước Đông và Tây Đức. Đây là lần thứ ba Matxcơva đòi Washington trở lại hồ sơ này.Với Liên Xô ốc đảo Tây Berlin giữa lòng nước Đông Đức cộng sản là một cái gai : sự phồn thịnh của Tây Berlin càng làm lộ rõ cách biệt về đời sống giữa hai khối Tự Do và Cộng Sản. Khoảng cách đó hủy hoại những nỗ lực tuyên truyền của khối Xã Hội Chủ Nghĩa.Kết thúc hai ngày họp, thượng đỉnh Vienna không đem lại một kết quả cụ thể nào. Trước khi ra về Khrushchev dọa Kennedy và phương Tây trước viễn cảnh nổ ra chiến tranh. Tổng thống Mỹ lễ phép đáp lời Chủ tịch Liên Xô : « Nếu như vậy thưa Ngài, thì chiến tranh sẽ xảy ra. Đó sẽ là một mùa đông buốt giá… »Rời Vienna, Khrushchev biết rõ ông đã áp đảo được đối phương và buông lời nhận xét về Kennedy như sau : « Hắn quá trẻ, chưa đủ già dặn, rất thông minh, nhưng quá nhu nhược ».JFK thì buột miệng than với các cộng tác viên là ông đã thực sự bị Khrushchev « xơi tái ». Nhưng qua cuộc chạm trán đó, Kennedy tin chắc tổng bí thư Đảng Cộng Sản Liên Xô chỉ muốn « nắn gân » nước Mỹ : Matxcơva sẽ không khai chiến vì Berlin hay vì Đông Đức, bởi « có điên mới lao vào cuộc chiến » mà Khrushchev chắc chắn không phải là người điên.Kennedy không nhượng bộ tại Vienna lần này, nhưng Khrushchev hy vọng sẽ có cách « trị » ông tổng thống Mỹ còn non tay này. Matxcơva đợi cơ hội.Tháng 08/1961, điện Kremlin ngỡ rằng thời cơ đã đến. Trong đêm 12 rạng sáng ngày 13/08/1961, chính quyền Water Ulbricht bất đầu xây dựng bức tường « ô nhục » như để thách thức Washington. Căng thẳng Đông-Tây gia tăng thêm một nấc vào tháng 10 cùng năm khi chiến xa của Mỹ và Liên Xô « đối mặt » nhau trong nhiều giờ đồng hồ. Chỉ cần một tiếng súng, một sự cố nhỏ cũng đủ dẫn đến những hậu quả tai hại khôn lường.Không xảy ra chiến tranh, nhưng bức tường Berlin lại càng làm xấu thêm hình ảnh của Liên Xô trong công luận quốc tế.Khủng hoảng tên lửa Cuba Tại Washington Kennedy chịu áp lực của phe diều hâu chủ chiến. Ở Matxcơva, Khrushchev cũng không thoải mái hơn dưới sức ép của cơ quan Mật Vụ KGB và bên quân đội.Đầu năm 1962, viện cớ bảo vệ chế độ Castro ở Cuba, Liên Xô bí mật triển khai tên lửa, tàu ngầm, đưa quân sang sát cạnh lãnh thổ Hoa Kỳ. Kremlin thừa biết, sau thất bại ê chề ở Vịnh Con Heo, Mỹ không động chạm tới Cuba, nhưng Liên Xô muốn dùng lá bài Cuba để mặc cả với Mỹ về quy chế của Berlin. Tháng 10 cùng năm, kế hoạch của Liên Xô bị phát hiện.Tiếp theo đó là một cuộc khủng hoảng kéo dài trong 13 ngày. Tên lửa SS-4 của Liên Xô có sức công phá lớn gấp 200 lần so với quả bom đã thả xuống thành phố Hiroshima.Phe diều hâu chủ trương « ra tay trước » đối phương. Kennedy do dự và một lần nữa ông bị chỉ trích là « nhu nhược ». Trên thực tế, với Dean Rusk và Robert McNamara ở vị trí bộ trưởng Ngoại Giao và Quốc Phòng, JFK không « do dự hay yếu đuối ». Nhà Trắng nhìn thấy rõ nước cờ của điện Kremlin : triển khai tên lửa tại Cuba để mặc cả với phương Tây về Berlin. Kennedy nêu lên nghi vấn : Biết đâu, Liên Xô cũng e bom nguyên tử của Mỹ ?Còn tại Matxcơva, phe bảo thủ và diều hâu Liên Xô cũng dồn Khrushchev vào chân tường. Bên quân đội cũng chủ trương « đánh trước ».Ngày 22/10/1962 trong bài diễn văn để đời, tổng thống Kennedy chính thức thông báo phát hiện vũ khí của Nga tại Cuba, ban hành lệnh phong tỏa hòn đảo này. Không đi đến chiến tranh, nhưng thái độ của Mỹ không có chút gì là « nhu nhược ». Thông điệp của Nhà Trắng được chủ nhân điện Kremlin đón nhận như một tin vui. Khrushchev ý thức được rằng, Kennedy không tấn công ngay lập tức, có nghĩa là Washington tạm gác giải pháp quân sự sang một bên. Chiến tranh sẽ không xảy ra.Tối ngày hôm đó, Nikita S. Khrushchev an tâm đi xem hát : đó là buổi trình diễn của nam danh ca Mỹ Jerome Hines.Khác với Khrushchev, Kennedy không chơi đòn rung cây dọa khỉ, nhưng trong cuộc đọ sức tay đôi giữa hai ông « K », phần thắng đã nghiêng hẳn về phía Washington. Dù vậy Kennedy đã để ngỏ một cánh cửa, không để đối phương mất mặt.Sau một số các cuộc trao đổi trực tiếp, JFK lo ngại Khrushchev không hoàn toàn làm chủ tình hình ở Matxcơva. Đôi bên nhanh chóng tìm được thỏa thuận quy định Liên Xô rút vũ khí khỏi Cuba. Mỹ thì cam kết không động chạm đến chế độ Castro ở La Habana, và rút tên lửa Jupiter đặt tại Thổ Nhĩ Kỳ.Hạ màn Sau trận đối đầu kịch liệt đó, mở ra một thời kỳ « tan băng » - tiêu biểu nhất là đường dây điện thoại đỏ Hot Line giữa Nhà Trắng và điện Kremlin. Tổng thống Kennedy liên tục có những phát biểu hòa hoãn hướng về phía Liên Xô. Đổi lại, Khrushchev đã bằng lòng đàm phán với Mỹ về một thỏa thuận hạt nhân.Trong trên dưới một ngàn ngày tại Nhà Trắng, John F. Kennedy cùng với Nikita S. Khrushchev đã là tâm điểm trên sân khấu chính trị quốc tế, để rồi cả hai nhà lãnh đạo này đều bước vào hậu trường gần như cùng lúc.Tổng thống Mỹ, JFK bị ám sát tại Dallas tháng 11/1963. Tổng bí thư Đảng Cộng Sản Liên Xô Nikita S. Khrushchev qua đời năm 1971 trong sự quên lãng của công luận và mang theo niềm cay đắng : bảy năm trước đó, ông bị hạ bệ. Sự nghiệp của Khrushchev đã khép lại khi khủng hoảng tên lửa Cuba bước vào hồi kết.Nhà sử học Georges Ayache kết luận : Trong trên dưới một ngàn ngày ở cương vị tổng thống Hoa Kỳ, Kennedy đã chứng minh ông là một vị nguyên thủ có đầu óc thực tiễn, một nhà lãnh đạo bình tĩnh và quyết tâm. Những đức tính đó của Kennedy càng làm lộ rõ hình ảnh một Nikita Khrushchev thùng rỗng kêu to.Ngày Kennedy qua đời, phu nhân tổng bí thư Khrushchev đã bất ngờ khóc khi bà đến tòa đại sứ Mỹ ở Matxcơva ký sổ tang. Một tuần sau, bà Kennedy, gửi thiệp cảm ơn đến lãnh đạo Liên Xô với lời lẽ cảm động và bất ngờ không kém. Jacqueline Kennedy viết : Từng là những đối thủ của nhau, nhưng hai ông Kennedy và Khrushchev lại là những « đồng minh trước quyết tâm để thế giới không bị phá hủy (…) Các vị đã tôn trọng lẫn nhau và đã có thể tìm ra một tiếng nói chung (…) Những vĩ nhân ý thức được rằng, họ cần kềm chế, còn những kẻ xoàng xĩnh thường bị nỗi sợ hãi và sự kiêu ngạo thôi thúc (…) Phải chi mà trong tương lai, những con người tầm thường cũng có thể cùng ngồi vào bàn đàm phán trước khi dùng đến vũ lực … ».

The Caspian Sea is the largest inland body of water in the world. Bordered by Kazakhstan, Russia, Iran, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan it spans 371,000 square kilometres and bridges Europe and Central Asia. It's fed mainly by Russia's Volga and Ural rivers and the sea is not only rich in oil and gas but is also home to numerous rare and endemic species, including the Caspian seal and 90% of the world's remaining wild sturgeon. But the Caspian Sea is in crisis. Climate change and the damming of Russia's rivers are causing the coastline to recede at an alarming rate. The sea's levels have fallen by a metre in the last 4 years, a trend likely to increase. Recent studies have shown that the levels could drop between 9 and 18 metres by 2100. Last June Kazakh government officials declared a state of emergency over the Caspian. Iran has also raised the alarm with the UN. Antonia Bolingbroke-Kent travels to Kazakhstan for Assignment to report from the shores of the Caspian Sea on what can be done to prevent an environmental disaster.

Welcome to your weekly General Aviation news update, and this week we have 4 stories for you; Phillips 66 pauses unleaded testing, Ural Airlines won't fly A320 from field, JetBlue & Spirit merger blocked, and a Balloon Crash in AZ. First up this week is Phillips 66, who has been working to create an unleaded Avgas Alternative. According to Avweb, a “major test failure” occurred and resulted in Phillips pausing the initiative. Details about the issues were not publicized by Phillips, but other sources with knowledge of the issue said the test fuel was powering a Lycoming Engine in a test cell. Sources said the engine failed due to a buildup of Manganese deposits that fouled the spark plugs and/or caused pre-ignition. We'll keep you updated if we see anything else! Next up this week is Ural Airline, who won't be flying the A320 out of that field after all. Instead Ural will scrap the A320 for parts starting next summer due to the unavailability of parts. If you're unfamiliar with this story, Ural intended to refuel the airplane and fly it out of the field where it crash landed due to fuel starvation in September of 2023. Probably for the better that the airplane is scrapped rather than risk flying out of a farm field. Third up this week is Jet Blue and Spirit Airlines. If you hadn't heard… About the bird-kidding, Jet blue was looking to purchase and basically absorb Spirit Airlines. A federal judge has blocked the 3.8 Billion take over saying it would reduce airline competition and increase fare prices. The judge said “Spirit is a small airline, But there are those who love it. To those dedicated customers of Spirit, this one's for you.” We'll keep you updated with what we see next from Spirit. Last up this week is a sad one, a hot air balloon crash in Eloy, AZ killed 4 people this week. The balloon, a Czech Republic BB 85, was initially carrying 13, however 8 folks were skydivers who exited the balloon prior to the crash. According to Police, the skydivers departure was planned and was not in response to any balloon problems. Witnesses said the copy was deflated and the balloon's basket hit hard in the desert. It's unclear what may have caused the crash but we'll keep you updated if we see anything else. Alright, that's it! In his second Exopolitics Today interview, Anton Anfalov, Ph.D., explains critical military research facilities used by the Soviet Union in studying retrieved alien spacecraft and extraterrestrial entities. These research facilities include a multilevel underground facility at the M. M. Gromov Flight Research Institute located next to the current Zhukovskiy airport complex; a Top Secret research facility inside an enormous cavern system in the Ural mountains first built by extraterrestrials; and Novosibirsk aviation plant in Eastern Siberia. In the mid-1980s, he became interested in the UFO phenomenon after the Soviet Union first relaxed its stringent secrecy policies during the glasnost era and the subsequent Presidency of Boris Yeltsin.  Dr. Anfalov has interviewed hundreds of Russian and Ukrainian whistleblowers and been given documents on the UFO phenomenon dating back to the early post-World War II Soviet era. Thanks to Dave over at the PMM podcast I am also a member of IPMS/USA but it's only because I feel an obligation to support the hobby in general. There is honestly not much for me in IPMS currently, and I'm not very engaged in the organization. However, thanks to Anthony's interview with Rob, I decided to vote on the new amendments to the constitution and by-laws, in the interest of inclusivity. I imagine there are a lot of people out there like me who would love for IPMS to promote and support their niche of this fantastic hobby but who are apathetic to the current iteration of the organization.One issue I would have loved to hear addressed in that interview is the chicken and egg problem of new contest categories. Rob said that they track the level of participation in each of their categories and try to respond with new categories and modifications to existing ones where necessary. My question then is: why would modelers enter sci-fi / gundam / other "niche" models into IPMS contests if there are no categories that properly value their contest entries? And if IPMS is waiting until they see significant levels of participation in those niches to create sensible contest categories... well, you see the problem.If IPMS wants to truly be seen as inclusive it needs to proactively court modelers in areas of the hobby that it has traditionally overlooked by reaching out to those communities and working directly with them to establish new contest categories and other opportunities within IPMS. If you want something, you have to go after it.
