We start this week in New Zealand where a man goes ghost hunting in the supposedly very haunted former Napier Prison. Did he have an intense encounter with building's most infamous spirit? Then, Dan shares three smaller tales: first involves two people hanging out alone in a park at night, having a very strange, dangerous, and disturbing encounter. Then we get a creepy baby monitor story. And the lastly, a series of confusing and disturbing texts between two people freaks us out! Lynze has her usual two tales this week. The first takes us to the middle of nowhere for a possible UFO encounter with lasting affects. Her second story brings us a haunted house that seems to be trying to tell someone something. This week on Real Horrorshow, we're heading back to high school theatre with a review of The Gallows (2015), a found-footage supernatural horror film from Blumhouse. Set twenty years after a fatal onstage accident during a small-town school play, the film follows a group of students who attempt to resurrect the cursed production in a misguided act of remembrance—with terrifying consequences. Written and directed by Chris Lofing and Travis Cluff and starring Reese Mishler, Pfeifer Brown, Ryan Shoos, and Cassidy Gifford, The Gallows taps into the uniquely nerve-wracking world of school auditoriums, stage lights, and unfinished business. Does it earn its scares, or should some shows stay closed forever? Let's break it down.
Recorded 08/18/2025 The crew had a discussion with Corn and Gallows about future payment while making plans to get triple the payment by pitting their employers against each other. But without the blessing of the rest of the party, Kandri informed Gallows that Corn is planning to ambush him to get the lightsaber. The release of their first album, 'Orchestra Of Wolves', saw Gallows quickly become one of the biggest new bands both in and out of the UK, landing a million pound deal with a major label - something that no British hardcore or punk band has managed to land since.Join me as we take a deep dive into their career, from their chaotic local shows of the early days, their fast rise through the ranks, bagging a major label deal and committing their own rock 'n' roll swindle, to their second phase and era, the legacy they've built, and the members' many different side-projects.If you've got any feedback, suggestions, additional info or suggestions on bands to cover the story of in the future, please do let me know in the comments!------------------------------SUPPORT THE PODCAST

Send us a textThe Squad unites this week for a fun weekly chats with our friends around the world. Steven is overly aggressive immediately which seems to rub off on the Swan. Swan brings us the crime report as written by our resource on the, "ground," Angela Tripsalot. This one is super interesting but of course, the Squad makes fun of tragedy. That's how you get through it. Gallows humor baby! This is a report a case out of Virginia that involves accusations that a former IRS agent conspired with his au pair, Juliana Peres Magalhães, to murder his wife, Christine Banfield, and Joseph Ryan on February 24, 2023. Swan was also instructed to work on her broadcast journalist voice. Do you think she was successful? The Dark Lord of Browntown brings us interesting information about a movie about the Mothman that was never released. Was the mafia to blame. Sorry, what mafia???? Mothman: The Film That Never Was is a documentary detailing the chaotic production of a 1997 independent horror film directed by Earthworm Jim creator Doug TenNapel. Shot in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, the original movie was abandoned due to funding loss, bizarre production hurdles, and, as explored in the documentary, alleged threats from local mafia figures. The Beaveman brings us this weeks, "Not So Grand Rounds." Hansen's disease, otherwise known throughout the ages as Leprosy. Let's end the stigma, seek compassion, provide care, and not have intercourse with Armadillos! We're talking to you Florida. And finally, the Swan brings us her attempt at jokes. We know you all look forward to that every week. Throughout the episode, the Beaveman recites the iconic monologue from Quint in the movie Jaws. Probably going to hear some form of that regularly from now on. Thank you to our listener's throughout the world. Your support means everything to us. We hope our podcast helps you get away from the BS for at least an hour or so every week. Support the show

Clare County Council is closer than ever to erecting CCTV at illegal dumping blackspots, with a commitment of March of this year. However, despite this, the practice is still widespread. The latest incident has seen bed boards, mattresses and several industrial plastic bags and refuse sacks discarded at Gallow's Hill in Meelick, which has been blighted by the behaviour. The Cratloe Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat O'Gorman has been highlighting this on social media. Pat O'Gorman spoke with Alan Morrissey on Wednesday's Morning Focus. Photo (c) Pat O'Gorman via Facebook

Send us a textA cold morning, a fortified town, and a scaffold placed just out of earshot—Charleston, Virginia tried to choreograph John Brown's end and, with it, the story the country would remember. What they could not contain was a single handwritten note that slipped past the rope and into the bloodstream of a nation already splitting at the seams. We walk the final hours with four witnesses whose perspectives refract the moment: Thomas J. Jackson, the meticulous VMI professor whose faith and discipline frame the state's show of force; Edmund Ruffin, the fire-eater who turns pikes into propaganda and sees opportunity in the gallows; David Hunter Strother, the conflicted journalist caught between honesty and editorial fear; and a young John Wilkes Booth, reading the scene as theater and quietly rehearsing a darker role. Alongside them, Brown tends his will, thanks his jailer, hands coins to his men, and chooses silence over spectacle—saving his last words for paper, not the crowd. The procession becomes public theater, the pause on the trapdoor stretches time, and the drop turns a man into a symbol. From controlled access to censored sketches, from church bells in the North to militia drills in the South, we trace how a state-managed execution became a catalyst. Keywords that matter here—John Brown, Harper's Ferry, Bleeding Kansas, Stonewall Jackson, Edmund Ruffin, John Wilkes Booth, abolition, secession, Fort Sumter—aren't just tags; they're threads that stitch a straight line from a quiet cell to a continent at war.Listen for the details that history often blurs: the bronze guns on the field, the black box that is also a coffin, the exact phrasing of a prophecy that predicted blood. Stay for the larger question that lingers long after the body is cut down: can power manage meaning when memory prefers to travel light and fast? If this story moves you, follow the show, share it with a friend who loves American history, and leave a review telling us what single moment changed your view.Support the showIf you'd like to buy one or more of our fully illustrated dime novel publications, you can click the link I've included.
The air is full of whispers, courtrooms grow silent, trial ledgers crackle with ink-stained confessions, and a voice named Eric Extreme steps into the ruins to listen. In this episode, we trace the shadowy currents that turned rumor into verdict, following the fragile threads of evidence buried in archives and the haunted hush that clings to old stones. We move from sermons and small-town grudges to the raw human stories behind every entry in the books: neighbors who accused neighbors, families torn apart, and lives erased by fear. This is not a catalog of spells but a concerning narrative that asks how belief and power braided together to make the unseen lethal. Join Eric on Paranormal Declassified: The Spirit Files. As history and haunting converge, and the past's softest murmurs become a warning for our present. Listen closely; the echoes demand we balance curiosity with compassion and evidence with empathy. A nearly identical transcript of this episode may be found at: https://www.mwvspirit.com/blog/2025/11/22/echoes-of-the-gallows-uncovering-the-witch-trials-true-legacy/ As a paranormal investigator, Eric Extreme has decades of experience. He explores the history of the paranormal from around the world. He also discusses the scientific study of perceived paranormal phenomena. His approach is to identify natural causes first before considering any paranormal explanations. With years of research and fieldwork behind him, he offers insights into how the world views the paranormal and how these phenomena can be studied objectively, based on evidence. The goal is to help listeners understand how to approach paranormal investigations focused on science, distinguishing between what can be explained and what cannot. Main idea: Humble faith quietly advances God's purposes, while proud ambition rushes toward its own downfall. 1. Humble faith quietly advances God's purposes (v.1-8) 2. Proud ambition rushes toward its own downfall (v.9-14) Discussion questions: 1. How does Esther's strategy demonstrate wisdom, patience, and shrewdness? How is this different from deceit? 2. How might approaching God with confidence change the way we pray or make difficult decisions? 3. In your own life, where do you see joy or satisfaction anchored in things other than God? How does this make you vulnerable to frustration or sin? 4. How does reflecting on Haman's folly encourage you to examine your own motives, ambitions, or sources of satisfaction?
Happy Noirvember! On the fifty- third episode of ATFT, the Director of Communications for the Film Noir Foundation, Anne Hockens, joins me in analyzing Billy Wilder's 1944 film noir classic, Double Indemnity! This episode is spoiler- filled. Double Indemnity, according to Anne's friend and the president of the Film Noir Foundation Eddie Muller, marked the beginning of the film noir movement. The film revolves around Walter Neff (Fred MacMurray), an insurance salesman, who one day meets Mrs. Phyllis Dietrichson (Barbara Stanwyck), the wife of a customer, in attempt to renew a policy. Their attraction is clear from the moment they first lay eyes on each other and grows stronger with each meeting. When Phyllis suggests she would like her husband dead, they plan “the perfect murder” with the intention of collecting as much money as possible through the "double indemnity" clause in Mr. Dietrichson's insurance policy, unbeknownst to him, but they have to get past Neff's intuitive and deeply analytical boss Barton Keyes (Edward G. Robinson) to pull it off. Double Indemnity is regarded by many still to this day as one of, if not the best film, within the noir genre. The Film Noir Foundation's 23rd annual Noir City Film Festival will take place in Oakland, California from January 16- 25. Over this week, 24 films will be screened but those titles won't be announced until the night of Noir Christmas which will take place in Oakland on December 17. Get your Noir Christmas tickets by clicking here! Individual tickets for the Noir City festival go on sale that night but you can get your Noir City pass by going to NoirCity.com. We talk extensively about the Film Noir Foundation towards the end of the episode so be sure to listen to the episode all the way through to learn more about all that's going on with the foundation from upcoming Noir City film festivals to their monthly magazine to their biweekly podcast Ask Eddie, with Anne and Eddie Muller, by going to their Facebook page, YouTube channel, and FilmNoirFoundation.org. In this episode, Anne and I talk about the techniques and noir tropes Double Indemnity introduces to the noir genre and cinema that continue to be utilized today, if Walter and Phyllis really loved each other, and why “tell” rather than “show” works to this film's advantage! Since this conversation marked the first time Anne and I have conversed, this episode does contain several tangents on topics such as other noir films, the danger of nitrate prints, and film sites Anne sees on a daily basis living in San Francisco. All this and more on the new episode of All the Film Things!Interested in listening to more film noir- focused episodes to celebrate Noirvember? Ramfest 2025 was everything we've been waiting for. From Bongloard's wild energy and Sunken State's chaos (gorilla suit included), to Jack Parow proving he absolutely belongs on a heavy lineup, this festival was a full-on celebration of South African alternative and heavy music. Not everything went smoothly, sound issues hit hard during Vulvodynia's set, but The Narrow and Facing the Gallows brought things right back, setting the stage for an unforgettable headliner: The Devil Wears Prada. For many of us, seeing them live in South Africa was a literal teenage-dream moment. This video's a recap of that entire experience, what worked, what didn't, and why events like Ramfest matter so much for our local scene. If you were there, drop a comment about your favorite set. And if you weren't… maybe this will convince you not to miss the next one.
Unique for many reasons, the book of Esther is a story of God's providential hand even in the shadows of life. In chapter 7 we start to see the way God has been working in the shadows to position everyone where He needed them to be. We see that God was prepared to act when the time was right.

Ah, the sound of hooves clopping across the rooftops and a smell of pumpkins and absinthe left out for Father Samhain can mean only one thing: it is truly the most woe-nderful time of the year! The Peggy Mount Calamity Hour's Halloween Special reaches once more into the casket for only the finest knitwear, slacks and bejewelled shawls, because here we dress for dinner... Our hosts begin by venturing - as is so oft the case – off down the old pub, where a Voice From The Gallows ensures the spirits they find aren't just restricted to Harry Hewart's decanter collection. Following these rather alarming events, a check-in at a luxury country spa retreat is called for, with the charming if rather eccentric regulars keeping the gin cooled down at The Ice House. How many eggs does someone have to smash before you realise that RightMove summary may not have been entirely transparent about the history of this house? How many phallic symbols have to be smeared on your bedroom window before you realise that TripAdvisor review may not have been entirely representative of this hotel? And how many times to we have to petition LWT for a Diamond Lady spin-off sitcom? Gently press the Play button with a croquet mallet and/or mell hammer, and find out… The Peggy Mount Calamity Hour is a free podcast from iPorle Media, which holds production copyright. The metalcore veterans talk about their first-ever Louder Than Life experience, dropping their long-awaited new album “Gallows” after seven years, and how fans are already singing the new tracks back at them on tour. From hilarious behind-the-scenes stories (including Bo's “shirtless contract”) to deep conversations about mental health in the rock community, this episode highlights why Blessthefall continues to connect with fans both old and new.And of course, in true Teaser Talk fashion, the band gives us a taste of what's next, including a 2026 Jakarta show with My Chemical Romance and the possibility of even more new music on the horizon. If you love Blessthefall, Louder Than Life Festival, Teaser Talk interviews, and metalcore storytelling, this episode is packed with humor, honesty, and exclusive teasers you won't want to miss.
Salem, Oregon has always been a city of secrets—but few run as deep as those hidden within the Delaney-Edwards House. Before this graceful landmark hosted seances and afternoon tea, it was the stage for greed, betrayal, and one of the most shocking crimes in Oregon's early history. When wealthy settler Daniel Delaney Sr. was gunned down just outside his front door in 1865, the investigation pulled back the curtain on a frontier community built on contradictions—prosperity and prejudice, freedom and bondage. The killing set off one of Salem's first sensational murder trials, culminating in Oregon's first double hanging. But behind the spectacle lay a deeper story—one that exposes the uneasy truths of race, power, and “justice” in a young state still defining its conscience. At its heart is Rachel Belden Brooks, the woman Delaney once enslaved and brought to Oregon in defiance of the territory's laws. Years later, she would take his estate to court, demanding wages for decades of unpaid labor and claiming her own measure of justice. And there was Jack DeWolf, the young Black boy whose brave eyewitness testimony helped bring two killers to the gallows—though the memory would haunt him, and the city itself, for life. From whispered fortunes and back-room confessions to the gallows built beneath Salem's oak trees, this story unearths the complicated legacy of a place where law and morality often diverged. If the walls of the Delaney-Edwards House could talk, they'd have plenty to say about gold, guilt, and ghosts—and the many lives intertwined within its walls that refused to be forgotten.GET TICKETS to Ghosts of the Grand! Even when His name is never mentioned, His hand is everywhere. In this message from the book of Esther, Pastor Ryan Johnson explores how God works through ordinary people and everyday circumstances to accomplish His extraordinary purposes. When life feels uncertain and God seems distant, Esther reminds us that His providence is never absent—just unseen.
From whispered charms and buried witch bottles to torture chambers and Salem's gallows, this episode of The Strange and Unusual Podcast traces the haunting story of the witch as healer, heretic, and scapegoat. I explore the folklore, the fear, and the witch hunts of Pendle, Würzburg, Bamberg, and Salem. Through historical accounts and chilling firsthand testimonies, in this episode I go into how ordinary people became legends, monsters, and martyrs, including my own ancestor, Elizabeth Howe. This week, blessthefall vocalist Beau Bokan sits in to discuss the story behind the 2025 single “mallxcore.” The song is an in-your-face return to form for the band after a lengthy hiatus, which they used to reignite their passion for writing, recording, and performing. With a knowing wink toward the metal elite, blessthefall proudly named the song what some may have hurled as an insult in the past. With the new album Gallows in hand, a rejuvenated love for performing, and a humble appreciation for the fans that have stood by them, Beau's authenticity and humor shine in this episode. A country music nightclub in Kentucky held dark secrets beneath its dance floor --- secrets that began with a brutal decapitation in 1896 and continued to manifest in violent supernatural encounters until the building's demolition in December 2024… but are the ghosts really gone?Join the DARKNESS SYNDICATE for the ad-free version: https://weirddarkness.com/syndicateTake the WEIRD DARKNESS LISTENER SURVEY and help mold the future of the podcast: https://weirddarkness.com/surveyIN THIS EPISODE: The building that stood at 44 Licking Pike in Wilder, Kentucky, witnessed more death and violence than most structures see in several lifetimes. From its origins as a slaughterhouse where animal blood drained into a deep well, through decades of mob violence and mysterious deaths, to its final incarnation as Bobby Mackey's Music World --- a honky-tonk where patrons reported being scratched, pushed, and attacked by unseen forces --- this location seemed to attract darkness like a magnet draws iron filings. The building's 45-and-a-half-year run as Bobby Mackey's came to an end on December 6, 2024, when demolition crews reduced the over-100-year-old structure to rubble. But that doesn't necessarily mean the hauntings themselves have ended.CHAPTERS & TIME STAMPS (All Times Approximate)…00:00:00.000 = Lead-In00:02:30.463 = Show Open00:03:38.578 = The Headless Woman and Bloody Beginnings00:17:03.072 = The Verdict, The Vow And a Gallows' Curse00:41:20.658 = Exorcism, Evidence, And The Final Haunting00:53:56.668 = Show Close SOURCES AND RESOURCES FROM THE EPISODE…https://weirddarkness.com/bobby-mackeys-pearl-bryan/=====(Over time links may become invalid, disappear, or have different content. Don and Tom dig into international investing — why diversification across borders is essential, why timing international markets is a mistake, and how currency fluctuations affect returns. They revisit Japan's lost decades, talk emerging markets, discuss John Bogle's arguments against international investing, and explain why owning all markets all the time makes the most sense. Listener questions cover tax perceptions about California, long-term return comparisons, 401(k) rollover and Rule of 55 withdrawals, and the realities of retiring abroad — including the sticker shock of Guatemala's healthcare spending. 0:04 Should you invest internationally now that foreign markets are rising? 1:29 Morningstar data shows non-U.S. markets doubling U.S. returns in 2025. 2:38 The dollar's weakness as a key factor in performance. 3:20 Mexico, Brazil, Japan, and China's strong year — but should you chase it? 4:02 Market leadership cycles: U.S. vs. international across decades. 4:50 The “1990 Japan” cautionary tale: why timing single markets can disappoint. 6:17 Concentration risk, emerging markets, and why you need global diversification. 7:33 Exposure to global companies you can't get by owning U.S.-only funds. 8:42 Dimensional's chart shows no country wins every year — own them all. 9:40 Addressing the John Bogle “you already own international through U.S. firms” argument. 10:21 Nestlé example: why local economy exposure matters. 12:45 Listener Greg challenges Don's California tax comment — clarification given. 13:45 State tax comparisons, why there's no perfect tax haven. 14:41 New York vs. California tax burdens — where it's worst. 15:30 Listener Tim asks about long-term return periods — Don points to IFA data. 17:40 1,700+ episodes milestone and show longevity banter. 18:30 Listener Jeff's complex retirement accounts and Rule of 55 rollover question. 19:09 Discussion of retiring abroad and health care concerns in Guatemala. 22:20 U.S. health care spending vs. Guatemala — a sobering gap. 23:39 Gallows humor about quick death and end-of-life planning. Read the original article (includes sources): https://weirddarkness.com/witch-trial-facts/From Salem's gallows where twenty innocent people swung in 1692, to modern Tanzania where elderly women are butchered with machetes for having red eyes, the pattern of witch hunts remains horrifyingly consistent: torture until confession, murder for being different, and children weaponized against their own families. What most people don't realize is that these brutal executions never stopped; they simply evolved, moved to new countries, and learned to hide behind the masks of religion, justice, and mob rule while continuing to claim thousands of lives every year.Join the DARKNESS SYNDICATE: https://weirddarkness.com/syndicateTake the WEIRD DARKNESS LISTENER SURVEY and help mold the future of the podcast: https://weirddarkness.com/surveyIN THIS EPISODE: Between the 15th and 18th centuries, approximately 50,000 people died accused of witchcraft across Europe and America, their bodies hanged, burned, crushed, and torn apart in ways that reveal more about human cruelty than supernatural evil. The most disturbing truth isn't in the historical record though; it's that right now, somewhere in the world, someone is pouring acid down a child's throat, setting a woman on fire, or hacking an elderly person to death for the same imaginary crime.CHAPTERS & TIME STAMPS (All Times Approximate)…00:00:00.000 = Lead-In00:02:21.296 = Show Open00:03:46.926 = Ropes, Stones, and Chains: How Salem Killed Its Innocent00:12:26.103 = The Werewolf Panic: Europe's Other Supernatural Trials00:23:52.912 = Children, Coins, and Continuing Horror: The Witch Hunt That Never Ended00:29:34.556 = Show Close=====(Over time links may become invalid, disappear, or have different content. Part 2 of 2!Drop right into this really lovely chat with Michael and Pip, who previously chatted in podcast form all them years back in 2016! Verging on a decade. Time marches on doesn't it. It's lovely to hear from Michael this time around with so much passed, but it isn't just re-call from that time, and catching up on those years. It's a typically wide-ranging conversation spread over two parts, bringing in so much of the acting world but also the various bits and pieces that inform the acting world and work within it. In the mix you can hear about such items as the good old self tape versus in-the-room debate, giving and receiving advice, the opposing and contradictory ends of the spiritual spectrum, trust, workshopping, Shane Meadows and some real nice wrestling analogies.
