Send us a text if you want to be on the Podcast & explain why!Discover the untapped potential of nutrition coaching as we decode the Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) equation – your key to unlocking at least $30,000 in additional annual revenue while dramatically improving client outcomes. Most trainers make a critical mistake by bundling nutrition guidance with their training packages, effectively leaving thousands of dollars on the table each year. By understanding the science behind TDEE – from Basal Metabolic Rate to the surprisingly significant impact of Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis – you'll gain the confidence to position yourself as a nutrition expert worthy of premium rates. The podcast reveals why most calorie calculators fail your clients and how to create realistic, personalized recommendations that account for both physiological needs and psychological realities. You'll learn why protein has nearly six times the thermic effect of fat, how to calculate appropriate caloric deficits that clients can actually sustain, and why partnering with a Registered Dietitian can elevate your practice to extraordinary levels.Beyond the science, we dive deep into the business strategies that separate struggling trainers from those earning six figures. From structuring separate nutrition assessments to setting appropriate pricing ($300 is suggested), you'll discover how to communicate your value and create a nutrition coaching service that clients gladly pay for. We even discuss creative ways to have your clients sponsor your nutrition certification, turning education expenses into marketing opportunities.Whether you're looking to add nutrition coaching to your existing practice or take your current nutrition services to new heights, this episode provides the blueprint for creating sustainable results for your clients while adding a substantial second income stream to your business. Huge thank you to our shows sponsor:DrinkLMNT.com/fitcareGet a free sample pack with any order!Book disucssed on the episode - blueprint for revolution:https://amzn.to/4hXoYvAFueled by the unnecessary loss of my father to medical mismanagement as well as a failed surgery that led to permanent loss of function in my shoulder, I started The HoneyBadger Project with the goal of creating a community of clinicians that were hell bent on driving change. But let me back up and give you the full origin story….I'm a clinician first. At the peak of my credentialing, I was PT, DPT, OCS, SCS, CSCS, Pn1, TPI-1, PES (and a handful more that I now know are BS lol).In 2015 I started a clinic inside a storage closet of a warehouse gym and grew it to 5 locations. I sold that practice in 2019 and started dreaming about how to inspire innovation in the “service” side of healthcare (aka the allied health professions beyond PT including DCs, OTs, SLPs, & mental health professionals).I began heavily investing in business education and mentorship and became obsessed with studying how Silicon Valley incubators, like Y Combinator, consistently produced businesses that changed the world (like AirBnB, DoorDash, Instacart, etc).I couldn't find anything in healthcare like that so I decided to build it myself.5 years later, my team and I have helped over 1000 clinicians reimagine the way they practice by starting mission-driven practices that incorporate easy to use technology. I also continue to own and grow multiple patient facing businesses.I'm on a mission to evolve healthcare. I hope you'll join me.

Joined by other Physio Room doctors, Dr. Tim Tracy PT, DPT, and OCS, and Dr. James Stetson DC, Pn1, CF-L1, and SFDN-1, Dr. Ally and host Dr. Andrew discuss all things ACL reconstruction.   If you're into fitness, chances are you've torn your ACL. When in that position, it's essential to consider your recovery and reconstruction. Although it may be tempting to rush back into training or your favorite sport, you need to put in the PT work and strength building to get back to where you were. ACL healing is not about rushing your timeline but giving yourself whatever you need to get back into shape.   If you tear your ACL, you'll want to know the best recovery practices. Learn more about the guests' ACL experiences, the rehab process, and what to do when discharged from physical therapy.   Quotes • “The high-level patients want to get back to their prior level of function, so the patellar graft is shown to be a favorite in that regard.” (12:06-12:16 | Dr. Tim) • “If I have a young athlete that comes to me, I'm going to recommend surgery because they'll want to get back to their sport.” (14:12-14:23 | Dr. Ally) • “The patient and their mindset going into recovery is huge into how fast they come back, and how successfully they come back.” (25:03-25:12 | Dr. James)  • “What you're going to need is the guidance at month six and month nine. And that's what we want to help you out with, and that's the biggest deficit.” (37:12-37:20 | Dr. Tim) • “Objective testing is going to be objective testing. My name is Abby and I am a physical therapy student at the University of Pittsburgh. I am currently finishing up my last partially didactic semester and then will be in the clinic for 30 weeks in August followed by graduation. I have a background in rugby and bodybuilding myself as well as experience in fitness coaching for a wide variety of populations including runners, college athletes, athletes with disability, and people just trying to lose weight, gain muscle, or generally be healthier. I have my CPT from NASM as well as my CSCS and Pn1 certifications. In addition to my hands-on experience, I've collaborated on research in concussion and running through the University of Pittsburgh Concussion Research Lab and UPMC respectively. Outside of fitness and PT I am a massive nerd and love Star Wars, anime, and cosplay. Topics Covered: - Exploitative nature of clinical rotations and general PT school insensitivities regarding the financial burden of grad school - Paying full tuition to work 40+ hours/week for free, students sure of a setting they want to work in being forced to complete their rotation in settings they have no interest in, having to attend in-person class for lectures requiring no hands-on learning (It feels ridiculous to spend an hour of my day driving to class, pay for gas and parking, just to sit in an hour long lecture that could have been held on Zoom. Many PT students also have to work on top of school and I hate the "PT school is your job attitude" - Disconnect between PT and S&C and fitness as a whole - How much of a difference are we really making? Especially with the pressure to see as many patients as possible at many outpatient clinics on top of completing documentations - how often are PTs actually able to dig deep at psychosocial issues and other issues that may affect a patient's rehab and overall health. - Professionalism and being shoved into a box, having other interests or "unprofessional" content associated with a clincian on the internt does not mean they know less or are unable to be professional in the workplace. I think many patients almost have better connections with less "professional"clinicians because they see them as another person here to help them as opposed to a white coat talking down on them.

Behave Yourself Podcast
100. Ethics for behaviour analysts... who work OUTSIDE the field of autism

Behave Yourself Podcast

Play Episode Play 30 sec Highlight Listen Later Jun 21, 2022 50:40

In this episode, we talked about ethics in behaviour analysis and applying our code of ethics to fields outside of autism and learning disabilities.Emily and I have chosen to apply our certification in behaviour analysis (as awarded by the BACB) to health and fitness. The certification isn't specific to any one application, it's not an ‘autism certification' so this is entirely allowed as long as it's within your scope of practice. Scope of practice may mean you have addition qualifications or experience in that area. In our cases, Emily is a qualified PT with experience working as a PT. I'm PN1 certified and have experience working with adults on their health and nutrition goals. When you certify through the BACB, you sign a contract stating that you will comply with their code of ethics. Why are we doing this podcast? Well… increasing numbers of behaviour analysts are branching out into the field of health and fitness and the rigour with which the code of ethics is being adhered to is getting sloppy, in my opinion. Now… If someone is a behaviour analyst from Monday to Wednesday and a health coach from Thursday to Saturday and they don't advertise their health services as being behaviour analytic in nature or display their BACB credentials, then it's fair game. But that's not what's happening.Being a BCBA AND a health/fitness coach is what, in theory, makes us better than any other health and fitness professionals. So we need to actually be better.BACB have an ethics department with a lawyer on staff. They're not playing. For non-behaviour analysts, but maybe you're interested in our profession or in working with a behaviour analyst - I'd recommend you go and look at the BACB's code of ethics. IMO, it's a thing of beauty. It's not perfect, but it does a good job. It's 19 pages of in-depth ethical considerations.Big problems that I see:1. Client confidentiality - 2.03 Protecting Confidential Information AND 2.04 Disclosing Confidential Information - AND 5.02 Confidentiality in Public Statements (see 2.03, 2.04, 3.10)2. Advertising and sharing client testimonials - 5.07 Soliciting Testimonials from Current Clients for Advertising (see 1.11, 1.13, 2.11, 3.01, 3.10) and 5.08 Using Testimonials from Former Clients for Advertising (see 2.03, 2.04, 2.11, 3.01, 3.10) -3. 5.10 Social Media Channels and Websites (see 1.02, 2.03, 2.04, 2.11, 3.01, 3.10)Informed Consent - What even is it?4. Non-behaviour analytic services - 5.06 Advertising Nonbehavioral Services (see 1.01, 1.02, 2.01)7. Reporting unethical behaviour is wildly aversive8. Why has this annoyed me so much?9. In this episode, we're talking about boundaries! Why they're important, how to start setting them, and reflections on how we love (or don't love) ourselves. We kick off this 2-part series featuring my mentor, Lisa Carpenter, with a much needed discussion on why it's so important for us to learn how to set boundaries and honor our relationship with ourselves.  Lisa and I talked about what boundaries are, and she also shared her own personal experiences to paint a picture of what it looks like when we start setting boundaries in our everyday relationships. One of the main things I took away from this conversation is that setting boundaries is a reflection of how we love ourselves. Yes, setting boundaries is an act of self-care and self-love. Lisa shared how when we don't love and respect ourselves enough, boundaries often feel like an impossible task. So, if self-love is in your priority list this 2022, then make sure to tune in to this episode! I promise, you won't regret it. Hack My Age
Badass & Fast After 50, Maintaining Energy, Fitness and Body Composition through menopause - Selene Yeager

Hack My Age

My guest today will not only inspire you herself, but she has a whole tribe behind her of inspirational older women who are smashing it through menopause and beyond. I am talking about Selene Yeager. She is leading the way for so many of us women who are older and active. Many of her followers are over 50 and 60 and are still professional athletes hitting records, climbing mountains and winning races, outright, over the guys. I first found Selene through the Feisty Menopause Summit through Dr. Stacy Sims. This summit which gathered incredible speakers on all the topics women going through menopause want to hear sent me one clear message. Menopause is a time to speed up, not slow down. It showed me an army of women who won't sit on the sidelines just because society has told them “game over”. They want to keep in ring smashing their goals and making even bigger dreams after 50. How can we still keep up, stay feisty and be active despite the trials and tribulations of menopause…IF, that's a word that's even in your vocabulary. Because, frankly speaking, there are plenty of women who are bypassing this completely too. So, Selene is not only the content creator of the Feisty Menopause group, but she is the host of one of my absolute favorite podcasts – Hit Play, Not Pause. When we hit menopause, life is really just beginning in many aspects and the way that population aging is going, you've got another good 30 – 40 years ahead of you. Why would you want to slow down now? But Selene is so much more than all of this. She is a top-selling professional health and fitness writer who is practicing what she preaches. She co-authored the amazing book ROAR with Dr. Stacy Sims and we are now all waiting for their new book to come out.. It's called Next Level : Your Guide To Kicking Ass, Feeling Great and Crushing Goals Through Menopause And Beyond. Selene is also an NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) certified personal trainer, USA Cycling licensed coach, Pn1 certified nutrition coach, pro licensed off road racer, and former All-American Ironman triathlete. Need…I…say….more? She's badass AND she's over 50 AND she tells us how she does it.
