As mediators, Amanda and Alex know that there are two sides to every story, and that is why they are delighted to chat with Ginger Gentile this week!Ginger is a documentary filmmaker who experienced the difficulties of the family court system first hand. Her documentary, Erasing Family, sheds a light on Parental Alienation, often used a means of abuse in our courts, and shows the other side of the court battle: the side where the kids lose out. The film, however, is one of hope, where children are reunited with their erased parents and relationships are rebuilt after years, and sometimes decades, apart.Disclaimer: The views and opinions expressed by our podcast guest are their own and do not necessarily reflect the views of the hosts or the podcast. Ginger came back to the U.S. and found that a lot of mothers couldn't see their kids and that's it's more about money. The kids themselves, as young as seven were on social media talking about how they couldn't see a parent or a sibling. This is when Ginger made the film, "Erasing Families." It is a powerful film that does show happy endings. Since "Erasing Family," came out in 2020 (can be found free on YouTube). Parents started contacting Ginger asking for help. Ginger began transitioning out of filming and has trained with Bill Eddy at the High Conflict Institute and is working with the worse cases of divorce and Parental Alienation. Ginger has dealt with and is helping parents who are suffering through high conflict divorce, trauma and Parental Alienation. Ginger explains her how her coaching is helping others and offers the advice that it's never too early to get help and changing the communication style with the co-parent is helpful. We then dive deep into her two documentaries; "Erasing Family", which follows young adults fighting to reunite with their broken families, and reveals through the eyes of 23-year-old Ashlynn, 12-year-old Lauren and 28-year-old Brian, the consequences on mental health caused by profiteering high-conflict divorce court settlements. In this episode, we discuss: Erasing Dad & Erasing Family Documentaries Don't give up Reversing parental alienation Thinking more positively Unconditional love Nacho Kids Academy Nacho Parenting Success Story: "I'm only writing this because I can't believe it and want to tell others what this Nacho Parenting did to our family. My wife signed up for the Academy one night when she was crying in bed and feeling hopeless. I knew nothing about it but thought it sounded stupid. The next night she came to me and said she finally had hope! Over the next 3 months, our lives changed tremendously! We had a few hiccups along the way, so she reached out on the Q & A calls and community and got help directly from the creators of the method. Things are so much better now! She no longer cries at night or walks around with a distraught look. The cloud over our house is gone. Everyone is so much better! I no longer think it's stupid. Thank you both for helping us!” T.P.
This week on The Divorce & Beyond podcast, Susan Guthrie, Esq, welcomes back Ginger Gentile as she shares her tried and true tips for alienated and estranged parents. Parental alienation is a silent epidemic affecting families all over the United States (and beyond). Whatever term you choose to use to describe it - parental alienation, estrangement, or parental interference - emotions of alienated and estranged parents are fraught with fear. Often, the experience can be isolating. Parents feel as though there is no recovery, no coming back from this, or they simply don't know what to do. In this episode, Ginger Gentile joins Susan to help parents work to reunite with their children after divorce or separation. Together they discuss specific ways to manage emotions and behaviors that will eventually create lasting change and work to heal alienated parents' relationships with their children. Topics and Golden Nuggets include Communication is at the core of how you start reversing parental alienation. The importance of emotionally detaching and establishing a brief, informative, friendly, but firm communication with the co-parent Why earlier intervention can lead to better outcomes Focus on your behavior changes and yourself instead of your children's or ex's behavior “Changes must come from within. It takes time and work.” **************************************** About this week's special guest: Ginger Gentile Ginger Gentile is on a mission to save children from the trauma of high-conflict divorce. Erasing Family. In this age of cancellation, it's not so rare. In the divorce and child custody (family court) world, cancellation has been a “thing” for a long time. Cancellation of the child's other parent and even extended family is common. In this episode, Bill and Megan are joined by Ginger Gentile, director of the Erasing Family documentary. Erasing Family follows young adults fighting to reunite with their broken families. Part emotional roller coaster, part investigative exposé, the film “follows the money” to expose why loving moms and dads are erased from their kid's lives by divorce. Bill and Megan will talk with Ginger about the documentary and discuss: why kids are often unaware they are alienated from a parent what should a parent say and do when their child says they never want to see them again what to do when a child refuses all contact with a parent, if anything top mistakes a parent makes when reuniting with a parent how long it can take to reunite - whether it's a process or can it be resolved in a day the patterns that all families who reunite follow biggest changes in alienation in the last decade self-care in alienation listener questions focused on: getting through to the other parent just how damaging their behavior is on the kids; and protecting them from other parents behavior without also engaging in alienation how to handle other family members who have been pulled into the conflict Links & Other Notes GINGER GENTILE'S WEBSITE & DOCUMENTARYErasingFamily.Org BOOKS Don't Alienate the Kids BIFF for Communication: Your Guide to Difficult Texts, Emails and Social Media Posts PROGRAMS/COURSESNew Ways for Families for Parents & Children Our website at High Conflict Institute: https://www.highconflictinstitute.com/Submit a Question for Bill and MeganAll of our books can be found in our online store or anywhere books are sold, including as e-books.You can also find these show notes at our site as well.Note: We are not diagnosing anyone in our discussions, merely discussing patterns of behavior. Leveraging Blockchain Technology to Reunite Families Impacted by Failures in Local Judicial Court Systems, with Kristine Smith Kristine A. Smith is a Star Producer and Ambassador for the Erasing Family Documentary, (www.erasingfamily.org) a free non-profit feature-length film about family court induced trauma and real-life reunifications , the film is endorsed by the American Psychological Association. This film is designed to help erased kids open up to reuniting with their parents. Kristine Smith has been written about in Jamil Hasan's book Block Chain Ethics, in Chapter 4 "Cracking the Glass Ceiling". Jamil writes of Krissy's sudden status as a newly minted “bitcoin” millionaire in 2017 and her struggles as a “non-custodial” parent and her ongoing custody battle in Chester County Pennsylvania “Family” Court. Jamil details the story of how Krissy made money on cryptocurrency to donate to Ginger Gentile the Director of the Erasing Family social impact documentary, in order to make it free and available to educate the masses (including divorce attorneys!!) on the mental health crisis caused by “Family” Court.. Krissy Smith has been a proud and loud voice for the #PsychiatricSurvivor and the #FreeBritney movements. In the state of Pennsylvania, Krissy is an advocate for 50-50 Shared Parenting. She believes that anything less than that will perpetuate the mental health crisis underlying many suicides, homicides, and mass shootings in our society. Smith doesn't want others to suffer the same fate she has, missing out on the holidays with her offspring. To achieve that goal, she has been rallying support for HB 1397, a proposed Parenting Time bill in Pennsylvania. This bill promotes gender equality in custody determinations and aims to protect the right of children to continue to have both parents meaningfully involved in their lives following a separation or divorce. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/crypto-hipster-podcast/support

Alienation is a form of child abuse wherein on parent manipulates a child in order to damage that child's feelings for their other parent and can cause irreperable harm to that child. However, it remains an intractible problem for alienated parents to repair and that courts are ill-equipped to deal with. Ginger's latest film, Erasing Family, is a look within the dynamics of alienation through the eyes of the children involved and their parents, step-parents and siblings. Notably, there is hope there too as some of the children have re-established relationships with their alienated parent after years of separation. Parental alienation affects more than 22,000 families in the U.S. alone. If you or someone you know is experiencing this tragic loss, please listen to this episode. Ginger shares some helpful insights and tips for managing the unmanageable! For another episode on the topic of alienation please listen to: Parental Alienation Solutions that WORK! with Special Guest, Dorcy Pruter More About Ginger Gentile: Ginger Gentile is on a mission to save children from the trauma of high-conflict divorce.
Moms Moving On: Navigating Divorce, Single Motherhood & Co-Parenting.
Just a quick note before we get into today's episode. The topic of parental alienation has been a bit of a controversial one in the world of divorce and co-parenting. It's important to remember that the views, ideas, beliefs, and opinions expressed in this episode are those of the guest, and not necessarily shared by the Moms Moving On team. That said, both mothers and fathers alike have found themselves on the receiving end of hurtful comments made by the other parent to the children. Children almost never escape the wrath of a high-conflict co-parent, and in some extreme cases, this type of behavior can result in full alienation of the other parent. That's where our guest, Ginger Gentile, comes in. Ginger Gentile is an activist documentary filmmaker dedicated to addressing ignored issues and shedding light on solutions. Her film, Erasing Family, talks about the harsh realities of parental alienation which premiered at Lincoln Center in 2019 and showcased the trauma children face in high-conflict custody battles. Ginger passionately advocates for those who don't have a voice. You can learn more about Ginger, here. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This week I get to share my interview with activist documentary filmmaker, Ginger Gentile. Ginger is the filmmaker of a movie I think is super important for everyone to see, called Erasing Family. Erasing Family is a film about parental alienation, but it's also an exposé of the family court system and gives really important information about why we need to stay as far away from court as possible during divorce. Many people ask, "What's the first thing I should do when I decide to divorce?" And my answer is always, "Educate yourself." Ginger’s film is a great way to begin to do that. Show Highlights The inspiration for Ginger’s documentary, Erasing Family. (2:59) Some of the characteristics of parental alienation: such as love is not unconditional, instead, it’s conditional and it is not a gender issue. (10:06) The damaging messages children receive from parental alienation. (15:39) Why family court is NOT the proper venue to decide custody. (30:35) The importance of shared parenting. After divorce. Parental attitudes about custody are harming kids. There's a common-sense solution that two states have enacted, but other states won't do it. It's helping children, so why are lawyers opposing it?

One of the unfortunate and not uncommon outcomes of divorce involving children is parental alienation. Alienation is even more likely to occur in cases that involve litigation. Because parental alienation can appear to be the norm, divorcing couples may expect that whoever ‘loses' in the child custody proceedings will become an absentee parent. In fact, about 22 million parents in the U.S. alone don't remain in the lives of their children post-divorce. And it's not just dads that are affected; mothers suffer from alienation as well, resulting in severed family ties and relationships. In this episode of Divorce, Healthy! attorney and author Ashley-Nicole Russell, of https://anrlaw.com/ (ANR Law), talks with http://www.gingergentile.com/ (Ginger Gentile), director of the documentary film http://erasingfamily.org/ (Erasing Family), about the trauma that children suffer when they don't see a parent after a divorce. Ginger reveals what most parents aren't aware of: that children are conflict-averse, and being forced through family court proceedings can be devastating for them. Even if you are forced into litigation, you are in control of how you choose to act and react, so you can still be an effective parent and role model to your child despite the circumstances. Kids are always watching, so it's crucial that you model healthy and effective conflict resolution strategies. Ginger also discusses the importance of choosing your actions and framing divorce as a positive movement. Even if you end up feeling like the rejected parent, always show your children that you love them and put that relationship first. Children are often unwillingly thrust into these situations, so it's essential to put in the effort to avoid conflict. Remember, you are not a victim in this situation, and you always have a say in what you want to do and the outcome you want to achieve. Ginger recommends looking for a support group, a safe space to vent your emotions outside of the prying eyes of the public and your children. There are numerous resources and allies available to help you reach your goal– a healthy, loving relationship with your children despite your divorce. On this Like a Mother episode I interview film maker Ginger Gentile, whose latest project is called Erasing Family, a documentary about parental alienation, focused on the now-adult children who grew up without knowing a parent, siblings, or extended family thanks to the wishes of another parent, and likely the motions of a court system. Parental alienation affects millions of families, with one third of children whose parents divorce or separate losing all contact with one parent. But parental alienation goes beyond missing out on a relationship with one parent. Parental alienation means lost relationships with siblings, extended family and friends. The reasons for this human rights travesty are complex, and unfair court systems, unstable, angry parents can be blamed. But to stem parental alienation requires a drastic paradigm shift in this country, one that stops celebrating mothers as the default better parent, a stopping of upholding stay-at-home mothers as superior to working mothers, and gets away from outdated and sexist assumptions that in times of separation, it is best for kids to have one primary home (with the mom), and occasional visit the other parent (the dad, who pays the mom). On all fronts, science has time and again obliterated these notions: Children benefit from bonding with fathers just as much as mothers. Stay at home mothers are bad for kids, moms, marriage, the pay gap and economy. Working moms are good for mothers' physical and mental wellbeing, marriage, and children. Non-custodial parents, who are relegated to "visits" with their children by courts, in 40 percent of cases lose contact with their kids. Father absence is associated with a long list of emotional and psychological affects on children. Shared parenting, in which children spend at least 40 percent of the time with each parent, is ideal, according to 50 peer reviewed research papers. Whether you like it or not, shared parenting, which receives a 70 percent public popularity rating, split equally among men and women, conservatives and progressives, democrats and republics, is quickly being adopted by courts. Since 2012, South Dakota, Arizona, Utah, Missouri and Kentucky have passed shared-parenting laws, that start custody negotiations with the presumption of equal time, and this year, 25 are considering bills that would do the same. In other words: The world is changing, and if you're not on board with shared parenting, and recognizing the systematic atrocity that is parental alienation, time to get over it. Because faced with it in your own life, you are likely to lose in the face of a court, and if not, but judging society. Ginger Gentile produced and directed Erasing Dad, a similar project in Argentina, and herself is the victim of parental alienation at the hands of her parents' divorce. You can learn more about Erasing Family here, and support this important projecT I connected with Ginger through our mutual colleague Terry Brennan, the advocate from Leading Women for Shared Parenting, for whom you can thank for all that incredible legislation taking place around the country. If you are in New York City, on Wednesday, June 7, I am speaking at Erasing Family's fundraiser event, where you can learn more about the issue and meet Ginger (and me!):
