In this Season 19 finale of the Troutbitten Podcast, we tackle a grab bag of topics. We call these episodes the Freewheelin' Troutbitten. This one was unintentional. We had plans to cover a topic of fishing with friends vs fishing solo, but once we opened up some of the leftover topics surrounding the Grievances episode from last week, we just kinda got things rolling and let it go. The last half hour is dedicated to our most important conservation message -- stop stocking over wild trout. My friends Bill Dell, Dr. Trevor Smith, Matt Grobe and Austin Dando join me for a fun conversation. VisitTroutbitten WebsiteTroutbitten InstagramTroutbitten YouTubeTroutbitten FacebookThanks to TroutRoutes:Use the code TROUTBITTEN for 20% off your membership athttps://maps.troutroutes.com Thanks to SkwalaUse the code, TROUTBITTEN10 for 10% off your order athttps://skwalafishing.com/Thanks to TroutRoutes:Use the code TROUTBITTEN for 20% off your membership athttps://maps.troutroutes.com Thanks to SkwalaUse the code, TROUTBITTEN10 for 10% off your order athttps://skwalafishing.com/

We're here for our fifth annual Airing of Grievances episode. We do this every June, at the end of the spring seasons of the podcast. We do it to have some fun, and we do it because it's helpful to call out the bad things and try to make them better. We also do this because Frank Costanza from Seinfeld once said . . . “I gotta lotta problems with you people, and now . . . you're gonna here about it.”So we're here to complain about things, to clear the air and to get things off our chests about the fly fishing industry. And that means just about everyone involved, from the big fly fishing companies and brands, to the start ups. From the fly shops to the guides that work for them. From the independent, part-time guide, to the die-hard angler, to the weekend warrior and to the fisherman who has become fly-fishing-curious in the last few months. Everyone. No exceptions. And that starts with our own self-grievances.After a few years of doing this and getting so many replies from other anglers with their own gripes, we decided to open up the grievances episode to YOU, the listeners. We did that for the first time last year, and this year we have more submissions than ever. So we've compiled a list of the most common grievances with the fly fishing industry. And no one is safe.Joining me are Austin Dando, Bill Dell, Trevor Smith and Matt Grobe.ResourcesPODCAST: Troutbitten | The Airing of Grievances -- OnePODCAST: Troutbitten | The Airing of Grievances -- TwoPODCAST: Troutbitten | The Airing of Grievances -- ThreePODCAST: Troutbitten | The Airing of Grievances -- FourVisitTroutbitten WebsiteTroutbitten InstagramTroutbitten YouTubeTroutbitten FacebookThanks to TroutRoutes:Use the code TROUTBITTEN for 20% off your membership athttps://maps.troutroutes.com Thanks to SkwalaUse the code, TROUTBITTEN10 for 10% off your order athttps://skwalafishing.com/Thanks to TroutRoutes:Use the code TROUTBITTEN for 20% off your membership athttps://maps.troutroutes.com Thanks to SkwalaUse the code, TROUTBITTEN10 for 10% off your order athttps://skwalafishing.com/

The Part of the Declaration of Independence Nobody Reads (Grievances Against King George) Is the Part That Actually Mattered

History Unplugged Podcast

On July 9, 1776, a group of American soldiers listened to the Declaration of Independence read aloud in New York City, then rushed down Broadway and spent several minutes prying a two-ton golden equestrian statue of King George III off its pedestal on Bowling Green. They hacked off the head, sent the body to a Connecticut foundry, and melted it into exactly 42,088 bullets, a number chosen deliberately to evoke the British revolutions of 1642 and 1688. On the road to the foundry, loyalist neighbors in Wilton crept out at night and stole pieces of the statue, burying them in their yards as a quiet counter-protest. Those fragments stayed hidden for centuries until treasure hunters with metal detectors dug them up. Today's guest is Robert G. Parkinson, author of Tyrants and Rogues: Understanding the Declaration of Independence. We look at the 27 grievances that make up the body of the Declaration, the section that Jefferson, Congress, and the British government all considered the essential part of the document but that modern Americans almost never read. We discuss how the very first grievance is secretly about the king vetoing Virginia's attempt to curtail the slave trade, and that the patriots saw themselves not as radical innovators but as the heirs of 1688, conducting the third British revolution in 135 years, and that the Declaration was written not in a moment of triumph but during nine weeks of almost unbelievable catastrophe.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

From nesting success rates to the spread of domestic genetics across North America, it's one of the most thought-provoking conversations the podcast has had in a while.   The guys also tackle another submission to the Flyways Department of Grievances, featuring one of the most painful public land hunting stories imaginable. If you've ever had someone set up way too close, invite themselves into your hunt, or completely destroy a morning in the marsh, this one is for you.   To wrap things up, the crew battles through another rough round of Say What?, covering everything from the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and avian botulism to teal nesting habits, swan calls, and waterfowl history.   Topics Covered: Summer plans and UFC talk Domestic mallards and game farm ducks Waterfowl nesting success rates The spread of domestic duck genetics Giant Canada geese and changing populations Public land hunting etiquette Flyways Department of Grievances Migratory Bird Treaty Act history Avian botulism and waterfowl trivia Another chaotic round of Say What?   Thanks for listening to the Midwest Flyways Podcast and be sure to subscribe and review!   Join Flyways Hunt Club and get 1 month free! Sunday Night Potluck – In this unscripted livestream, I wrestle honestly with one of Jesus' most challenging commands: “Turn the other cheek” (Matthew 5 : 38-48). I explore the Old Testament background of “eye for an eye,” the surrounding context and how the early church understood this passage. I also confront the struggle to contextualize this verse in the modern context. How do we resist outrage culture and engage in the radical patience and forbearance that Jesus requires us to practice, even toward our enemies? In the final 30 minutes, I share my decades-long struggle to apply Matthew 5 to my own life.

"He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us." Of course, Loyalists remained under the King's protection during the war, contrary to Grievance #23 of the Declaration of Independence. Topics include the following: -a description of the different Loyalists or Tories throughout the Colonies, including the rich and poor, black and white, Native and European, male and female -the origins of the Sons of Liberty in 1765 as a result of the Stamp Act -the development of the rift between Patriots and Loyalists -misconceptions about these categories, namely that many Sons of Liberty became Loyalists, such as Joseph Allicocke and James de Lancey -an overview of the political and legislative system of New York City and the ways in which the Stamp Act and the Quartering Act affected New Yorkers' perceptions of Parliament, the King, and their own political leaders -Alexander McDougall's opposition to de Lancey's support of the Quartering Act, and his authorship of his pamphlet To the Betrayed Inhabitants of New York -Edmund Burke's advocacy for the redress of legitimate Colonial grievances in Parliament -the growing strife between Patriots and Loyalists in Manhattan and the flight of Loyalist New Yorkers to New Jersey -the return of Loyalists to New York after the Battle of Long Island and the British capture of the city at the end of 1776 -an explanation of the oaths of allegiance to the King administered in occupied New York -the flight of Loyalists from New York City after the end of the war -the fate of Loyalists who chose to stay in the new United States after the war Dr. Minty's book can be found here: [Unfriendly to Liberty: Loyalist Networks and the Coming of the American Revolution in New York City](https://www.cornellpress.cornell.edu/book/9781501769108/unfriendly-to-liberty/#bookTabs=1)

Racial grievance politics: how did we become so divided?

Vickrum Digwa, the killer of Henry Nowak, was convicted of murder last month. This week, the police released bodycam footage showing how Nowak was handcuffed and assumed to be the offender in a racist attack, even though he was dying from stab wounds. The fallout has been public and political outrage, and has spotlighted the way the police (and many other institutions) have formal policy to treat people differently based on their ethnicity. In that context, this debate, recorded at the Battle of Ideas festival 2025, seems very topical on how we got to this state of affairs. ORIGINAL FESTIVAL INTRODUCTION Over recent months, there has been a loud and vociferous debate raging in the UK about the merits or otherwise of multicultural policies. In the past,  Martin Luther King's dictum of ‘colour-blindness' was embraced by all sides politically and aspired to a multi-ethnic society that saw skin colour and ethnicity as secondary factors to unity and cohesion. More recently, institutionalised and ubiquitous state multiculturalism has instead encouraged British citizens to view each other through the prism of ethnic, religious and cultural difference. Combined with a more contemporary embrace of identity politics and critical race theory, which regards white people as inherently privileged, multiculturalism has been accused of dangerously stoking up fragmentation and division. But there are shifts that imply identity politics is now being embraced across the political spectrum. The political right, in particular, reacted against the race- and identity-based grievances associated with the Black Lives Matter movement's rise after the death of George Floyd. It rejected ‘two-tierism', justified by DEI, whether in the criminal-justice system or in hiring practices. However, more recently, increasing sections of the right have begun to embrace similar thinking, only in reverse. A newly emerging white-identitarian sentiment now frequently suggests white victimhood must be addressed by policies, arguing white people are becoming an oppressed class, while minorities are presented as a protected elite. Although the term itself is contested, critics of this emergent ‘woke right' argue it has much in common with its counterpart on the left: race essentialism and identity-based grievance. They point out that while past waves of immigration were always a source of some racial tensions; crucially, movements were created that transcended difference and encouraged mass political struggles for equality and against discrimination. Yet the slogan ‘black and white, unite and fight' – which focused on commonality of values, hopes and aspirations – seems out of sync with today's identitarian discourse espoused by both left and right. Is white identitarianism an understandable reaction to left-wing wokeism? Is it possible to go beyond mutually suspicious ethno-religious blocs, each armed with competing grievances and claims to victimhood? Is a framework of common values and beliefs – that enables us to treat all people equally, regardless of ethnicity – possible today? The TRUTH is that God's Peace and Joy are mine. When we defend "against this truth" we can identify with the body's pain and suffering and make up a "sickness." "Sickness" does not just "happen to us" without our "thoughts" that brought on these conditions. Sickness is a "defense" against the truth of God's Peace and Joy. When we hold Grievances, Attack Thoughts, Judgments, and Personal Lies, they gather forces to make us sick (pain and suffering in the body that started in the mind). These prayers are essential to correcting this dilemma: Sickness is a defense against the truth. I will accept the truth of what I am, and let my mind be wholly healed today. and...I have forgotten what I really am, for I mistook my body for myself. Sickness is a defense against the truth. But I am not a body. And my mind cannot attack. So I can not be sick."

Topics include the following: -the shared British and American tradition of opposing standing armies--because if they are not disbanded after wars, they are used by tyrants to take away the rights of the people -the perception of American colonists that the King had stationed 10,000 soldiers in North America in 1763 precisely so he could enforce his tyrannical policies on them -the various functions of Colonial militias in the 17th and 18th centuries, including war-fighting, civil policing, and preventing slave uprisings -the strained relationships between the Colonial militias and British regulars during the 7 Years' War and Pontiac's Revolt -the role of the Battles of Lexington and Concord in forcing Congress to create the Continental Army -the political significance of the name the Continental Army, as opposed to the American or Congressional or Colonial Army -the political significance of appointing George Washington, a Southerner and Virginian, as Commander of a mostly Northern militia force -an introduction to Washington's senior officers: Artemas Ward, Israel Putnam, and Charles Lee -initial British assessments of the strength and effectiveness of the new Continental Army -the importance of the American victory at Fort Ticonderoga in reshaping the war; namely, the capture of British soldiers meant that American rebels would not be summarily executed as seditious traitors but treated with basic PoW protections -a discussion of Grievance #24, that King George has ordered war crimes to be committed against innocent civilians -the tendency on both sides to commit war crimes against the civilian population and efforts by officers on both sides to discipline soldiers who abused the civilians population Dr. Chandler's book can be found here: [War, Patriotism and Identity in Revolutionary North America](https://boydellandbrewer.com/book/war-patriotism-and-identity-in-revolutionary-north-america-9781783274376/?v=0d149b90e739) The cover image is a drawing of an American Soldier in 1778 by Friedrich von Germann (1744–1794), Captain of the Brunswick Regiment Erbprinz. The Brunswick Regiment was not technically Hessian; nevertheless, it formed part of the subsidy regiments (or mercenaries) hired by the British to fight the Americans.

This week, your hosts Steve Lowry and Yvonne Godfrey interview Michael Levine of Rappaport, Glass, Levine & Zullo LLP (https://www.rglzlaw.com/)   Remember to rate and review GTP in iTunes: Click Here To Rate and Review   Episode Details: Michael Levine -- a partner at Rappaport, Glass, Levine & Zullo LLP known as "Motorcycle Mike" -- explains how he secured justice for 33-year-old air traffic controller Kevin Barrett, who endured a painful through-the-knee amputation after a pick-up truck collided with his motorcycle and crushed his right leg. The driver of the truck abruptly cut off Kevin, who was going 10 miles per hour over the speed limit, while making a left turn. Kevin uses a prosthetic limb as a result of this catastrophic injury. A Suffolk County, New York jury returned a $5,750,000 verdict, assigning 63% of the negligence to the defendant.   Click Here to Read/Download the Complete Trial Documents   Guest Bio: Michael Levine   Michael Levine is, without a doubt, the prime example of a “Go-Getter”. In over 35 years Michael has never stopped chasing after perfection, and his reputation and record are a shining reflection of this. If you're looking for a personal injury attorney who is a rare combination of experience, hard-charging, tactical, spirited, and unfailingly caring, you've found him.   At RGLZ we sometimes wonder how Michael finds the time and energy to do everything he does. He lectures often on his areas of expertise before the bar associations of Suffolk and New York State, serves on the Grievance and Judicial Screening committees for those bar associations, is on the board of directors of the Suffolk County Bar Association, writes articles for legal journals, has served as the President of the more than 4000 member strong New York State Trial Lawyers' Association, is Mayor of his home town of Old Field, NY,  and still finds time to be an active part of the Long Island motorcycle community as Motorcycle Mike Esq.   This is all on top of a thriving practice here at RGLZ, where Michael handles litigation in numerous types of personal injury cases including motorcycle accidents, auto accidents, truck accidents, premises liability accidents, construction accidents, and railroad and subway accidents. He is also a friend of labor unions, taking cases for the Transit Workers Union and other large unions in New York.   Despite this nearly insane workload, Michael Levine is also regarded as a true friend to his clients. He prides himself on providing round-the-clock access for his clients, regularly taking their calls personally at all hours of the day. This is backed up by the fact that, in his entire career, Michael Levine has never had a grievance filed against him, and many of his clients remain friends to this day. There simply aren't many attorneys out there who can make a claim like that. Despite Michael's dedication to improving both himself and his profession as a whole, his clients always come first, and his priorities are always simple.   “In my time as a personal injury attorney, I've seen almost all there is to see. A large part of my life is coming into other people's lives in what is likely their worst moments; and it's tough. It hurts to see people in these situations. But at the same time, it's what drives me. I know that I can make a difference for these people. And if, at the end of my time with them, I can see them smile, and feel just that little bit better… That's what I do all of this for.”   Read Full Bio LISTEN TO PREVIOUS EPISODES & MEET THE TEAM: Great Trials Podcast Show Sponsors: Legal Technology Services  Harris Lowry Manton LLP - hlmlawfirm.com Production Team: Dee Daniels Media Podcast Production   Free Resources: Stages Of A Jury Trial - Part 1  Stages Of A Jury Trial - Part 2

This week on the Mark Levin Show, there's this endless obsession with Israel and Jews by the Work Reich and this notion that Israel demands unlimited biblical rights to occupy land. Does anyone challenge the UK's sovereignty over Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland? Does anyone challenge the United States' sovereignty over Texas, California or Nevada? Why is it only Israel's right to exist is challenged? Next, not much is talked about the First Continental Congress which convened in Carpenter's Hall, Philadelphia, from September 5 to October 26, 1774. They agreed to boycott British goods in both directions, issued a Declaration of Rights and Grievances, and asserted in Section 4 that the foundation of English liberty and free government is the right of the people to participate in their legislative council. This gathering served as a key prelude to the Second Continental Congress and the Declaration of Independence two years later. Don't do this Iran deal, Mr. President! The Iranian regime the world's worst terrorist state for decades, which funds proxies, lies in negotiations, and uses talks to buy time while pursuing its fundamentalist ideology. The only path to true elimination of this regime is arming and training the Iranian people to overthrow their internal police state. Without fully toppling the regime, it will regroup, Hezbollah and Hamas will survive, and critics (Democrats, media, isolationists) will still attack Trump as having wimped out. Victory requires finishing off the Iranian regime through military, economic, and internal pressure: arming Iranian resistance groups, targeting the IRGC and internal security forces, encouraging the regular army to turn, and backing opposition operations with U.S. and Israeli airpower. With 92 million Iranians facing intensified oppression and executions, this environment is ideal for supporting internal revolt, as done successfully in past operations. The enemy must surrender or die. Zohran Mamdani is intentionally creating a violent and hostile environment for the Jewish community in New York City. Jews are being harassed, pushed, and beaten on the streets and outside temples using bullhorns, while swastikas and other hateful symbols appear in Jewish neighborhoods. Thugs, Islamists, and neo-Nazis act freely because they know they can get away with it. Mamdani speaks out of both sides of his mouth, fully aware of the situation, and is deliberately working to depopulate the city of Jewish people in order to turn it into a permanent center for people of his own faith. May 7, 2026 - Join us for a discussion with Dr. Jieun Baek, author of "Privileged but Powerless: How North Korean Elite Grievances Reveal the Regime's Greatest Weakness." In conversation with policy director Jonathan Corrado, Baek reveals a world of forbidden information, simmering resentment, and survival-driven masks, based on hundreds of hours of interviews with high-level escapees. Baek argues that this performative loyalty, born of fear and a desire to survive, obscures a critical vulnerability within the regime's core. In other words: the officials who seem most invested in preserving North Korea's status quo may become its most dangerous disruptors, not for ideological reasons but because of simmering resentment and vanishing alternatives. On this episode of the Midwest Flyways Podcast, Cal is joined by Carter (no Joey this week) to break down a controversial topic that's been gaining traction—the proposed Greyhound Protection Act and its potential impact on bird dog training, live bird use, and hunting culture as a whole.   What starts as a conversation about legislation quickly turns into a deeper discussion about federal overreach, unclear laws, and how vague wording could affect hunters, dog trainers, and field trials across the country. If you run dogs, train dogs, or care about the future of hunting, this is one you need to hear.   Then… things take a turn. We introduce a brand new segment: The Flyways Department of Grievances—and the first submission might be the most unhinged hunting story we've ever heard. It involves a dog, a public boat ramp, and a situation that spirals completely out of control. You've been warned.   Topics covered: What the Greyhound Protection Act is and why it matters How it could affect bird dog training and live bird use The role of organizations like the AKC and hunting groups Animal welfare vs. hunting tradition Why clarity in legislation matters more than ever Flyways Department of Grievances (Case #1)   Don't forget, duck hunting is still fun. On Tuesday's Mark Levin Show, not much is talked about the First Continental Congress which convened in Carpenter's Hall, Philadelphia, from September 5 to October 26, 1774. Also, today marks the 24th anniversary of Mark on the air. Mark celebrates by revisiting some of his most memorable moments — including his gripping live play-by-play coverage of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and the 2016 election.  Later, the military and economic operations against the Iranian regime have been spectacularly successful, and President Trump is wisely deciding how to end it while rejecting the left and isolationists who demand a quick withdrawal. This position reflects the Woke Reich who are rooting for America to fail to claim they were right, though they never were. Afterward, Rep Jim Jordan calls in to discuss his legislation for sanctuary cities.  Jordan's legislation grants immunity to local law enforcement that cooperates with federal agents, withholds certain federal grants from sanctuary jurisdictions, and creates a private right of action allowing victims harmed by released illegal migrants (after ignored detainers) to sue the responsible entities. Finally, Bret Baier calls in to discuss his new book, The Case for America: An Argument on Behalf of Our Nation – A Thoughtful Defense of Our History, Values, and National Character in Divisive Times. Most Americans think of the Declaration through its famous preamble “all men are created equal,” “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” But those lines were not the main event for the people who wrote the document. What mattered most to the patriots in 1776 were the 27 grievances against King George III that make up the bulk of the Declaration and explain why the colonies believed independence had become unavoidable. In Tyrants and Rogues, Parkinson brings those grievances to life by reconstructing the real events, conflicts, and personalities behind them from royal governors and British officials to the dramatic confrontations that pushed the colonies toward rebellion. The result is a vivid new account of the Revolutionary era that reveals the founders not just as philosophers but as political actors responding to specific crises and decisions by identifiable figures in the British government. By revisiting the grievances themselves, Parkinson answers questions that are often overlooked: Why did the colonies declare independence when they did? What were their nonnegotiable demands? And which individuals and events convinced them that reconciliation with Britain was impossible? The stories behind those charges explain the political tensions, fears, and conflicts of the Revolutionary moment and show how the issues that alarmed colonists in 1776, including questions about executive power, civil authority, and the rule of law, still resonate today.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Thomas Jefferson's draft of the Declaration of Independence contained 28 grievances against King George III — not 27. The final grievance, the one Congress cut before signing, accused the British king of waging cruel war against human nature by trafficking enslaved Africans across the Atlantic, forcing slavery onto unwilling American colonists, and then inciting those same enslaved people to rise up and kill their enslavers. Did King George III and the British monarchy actually bear responsibility for slavery in the 13 colonies? Or was Jefferson's grievance a strategic sleight of hand — an attempt to pin a uniquely American system onto the crown he wanted to escape? Historian Brooke Newman, author of The Crown's Silence: The Hidden History of the British Monarchy and Slavery, joins us to find out. She traces the British monarchy's involvement in the transatlantic slave trade from Queen Elizabeth I through King George III, examines what Jefferson got right and what he got wrong, and delivers her verdict on one of the most explosive what-ifs in United States history. HEADLINE: Historical Alienation: From the 1953 Coup to the 1979 Revolution GUEST AUTHOR: Nilo Tabrizy SUMMARY: Nilo Tabrizy explores the deep historical grievances that paved the way for modern Iranianunrest. The discussion centers on the 1953 coup against Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh, orchestrated by the CIA and MI6 to counter his popular push to nationalize oil. This foreign interference, combined with the Pahlavidynasty's disconnect from starving citizens—symbolized by the Shah's lavish party at Persepolis—fueled long-term alienation. These wounds provided the momentum for the 1979 Revolution. Tabrizy explains that the current regime's brutality is an extension of this historical struggle for autonomy and the people's rejection of autocratic rule. 21585
