The first triathlon in the UK was 1983. I did my first event in 1987 and while the sport continued to grow for the next 15 years it didn't really take off until the start of the Brownlee era from 2008. Having said that, there are a significant number of folks who I consider the legends - the Triathletes, coaches, and administrators who were instrumental in building the foundations of British triathlon. Since I started the podcast in 2017 I have spoken with many of these legends. Great coaches like Steve Trew and some of the top athletes from the 90's and 2000's like Jodie Swallow, Sarah Springman, Robin Brew, and Richard Hobson to name a few. Today's guest is another Legend of British Triathlon, Annie Emmerson, whose name you might recognise from her work with the BBC at triathlon events. We recently worked at Blenheim Triathlon and we started talking about her career in multi-sport from racing to broadcasting. In today's show we chat about: How triathlon saved Annie from a life of wine bars and partying Some characters from the good ol' days. Why racing as a pro isn't quite as glamorous as you think Female participation in triathlon Who we think should be selected for the Team GB Olympic Triathlon team. In today's podcast I chat to Tyler Hamilton, we chatted about some really key moments and experiences in his career. Firstly, his move to Europe for racing was a game-changer in his career, the tight bond within the US Postal Service team, which was crucial despite all the skepticism they faced. And above all Tyler's story about doping was eye-opening—seeing how it tangled him up morally and emotionally. And the whole doping culture, especially after the scandal, took a shady turn, getting more secretive. Dealing with all of this, the toll on Tyler's mental health and personal life was significant. And, of course, getting caught was a whirlwind, but it sparked a period of growth and honesty for him. Wattbike Wattbike is the only brand I trust for my indoor training needs. Running is the final leg of a triathlon and the one where most people seem to struggle. Whether that's because of a lack of running fitness or going too hard on the bike it's a hard puzzle to solve. The obvious solution would be to just run more, but that does increase the risk of injury. Myself and many other coaches prefer to focus on consistency by building a robust framework combined with better technique and running efficiency. Today's guest, Eoin Everard, is one such coach. An elite runner, now physiotherapist and back pain specialist from Ireland, Eoin knows a thing or two about running fast, having run under 4 minutes for a mile, 14 minutes for 5k, and 30 minutes for 10k, and competed for Ireland internationally. He also treats a lot of elite runners and knows a thing or two about how to keep runners healthy and consistent with their training. I love chatting about how to help athletes get faster, and today as usual we cover plenty of ground, including: Typical triathlon injuries and how to prevent them Building running economy with strength training and some simple plyometrics Should you change your foot strike to run faster Why you should make proactive visits to your physiotherapist If you'd like to follow Eoin on social media you can find him here Facebook Everard Physio & Pilates Back Aware Belt Instagram Everard Pilates Physio BackAwareBelt If you would like to try Eoin's sport Pilates class you can take a FREE Trial HERE Eoin also mentioned the two books he has written Get to the Line in the Best Shape Possible The Secrets of a Healthy Spine. Many people are asking how do we create legendary cultures in a digital / hybrid work environment. On this episode of Christopher Lochhead: Follow Your Different, we ask Daniel Coyle this question: how can we create legendary cultures? Daniel Coyle is a New York Times bestselling author. His book, The Culture Code, was named the Best Business Book of the Year a little while back by Bloomberg. He has a new book out now, called The Culture Playbook: 60 highly effective actions to help your group succeed. He is the man on all things culture, so stay and listen to learn more. Daniel Coyle on Writing His New Book The conversation starts of with congratulating Daniel Coyle on publishing his latest book, The Culture Playbook. Daniel follows up on his thoughts on how he feels when launching a new project or book. “We are living through a moment, aren't we? It's like, when you start a project like this, you're never quite sure when it's going to land. And everybody's trying to figure out, “How are we going? How are we going to do this? How are we going to work together now? Everybody's having that conversation now. It is a moment, and it's kind of fun to explore what's possible” – Daniel Coyle The Transition Period Daniel was then asked about his thoughts on certain huge companies that are telling their people to go back to the office. Another thing to note was that those who are pushing for these things are usually those who are Native Analogs – people whose life don't revolve in the digital sphere. Daniel thinks that this current period is a transitional phase, and it's a way for companies to see what works and what doesn't. “Is it transition and it is totally fascinating to see us people self-organize in this new world. And there's basically two schools of thought about it. The first school of thought is, this was a rupture. People things will never go back to the way they were, people discovered that they had lives outside of work. Then there's another school of thought, which says, Yeah, this is kind of part of a larger, longer journey, there was a sort of zoom out where people realized, hey, life's a lot bigger than work. But at the same time, that there is kind of a joy and a pleasure and a positivity and a productivity that comes out of being in the office. It's maybe not five days a week, maybe it's three, maybe it's two.” – Daniel Coyle Daniel admits that he himself falls under the second school of thought, and that going to the office can be quite beneficial for productivity, even if it's just 2 to 3 days off a week. Organizing Your Office for the New Work Experience On the topic of adopting the hybrid workplace, one of the issues brought up was the lack of coordination. For example, one could be scheduled to be at the office, yet the people who they have to work or have a meeting with are staying at home. Daniel agrees that this is currently happening in a lot of offices, and is something that the teams and management need to address. They have to be intentional and work out schedules where everyone in the team is in the office at the same time, so they can meet and collaborate on what needs to be done for their projects. Management can also help in coordinating schedules, so that different teams that need to work together can have overlapping schedules. But at the end of the day, the initiative to coordinate should come from the teams themselves. Otherwise, you'll be stuck in your cubicle, still doing zoom calls with your teammates. To hear more from Daniel Coyle and how to create a legendary culture in your workplace, download and listen to this episode. Bio Daniel Coyle is the New York Times best-selling author of The Culture Playbook, The Culture Code, The Secret Race, The Little Book of Talent, The Talent Code, Lance Armstrong's War, Hardball: A Season in the Projects and the novel Waking Samuel. Great Conversation with ex pro cyclists Tyler Hamilton. We talk about sport, honesty, vulnerability, and meditation.
Tyler Hamilton is a former pro cyclist, author, coach, and financial advisor. Hamilton raced at the highest level in the 1990s and 2000s, earning high finishes at the Tour de France and Olympics before testing positive and then exposing pro cycling's doping culture with his 2012 book, The Secret Race. Travis and Mace talk with Tyler about mental health; his current life and work; what it was like to blow the whistle; the importance of initiating tough conversations; how to feel alive in the absence of racing; and more.
Tyler Hamilton was one of the early adopters of power based training. We reflect on the evolution of coaching and whether recent innovations in cycling software are helping or hindering riders trying to hit their cycling goals. Tyler Hamilton comes on to discuss the doping scandal he faced that forced him to retire from cycling early, "Man Up", his relationship with Lance Armstrong and how to train both mentally & physically for a Tour de France **I am NOT a professional. The topics that are covered are spoken solely from past personal experiences and, while the things I talk about have helped me in the past, they may not be a good fit for everyone** Tyler's Socials: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/realtylerhamilton/?hl=en Twitter: https://twitter.com/Ty_Hamilton Website: https://www.tylerhamiltonofficial.com
Epic show with topics for everyone! Tune in to your chosen topic or listen to the whole thing to become fully enlightened! *First 2 minutes - obnoxious intro music *next 30 minutes - reflections on Tyler Hamilton biography - we talk about doping, eating disorders, and the insane logistics of being a great doping cyclist in the late 90's and early 00's. * final half hour - We read an epic letter from sub-4 miler John Simons that rips the U's decision to cut Men's track and field and give our two cents. On a related note, we talk about MSHSL's decision to expand to three classes in XC starting in 2021 and to NOT hold state XC this year. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/seder-skier/support

This week we are joined by 8x Tour de France rider - Tyler Hamilton and his co-host in the Adventure Audio podcast - Pete Hock!Tyler had a long and successful cycling career including eight Tour de France appearances, many of which he was a key asset for Lance Armstrong.Among Tyler's many other accomplishments, he also competed in two Olympic Summer Games, winning gold in the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Things changed a bit for Tyler once doping allegations became real, but his past cycling performances are impossible to argue. Calgary based Pete Hock pursues his own business interests, and he and Tyler now co-host the Adventure Audio Podcast which you can find on most streaming platforms. We sat down for a smooth cup of rose bros coffee and talked about Tyler's ski racing origins, transition to professional cycling, career ups and downs, doping in sport, life post-cycling, and Pete & Tyler's new podcast !Enjoy!Support the show (https://rosebros.ca/)

For years, it's been one of the biggest questions in sport. Did Lance Armstrong - the seven time winner of cycling's greatest race, the Tour de France - dope? Is the man who beat cancer to become one of the greatest sporting figures ever - a cheat? Armstrong has denied wrongdoing. But now a former teammate and roommate of Armstrong's, Tyler Hamilton, has produced the most detailed and wounding set of allegations yet. Is Hamilton self-serving and greedy, as Armstrong insists? Or a shaft of light on a sport that's been mired in murk?(Image: US cyclist Tyler Hamilton. Credit: AFP/Getty Images)
