For the season one finale episode, I am joined by acclaimed authors/researchers Chip Madinger and Scott Raile to discuss the timeline of events surrounding the recording of John & Yoko's Unfinished Music No. 1: Two Virgins. In their meticulously researched chronology, Lennonology: Strange Days Indeed - A Scrapbook Of Madness, Chip & Scott date the recording to earlier in May 1968 than is widely thought. You can buy Lennonology from the official website: https://lennonology.com/
This week, our Featured Artist is Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Asia; almost one in the same! In our "Best Instrumentals" segment, Frankie has one that is over 10 minutes long, yet well-worth your time. Attorney Jay Bergen represented Beatle John Lennon in court in a 1975 case with ties to the mafia! Jay chronicles the story and the case in his new book, “Lennon, the Mobster, and the Lawyer” (which is available now wherever you buy books). In 1975, Morris Levy, the mafia-connected owner of Roulette records, released “Roots,” an unauthorized version of a rock & roll oldies album that John Lennon was had been producing with Phil Spector. Morris Levy claimed John Lennon had verbally agreed to let Morris release and market the album on TV worldwide. When Morris released “Roots,” John Lennon's official label, Capitol/EMI quickly released the official “John Lennon Rock & Roll” album, and that resulted in Morris Levy filing two lawsuits against John Lennon and Capitol/EMI. Jay walks us through the case, the outcome, and how he ended up representing John in this little publicized trial. He recalls meeting John & Yoko, spending time with them during the trial, and what John Lennon was like on the witness stand. He also shares great stories about Yoko's input during the trial, the role her swami played, and why he was summoned to the Dakota to meet with Yoko by herself.

‘Pizza and Fairytales' is John Lennon's phrase— a brilliant one—and he conjured it to describe one man: Paul McCartney. John in the 70s is fairly well documented. But what about the less communicative, less examined half of Lennon/McCartney? In this episode, Phoebe and Daphne give McCartney two things he doesn't often get: detailed lyrical analysis and recognition of his atypical self-expression. Extending this basic respect serves to shine a brighter, warmer light on the Lennon/McCartney relationship—not just in the 70s but up to present day and beyond. Lennon and McCartney will be joined forever; they deserve to have their true story told. Episode Three is a deep exploration of John's inner conflicts—his lasting trauma over the Beatles breakup, his susceptibility to Yoko's continuing mind games, and potentially lingering aftereffects of his nightmarish therapy at the hands of Arthur Janov. Primal Scream Therapy is a topic which usually slides under the radar of Beatles discourse—until now. AKOM believes it was catastrophic to John's psyche and the Lennon/McCartney relationship. Ultimately, John chooses not to revive his partnership with Paul McCartney in New Orleans. How does this alter the course of their renewed relationship? And how does John's eventual descent into paranoia and superstition alter both his feelings for and perception of Paul? Movie 'John & Yoko - Above Us Only Sky' - Online All-day Movie Workshop with David Hoffmeister"Opening to be Fully Used by Spirit" was the top contender for this Movie Workshop theme, and who can be more representative for this theme than John & Yoko. The documentary "Above Us Only Sky" shows us, John and Yoko, as a Holy Relationship fulfilling their mission in time. We see John exposing, I'm a jealous guy, singing his expression session. We are with Yoko's concept exhibition that is only in the mind, and we hear Yoko say that looking back, seeing the big picture, the reason that she and John came together was to create "Imagine." David uses all these different aspects of John and Yoko's life to talk about the Holy Spirits' desire for us to wake up and how the Holy Spirit works in our lives and relationships. In the second part of the Spreaker, David answers questions from workshop participants. If you are interested to know more about the All Day Movie Workshops, here is more information: https://circle.livingmiraclescenter.org/acim-online-moviesThe online movie workshop was recorded on February 20, 2021, in Living Miracles Studio in Quantico, Chapala, Mexico.

It's November of 1973 and, for the first time since he was a teenager, John Lennon was a bachelor. In the wake of the John/Yoko split, an alcohol-fueled Lennon set out to drown his sorrows in drink, drugs and favorite songs from his past. Enlisting the help of longtime collaborator Phil Spector, the so-called "Oldies But Moldies" sessions began in Los Angeles which found John howling his rock and roll roots with mixed and inebriated results. As Lennon stumbled through the studios and clubs of southern California, Ringo Starr enjoyed his time in the spotlight with the release of the hugely successful Ringo album. This star-studded LP of catchy rock and roll took the world by storm, and transformed Starr from former fab to full-fledged solo artist. With the mammoth lead-off single Photograph and a host of catchy pop song craft, pals George Harrison, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Harry Nilsson, Marc Bolan, Billy Preston, producer Richard Perry and others helped Ringo create one of the biggest albums of the decade. With only a few weeks in the year left to go, the four former Beatles had managed to release four hit LPs of solo material which lit up charts around the world - and, impossible though it may be to believe, the biggest ex-Beatle LP was still yet to come... In this episode we continue with our AES series and are delighted to have another Record Plant alum, Rod O’Brien with us. Rod grew up in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen back when that name meant something. Starting hired on as a ‘general’ at Record Plant, Rod was teamed with Jack Douglas working on legendary records by the likes of John & Yoko, Aerosmith, The New York Dolls, Cheap Trick and many more. Today, Rod works in LA as lead sound designer for film and TV including shows like Eastbound & Down and Grace & Frankie. Listen in as Rod tells tales of making great records and his transition to audio post production. Rod’s first meeting with John Lennon is certainly worth a listen but more than that you’ll also learn about Jay Messina’s crabs, the Wilhelm scream and the fishcrow.
Brian and Brian listen to the posthumously released John Lennon and Yoko Ono album Milk and Honey. It is a rare true follow up for the show, since they've listened to the previous John/Yoko album Double Fantasy on episode vv017. Love notes: volcanovinyl@gmail.com How much do we love you? Let us count the tweets: @volcanovinyl #vv116
In episode three, we are joined by musical comedian Jay Foreman to unpick the back catalogue of the world's greatest band in the hunt for the World's Worst Beatles Song. Ben and Jay’s exhaustive knowledge sees Barry trying desperately to hold his own while we explore mass murder as a subject for pop songs, Ringo’s song-writing process and John & Yoko’s tantric music - with a shout-out for Donovan’s rhyming dictionary.
