Na de boeken van Mozes, de historische en profetische boeken komen de profetische boeken. Profeten zijn mensen die boodschappen van God doorgeven. Vaak voorspellen ze wat er in de toekomst gaat gebeuren. De profetische boeken zijn soms moeilijk te begrijpen. Zeker als het gaat om wat er in de toekomst gaat gebeuren. Toch laten de profetische boeken vooral een God zien die achter Zijn volk aanzit en hen probeert te behoeden voor misstappen. Hij is als de Echtgenoot van een overspelige vrouw. Ondanks de ontrouw van Zijn volk blijft God vechten voor het hart van Israël (én de rest van de wereld). Hij maakt duidelijk dat Israël tekort schiet als Zijn dienaar en dat er een Lijdende Knecht zal komen, die uiteindelijk Koning wordt. Dit is de Messias - de Verlosser - die de wereld zo nodig heeft. Jesaja (10 minuten) Jesaja is waarschijnlijk de bekendste profeet die we kennen. ‘Jesaja' betekent ‘De Heer redt' en de naam lijkt dus erg op bijvoorbeeld ‘Jozua' en ‘Jezus'. Het Bijbelboek dat Jesaja's naam draagt, is als het ware een mini-Bijbel. Het beschrijft de val van de mens, de gevolgen van de zonde, hoe de mens zonder God steeds verder wegzakt en hoe God uiteindelijk redding brengt. Jesaja leefde zo'n 750 jaar voor Christus. Dat is dus de tijd die in het Bijbelboek Koningen wordt beschreven. Juda en het tienstammenrijk (Israël genoemd) leefden naast elkaar. In 722 werd Israël verslagen door Assyrië en hield het tienstammenrijk op te bestaan, precies zoals Jesaja voorspelde. Hij profeteerde ook over de ballingschap van Juda. Het eerste deel van Jesaja is weinig hoopvol. Tussen hoofdstuk 1 en hoofdstuk 39 wordt vooral gesproken over de zonde en het oordeel van God voor mensen die volharden in hun rebellie. Vanaf hoofdstuk 40 is de toon een stuk positiever. Dan krijgen we te horen over de hoop die we vinden in God en beloften over genade, herstel en vrede. Vier thema's komen nadrukkelijk naar voren in dit Bijbelboek: 1. God is de Heilige van Israël; 2. Israël is Gods heilige volk; 3. Jeruzalem is Gods heilige stad; 4. God roept de heidenen (dus de mensen die niet tot het volk Israël behoren) op om Hem te aanbidden. Ook profeteert Jesaja over de Messias (de ‘Gezalfde'). Dit zijn een paar sleutelverzen: Jezus' geboorte: Daarom zal de Heere Zelf u een teken geven: Zie, de maagd zal zwanger worden. Zij zal een Zoon baren en Hem de naam Immanuel geven. (7:14, Herziene Statenvertaling) Jezus' bediening: De geest van God, de HEER, rust op mij, want de HEER heeft mij gezalfd. Om aan armen het goede nieuws te brengen, heeft hij mij gezonden, om aan verslagen harten hoop te bieden, om aan gevangenen hun vrijlating bekend te maken en aan geketenden hun bevrijding, om een genadejaar van de HEER uit te roepen en een dag van wraak voor onze God, om allen die treuren te troosten, om aan Sions treurenden te schenken een kroon op hun hoofd in plaats van stof, vreugdeolie in plaats van een rouwgewaad, feestkledij in plaats van verslagenheid. (61:1-3a) Jezus' lijden en dood: Maar hij was het die onze ziekten droeg, die ons lijden op zich nam. Wij echter zagen hem als een verstoteling, door God geslagen en vernederd. Om onze zonden werd hij doorboord, om onze wandaden gebroken. Voor ons welzijn werd hij getuchtigd, zijn striemen brachten ons genezing. Wij dwaalden rond als schapen, ieder zocht zijn eigen weg; maar de wandaden van ons allen liet de HEER op hem neerkomen. (53:4-6) Jezus' opstanding: Neig uw oor en kom tot Mij, luister, en uw ziel zal leven; want Ik zal met u een eeuwig verbond sluiten: de betrouwbare gunstbewijzen aan David. (55:3, Herziene Statenvertaling) Met dit in ons achterhoofd gaan we kijken wat er zoal gebeurd in Jesaja. In de eerste hoofdstukken zien we Gods aanklacht tegen Israël en Jeruzalem en wordt ook in detail het oordeel beschreven. Het zesde hoofdstuk is echter uniek in de Bijbel, omdat het een inkijkje geeft in de hemel. Jesaja wordt namelijk in een visioen naar de troonzaal van God getransporteerd, waar enkele hemelwezens uitroepen hoe heilig God is. Jesaja is doodsbang. Hij weet dat geen zondig mens de heilige God kan zien en dat kan overleven. Dan gebeurt er iets bijzonders, iets wat we niet mogen missen. Een engel raakt Jesaja aan met een stukje houtskool. Het is een symbolische handeling. God zuivert Jesaja hier van zijn zonden. Dat kon vanwege het offer dat Jezus later zou brengen. Jesaja's opdracht De Heer geeft Jesaja een opdracht: hij moet het volk vertellen van Gods aanstaande oordeel. We verwachten en hopen natuurlijk dat de mensen zullen luisteren en zich zullen bekeren. God legt aan Jesaja uit dat dit niet zal gebeuren. Toch moet hij deze opdracht volbrengen en trouw blijven aan Gods plan. Jesaja vraagt hoe lang hij moet profeteren. God antwoord, ‘Totdat de steden en huizen geheel verlaten zijn en er geen mens meer woont, tot heel het land verwoest is, één grote woestenij. Totdat de Heer de mensen heeft weggevoerd en er totale verlatenheid heerst in het land. En als er nog een tiende deel achterblijft, dan gaat ook dat in vlammen op, zoals een eik of een terebint wordt geveld voor een vuur. Er blijft slechts een stronk over, en het zaad in die stronk is heilig.' Als het volk een bos is, dan blijft dus slechts één stronkje over. Een heel klein beetje hoop dus. Maar het zaad in die stronk is wel heilig. Dat roept de vraag op: ‘Wie is dat heilige zaad?' Het duurt niet lang voor God die vraag via Jesaja's woorden beantwoordt. Eerst gaat de profeet naar koning Achaz, een afstammeling van David en de koning van Jeruzalem. Hij vertelt hem dat zijn ondergang nadert. Assyrië zal eerst het tienstammenrijk verwoesten en daarna is Juda aan de beurt. Toch mag hij ook een boodschap van hoop brengen. Uit de maagd zal namelijk een zoon geboren wordt, een ‘Immanuel'. Immanuel betekent ‘God met ons'. Ook zegt Jesaja, ‘Uit de stronk van Isaï schiet een telg op'. Isaï is een andere naam voor Jesse, de vader van David. ‘En op Hem zal de Geest van de Heer rusten.' Deze nieuwe Koning zal Gods volk bevrijden en een tijdperk van vrede en gerechtigheid zal aanbreken. Zoals gezegd, Jesaja voorspelde niet alleen de komst van Assyrië, maar ook de komst van Babylon. Deze koninkrijken waren echte wereldmachten in die tijd, arrogant en gewelddadig. Babylon was zelfs een paar graden erger dan de Assyriërs voor hen. De Babylonische koningen beschouwden zichzelf als hoger dan alle andere goden in deze wereld. God heeft Zijn oordeel voor zowel Assyrië als Babylon als enkele andere natiën klaar. Gelukkig is het oordeel nooit het laatste hoofdstuk dat God schrijft. Het kwaad moet worden gestraft, zeker. Maar bij God is er altijd hoop op genade, voor zowel de afstammelingen van Israël als voor de andere volken. Eerst zien we nog hoe God de aarde verwoest en zuivert, maar daarna wordt een geweldig feest beschreven op de berg Sion (waar Jeruzalem ligt). Deze feestmaaltijd is voor ALLE volken. Dus ook voor de volken die er in de eerdere passages flink van langs kregen. De boodschap is duidelijk: het kwaad zal worden vernietigd en wie zijn hoop in de Heer vindt, mag deelnemen aan de feestmaaltijd. Dat klinkt enerzijds zo eenvoudig, maar anderzijds is het zo moeilijk. De leiders van Jeruzalem vertrouwen bijvoorbeeld meer op militaire bescherming van Egypte dan op God. Jesaja spreekt hen daar op aan. Alleen berouw tonen en terugkeren naar God kan Jeruzalem redden van Assyrië, de grote vijand. Hizkia luistert naar Jesaja en smeekt God om de stad en zijn koninkrijk te redden. God luistert. Hij laat een engel in één nacht 185.000 Assyrische soldaten ombrengen. Helaas gaat Hizkia een volgende keer wel de mist in. Hij laat een groep Babylonische vertegenwoordigers alles in zijn stad zien, inclusief de tempel, de paleizen en de schatkamers. Het is een poging om een nieuwe alliantie voor bescherming te smeden. Jesaja vertelt hem dat hij een grote fout heeft gemaakt. Dat blijkt ook wel. Een eeuw later komt Babylon om Jeruzalem te vernietigen en haar schatten te roven. De inwoners worden meegevoerd naar Babylon. Is de hoop dan toch verloren? Nee. Het boomstronkje met daarin het heilige zaad is overgebleven, precies zoals God had voorspeld. Is Jesaja de enige schrijver? De tweede helft van Jesaja is dan ook een stuk hoopvoller. Maar er is iets geks aan de hand. God spreekt hier namelijk alsof de ballingschap al heeft plaatsgevonden. We moeten dan ook weer even naar de tijdlijn kijken. Jesaja leefde zo'n honderd jaar vóór de Babyloniërs Jeruzalem innamen en een groot deel van de bevolking meenamen (dat was in 597 voor Christus). De tempel werd tien jaar later verwoest en opnieuw werden Israëlieten meegenomen naar Babylon. Jesaja voorspelde dit al en bewees zo een profeet van God te zijn. Het zou goed kunnen dat hij ook voorspellingen deed voor de periode na de ballingschap. Als God Jesaja honderd jaar vooruit kon laten kijken, kon Hij hem ook tweehonderd jaar in de toekomst laten zien. Maar het zou ook kunnen dat het tweede gedeelte van het boek is geschreven door profeten in de traditie van Jesaja. Zeg maar, Jesaja's leerlingen en leerlingen van die leerlingen. In de hoofdstukken 8, 29 en 30 zegt God namelijk tegen Jesaja dat hij bepaalde zaken moet opschrijven en de boekrollen moet verzegelen. Het is mogelijk dat deze mensen die boekrollen van Jesaja later hebben geopend en deze hebben geïnterpreteerd volgens de tijd waarin ze leefden. De meeste academici geloven dat Jesaja niet alleen door Jesaja is geschreven. Zelf neig...

Porodzi Syna, któremu nadasz imię Jezus, on bowiem zbawi swój lud od jego grzechów». A stało się to wszystko, aby się wypełniło słowo Pańskie powiedziane przez Proroka: «oto dziewica pocznie i porodzi Syna, któremu nadadzą imię Emmanuel», to znaczy Bóg z nami. Zbudziwszy się ze snu, Józef uczynił tak, jak mu polecił Anioł Pański: wziął swoją Małżonkę do siebie, lecz nie zbliżał się do Niej, aż porodziła Syna, któremu nadał imię Jezus.
Izaj. 7,1-14 (1) Za panowania Achaza, syna Jotama, syna Uzjasza, króla judzkiego, wyruszył Resin, król Aramu, wraz z Pekachem, synem Remaliasza, królem Izraela, na wojnę przeciw Jerozolimie; nie mógł jej jednak zdobyć. (2) Domowi Dawida doniesiono, że Aram sprzymierzył się z Efraimem. Na tę wieść zadrżał on sam oraz cały jego lud, jak drżą drzewa w lesie, gdy uderzy w nie wiatr. (3) Wtedy PAN polecił Izajaszowi: Wyjdź Achazowi naprzeciw, ty i twój syn Szear-Jaszub. Spotkacie się przy końcu kanału Górnego Stawu, na trakcie wiodącym na Pole Pilśniarza. (4) Powiedz mu tak: Uważaj, lecz bądź spokojny. Nie bój się. Niech twoje serce nie truchleje z powodu tych dwóch niedopałków dymiących głowni, bo tylko tak można określić gniew Resina z Aramem i gniew syna Remaliasza. (5) Aram, Efraim i syn Remaliasza uknuli przeciwko tobie złowrogi plan. Uzgodnili: (6) Wyruszmy na Judę, zastraszmy ją, podzielmy ją między siebie i ustanówmy w niej królem syna Tabala. (7) Dlatego tak mówi Wszechmocny PAN: To się nie stanie i tak nie będzie! (8) Otóż stolicą Aramu jest Damaszek, a głową Damaszku Resin. Jeszcze sześćdziesiąt pięć lat, a Efraim, rozbity, przestanie być ludem. (9) Stolicą zaś Efraima jest Samaria, a głową Samarii syn Remaliasza. Jeśli nie uwierzycie, nie ostaniecie się! (10) Ponadto PAN powiedział do Achaza: (11) Proś dla siebie o znak od PANA, twego Boga, choćby miał być tak głęboko jak w krainie umarłych albo przeciwnie, gdzieś wysoko! (12) Achaz jednak odpowiedział: Nie będę PANA o to prosił. Nie chcę wystawiać Go na próbę. (13) Wówczas Izajasz oświadczył: Słuchajcie, domu Dawida: Czy mało wam, że uprzykrzacie się ludziom? Musicie uprzykrzać się też Bogu? (14) Dlatego sam Pan da wam znak: oto panna pocznie i urodzi syna, i da mu na imię Immanuel. Mat. 1,18-23 (18) Narodziny Jezusa Chrystusa zostały poprzedzone następującymi wydarzeniami. Jego matka Maria wyszła za Józefa, lecz zanim wspólnie zamieszkali, okazało się, że jest ona w ciąży za sprawą Ducha Świętego. (19) Jednak Józef, jej mąż, jako człowiek prawy, nie chciał jej zniesławić, dlatego zamierzał rozwieść się z nią bez rozgłosu. (20) Gdy rozważał taką możliwość, ukazał mu się we śnie anioł Pana i powiedział: Józefie, synu Dawida, nie bój się przyjąć Marii, twojej żony. To, że spodziewa się dziecka, sprawił Duch Święty. (21) Urodzi ona Syna i dasz Mu na imię Jezus, On bowiem wybawi swój lud z jego grzechów. Tak więc od Abrahama do Dawida jest w sumie czternaście pokoleń; od Dawida do przesiedlenia babilońskiego czternaście pokoleń; od przesiedlenia babilońskiego do Chrystusa czternaście pokoleń.
W poprzednim odcinku zakończyliśmy historię Jerozolimy na królu Dawidzie. Biblia pierwszy raz wtedy wspomina o czymś, co być może zbudował tam Dawid. Niektórzy tłumacze używają słowa “nasyp”, inni pozostawiają słowo nieprzetłumaczone i np. w Biblii Warszawskiej w 2 Samuela 5:9 czytamy: “Zamieszkał tedy Dawid w twierdzy i nazwał ją Miastem Dawida. Obudował ją też Dawid wokoło, począwszy od Millo ku środkowi”. Ten “nasyp” czy to “Millo” być może było twierdzą albo wieżą. To samo słowo występuje także w Sędziów, rozdziale 9 i mowa tam o domu Millo. Tak więc była to chyba wieża broniąca Jerozolimy. Niestety Jerozolima została od tamtego czasu zburzona kilkakrotnie i trudno dzisiaj powiedziedzieć co to było. Bardzo podobnie jest z innymi budowlami, o których będziemy dzisiaj mówić.W poprzednim odcinku mówiłem też o dwóch źródłach, które leżały poza murami Miasta Dawidowego, czyli twierdzy, która znajdowała się na górze Syjon. Oba źródła leżały poza murami. Jedno się nazywało En-Rogel, a drugie Gichon. To drugie było bliżej i przebito tunel, którym można było pobierać z niego wodę także podczas oblężenia. Tym właśnie tunelem prawdopodobnie przedostał się Joab. Gdy Dawid był już stary jego syn Adoniasz zgromadził wszystkich przy pierwszym źródle. Tymczasem Dawid kazał obwołać królem Salomona przy źródle Gichon. Źródła musiały być stosunkowo blisko, bo w 1 Królewskiej 1:41 czytamy: “Usłyszał o tym Adoniasz i wszyscy zaproszeni, którzy byli u niego, a właśnie kończyli ucztę. Gdy jednak Joab usłyszał głos rogu, rzekł: Co znaczy ta wrzawa w mieście?”.Salomon zbudował wiele rzeczy, które niestety znamy tylko z opisu. Po pierwsze na górze Moria zbudował świątynię. W 1 Królewskiej 7:8 czytamy o niektórych z tych budowli: “Dom zaś jego, w którym mieszkał, w drugim podwórzu z tyłu tej sali, był zbudowany tak samo. Dla córki faraona, którą Salomon pojął za żonę, też kazał zbudować taki sam dom, jak ta sala”. Salomon więc nie mieszkał w najstarszej części miasta, którą dalej nazywano Miastem Dawidowym. On wybudował wiele domów, w tym jeden dla córki faraona, która była jego żoną. Biblia mówi, że miał w związku z tym małżeństwem wyrzuty sumienia. Uważał, że córka faraona, nie może mieszkać w Mieście Dawidowym, bo przebywała tam arka. Dostała więc swój własny dom. Wszystkie te nowe budowle znajdowały się chyba na zboczu góry Moria, gdzie na szczycie znalazła się świątynią. Tak więc w czasach Salomona Jerozolima objęła swoim zasięgiem oba wzgórza: Syjon i Morię.Tradycja żydowska przypisuje Salomonowi wybudowanie akweduktów doprowadzających wodę. Niestety żadne inne źródła nie potwierdzają tego. Dość często ludzie kojarzyli współczesne sobie budowle ze starożytnymi postaciami. W naszej historii Bolesław Chrobry miał Szczerbcem uderzyć w Złotą Bramę. Niestety za jego życia ona jeszcze nie istniała. Być może podobnie było w Jerozolimie. Akwedukty zbudowali prawdopodobnie Hasmoneusze czy Herod Wielki. Ostatni akwedukt był postawiony prawdopodobnie przez Piłata. Niestety nie ma tutaj nic pewnego.Za życia Salomona panował pokój. Przypominam, że nazwa Jerozolima prawdopodobnie znaczy “Miasto podwójnego pokoju”, mówiłem o tym w poprzednim odcinku. Samo imię “Salomon” także pochodzi od słowa pokój. Niestety po jego śmierci wszystko się zmieniło. Żydzi podzielili się na dwa królestwa. Jerozolima stała się stolicą tego dwu plemiennego. Wtedy Jerozolimę najechał też faraon Sziszak. Król Rechoboam się poddał, a Egipcjanie złupili Jerozolimę. Być może zabrali wtedy arkę. Mówiłem już o tym trochę przy okazji odcinka 1 o Jeroboamie, który był królem tego dziesięcio plemiennego królestwa. Sziszak był pierwszym, który zdobył stolicę Judy, ale niestety nie ostatni.Jerozolimę rozbudowywali kolejni królowie Judy. Dobudowywali oni mury, a Ezechiasz zbudował kanał wodny. Niestety zdobyta była wielokrotnie. Pierwszy raz jak już powiedziałem zdobył ją faraon Sziszak za rządów Rechoboama. Drugi raz Arabowie i Filistyni za rządów Jehorama. Trzeci raz Syryjczycy za rządów Jehoasza. Czwarty raz Izraelici (czyli te 10 plemion z północy) za rządów Amacjasza. Później Jerozolimę umocnili królowie Uzjasz, Jotam i Ezechiasz. Ten pierwszy miał postawić maszyny oblężnicze, a ten ostatni zbudować kanał wodny doprowadzający wodę, to bardzo przydało się podczas oblężenia asyryjskiego.Za rządów Ezechiasza Judę najechał król Asyrii Sanheryb. Oblegał Jerozolimę, ale nie udało mu się jej zdobyć. Ten najazd potwierdza relacja asyryjska, która mówi: “Jego samego [czyli króla Ezechiasza] zamknąłem, jak ptaka w klatce, w jego siedzibie, Jerozolimie. Jego miasta, które złupiłem”. Król Sanheryb chwali się zdobyciem miast judzkich i zamknięciem Ezechiasza w Jerozolimie jak ptaka w klatce. Potwierdza to więc fakt oblężenia oraz to, że Jerozolima nie została zdobyta. Syn Ezechiasza to Manasses. Był on sojusznikiem Asyrii. Biblia wspomina, że został on w pewnym momencie uwięziony w łańcuchach w Babilonie. Później został zwolniony. Nic jednak nie świadczy o tym, że Asyryjczycy oblegali wtedy Jerozolimę albo, że ją zdobyli. Później jednak była zdobyta kilkakrotnie.Gdy król Jozjasz zginął pod Meggido podczas bitwy z Egipcjanami. Faraon Necho zawrócił wtedy i zdobył Jerozolimę. Później pod Jerozolimę podeszli Babilończycy. Żydzi uznali babilońską zwierzchność, ale potem się zbuntowali i Babilończycy zdobyli miasto, króla uprowadzili do niewoli. Jako króla w Jerozolimie ustanowili Sedekiasza. Mówiłem o tym w odcinku 18 poświęconym prorokowi Ezechielowi, bo on żył właśnie w tamtych czasach. Ten ostatni król Sedekiasz także się zbuntował. Babilończycy wrócili i tym razem nie tylko zdobyli Jerozolimę, ale także ją zniszczyli. Jerozolima była w gruzach przez 70 lat. Niektórzy historycy twierdzą, że było to tylko 50 lat.W ten sposób omówiliśmy wszystkie zdobycia Jerozolimy, o których mówi Biblia. Na początku mieszkali tam Jebusyci. Ich miasto zdobyli i zniszczyli Judejczycy, ale Jebusyci wrócili i je odbudowali. Później zdobył je Dawid używając przejścia przez kanał wodny. Za Salomona panował pokój. Na drugim wzgórzu zbudowano wtedy świątynię. Potem jednak Jerozolima była oblegana wielokrotnie. Choć asyryjskie oblężenie odparto to jednak zdobyto ją około 7, 8 razy. Ostatecznie Jerozolimę zrównał z ziemią król Babilonu Nabuchodonozor.Na koniec kilka słów o zabudowie. Na górze Syjon było miasto Dawidowe, czyli najstarsza część Jerozolimy. Później na szczycie sąsiedniej góry Moria Salomon zbudował świątynię. Na zboczu tej drugiej góry zbudował też swój pałac, pałac dla swojej żony, córki faraona i wiele innych budynków. Kolejni władcy dobudowywali mury. Np. Manases zbudował swój mur, a Ezechiasz jest znany z budowy kanału wodnego. W czasach Ezechiasza czytamy też o prorokini Chuldzie, która mieszkała jak czytamy w 2 Królewskiej 22:14 w “drugiej dzielnicy”. W niektórych Bibliach oddano to jako “nową dzielnicę”. Była to prawdopodobnie część miasta na północ od świątyni.Ważnym miejscem były też różne doliny otaczające Jerozolimę. Warto może tylko wspomnieć o Dolinie Syna Chinnoma. W 2 Kronik 28:3 czytamy o królu Achazie: “On to składał ofiary z kadzidła w Dolinie Syna Chinnoma, a nawet własnego syna oddał na spalenie w ogniu, jak to było ohydnym zwyczajem narodów, które Pan wytępił przed synami izraelskimi”. W tej dolinie składano ofiary z ludzi i robili to królowie Achaz i Manasses. Później Jozjasz kazał to miejsce zniszczyć i zrobił tam śmietnisko. Będę o tym jeszcze mówił następnej części, bo Jezus nawiązywał do tego miejsca wielokrotnie. Dokładnych opisów Jerozolimy i jej dzielnic nie będę robił bo do tego lepiej nadają się mapy niż słowo mówione. Na sam koniec parę słów o górze Syjon. W ten sposób nazywano górę, na której była najstarsza część Jerozolimy czyli tz. Miasto Dawidowe. Tam przyniesiono arkę Bożą. Później jednak arkę przeniesiono na północną górę Moria. Salomon na górze Moria zbudował świątynię. Wtedy całą Jerozolimę zaczęto nazywać Syjon. Później ta nazwa przyjęła się na oznaczenie góry ze świątynią. Ją zaczęto nazywać Syjon, choć ta góra miała nazwę Moria. Tak więc górą Syjon nazywano najpierw górę z Miastem Dawida, potem tak nazywano górę gdzie była świątynia. To jednak nie wszystko. Dzisiaj górą Syjon nazywa się górę na zachód od Miasta Dawidowego. Jest więc małe zamieszanie. Gdy ktoś mówi góra Syjon to może mieć na myśli trzy różne góry, albo wręcz całą Jerozolimę czyli wszystkie góry na raz.Zamieszkał tedy Dawid w twierdzy i nazwał ją Miastem Dawida. What made Amon worse than Menashe and Achaz? Why do wicked kings enjoy longevity?
Une nation servante (Ésaïe 41). Dieu assure à Israël que la nation est toujours la servante de l’Éternel : « Je te choisis, et ne te rejette point » (Ésaïe 41:9, LSG). Ensuite, Dieu donne à Israël l’une des plus belles promesses de la Bible : « Ne crains rien, car Je suis avec toi; ne promène pas des regards inquiets, car Je suis ton Dieu; Je te fortifie, Je viens à ton secours, Je te soutiens de ma droite triomphante » (Ésaïe 41:10, LSG). Ici et dans les versets suivants, l’un des rôles fondamentaux d’Israël est de faire confiance au vrai Dieu pour avoir le salut (ce que le roi Achaz n’a pas fait) plutôt que de se confier à d’autres dieux et à leurs images comme le font les autres nations (Ésaïe 41:7, 21-24, 28, 29). Par conditions (Ésaïe 36:1) Lorsque l’infidèle Achaz mourut et qu’Ézéchias son fils fidèle à Dieu lui succéda, Ézéchias hérita d’un royaume qui avait perdu sa pleine indé- pendance. Ayant acheté l’aide assyrienne contre l’alliance de la Syrie et du nord d’Israël, Juda fut forcé de continuer à payer l’« argent de la protec- tion » sous forme de tribut à l’Assyrie (voir 2 Chron. 28:16-21). Lorsque le roi assyrien Sargon II mourut sur un champ de bataille lointain et que Sanchérib lui succéda en 705 av. JC, l’Assyrie semblait vulnérable. Des preuves tirées des textes assyriens et bibliques révèlent qu’Ézéchias a saisi cette occasion pour se rebeller (voir 2 Rois 18:7), en prenant des mesures énergiques en tant que chef de file d’une révolte anti-syrienne parmi les petites nations de sa région. Malheureusement pour lui, Ézéchias avait sous-estimé la résistance de la puissance de l’Assyrie. En 701 av. JC, quand Sanchérib avait soumis d’autres parties de son empire, il s’en prit à la Syrie et à la Palestine avec une force dévastatrice et ravagea Juda. Phakee and Raasson besieged Achaz, but could not defeat him. Achaz called in the king of the Assyrians to help and though Syria defeated AElath, Assyria defeated Damascus and slew king Raasson of Syria.

Surprise! Le signe est un fils. Mais comment le fait qu’une jeune femme porte un enfant et l’appelle « Emmanuel » peut-il être un signe de proportions bibliques ? Une autre chance (Ésaïe 7:10-13). Achaz n’a pas répondu à l’appel de foi d’Ésaïe. Alors, Dieu donna une autre chance au roi, lui disant de demander un signe qui soit « dans les lieux bas, soit dans les lieux élevés » (Ésaïe 7:11, LSG). Voici l’une des plus grandes invita- tions à la foi jamais données à un être humain. Contrairement aux loteries ou aux annonces publicitaires qui imposent souvent des restrictions, Dieu a laissé libre choix au roi. Dieu n’a même pas limité Son offre à la moitié de Son royaume, comme le font souvent les souverains humains qui prennent des engagements à la limite maximale de leur générosité (voir Esther 5:6, Esther 7:2, Marc 6:23). Il était prêt et disposé à vider tout le ciel et la terre pour un roi méchant si et seulement s’il voulait bien croire! Comme signe, Achaz aurait pu demander une montagne d’or ou des soldats aussi nombreux que des grains de sable au bord de la Méditerranée. Tentative d’interception (Esa. 7:3-9). Alors qu’Achaz pesait ses options politiques pour répondre à la menace d’Israël et de la Syrie, Dieu savait certaines choses qu’il ignorait. Tout d’abord, c’était Dieu qui avait laissé les ennuis s’abattre sur lui afin de le discipliner et de le ramener à la raison (2 Chron. 28:5, 19). De plus, bien que rechercher l’aide de Tiglath-Piléser semblait logique et attrayant d’un point de vue humain, Dieu savait que cela mettrait le royaume davidique de Juda sous contrôle étranger dont il ne pourrait jamais se remettre. Les enjeux étaient incroyablement élevés. Aussi, l’Éternel envoya Ésaïe intercepter le roi (apparemment alors qu’il inspectait l’approvisionnement en eau de Jérusalem en vue d’un siège) afin de le persuader de ne pas contacter le chef assyrien. We zijn op de helft van de advent en het licht van Kerstmis, het licht van de geboorte van Jezus, begint al dichterbij te komen. Dat zien we ook in de profetie van Jesaja, die we vandaag ontmoeten in onze reis op weg naar kerstmis. Jesaja 7: In de tijd dat Achaz regeerde over Juda, trok koning Resin van Aram samen met koning Pekach op naar Jeruzalem. Hij belegerde de stad, maar slaagde er niet in haar in te nemen. De koning en zijn volk sloegen de schrik om het hart en zij beefden als bomen in de storm. De HEER liet de profeet Jesaja tegen Achaz zeggen: "Daarom zal de Heer zelf u een teken geven: de jonge vrouw is zwanger, zij zal spoedig een zoon baren en hem Immanuel noemen." This perek marks the end of the first round of debates between Iyov and his friends. So far we had heard from Elifaz, Bildad and Tzofar on why bad things happen to good people. This is the last response to them in the first round. In the following perakim, another round of debates between Iyov and his friends will be more focused on why good things happen to bad people. As we mentioned in the introduction to Iyov, if only bad things happened to good people, it would show that good people suffer as tikkun for the next world. What's so difficult and confusing for us is good things happening to bad people. There are so many exceptions to the “rules” that reasons can't really be pinned down. This is exactly at the crux of the ensuing debates, because at the end of the day ‘proofs’ can be found for differing opinions. The perek opens with Iyov continuing his response to Tzofar. He explains that man is too insignificant for God’s concern. We are born from woman and our lives are short lived, so why should He care about us? Man has no choice but to sin. In verse 4 Iyov says a more well-known passuk “Mi yetain tahur mitamei lo echad - Who can derive pure from the impure? Not one!” Rashi and Metsudos explain his question. How can God expect man, who comes from a drop of seed from an impure source, to perfect himself? The Medrash Yalkut Shemoni asks,” Who made pure people descend from impure people? Was it not Hashem, the One and Only?” The Medrash then speaks of Avraham and Chizkiyahu who were pure but came from impure stock. Avraham became the Prince of Yisrael despite the fact that his father Terach was a famous idolater. Chizkiyahu’s father was Achaz, whom the Torah describes as evil. Despite this, Chezkiyahu was so great that the Gemarah in Sanhedren 94a says that he could have been Mashiach! This should be a great source of encouragement for us. No matter where we come from or what impure things we did in our lifetimes, we can start over and return to Hashem. In verse 7 until the end of the perek, Iyov denies the possibility of techiyas hamasyim, resurrection of the dead, and denies reward and punishment. This is in response to Tozfar’s last assertion that the essential reward of tzaddikm comes after death, when there will be a more blissful life in Olam Habah. Iyov responds by saying “Ki yeish la’eitz tikva im yekareis? V’od yachalif v’yonakto lo sechdal - Now a tree has hope: If it’s cut down, it may still regenerate, because its offshoots do not cease.” The Malbim explains that Iyov is saying that a tree’s roots allow for re-growth, but for man there’s no hope for self-renewal and life after death. Similarly, in verse 10 he says “But when man dies, he is cut off. A human being expires and then where is he?” Iyov elaborates on his feeling that humans are deprived of hope, one of the most basic emotions to make it through life. Iyov explains that mountains, waters, and the earth all have the possibility of rejuvenation, the ability to be refreshed. When man dies, however, there is no way to become new again.
