In the Mouth of Madness tells the story of John Trent, an insurance investigator tasked with tracking down best-selling horror novelist Sutter Cane. When the investigation leads both Trent and Cane's editor Linda Styles to a presumed fictional town full of strange phenomena, the two begin to question their grip on reality. In the Mouth of Madness was directed by John Carpenter, written by Michael de Luca, and stars Sam Neil, Julie Carmen, and Jurgen Prochnow, and was released on Dec. 10, 1994. This week the ChatFlix team head into darkest Romania circa 1943 to try and control The Keep careful not to awake a horrible demon that is housed within. Michael Mann's 1983 film has more mystery and intrigue surrounding its production and release than the actual plot! Even the Tangerine Dream sound track is mired in controversy... Early performances from Scott Glenn, Ian McKellen, Gabriel Byrne, Alberta Watson and a stand out Jurgen Prochnow battle against the demon and the production.    

Sandwiched between two distinctly British films, the winner of the last listener's vote was John Carpenter's In The Mouth of Madness, a meta-fictional romp that sees insurance scam snoop Sam Neill come face to face with Lovecraftian nightmares from the mind of Jurgen Prochnow.Forming the British bread for this week's show is 1934's Death At Broadcasting House, an adaptation of Val Gielgud's (brother of John) novel which also stars the author. A murder takes place live on air and the titular broadcasting house becomes a den of suspicion as everyone under it's roof becomes a suspect.Then we round things off with the Peter O'Toole starring in the criminally under-seen satire The Ruling Class, which sees paranoid schizophrenic O'Toole assume the mantle of Lord Gurney much to the chagrin of his scheming relatives. Mayhem and hilarity ensues.

Summer blockbusters are always a huge success, right? Well... let's examine that with our month-long series: Summer Flopbusters!   Nathan and Brendan roll on with the worst of summer and, alongside returning guests Steve and Izzy of Everything I Learned from Movies, they discuss the big-budget comic book adaptation Judge Dredd starring Sylvester Stallone. The Cinematic Flushers take on videogame zombies!  When a group of Seattle party goers attend an exclusive rave on a remote island, they find themselves in a fight for survival when the local undead inhabitants turn up to crash the party. What follows are 90 minutes of gratuitous nudity, low budget makeup, videogame quality acting, and actor Jurgen Prochnow essentially doing a lazy retread of his DAS BOOT character. Our special guest this time out are Brandan Haize & Anthony Dynar, hosts of the Low Score show on YouTube, who previously assisted with the flushing of SILENT HILL: REVELATION back in SRC 126.  Low Score essentially does for crappy videogames what we do here in the Restroom.

This week, we ask the question: if you believe something enough, can it become real?  Then we ask "How can mirrors be real if our eyes aren't real?" The Keep was cut so badly by Paramount that Michael Mann hasn't ever revisited the film even for a restored version. There is supposedly a 210 minute cut of the movie too. Everyone loses, especially Scott and Joey.

After a small hiatus we review DUNE! The film, nearly as long as the hiatus even had Lynch say it was a mistake. We review the Alan Smithee cut of the film along with reminiscing about our old days of movie going.

“Don’t mess with mother nature.” An insane scientist resurrects prehistoric alien being using the genetic code from a rare beetle. What could possibly go wrong? Yup, we’re looking at the cult creature feature DNA (1997) starring Mark Dacascos and Jurgen Prochnow. On show #3 Exploding Helicopter supremo Will is joined by Fred Anderson from Schmollywood Babylon and The Human Centipod. They discuss DNA’s uncanny resemblance to Predator, Jurassic Park, Aliens and Apocalypse Now. Not to mention one of the greatest exploding helicopter scenes of all-time. The Adventures of Stella Star or more popularly known as StarCrash is the movie challenge this week. So many things wrong, so much logic thrown out the window. Special Guest Chris Byczkiewicz (an expert on the film) steals the show and won't shut up.
