John Costacos got his start as an entrepreneur in 1984 when he and his brother designed a T-shirt they called “Purple Reign”, a crossover play on the hit song from Prince and the Washington Huskies' dominant defense. The shirts sold like gangbusters, and the Costacos brothers were in business. After selling T-shirts for a few years, John was in his local sports memorabilia store looking for his next business opportunity. Not one to over complicate things, John asked the store owner what the number 1 requested item was, that the store didn't have. Posters of Kenny Easley, the Seattle Seahawks All-Pro Safety, was the immediate answer. Sparked with inspiration and a knack for combining sports and pop-culture, John went to work. He reached out to the Seahawks, pitched the idea to Kenny Easley's manager, and before you know it, he had a photo shoot scheduled with one of his sports idols. He got his 1 “yes”, and they were on their way to success. John and his brother struck gold. They would create and sell more than 30 million posters of some of the most iconic athletes of all time. Willie Mays, Michael Jordan, John Elway, Bo Jackson, Roger Clemens, Larry Bird, and dozens more. If you were a sports fan and a teenager in the 90's you likely had a Costacos brothers poster. Fast forward to 2021, John Costacos has found a new way to breathe life into an old business idea. He has started turning his posters into NFTs and selling the digital rights of his designs. Let's see what he is up to and how these iconic posters will be made into digital collectibles. In this episode John talks about: Working with professional athletes Going for it if you are confident in your idea...even if you lack experience One “Yes” from one person can change your life Telling a story through pop-culture and sports Check out the new designs by John Costacos: https://costacoscollection.com/about https://www.facebook.com/CostacosCollection https://www.instagram.com/costacoscollection/
On the 64th episode of “Great Dane Nation,” Morten is joined by his Pro Football Hall of Fame brother and Seattle Seahawks legend Steve Largent (06:41 – 48:34). But first, he checks in with TommyFreezePops (Tom Carroll) for this week's edition of the “Opening Kick” (01:08 – 05:46). Morten talks about his excitement for Thanksgiving football, and he and FreezePops debate how long is too long to hang on to Turkey Day leftovers. We then move to our interview with Steve Largent, where he discusses a wide range of topics: growing up without his father, and the men in his life that filled that void (07:39); using sports as an escape while growing up (11:24); being the back-up holder, and why it was the hardest thing he had to do in his football career (13:09); why never wore gloves in his career, but definitely would wear gloves if he was playing today (15:45); his philosophy when it came to catching the football (17:02); the most important steps a wide receiver should take to be successful in the NFL (19:55); why receivers prefer to play against man-coverage as opposed to zone (22:10); having the ability to improv on-the-fly if a play goes poorly (24:09); why he chose to go to Tulsa to play college football (25:56); being cut by the Houston Oilers during his first NFL training camp, and how that led him to signing with the brand-new Seattle Seahawks (28:02); the excitement around being a part of a new franchise, both from the fan and player perspective (31:57); what he thinks when he sees a wideout the size of DK Metcalf (34:44); why he thinks Russell Wilson will be a Seattle Seahawk “as long as he wants to be” (25:23); why he went into politics after retiring from football (36:32); why he won't be running for president in 2024 (38:37); why losing a political race hurts harder than losing a big football game (39:39); the parallels between football and politics (40:28); meeting multiple presidents while he served in congress (41:11); and this week's edition of “The Name Game,” featuring Kenny Easley, Jim Mora, Carl Eller, Joe Nash, Franco Harris, Brian Bosworth, Tom Flores, Mike Tice, Dave Krieg and Jim Zorn (41:49).Then we move to this week's edition of “Morten's Fast 5,” where our Hall of Famer makes picks for the five biggest games of the football weekend (50:04 – 57;14). Morten gives his picks for Bears at Lions (51:45), Raiders at Cowboys (53:08), Bills at Saints (53:52), Buccaneers at Colts (54:43), and Titans at Patriots (55:47).Finally, we close things out with “Morten's Game Winner” – a weekly monologue from The Great Dane on his biggest takeaway of the week. This week, Morten shares a special monologue in honor of Thanksgiving, as he brings us inside the mind of a turkey (57:14).

Today we had on Cameron Foster. Foster is the founder and managing director of Reign Sports Management Group who has been called the Jerry Maguire of sports agents. This included limiting the number of clients it represents to offer a select few players the highest level of personal dedication, attention and the time necessary to represent professional athletes. Hidden Yardage: The Story of the 1980 College Football Season
The Florida State Seminoles take on third-ranked Nebraska in Lincoln with a walk-on center and big, bad Ron Simmons. Ohio State defends The Horseshoe against a revenge-minded UCLA Bruins team with nothing to lose while Penn State goes to Columbia, Missouri and comes away with a win and a quarterback. Plus, Colorado is on the wrong end of history as Oklahoma puts up offensive numbers higher than the Rocky Mountains.
With the sad news this week about the passing of Pam Sheppard, we thought we'd do something we haven't done before a re-publish our chat with her from a couple of years ago. Pam, along with her husband Mike set up the first incarnation of the UK Seahawkers in the early 1980's. From small beginnings involving newsletters and pre-dating the current social-media, tech savvy fan base. They ran the club at a time when the sport first hit these UK shores. Fast forward 30 years and in September 2016 Stu and UK Seahawkers president Sean Wilson sat down with Pam to talk over those times as the first lady of the UK Seahawkers, to seeing what she saw in Birmingham on that day in September 2016, with around 30 members of the modern chapter present and all hanging off of her every word on stories involving LA Hotels, her love for Kenny Easley and her wonderment at what she was told of the group now. It was a fun chat with a very warm lady who was clearly blown away by the scene. As a podcast and chapter we pass on our best and condolences to the Sheppard family. RIP Momma UK Hawk
Chris Price covers the Patriots for the Boston Sports Journal. He's live in Atlanta before the game on Sunday. With this being the ninth Super Bowl of the Brady / Belichick era, do Pats fans still appreciate this the way they once did? Do the Rams have the ability to slow down Tom Brady? We open the Softy and Dick Sportsbook with prop bets for the Super Bowl. Football fans in St. Louis probably feel a lot like we did when the Thunder played the NBA Finals, except worse because at least the Thunder had changed their identity. Howard Balzer tells us how fans in STL are handling this. We get the DPI prediction for the game, and an updated prediction for the Dawgs in the tournament. Seahawks legend Kenny Easley joins us, talking about his favorite safeties to watch when he played, his thoughts on the Seahawks secondary, youth football, Paul Allen, and more.

Great story from NFL Films about Minnesota teacher Bob Kaupang who helped get Kenny Easley into NFL HOF. Chemawa Indian School showed me that you should never get up. Big Ten is 7-0 in the bowl games. We need an 8 team CFP playoff.
It's a Seahawks blowout on Sunday Night Football as the Seahawks get the 46-18 win, but it's important to remind ourselves that the Seahawks were tied with 20 minutes left in this game. It wasn't until Russell Wilson showed some emotion getting into the end zone that it seemed to propel the team in the second half. While it's a bit cliché to refer to football as a game of inches, we saw why in this game. Every inch seemed to go Indy's way in the first half, and Seattle ended up getting those same breaks in the second half. Last week, we talked about Justin Coleman's absence since seeing him take over for Jeremy Lane in game one. Now Coleman has earned a new nickname thanks to some help from Jacoby Brissett in reuniting the young corner with his family. This is the week to say CATFISH the Rams. Los Angeles is leading the NFL in points and has been very productive on offense early on this season. With injuries stacking up after last week's game, the guys look at who has been practicing and who will be out. Rees Odhiambo had a scary injury against the Colts and incredibly looks like he's on his way to play in the game against the Rams. Adam points out how this is a different Rams team this year. This will be the first time in many years the Seahawks face this team without Jeff Fisher leading the team. The defense continues to be scary, but the guys talk about one weakness that teams have been exploiting throughout the first quarter of the season this year. In the second half of the show the guys welcome some new members of the flock and Brandan talks about his experience at the game this past Sunday. Brandan calls out a member of the flock who needs to do better, and Adam has words for Cam Newton who embarrassed himself with his comments to a female reporter this week. Better at life honors go out to Jon Ryan's wife for giving us one more reason to root for a Seahawks win and to a section in the stadium who helped accomplish something that Hall of Fame safety Kenny Easley wanted to see this weekend. Hall of Fame offensive lineman Walter Jones joins the show this week to offer his thoughts on the Seahawks game with the Tennessee Titans and the team as the whole through the first few weeks in the season. He talks about FanCom, a new service coming online this weekend to allow fans to interact with NFL greats. Before the interview Adam and Brandan discuss what happened in the game against the Titans, what the team needs to do to get back on track and the reason why our offensive coordinator has difficultly calling a game before the last couple minutes of the first half. For the first time this year, fans had reason to be concerned about the defense, but there is a comparison to last year that should tell us that everything will be fine. Seattle returns home to take on the Indianapolis Colts who defeated the Browns last week. Andrew Luck is out, but their other quarterback seems to have a finger firmly in control of the circle button. Kenny Easley will have his jersey number retired at the game this weekend, and he's asked for fans to bring back the wave for at least one game. Adam makes Brandan promise to have words with any fan not following through on the Hall of Famers wishes. In the second half of the show, Adam's Do Better and Better at Life both have to do with his latest travels on the road. Brandan talks about how political issues mixing with sports can sometimes make political reporters sound out of touch with sports fans, while all the Matt's are 'Better at Life' this week. We're celebrating a full four years of the Sea Hawkers Podcast this week, and we have a former Super Bowl Champion long snapper coming on the show to help celebrate this week. Clint Gresham has a new book coming out called, Becoming: Loving the Process to Wholeness. He talks about some of the events that inspired him to write the book and he's still ready to play if he's called on to return to the team. Outside of the interview, Clint tells us that there's a portion of the book the team wasn't comfortable with helping to promote. Before we get to the interview, the guys talk about their expectations for the 2017 Seattle Seahawks as they go into their first preseason game this weekend against the Los Angeles Chargers. While they both expect the run game to improve, Brandan thinks it will lead to some big numbers in the passing game. While Adam expects the defense to return to form and once again lead the NFL in scoring defense, Brandan expects a former All-Pro player to drop from that level. The guys also get into some of the latest training camp news from this past week. Coach Carroll is really excited by the team's third-round cornerback and their top offensive lineman is getting extra reps this week because of a punch thrown by Frank Clark. Rounding out the news on the top picks from 2017, Malik McDowell is heading home to rest even though he feels fine. Coach Carroll explains that his injury is going to require him to rest and will likely miss the first game of the season and beyond. Kenny Easley was inducted into the Hall of Fame this week, and he has a message for the 12s when he returns to town for the Seahawks second home game this year. A listener asks which players from the Pete Carroll and John Schneider era we can expect to see in the Hall of Fame in the future. The show concludes with a group of office workers who were willing to have chips implanted into their bodies for functions normally handled by a piece of plastic and a do better for the Dallas Cowboys for cutting a player for a case of mistaken identity. Better at life nods go to the Dolphins for solidifying Adam's rooting interest against the team, and to the 12s Helping 12s group for making a special moment happen at the Pro Bowl between a Hall of Famer and a long-time Seahawks super fan. Was Terrell Davis any less deserving to be voted to the Hall of Fame than Earl Campbell? In this encore LOT podcast, NFL historian Andy Rioux joins us to look at the newest members of the Hall of Fame: Kurt Warner, LaDanian Tomlinson, Morten Anderson, Kenny Easley, Terrell Davis & Jason Taylor. Fearless on the field and feared by his opponents, Easley sported a hard-hitting style en route to claiming five trips to the Pro Bowl, four first-team All-Pro selections, the 1981 Defensive Rookie of the Year and the 1984 Defensive Player of the Year. Yet one of the best safeties of the 1980s had gotten little recognition in regards to the Hall of Fame. That changed on February 4. Nearly three decades after his career was curtailed by illness and a mere six months following a triple bypass, Easley got the notice that few football players are privileged to receive. The most important news to Seahawks fans from this past weekend wasn't that a certain quarterback and coach cemented their claim as all-time greats, no, it was that Kenny Easley was voted into the NFL Hall of Fame this weekend. Easley becomes the fourth member of the Seahawks to play his entire career in Seattle and make it to the Hall. Adam and Brandan run down some of the latest Seahawks news from the past week before getting into Sunday's game and how the victory by the Patriots actually makes our lives as Seahawks fans a little bit easier moving forward. By losing a 25-point lead to Genghis Tom, there's now a new offensive coordinator who will be remembered, not for one bad choice, but for a number of bad decisions. They all add up to a loss that will be remembered for many years to come. We also announce the winners of the Sea Hawkers Podcast pick'em league. It came down to a tie after all this weeks. The Patron League champion wasn't as close. To close out the show, a pair of former Big 10 quarterbacks fall into the Do Better segment while a quarterback and a group of zebras are Better at Life. iTunes | Google Play | Stitcher | TuneIn | Facebook | Twitter | RSS Or listen via our free Amazon app, Android app, or iOS app Call or text: 253-235-9041 Email: gohawks@seahawkerspodcast.com Support the show Get in the Flock! Kenny Easley Interview by Talk of Fame Network
A huge show to kick off the 2016 season with training camp underway we're starting to see where some of the major areas of competition will be. Adam and Brandan talk about how cornerback is shaping up to be a fun spot to watch. The team on offensive line has five guys showing up consistently among the starting group. Competition at some of the final defensive line spots may have gotten easier now that Chris Clemons has decided to retire right before camp. The guys talk about what that means for the team. The main thing this show is about is looking at not just our own expectations for the team, but the expectations of fellows fans. Ross Bell of the UK Sea Hawkers and co-host of The Pedestrian Podcast joins the show to talk about his thoughts and how he thinks this will be a breakout season for Cassius Marsh. Clinton Bonner, contributor on seahawkerspodcast.com shares his top picks from his upcoming 3 In, 3 Out blog that focuses on the offseason. His top pick for a breakout year is Frank Clark. With the new Armed and Dangeruss poster hitting the streets, the first Costacos brothers poster in decades, John Costacos joins the show to talk about stories about how his company got started and his memories from poster shoots with Kenny Easley, Steve Largent and The Boz. John talks about how much Russell Wilson influenced the final product of the poster and the feedback, both good and bad, since the poster has launched. Are we about to see a sports poster resurgence? We'll find out. Visit costacosbrothers.com to find out how to get the new Russell Wilson poster. In the final segment of the show we have a big announcement for prizes in the Sea Hawkers Podcast pick'em league and how the guys will be randomly selecting for prizes this year for those who are participating. The guys talk about some things to look for when it comes to offensive line play and what exactly a pancake block is. A top player from the Arizona Cardinals and a member of the national media originally from Washington state need to do better, and Adam talks about why your eyeballs will be thanking the Pittsburgh Steelers as Brandan nominates a top player from the Cardinals as his better at life nominee this week.
