New (lunar) year, new us? The boys ring in the Year of the Snake with a lookbackbabe at a wildly successful season for the boys in Maroon and Black (shoutout Jim Zorn). For the guys, the Commies' playoff run ended with a bit of a dud, a LOT of hot wings, and a fair amount of optimism for next year. Sadly, the guys aren't nearly as bullish on the SupeBowl rematch from hell, the Jaguars new head coach, or Tom Holland's new NA beer. Aside from that, there is a great deal of hand wringing about gym etiquette, mall loitering, and deepseek chaos. And if you're not down with all of that, we got one word for ya…

This week is a RG Show Throwback Edition. My guest is one of the great quarterbacks of all time. 1963 Heisman Trophy Winner from Navy, a two time Super Bowl Champion, and Pro Football Hall of Famer Named by the Sporting News as one of the top 100 Greatest Football Players of all time. He's Roger Staubach the Quarterback of America's Team - the Dallas Cowboys- "Captain America", "Captain Comeback", "Roger The Dodger". He led the Cowboys on 23 game winning 4th quarter drives. In this Throwback interview we talked about what quarterback he would choose to win one game in the last minute, his thoughts on who the best QB's of all-time were, and the Cowboys colossal Super Bowl battles against the Pittsburgh Steelers. When I was in college looking forward to being drafted in the NFL, their were three quarterbacks I paid attention to: Jim Zorn, Steve Bartkowski, and Roger Staubach. I admired Roger's outspoken stand about his faith in God, and the importance of Faith Family and Football. A lifestyle choice that I built the Roman Gabriel Show Around. Enjoy this conversation with a real life hero and role model on and off the field. The great Roger Staubach. As a child, Anthony Calvillo absorbed himself in sport. Whether it be baseball, basketball, track and field or football, sport provided Anthony with an escape from a troubling home environment that was plagued by domestic violence and alcoholism. He grew up in a tough neighborhood about 20-minutes from central Los Angeles and knew that choosing sport over a life of street gang crime was his only way out. The natural gifts and abilities that Anthony possessed allowed him to thrive in sport, giving him the confidence needed to think bigger and have a dream of playing football at the college level. Through the support of important mentors in his life, Anthony knew that playing elite level sport was a way that he could have a better life. The path he took led him to be the starting quarterback at Utah State. It was here at Utah State, where Anthony was mentored by his quarterback coach, Jim Zorn, the well-known left-handed QB who led the Seattle Seahawk offense for 8 seasons in the NFL. The outstanding success he had at Utah State led directly to a career in the CFL. Little did Anthony know it at the time but he would go on to play 20 seasons in the Canadian football League to become the league's all-time leader in passing yardage at 79,816 yards, all-time leader in touchdowns thrown with 455 TD passes, He won Grey Cup championship 3 times and was voted the CFL's most outstanding player 3 times which ties him for second behind Doug Flutie. As you listen to this episode, you will hear firsthand from Anthony, the way he approached the game and the physical and mental preparation he committed himself to throughout his career to improve and get better each season. Anthony admits that at certain points in his career, he had to hold the mirror up to himself in order to identify exactly what he needed to focus on to continue to show up and be the best version of himself possible to help guide and lead the Montreal Alouettes to greatness in the CFL. What defines Anthony the most in my opinion is not the records he holds, his Grey Cup wins, or his MVP awards, but more so his resilient spirit and his ability to overcome hardship and adversity in his life to carve out his own path of greatness. What we don't talk about in this episode is the struggles that both he and his wife battled in overcoming cancer. This experience helped Anthony and his family to recognize what is most important in life- love, connection, and living with authenticity and purpose. The work that Anthony has done raising awareness about domestic violence is hugely important and he's using his voice and platform to shed light on this issue in order to make a difference. It's rare that we can get such a glimpse into the mindset of a champion. So many lessons shared in this episode. I hope you enjoy it.Connect With AnthonyInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/anthonycalvillo13/?hl=enTwitter: https://twitter.com/acalvillo13?lang=en

2/22/20- The Dallas Renegades were able to secure a 24-12 victory over the Seattle Dragons after a breakout performance from 22-year old tight end Donald Parham who had two touchdowns. Mental lapses cost Seattle all game long and eventually dug them into a hole they aren't equipped to get out of at this moment. I'll fill in the color of the game and give you my questions to Jim Zorn, Bob Stoops & Brandon Silvers. The Jeremy Mills Podcast Episode #166. 2/15/20- Seattle got their first win in team history after a 68-yard touchdown throw & then game-sealing pick-six return in front of an XFL record 29,172 fans. I talk about my experience being at the game, in the press box, and in the tunnel meeting Shane McMahon. Now that the NFL season is officially over, the XFL is ready to launch its inaugural season which kicks off February 8th. The Seattle Dragons open their schedule in Washington DC against the Defenders. The new spring football league has been building for this moment over the last two years and commissioner Oliver Luck has helped lead the charge.Luck joins us on the Silvi Knows podcast to talk about why he thinks this second coming of the XFL will have success and longevity. Seattle is leading the way in ticket sales, which is no surprise to Luck (5:00). The commissioner offers his thoughts on the league's rules which vary in ways from traditional NFL rules. The XFL rules were developed to increase kickoff returns (13:00) and speed-up games (15:00). Luck also explains innovative rules introduced for point-after-attempts which won't involve placekickers (16:00). I personally like the XFL's approach to playing overtime periods (18:00).Luck is also a big fan of Dragons head coach and Seahawks great Jim Zorn (25:00).It's all things XFL with commissioner Oliver Luck on this week's Silvi Knows podcast.
This week’s conversation is with Jim Zorn, a former NFL quarterback and coach who currently serves as head coach and general manager of the Seattle Dragons of the second incarnation of the XFL.Jim was the starting quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks during their first eight seasons as a franchise and is a Seattle legend. He’s known as one of the more prolific scrambling quarterbacks of his day and was the second Seahawk ever inducted into the team’s “Ring of Honor” in 1991.Jim also coached in the NFL from 1997 to 2012.In this conversation we discuss what led Jim to football, what he learned about the mental side of the game, and how to move past caring what others think of you.In Jim’s words: “I had to be willing to be embarrassed if I was going to try to get better.”That’s a really cool thought and Jim has so much wisdom and insight to share in this conversation.------Please support our partners! We're able to keep growing and creating content for YOU because of their support. Long before Russell Wilson was leading the Seahawks, Jim Zorn was the very first quarterback of the team back in 1976. He’s had a storied career which has come full circle as he prepares to take on another role as Seattle’s first to ever do it. Jim is the first coach and general manager of the XFL’s Seattle Dragons. On this week's Silvi Knows Podcast, we spend the first 10 minutes talking about all things Dragons, including the new XFL football. Zorn then takes us through his first days playing for the expansion Seattle Seahawks in 1976 under head coach Jack Patera (10:20) and how Patera had to tailor the offense around a scrambling quarterback known by some as "The Lefty Fran Tarkenton" (11:50). Zorn talks about his most memorable scrambles, (12:30) and his improbable rise as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys in 1975 (16:00). Throw in the days of 100-degree temperatures at training camp with no water (25:00), some admittedly cheesy pictures and promotions back in the day (26:30) and Zorn's use of a Slip And Slide to teach quarterbacks how to slide (25:40), and you have this week's Silvi Knows Podcast.
The Seahawks have an opportunity to reach some tie some franchise marks with a win on Sunday over the Cleveland Browns. Win a win, they could go to 5-1 on the season and match a couple of the best starts in franchise history going back to 2003 and 2013. They haven't started 3-0 on the road since 1980 - back when Jim Zorn was quarterback. And Zorn's name comes up a lot in this episode, because today's guest is Jim Harold, host of the Paranormal Podcast and long-time Browns fan. Jim reminds of the days when the Seahawks had the Browns number, even at the start of Seattle's franchise. They hold a 12-6 overall record now, but the last few matchups in Cleveland have not worked out as well as Seahawks fans would hope. Ian's guests this week are former Stanford running back Bryce Love talking about the NFL Draft (13:00) and the guy who is working with Kyler Murray, Jim Zorn (45:20). The guys also talk about Murray's visits to various NFL teams, the "Aaron Rodgers is a bad guy" story in Green Bay and much more - including Tom's story of a questionable experience in the Shea Stadium parking lot.
Kyler Murray didn’t bench. He didn’t jump. He nearly caught a football to the face while sitting down, and, boy, did he throw. And that was really what all 32 teams and nearly 100 credentialed members of the media were in Norman to see. With XFL Seattle head coach Jim Zorn soft tossing him footballs and former Sooners Carson Meier, Jarvis Baxter, Geneo Lewis in routes, you could’ve been forgiven for not recognizing Charleston Rambo catching passes from Murray too. Rambo was allowed to catch passes for Murray at Pro Day because of a rule that allows for five players who will be eligible for next year’s NFL Draft to participate in pro days. As a redshirt freshman, Rambo was eligible and given that opportunity to show his speed, hands and route-running ability to NFL personnel in a way so many do not. After recording three of his eight catches and only touchdown of his career in the Orange Bowl against Alabama in December, Sooner fans pegged Rambo as the heir-apparent to replace former Sooner Marquise Brown at wide receiver.

Also get the latest on a new XFL Football Ops hire, a … Continue reading "Episode 59: Tampa Gets Trestman"
Guess who's back? Hey, it's Juan. We missed you the last couple of weeks. The NFL combine is back. Who's is and who might be drafting QBs? The XFL is back. Can they be sustainable? Will they have turnbuckles in the endzone? Can players power slam refs? I have a nickname for the Seattle team. The XFL is entertainment, but they have hired very professional people such as Jim Zorn. Will it work this time? We touch upon it. The Crusaders are a powerhouse program in the state of Washington, but their HC is stepping down for personal reasons. We talk Eastside Catholic football and we close our show with our story of the week. LeVelle Moton Jr. shows us why we love sports so much. We discuss this and more on this weeks NYSEA.

A lot happened in the world of sports while Softy was gone. One of the big stories locally was Colin Cowherd's claim that Russell Wilson could end up playing football in New York, but that's not going to happen. Softy believes that a lot of his "good guy" image is contrived to some extent, and it stems from his insecurities. Those same insecurities will prevent him from playing in a market that'll be much harder on him, in an unfamiliar environment. The Dawgs keep rolling, and Matisse Thybulle continues to be the standout on defense. We might just be witnessing his star rising high enough to become a first round draft pick this Spring. The XFL is coming to Seattle with a team led by Jim Zorn, but is there room for it here? In Seattle the team won't compete with much of anything locally except maybe Husky basketball (and eventually NHL hockey). There will probably only be one secondary league in a few years though. One of the two (XFL and AAF) will fold, or they'll merge. Are people really criticizing Kaep for taking the money? It's just money that the would have made if he had been playing. If he knew the impact this would have when it started, would he have done it? Well, maybe now that he's made millions form a settlement he still would. We know the M's aren't likely to win the World Series this year, and that's fine. The 2013 Astros lost 110 games, but they built themselves for the future. No one thinks the Mariners will be that bad this year, but they're in a similar overall situation. This year will be a success if at the end we can point to a handful of guys and say "they'll be the ones to take us deep into the playoffs in a year or two." The goal of the Mariners this year is to show us the future of the team.

On this edition of Thursday Night Tailgate our guests are: Red Sox legend Rico Petrocelli, former Patriots Pro Bowl RB Tony Collins, Super Agent Leigh Steinberg and former Seahawks FB Jim Walsh. Rico Petrocelli shares his thoughts on growing up in Brooklyn as a Yankee fan and then signing with the rival Red Sox. Tony Collins weighed in on what's happening between Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and Robert Kraft and if he thinks Brady could wind up his career like Joe Montana, playing his last couple of years somewhere else. Leigh Steinberg talked about some of his new clients that were just drafted including Ronald Jones with the Bucs. We also talked about Pat Mahomes taking over as the starting QB in Kansas City and Paxton Lynch's future in Denver. Jim Walsh shared what it was like being a blue chip RB in high school, being recruited by all of the top colleges, until a misdiagnosed high ankle sprain stopped all the calls. He also talked about how over training caused his body to breakdown and his one season with the Seahawks playing alongside Jim Zorn and Steve Largent.

We are finally at the Grand Daddy of them all, the Pro Bowl! Okay maybe it's the Super Bowl. But the guys do end talking about the Pro Bowl and Taylor Swift, despite their best intentions (3:00). After getting through their weekly Presidential bit, and random QB rumors, they get to the good stuff, talking about Jim Zorn and Left-handed QB's(16:11). Prop bets seem to interest these two more than the Super Bowl itself, but they do eventually make all the picks(22:45).
The Argos GM Hunt, is underway scouring the NFL for prospects. Spencer Zimmerman: Assistant General Manager controlling the Draft and Free Agency with the Argos. These names are not necessarily prospective GMs, but also men knowledgeball and working in the NFL and could shed light on prospective GM prospects: Mark Dominik, ESPN analyst, Lionel Vital, Jason Garrett, Darryl Drake, Gunther Cunningham, Mike McCoy, Joe Dalessandris, Jim Zorn, Pat Perles, Chris Palmer, Bob Wylie and I could go on.
The Seahawks come away with their third loss of the season in a truly ugly game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The offense only manages to score a field goal thanks to a pass interference call on the Bucs and the defense adds a safety. Not only were there injuries on the offensive line, there was a shakeup at right tackle just one series into the game and the three rookies struggled all day to keep up with a dominating defensive line. Adam and Brandan talk about just what went wrong and a stat line from Russell Wilson that we rarely see. Just because the Carolina Panthers are 4-7 coming into this game doesn't mean they can't give the Seahawks a game for Sunday Night Football. The Panthers are doing well in some key areas on offense, but their defense has struggled mightily on the road this season. It feels like this game is going to come down to whether or not the offensive line is going to look more like it did against the Philadelphia Eagles a couple weeks ago or if their struggles from last week continue. Tune in to the second half of the show to hear about the Montana Sea Hawkers fundraising efforts and how you can get a chance at winning a football autographed by Steve Largent and Jim Zorn while also helping out Montana charities. The Seattle Seahawks get a 27-17 win over the New York Jets as the team heads into their bye week. Considering the team's dominance at MetLife, is it time to start referring to the stadium as CenturyLink east? And how gratifying was it to see, just days after an article saying how a one-legged Wilson was as useful as a right handed Jim Zorn, Russell Wilson deliver one of the best performances of his career. Just barely into his fifth season, Wilson is standing alone among quarterbacks who came before him. The guys explain. Wilson isn't the only one who gets a ton of credit for the win. The guys talk about how the Seahawks first rounder picked right back up where he left off in the preseason and with Justin Britt's pancake blocks, and Glowinski having a solid performance are giving this interior offensive line an attitude we haven't seen from a Seahawks offensive line in recent memory. Jimmy Graham and Doug Baldwin continue to catch nearly everything thrown their way while the defense is as dominant as ever. As the team heads into the bye week, the guys look back at what the team has done coming out of the bye week as well as their records going into each bye in the Carroll era. The expectation for the Atlanta Falcons is that they'll get shut down by a Denver defense in Week 5, but we'll reserve additional thoughts until next week after seeing what they can do against the Broncos. Do better nods go out to Carolina Panthers Mike Tolbert and New York Giants Odell Beckham Jr. while a rookie Seahawks receiver gets his recognition in Better at Life. A Ryder Cup moment closes the show, because it truly was something a person would never see happen in any other professional sporting event.
