Jim Powers is one of the most prolific directors of our time who's always been known for being controversial and once told Forbes he wants to be the Warren Buffett of porno. Growing up in the Valley in the 1970s, Jim was influenced by comic books, horror movies, fan magazines, and skateboarding, and in the 1980s, all he wanted to do was be a punk rocker and skateboarder. After graduating from Cal State Northridge, he became a stockbroker, a DVD distributor, and a part-time pornographer. With 50 performer credits and thousands of scenes as a director, Jim won Director of the Year (Body of Work) and Best Director - Non-Feature from the AVN Awards and was inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame in 2005. He's also scored countless AVN Awards nominations for Best Director, Best Director – Feature, Director of the Year: Individual Project, Best Directing Portfolio – Specialty, Best Director – Parody, Director of the Year (Body of Work), Director - Non-Feature, and Best Videography, as well as Gonzo Director of the Year from the XBIZ Awards, Best Producer Nominee from the TEAs, Best Director – Parody from XRCOs, and Top BDSM Release from AEBN's VOD Awards. During the Black Flag era, Jim sported a mohawk and toured in punk rock bands. He still plays bass in the punk rock band Killroy at high-end venues like Roxy, Viper Room, and Knitting Factory. From the ultra creepy Bowler Hat Man in Netflix's "The Haunting of Hill House" to Ezra, the renowned Hitchhiking Ghost in Disney's "The Haunted Mansion," actor Fedor Steer knows a lot about things that go bump in the night. Originally Dutch-Canadian, Steer credits a chance encounter with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and his family on a cruise ship for piquing his interest in acting. Steadily working his way up the ranks from roles in independent film to national exposure, you can catch Fedor in a number of television shows, including the aforementioned "Hill House," and "Bloodline," plus Fox's "Sleepy Hollow" and "The Gifted," as well as "Graceland," "America's Most Wanted," "Your Worst Nightmare," and films such as "Killroy was Here" and "American Animals." He also has a recurring role on "Evil" on Paramount Plus. Fedor has a diverse range of life experiences. He has been a navigation officer in the Canadian Coast Guard and on cruise ships, a schoolteacher, a swim coach and a triathlete. He has lived in several countries overseas, including Thailand and the UAE. He also owns and operates a software company that builds database applications for K-12 schools. Mr. Steer recorded this episode of JONES.SHOW before July 14, 2023, the start of the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Episode 110 ‘TRAILER PARK’ ‘Truth Seekers’ - Our first trailer off the park this week is one we can all get behind as we see everybody’s favourite British duo Nick Frost and Simon Pegg teaming up once again! In this Amazon original 8 episode series, we see the British gents as Paranormal Investigators, going across the country to film for their web series. Searching for ghosts and ghostly activity, they appear to have stumbled across something much bigger that has them in way over their heads. With the help of Samson Kayo, Emma D’Arcy, and the legend Malcolm McDowell, can they take down those friendly ghosts and something much more sinister?! Peering onto Amazon Prime like a chubby Brit politely saying hello to ghosts, soon!! ‘Terrifier 2’ (Teaser) - Heeeeeeeee’s Back! That’s right ladies and gentlemen, roll up, roll up because Art the Clown is back for more Bloody Mayhem then we ever anticipated! Following on from the events of the first film, an early ’20s female and her younger brother are discussing the murderous events of the first film and Lil Timmy (don’t know if that’s his real name, but it fits!) is concerned because they never found his body. Being a teaser trailer there isn’t much more to go on with the rest but we do know that Lil Miss Early 20’s goes to a costume party where she runs into the TERRIFYING (get it) Clown and there is buckets of blood to follow! What a work of Art! HA! Spraying onto I assume Netflix like many a bloody squib, later this year! ‘Sputnik’ - With our third trailer this week we find a potential Russian Gem here and what I believe to potentially be Dylan’s Double Wide! Potentially even my double-wide just because of the name. ‘Sputnik’. It’s just fun to say! The lone survivor of a failed spaceship mission has returned back to the motherland but the military is holding him in extreme quarantine for reasons he doesn’t understand. But those reasons are justified as there is a bloody alien/parasite inside of him. One woman is tasked with trying to separate the two but can she and the military pull it off before this otherworldly creature reigns chaos upon mother Russia?! Jabbing into a limited theatrical US release like a needle to the neck, 14th of August! ‘Rogue’ - Looks like Megan Fox has taken the Bruce Willis approach to filmmaking, crashing her way into the competitive world of On Demand Action Flicks! Here we find Fox as the leader of a bunch of mercenaries tasked with rescuing the governor’s daughter from some Human Trafficking people out in the middle of… Africa? I assume Africa because while they’re on the run back to safety they stop at an abandoned house where they realising it isn’t just the Traffickers they need to worry about, there’s also a rogue Lioness on the loose! Aw snap! What a pickle they have gotten themselves into! But the perfectly ‘make-uped’ Fox will surely take everyone down! Hoo-Rahing onto on-demand like a man about to be mauled by a lion, August 28th! Killroy Was Here - Okay, so what we have here is the first trailer for Kevin Smiths' next film, Killroy Was Here. Just released at ‘ComicCon at Home’, this trailer is as intriguing as it is confusing. The story tells of the legend of a murderous man with a lust for blood named Killroy and a small town that has kept his legend alive. It then tells of a priest coming to help two troubled youths and then propositioning them. It then tells of a man live-streaming his own death by an alligator mauling him. It then tells of a young girl needing a heart transplant and raising money for that. And finally of a man in a strange rubber mask murdering everyone, who I think is Killroy but honestly, I don’t know. I just don’t know. Seems a little low budget and confusing, but hey, it’s a Kevin Smith film with Harley Quinn Smith, Jason Mewes, and Chris Jericho. So I’ll give it a fucking crack! Slicing onto On Demand like a blade through the main characters' face, spoiling that she’s going to die, later this year! DIDN'T MAKE THE CUT - ‘Lovecraft Country’, ‘Wizards’, ‘YASSS OR PASSS - July 30th - (Glendale, Kotara & Tuggerah) ‘Unhinged’ - Good old Rusty Crowe leads the way in this one as a man with a smidge of Road Rage! All he wants is an apology, that’s not so bad, right? ‘The Secret: Dare to Dream’ - Here comes Katie Holmes and Josh Lucas in this romantic drama about a widowed woman and her kids meeting a dude who’s so lovely but…. he has a secret. Shhhhh! ‘23 Walks’ - A beautiful romantic film about an elderly couple whose love grows over the course of 23 walks with their dogs… Woah. Intense. IndieFilmopolis is a podacast centring around indie films and independent film making, hosted by "Philm Maker" Philip Pugh. In this episode Phil talks to filmmaker Brandon Agan who's made a very successful transition into Production Design, racking up an impressive set of credits in a relatively short period time, having worked on projects for the likes of Missy Elliott, Lion's Gate Films and indie favourite Kevin Smith on his upcoming horror anthology "Killroy Was Here". Aside from his work with Kevin Smith, Brandon also talks about the fun challenges of production design such as recreating 1930's India in Florida, his short film work, the ups & downs of sourcing funding and going the extra (several hundred) mile(s) to get work and make contacts in the field of production design. This week, we return to the deep and largely untapped well of short films for an easy-breezy summertime celebration of friendship, podcasting, and weird videos! It's the perfect antidote to your July 4th hangover (combined with fluids, rest, and federally-regulated painkillers).Up first! It's the surprisingly violent first installment of the 1944 serialized drama version of Captain America, in which the Captain is for some reason a District Attorney in search of a vibrator. It's old-timey and weird and full of surprises that we chat all about. Next up! We check in with our old friend Saul Bass (director of Phase IV) and see what all the late sixties Oscar buzz was about in regards to his award-winning 1968 short documentary Why Man Creates. It's a somewhat ramshackle, fairly charming, and wholly unique little collection of brief segments loosely structured around creativity. Plus it's got that signature George Lucas visual style! Finally! It's a third short: Styx: Killroy Was Here, (aka Styx: Caught in the Act) the 1983 concept-concert-film that nearly killed the treasured rock & roll outfit Styx. Famed musical lunatic Dennis Deyoung masterminded this semi-racist Blade Runner-esque futuretale of the death of rock music, featuring the talents of the director of Poltergeist II and the director of the Making of Thriller, and some kind of allegory about domestic automobile manufacturing. How ridiculous is it? Very. All this plus a sweaty-journalism fuck-style theorem, an on-scene report from the filming locations of Jack Frost, a surprising return for Face to Face chat, Kevin Moss is Mister Roboto (he's skype-y this week), a look at major league pitching deficiencies in London, more or less Morlocks, partially drunken musings on the current state of affairs in the Blaxploitation world, Parker references Marvel movies, a Pupstar update, throwing shade at Babar the Elephant, shout out to Bosco sticks, our weekly news plus Blu-ray Picks and even more! We have the chiptune pop artist who describes himself as the poor nerd's Justin Timberlake... Professor Shyguy! (@professorshyguy) You may have heard his voice if watched the Toonami version Dragon Ball Super, as he sang the English version of Starring Star. He's also experimented with "chip opera" with his last album Fragmentation and has done some amazing things combining chiptune with pop music, rock n roll, and some pretty sweet dance moves if you get to see him live. Kent (@fistofthemfk) and Shyguy talk about those things, plus expanding to audiences beyond nerd music, karaoke with Killroy of The Protomen, original music vs covers, and playing freakin' tabletop games. Professor Shyguy will be performing at Orlando Nerd Fest's Fantoku event on November 5th. You can hear Shyguy's music at professorshyguy.bandcamp.com. "The Meltdown" theme by RoboRob
In GBA 141 we get better acquainted with Christmas (again). It's the 2013 Christmas Special: A festive curiosity once again full of intimacy, doubt, shared history, music & cheer. This year we join the GBA house band and A Room Full of Friends to sing some Christmas songs and talk some Christmas talk. This year's Christmas special is designed to be: "Like an episode of Killroy where the issue being discussed is Christmas. With songs." As part of the house band I am joined by: Asia - (GBA not yet aired) Sam - https://soundcloud.com/gettingbetteracquainted/gba-99-sam George - https://soundcloud.com/gettingbetteracquainted/gba-6-george https://soundcloud.com/gettingbetteracquainted/gba-106-jack-and-george With special guest Harv who shared a song and recorded the room: https://twitter.com/SteveHSoundtech The rest of the room full of friends are: Jen: https://soundcloud.com/gettingbetteracquainted/sets/the-jen-episodes/ Dad: https://soundcloud.com/gettingbetteracquainted/sets/the-dad-episodes/ Tony: https://soundcloud.com/gettingbetteracquainted/gba-35-tony Liz: https://soundcloud.com/gettingbetteracquainted/gba-4-liz Chris: https://soundcloud.com/gettingbetteracquainted/gba-25-chris Nina: https://soundcloud.com/gettingbetteracquainted/gba-132-nina Natti: https://soundcloud.com/gettingbetteracquainted/gba-98-natti Alex: https://soundcloud.com/gettingbetteracquainted/gba-80-alex Charities plugged at the end of the episode are: Crisis at Christmas: http://www.crisis.org.uk/pages/christmas.html Core Arts: http://www.corearts.co.uk/ Arts Emergency: http://www.arts-emergency.org/ St Mungos: http://www.mungos.org/ Self Determination: http://developmentforafrica.org/selfdetermination.shtml http://www.bbc.co.uk/ethics/charity/against_1.shtml Red and Black social club: http://www.soundthealarm.org.uk/red-black-social-club-septembe/ GBC Legal: http://greenandblackcross.org/legal Previous incarnations of A Room Full of Friends: https://soundcloud.com/gettingbetteracquainted/gba-live-2-a-room-full-of https://soundcloud.com/gettingbetteracquainted/sets/gba100-1 For other GBA takes on Christmas: The first GBA Christmas special focused on how I learned to love (albeit a highly neurotic and ambiguous love) the season despite its past crimes against my childhood. Here it is: https://soundcloud.com/gettingbetteracquainted/gba-christmas-special The second was a longform true story of the trip I took to Amsterdam with my mum in 2005. Warning it could be described as NSFW: https://soundcloud.com/gettingbetteracquainted/gba-91-getting-better I made this for Christmas this year: https://soundcloud.com/the-dave/time-to-be-nice I made this for a Christmas a few years back: Ghosts of... youtu.be/XqCKfOwA9vE This is a true story I told at Spark London that focuses on an incident that is touched on as back story in this episode: http://www.mixcloud.com/sparklondon/two-cathedrals-david-pickering/ Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year!
