We're learning how to understand the language of the body and why listening to your nervous system is essential for building resilience.I'm joined by Nkem Ndefo, founder of Lumos Transforms and creator of The Resilience Toolkit (a trauma-informed framework that weaves somatic awareness, compassion, and social justice into practical, accessible tools for healing). Nkem is a licensed nurse-midwife, somatic practitioner, and educator known for her trauma-informed approach to healing and resilience.Together, we explore how stress and trauma shape the way we move through the world, what happens when your nervous system becomes overloaded, and how to recognize when you're reaching your limits. We also talk through practical ways to come back into balance (especially in moments of chaos) by learning to work WITH your body instead of AGAINST it.✨ If you've been feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in survival mode, this episode is for you - Nkem also gifts us with simple, practical tools from her Resilience Toolkit to support grounding & self-regulation.

Welcome back to Pizza Quest!Charlotte, NC is starting to generate more and more national buzz as a culinary destination city. Top Chef is in pre-production here in preparation for its next season, with Charlotte as the host city, and some of the local chefs and restaurants are getting recognition by The James Beard and other prestigious organizations. And, on the pizza front, a couple new pizzerias are getting a lot of national recognition and, in the case of our guests on this episode, international acclaim. Bird Pizzeria a tough reservation to get these days, with a 60 day wait list and a location that is slightly off the beaten path, but the pizzas are uniquely their own -- a combination of East Coast as well as Chicago and Cleveland influence. In addition, due to the magic of TikTok and Instagram, the Kale Caesar Salad has gone viral and now people from as far away as New Zealand are filming themselves doing knock-off versions. Who knew?As a Caesar Salad junkie myself (I sometimes flirt with the idea of doing a companion website called Caesar Salad Quest), I had to get over there to find out what all the hoopla was about. My wife, Susan, and met up with Blaine and Honey Parker (who you will meet in a future episode here if you aren't already a subscriber to Blaine's newsletter, Free the Pizza), who had driven 600 miles just to experience Bird Pizzeria as part of their own pizza quest (like I said, the buzz has extended beyond the city walls), and we all shared the (yes) amazing Kale Caesar as well as two signature pizzas, The Plain (their take on a Margherita) and also the White, with half pepperoni and half sausage and a few other embellishments. You'll hear more about the salad and the pizzas during this podcast. In this episode, Nkem and Kerrel share their journey with us, and tell us how they ended up landing in Charlotte and developing their menu. Their story, like many others we've showcased here, is unconventional, loaded with unexpected moments of struggle and grace that somehow have serendipitous, happy endings. Sometimes you throw out the playbook and just follow your gut. Those are the places that often end up becoming legends in the making.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

British Sikh engineer, Navjot Sawhney gave up his lucrative career to go and work in India, to use his skills to help solve problems for rural communities. While there, he became fascinated with the problems his neighbour, Divya, was facing while handwashing clothes, sometimes for up to three hours a day.Broadcaster and journalist Nkem Ifejika finds out how Nav promised to design a hand crank, off-grid washing machine for his neighbour, to help her avoid the sore joints, aching limbs, and irritated skin she got from her daily wash. Within two years of coming up with the idea, Nav had set up his own company, The Washing Machine Project, and trialled his first machine in a refugee camp in Iraq. From that first trip, over five years ago, the project has now provided nearly a thousand machines, free to the users in poorer communities and refugee camps, in eleven countries around the world. Nkem hears how seven years on, Nav fulfilled his promise to return to India with a machine for his neighbour, Divya. The Washing Machine Project is now partnered with the Whirlpool Foundation, the social corporate responsibility arm of the company that designed the first electric domestic machine over a hundred years ago, and together they hope to impact 150,000 people.Nkem asks if a project like this can really make a difference, given that roughly five billion people still wash their clothes by hand.Producer: Alex Strangwayes-Booth A CTVC productionImage: Navjot Sawhney sitting between two hand crank, off grid washing machines. Zdarec palec! Dnes pro vás máme lehce sestříhaný záznam našeho tzv. live vystoupení v Troji, kde jsme probírali radosti i strasti života s hostem z Blanenska, Jirkou Jelínkem, bavičem to, jehož doprovází pověst Donutila mileniálů.

"From Grief to Creativity: Nkem Chukwumerije on Embodied Expression and Transformation"
What an honor to speak with Nkem Ndefo today! I wanted to post this right away, because we are speaking about the election, and Nkem was very helpful in helping me take a step back and see a bigger picture of the election. I found it very profound when Nkem spoke about their vision for liberation of all. Their organization's vision is: "rooted in justice and flourishing in joy." We spoke about the important question we can ask ourselves "where is my political home?" As we spoke about politics and healing, our conversation turned to how we all play roles (or could have a role) in social change. Here was a beautiful intersection with IFS! Nkem spoke about some of the ways that they have helped facilitate change on large scales within hospitals, and also schools! To find out more about Nkem, you can go to: www.lumostransforms.com I hope this episode can bring you a little peace and hope.
