Chef Kyle Julius, owner of Chef at Large Catering, has always been passionate about the connection between nature and food. “I’ve always been an outdoorsman, foraging for mushrooms and wild onions,” he says. Growing up in a hunting family, he learned the value of respecting food and utilizing everything. This respect is reflected in his work, where seasonality plays a key role in menu planning. Julius’ commitment to local, seasonal ingredients aligns with the growing movement of farm commerce. He praises local farms like Vitruvian Farms for offering fresh, local products. “They’re trying to bring everything to the area, from fresh produce to canned goods,” he notes. This initiative helps caterers like him access high-quality ingredients, while also supporting local farmers. Chef at Large Catering specializes in off-site and farm-to-table catering. “I focus on cooking in the field, so clients enjoy the freshest meals,” Julius says. On this episode of the show, Courtney Dowdall and Roy Kasten join the show to discuss the problems with local radio station KDHX in St. Louis. First up Roy and Courtney sit in with Mark Bland and Jason Kull to discuss the problems that have been happening in St. Louis Community Radio Station KDHX 88.1. Since 2019 it seems things have not been going swimmingly at the station. Many VOLUNTEER DJ's and station members have been fired or left after dealing with the head of the station Kelly Wells and Board head Gary Pierson over decision being made on behalf the volunteers without their consent. Mark has his own story of merit that shows making bad decisions has been part of the station for years, but this new decision seems to be attacking the very fabric of what makes the station work and tick! Next up Super tuesday 2024 came and went with a whimper. As expected, Trump continues to make other criminals who haven't done their crimes yet, feel good about themselves. Noted that Nikki Haley dropped out of the race after winning Vermont (which should be a red flag for Trump) but not before refusing to endorse him...and going as far as to label him a loser. Finally, what are some of your bad habits that you think others notice? Well a study was done to tell us about some eating and food habits that turn others off a lot! Slurping your soup....eating off someone elses plate? Plus remember those old infomercials and the exercise equipment they were always hawking to everyone? Well there is a story that popped up and sent Mark and Jason down memory lane...come join them for the ride!
Jon opens the third hour talking about Walz, Dean Phillips and the 2024 race for the White House then we are joined in studio by conservative online opinionator AK Kamara for the remainder of the show to discuss a variety of topics.

How about a Kansas State defensive end from Lee's Summit as the Chiefs' first selection in the NFL Draft? Adding to the local angle, the draft will take place at Kansas City's Union Station. Felix Anudike-Uzomah, the Big 12 defensive player of the year for the Wildcats, is the Chiefs' first-round pick, projected by Star beat writer Herbie Teope. Mock drafts are the definition of inexact science, but over the past three seasons, Teope has called the Chiefs' drafting of running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (2020), Nick Bolton (2021) and George Karlaftis (2022) in one of his multiple mock drafts. Discussing the draft also provides and opportunity to look at Chiefs needs, and we do that as well. Story links: Who will the Chlefs select in the 2023 NFL Draft? We are vacationing in Blue Ridge, Georgia this week so instead of our normal format we are featuring an extended segment of The Local Flavor. It might seem odd to talk about Georgia in a podcast about living in Sarasota, Florida but proximity to places and activities you love is a big part of choosing where you live. Shelley's customers often have specific reasons for living in Sarasota that involve how close it is to visiting Tampa, Orlando, Miami along with our great state parks! The one thing that Florida lacks is scenic mountain views, which a lot of new residents miss after moving to The Sunshine State. This week, I'm talking with Christina Larson and Rob Hook, Owners of Basic Batch Donuts, a specialty donut shop located in Milford, MA. After graduating from Johnson & Wales University in Denver, CO, with a baking and pastry degree and working in the restaurant industry for over fifteen years, Christina knew she wanted to open her own bakery. After being laid off due to Covid, opening up a donut shop came to fruition. What started as a setback quickly turned into an opportunity as Christina and her fiance, Rob, worked tirelessly together to open up Basic Batch Donuts, despite the pandemic. Now, one year later, Rob and Christina share what it was like starting their company, plans for the future, and why their team feels more like family than employees. When the two of them aren't making donuts in the early morning hours, you can often find them spending time with their dog Myla. Topics Discussed: Early Successes and Challenges faced within the first year of business #1 Misconception around the Donut & Pastry Industry How growing too big, too quickly can cheapen the quality of your product Why you miss opportunities when you're focused on other people's opinions Connect with Basic Batch Donuts: Website: https://basicbatchdonuts.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Basic-Batch-Donuts-105361991238415/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/basicbatchdonuts/ Relevant Articles: MassLive - ‘Love and Patience' Two Key Ingredients for Basic Batch Donuts in Milford: https://www.masslive.com/news/2021/05/love-and-patience-two-key-ingredients-for-basic-batch-donuts-in-milford.html Contact Basic Batch Donuts: Address: 206 E Main St, Milford, MA 01757 Email: info@basicbatchdonuts.com Connect with Mark Condon: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BostonsBestPodcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bostonsbest_podcast/ About Boston's Best: “Highlighting successful businesses in and around Boston, MA.” Go behind the scenes with financial planner Mark Condon as he asks industry-leading experts to talk about their businesses throughout the state of Massachusetts.
