Are you stuck in a cycle of disappointing relationships, repeating the same mistakes? In this episode of the True Love Knots Podcast, Maria is joined by dating coach Jonathon Aslay, who shares how over 100 internet dates and a tough divorce led him to a powerful realization: change starts with self-awareness. Jonathan dives into the importance of confronting fears, insecurities, and limiting beliefs to break free from unhealthy patterns. He challenges listeners to commit to true partnership, have honest conversations early, and surround themselves with supportive, grounded confidants. His message is clear: take responsibility for your emotional growth to create the lasting, fulfilling connections you deserve. Standout Quotes: “Self-awareness is the understanding of your fears, insecurities, negative patterns, limiting beliefs, and judgments towards others and yourself. It involves healing in all of those areas.” “Humans who come to the table with self-awareness can solve any problem. But if you go in with weak emotional maturity and poor relationship skills, it can create a very contentious dynamic.” “Your desires, capacity, and vision for a relationship must exceed your fears, pains, hurts, and, most importantly, your differences with another human being.” Key Takeaways: Identify your fears, insecurities, and limiting beliefs around relationships. Commit to personal development and healing these areas to become more self-aware. Before meeting someone in person, have intentional conversations to get clarity on their relationship goals and emotional maturity. Don't assume compatibility based on chemistry alone. Define your vision for a committed, teamwork-oriented relationship. Communicate this clearly in your dating profile and conversations with potential partners. Cultivate a circle of competent confidants who can provide healthy, grown-up perspectives on your relationships, rather than just validating your desires. Reflect on your past relationship patterns. How can you break unhealthy cycles and approach new connections with emotional maturity and a commitment to teamwork? There's always something going on in pop culture or the news cycle relating to love and relationships. And for the fourth episode of the month, I usually pick a topic from one or the other, analyze it, and share what I think it can mean for you. Today on the podcast, you'll hear me draw from both the news and pop culture wells. The New York Times recently published a piece on couples' sleeping situations, and Chelsea Handler made a choice that Tucker Carlson and company don't like very much. And both of them touch on some pretty controversial matters that illustrate a shift in attitudes from more traditional ways of doing things. So in this episode of the Love Life Connection, you'll learn about the NYT article claims regarding the bedroom situation for couples and why I disagree with a couple of their conclusions. You'll also discover the underlying reason for Carlson's angry reaction to Handler and why it should actually thrill you. 8:30 - What the New York Times article claims and what me, my husband, and some of my friends do 10:41 - The “pink flag” expert consensus and one reason why I don't buy it 21:10 - Why the NYT's second argument feels way off, too 26:09 - Tucker Carlson's reaction to a recent Chelsea Handler appearance in the media 33:24 - What the Handler vs. Carlson exchange really shows on a macro level 37:21 - What Carlson's reaction means for you and why it's a good sign that people like him feel threatened I hope you enjoyed this episode! Find me on Instagram or email me with your feedback. I look forward to hearing from you! After you listen to Chelsea Handler's Child-Free Choice and Couples Opting for Separate Bedroom: Secret to Long-Lasting Love Or the Beginning Of the End?, here are your next steps: Read the New York Times article and watch Childfree Millennial's video. Listen to the January episode on lonely single men. With my impactful introductory coaching session, you'll walk away knowing exactly what's blocking you in love. An opera singer with an impressively long and distinguished career, Cheryl Barker has sung some of the key roles in the repertoire, perhaps most famously playing Mimi in Baz Luhrmann's production of Puccini's La Bohème, her incredible performances of Tosca, and creating the role of Sarah Miles in Jake Heggie's The End of the Affair, in Houston. She and her husband, baritone Peter Coleman-Wright will be joining the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs under artistic director Brett Weymark for Glorious Puccini in the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House on October 29. In this conversation, Cheryl speaks about her love of Puccini, shares some wonderful tales from her impressive career, and fills us in about Pacific Opera, the emerging artists program for young opera singers of which she is co-artist director along with Peter Coleman-Wright.

In today's episode we consider the skills that are needed to develop long lasting, fulfilling relationships. When people are asked about their wishes for a good relationship they usually talk about being supported, loved and feeling content and happy. However, often it is not clear what skills are required to create these fulfilling relationships. We are not taught in school how to go about creating strong relationships. We are taught in fairy tales that a prince or princess arrives and everything is hunky dory. But what happens next once you've got your prince or princess? In this episode we talk about the skills that we have identified as crucial for successful relationships: - Self-awareness: generating insight into understanding what makes you think, feel and behave in a particular way and why - Empathy: understanding your partner and their way of thinking, feeling and behaving. What makes your partner tick and why? -Mutuality: understanding how you impact on each other and why. Learning how to communicate more effectively with each other and to be present for each other - Sustainability: developing more capacity for intimacy and vulnerability. Learning to grow and develop together as a couple

This is an interview with the academic Stuart Sovatsky, with his astounding 50 years' experience studying Psychology, Counseling and Classical Tantra. An unusual voice in the world of Tantra, Stuart is a great believer in building long-term committed relationships in which to practice Tantra. He also looks at the importance of awareness of fertility at the core of Tantra...the seed of life. And how this awareness can bring a deep profound element to our eroticism. Beyond mere reproduction, can our fertility point us home to the Source of life? Stuart also explains his theory of the "second puberty". The first one being in our teens when desire awakens, but the second one being more of a spiritual awakening when the kundalini energy is activated. This changes our sexuality from a genital-focused act to a full body experience, with the higher centers included. Beyond pleasure, we can taste bliss. WHEN WE BEGIN PRACTICING SACRED INTIMACY, WE START HAVING A HIGHER STANDARD FOR ALL OF OUR OTHER RELATIONSHIPS — HOW DO WE SHOW UP IN NON-INTIMATE RELATIONSHIPS WHEN THEY HAVE NO INTEREST IN “SHOWING UP”? QUESTION: This question is related to non-intimate relationships. I am finding challenges there. How do I apply my practice to the plutonic relationships in my life, like friends and family? I feel like those are still dynamics I do not trust fully. 1B. TRUSTING THE MOMENT OVER IDEAS OF “GOOD PRACTICE” AND BEING INFORMED BY THE WISDOM OF YOUR BODY IN RELATIONSHIP QUESTION: Continuation of previous question… could add another layer here if we want… something like… How do I practice with all relationships in my life and decide whether or not it’s correct for me to stay in relationship with some of these people (ie. friends and family) or if I should walk away? 2A. YOUR SOLO PRACTICE IS A GIFT TO BOTH YOU AND YOUR MAN—FIND OUT WHY QUESTION: My husband is going through a really rough patch. He lost his father last year, and has felt enormous pressure from work. He feels distant and unavailable. What can I be doing to continue to deepening my practice during this time? 2B. WHEN YOU’RE IN FULL SURRENDER, YOU’RE IN FOLLOW—WHEN YOU’RE IN SOLO PRACTICE, YOU NEED TO LEAD YOURSELF, SO IT’S NATURAL THERE WILL BE A TRANSITIONARY MOMENT WHEN YOU’RE MAN ISN’T AROUND QUESTION: When my man leaves, it always takes me a day or two to get back on track. It’s like the ground beneath my feet falls out and I feel lost. How do I handle moments like these? 3. HONORING THE TRUTH OF YOUR HEART INCLUDES SETTING BOUNDARIES AND TAKING SPACE QUESTION: I notice the more I practice, the more difficult it becomes to spend time with certain friends and family members. Why does this happen and what can I do about it? 4. WORKING WITH DEITIES, SERPENTS & THE PITFALLS OF ATTACHMENT QUESTION: I am having an amazing experience in my solo practice with a serpent deity. Are there other deities I can be working with in my spiritual practice? 5A. WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO IT, YOU’RE GOING TO ATTRACT CERTAIN PEOPLE BECAUSE THAT IS NATURALLY WHAT YOU ARE… WE CAN USE PRACTICE TO CHANGE OR TRANSFORM THIS FACT, OR WE CAN EMBRACE IT FOR WHAT IT IS QUESTION: I went on a date and I was surprised because I felt like I was in Alpha, but he responded as being quite attracted to me. 5B. PRACTICE - TRUSTING THE HEART AND BODY OVER THE MIND QUESTION: I have been using the practices you’ve been teaching me, lots of men are coming into my life, and I’m conflicted on choosing what I’m really looking for. Can you provide some insight here? 5C. CHOOSING THE GUY WHO IS WILLING TO FEEL YOU FULLY QUESTION: I’m having a hard time picking between a couple of men who are interested in me. One appears to be the guy I should like, but the other is the one who makes my heart flutter. What should I do? 6. DRAWING A LINE IN THE SAND AROUND YOUR HEART—AND STICKING TO IT QUESTION: As you know, I recently broke up with a man I was seeing. I told him I needed a clear answer from him on whether or not he wanted to be together—I gave him as much time as my heart could handle, but he never responded. I have been practicing and it feels like more things are being revealed to me about my role in all of this, and I am thinking of reaching back out to him. I want to write him a letter and let him know how I am feeling. What should I do? 7. YOUR PRACTICE SHOULDN’T BE A STRATEGY TO GET HIM BACK QUESTION: Londin, in your book you talk about creating space in the relationship when you felt Justin wasn’t 100% in. And then you describe how that space was actually what was needed for Justin to return. Will this work for me?
