Shan sits down with four women to talk about the low libido nobody prepares you for: the 26-year-old who kept saying "I'm supposed to be in my prime" and quietly decided she was broken, the married woman delighting in her season of stillness, and Shan's own reframe that low libido is only a dysfunction if it comes with an F word (frustrating). ” She was a quiet rebel in class, a diamond sifter in a gravel pitCaroline Aherne left Manchester with a comedic legacy that went on to redefine British TV.One of the many people she inspired is Dave Scott, the poet and author who you might know better as Argh Kid. Dave's latest book ‘Rebel in Disguise', is a love letter to Caroline's work as a writer, actress and comedian.Host Lisa Morton recorded this conversation at the We Built This City afternoon tea at Cloud 23 in The Manchester Deansgate Hotel, to celebrate the launch of Dave's book.Dave has built a career out of finding the poetry in the lives of everyday Mancunians; from the phrases, the humour and the heart that makes this city region different. So it's no surprise that Caroline and The Royle Family had a huge impact on him. As you'll hear him say, watching the show felt just like watching his own family; something many people who grew up in Greater Manchester will resonate with.In this episode, you'll hear why Dave believes Caroline was Greater Manchester's greatest artist; why he wanted to make her the focus of his next book, and you'll also hear readings from the book that beautifully encapsulate Caroline's genius.--------------------Your host, Lisa Morton, started PR company Roland Dransfield in 1996, one month after the fateful IRA bomb that tore apart the city centre. From that point, the business and its team members have been involved in helping to support the creation of Modern Manchester – across regeneration, business, charity, leisure and hospitality, sport and culture. To celebrate the 30 years that Roland Dransfield has spent creating these bonds, Lisa is gathering together some of her Greater Mancunian ‘family' and will be exploring how they have created their own purposeful relationships with the best place in the world.Connect with Dave and buy his bookVia Instagram Get the bookConnect with Lisa and Roland Dransfield:Via our websiteOn InstagramOn X Thanks to our partners on this episode of We Built This City, Car Finance 247. Episode DescriptionNo woman becomes who she is alone. In this deeply personal episode of Black Women Diaries Podcast, I'm dedicating this conversation to my village—the family, friends, mentors, community, and every person who has poured love, wisdom, accountability, encouragement, and grace into my life.We often celebrate the destination without acknowledging the people who helped us survive the journey. This episode is my thank-you letter to those who stood beside me through grief, growth, setbacks, victories, and becoming. We'll talk about the importance of community, why asking for help is strength—not weakness—and how the people who believe in us often shape the women we're still becoming. So whether you're reflecting on your own village or realizing it's time to become someone else's, this episode is a reminder that none of us are meant to do life alone.❤️ If this episode touched you, share it with someone who has been part of your village, and don't forget to leave a rating and review—it helps Black Women Diaries reach even more listeners.Follow Black Women Diaries on all platforms:

In honor of World Brain Day on July 22, this Think Thursday episode celebrates the extraordinary organ behind every thought, memory, feeling, and behavior.Molly explores how the brain functions as:A prediction system that uses past experience to anticipate what happens nextA learning system that changes through attention, repetition, and experienceA protection system that often relies on familiar strategies to reduce discomfortA relationship system shaped by connection, conversation, purpose, and belongingYou'll also learn why automatic responses are not permanent, how neuroplasticity supports meaningful behavior change, and why curiosity is more useful than self-criticism when your brain returns to an old pattern.Your brain is not fixed, and it is not working against you. It is alive, adaptable, protective, connected, and still becoming.Key takeaway: An automatic response is not your destiny. It is something your brain has rehearsed—and with practice, it can learn something new. ★ Support this podcast ★

Naomi Sharon is an R&B singer-songwriter, the first woman signed to Drake's OVO Sound label, and the voice behind Obsidian — an album she wrote, she says, while stuck in a loop she didn't yet have a name for. Her new single is "No Sleep in Paradise," and it turns out to be a more accurate self-portrait than she realized when she wrote it. This conversation starts with that song title and follows it somewhere much harder. Naomi opens up about ROCD (Relationship OCD) — a form of OCD rooted, for her, in her parents' divorce at 12, the lie she found out about, and the trust that cracked in a way that never fully sealed. She describes what it actually does inside a relationship: the reassurance-seeking that exhausts even a loving partner, the rumination that colonizes every quiet moment, the specific experience of standing onstage mid-performance and suddenly being flooded with thoughts about whether he still loves her. And then the harder question underneath all of it — whether what she's feeling is her intuition or her fear, and what it costs not to be able to tell the difference. This one is for anyone who has ever been told to just let it go and discovered that wasn't something they could do. Want to learn more about OCD? Tanerélle is a singer-songwriter whose voice sits somewhere between neo-soul and quiet revelation, with singles like feels like love and Nothing Without You building a devoted audience around the specific ache of loving someone more than they love you back. In this episode, she and Shan trace the song feels like love from its origin — a late-night phone call with an ex that felt like home until Tanerélle realized she was the only one feeling it — through the larger question of what it means to be someone's muse instead of their person, and why those two things can feel identical from the inside until they don't. They also talk about what OCD and rumination actually do inside a relationship when safety isn't there, the slow way gender roles and social conditioning closed the door on the free version of herself she showed up as early on, and the specific kind of loneliness that comes from being the one who always reaches out first. This one is for anyone who has ever loved out loud in a situation that didn't love them back the same way and wondered whether that still counted as real. --- Thanks to Stasis for sponsoring this video. In this episode of The Leader's Notebook (Ep. 321), I take you through Paul's deeply personal letters to the Thessalonians and the powerful hope found in Christ's return. Beginning in Acts 17 and continuing through 1 Thessalonians 4–5, we discover the heart of a spiritual father who was forced to leave a young church but never stopped caring for them. His message is as relevant today as it was then: Jesus is coming again, the dead in Christ will rise, and believers have a living hope that reaches beyond the grave. In a world filled with fear, uncertainty, and endless speculation about the future, Scripture calls us to something better—faith, readiness, and confidence in God's promises. This message offers comfort for those grieving the loss of loved ones, encouragement for weary believers, and a renewed vision of the glorious reunion awaiting all who belong to Christ. We are children of light, and our hope is anchored in the certainty that our Savior will return.– Dr. Mark Rutland Chapters (00:00:03) - The Leaders Notebook(00:00:26) - Mark Rutland Announces Travis Rutland's New Podcast(00:01:58) - 1 Thessalonians(00:05:17) - 1 Thessalonians 4, Preventing the Dead(00:07:26) - Deception in the deep forest(00:14:42) - Paul's letters to the Thessalonians(00:20:49) - The Resurrection of the Dead and the Rapture of the Church(00:26:31) - The Day of the Lord Will Come(00:33:28) - The Message of Christ's Love Letter(00:35:00) - American Young People: Death and the Christian Life

After attending Love Letter from the Afterlife at Red Rocks—a tribute to the late poet Andrea Gibson featuring their final performance alongside the Colorado Symphony—Buffy returns to one simple phrase from Andrea's work: try softer. In this episode, she explores what it means to meet life with less force and more presence. Through stories and reflection, Buffy considers how softening can become a daily practice for the body, heart, and spirit. What changes when you stop pushing against your circumstances? What does softness look like when it meets your loss and grief? If you'd like to learn more about Andrea Gibson and Megan Falley's story, you can watch the documentary Come See Me in the Good Light on HBO.
Planning your homeschool year can easily become another task you feel like you have to carry all on your own. But what if the very first step isn't choosing curriculum or making a schedule? What if it's simply sitting with the Lord. In this week's short episode, I'm sharing why the posture of receptivity changes everything when it comes to planning your homeschool and your family life. Before we make our plans, we have to make room for God's. I'll also share a personal "love letter" that came from time spent with Jesus in Adoration, which I believe is a message of encouragement for every Catholic homeschool mom who has ever felt the weight of trying to get it all right, and that it's all riding on your shoulders. If you've been carrying fears about your children's future, doubting yourself, or feeling overwhelmed by the responsibility of homeschooling, I pray these words remind you that you were never meant to carry this alone. Grab your earbuds and accept an invitation to pray more than you plan, trust more than you strive, and let the Lord build what He is calling your family to become in: A Love Letter to the Mother Planning Her Homeschool Year. Plan Your Year with the Lord Here!

There are three forms of intimacy every relationship runs on — and most couples only know two of them. Emotional intimacy, physical intimacy, and the one nobody has named yet: social intimacy, which is the degree to which your partner actively represents, claims, and advocates for you in the rooms and relationships that matter. Not just privately, when it's easy, but publicly, when it costs something. This episode is Shan and Jared Brady sitting down to have that conversation for real — because as a public-figure couple in an open relationship where the woman is the financial lead, social intimacy isn't abstract for them, it's load-bearing. They work through what it actually looks like when your partner stops bringing you up, why that quietly erodes a relationship from the outside in, and what the research says about how much your partner's behavior in public spaces shapes your career, your network, and your sense of self. If you've ever felt invisible in someone else's life while being completely loved in theirs, this one is for you. Ericka Hart (she/they) is a sex educator, author, and breast cancer survivor who has spent their career arguing that pleasure isn't a luxury — it's a right that's been systematically withheld from Black, brown, queer, and disabled bodies. In this conversation, Erica and Shan trace the throughline from childhood activism that was never a choice, to being expelled from Peace Corps for loving who they loved, to the night they disclosed a double mastectomy mid-hookup and got the response that became their whole love story: "titties, I don't care." They talk about going topless at Afropunk and getting turned into "inspiration porn" instead of being seen as desirable, and about the gap between the two: being praised for surviving versus being wanted for who you actually are. Erica shares what it actually means to write a book, Nasty Work, for the most marginalized people, because when you center the people the world has held least, everybody gets to see themselves. This is a conversation about reclaiming a body the world has always tried to act on instead of let you inhabit, and what it costs, and what it feels like, to do that work on your own terms, even when it's still in progress.
