YUH 184 is the compelling documentary "Reimagining Safety" by documentarian Matthew Solomon. By interviewing scholars, activists and civilians involved in BLM and central figures in the defund movement, Matthew presents a case for how current cultural and poltical factors have produced a police force that has lost its' focus on many levels. Progressive alternatives to modern policing are offered in the second half of the film that emphasize reform over punishment and place more responsibility on citizens to utilize community ouand activism to make the world a safer place. "Defund the Police" is onne of the most controversial issues of our time. However you fall on the topic, this film does a great job of not only making a case, but providing solutions. #BLM #defundthepolice #rodneyking #sandrabland #matthewsolomon #reimaginingsafety #jodyarmour YUH Theme by David T and Mojo 3 https://www.amazon.com/Insanity-Sobriety-Blues-David-Mojo3/dp/B091N8BJNB Reimagining Safety Official: https://www.reimaginingsafetymovie.com/ Reimagining Safety on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Reimagining-Safety-George-Gasc%C3%B3n/dp/B0CVFN291P Yeah Uh Huh Social Stuff: Yeah Uh Huh on TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@yeahuhhuhpod Yeah Uh Huh on Facebook https://facebook.com/YeahUhHuhPod Yeah Uh Huh on Twitter https://twitter.com/YeahUhHuhPod Yeah Uh Huh on Spotify https://open.spotify.com/show/7pS9l716ljEQLeMMxwihoS?si=27bd15fb26ed46aa Yeah Uh Huh on Apple Podcasts https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/yeah-uh-huh/id1565097611

Harry Houdini's story is the classic American tale of an immigrant who from impoverished beginnings made it big in the United States. Perhaps it is this early hand to mouth existence in a large family which explains his extraordinary drive to succeed. Captivated by magic shows, he began performing tricks on stage with one of his brothers, and then with his wife. Houdini's decision to make escape the focus of his act was well-timed, chiming with the public mood for sensational trickery. Whether it was escaping from handcuffs, a straitjacket or from a box filled with water, Houdini wowed audiences with his seemingly death-defying performance. So what motivated this complex man who spent a lifetime ‘deluding' the public with his illusions, and how did he reconcile that with his campaign against the Spiritualist movement which he regarded as a racket? Rajan Datar charts the life and career of the legendary Houdini, with writer and biographer Adam Begley, whose book Houdini: The Elusive American was published in 2020; Dr Matthew Solomon, Associate Professor at the University of Michigan and the author of Disappearing Tricks: Silent Film, Houdini, and the New Magic of the Twentieth Century; and Dr Katharina Rein from the University of Potsdam in Germany, who's published widely on stage magic in the 19th and early 20th centuries, including Techniques of Illusion which will be available in 2022. Produced by Fiona Clampin for the BBC World Service. (Photo: Harry Houdini chained up ready to jump into Charles River, Boston, Massachusetts in 1906. Credit: Bettmann via Getty Images)

One of our greatest barriers to personal and professional connection and partnership, is the lack of space for created empathy. Traditional trainings for a "safe" workplace may inform us of "what not to do," but fail because they do not have us develop a mindset of inclusion. Additionally, we have no real training in how to have successful relationships, so we bounce around, making mistake after mistake, and never quite get it right. My programs solve this problem by developing a beingness that is focused on partnership and community for organizations, couples and individuals. We are in relationship to everyone and everything; When we approach relationship from the perspective of partnership, things tend to work much better. https://www.linkedin.com/in/coachwithmatthewsolomon/

This week’s episode is centered around relationships - surprise! Okay, while it’s not really a surprise that we are talking about relationships on a podcast about divorce, we do talk about a phrase that is a hot button topic and one I haven’t explored in the show much yet: toxic masculinity. I searched far and wide for the perfect person to have a conversation about this topic and I found him. I am pleased to introduce you to Matthew Solomon, a relationship and empowerment coach, specializing in intimacy and communication and the author of "Man School: Relating with Women in the #MeToo Era." By the way, everyone needs to get this book. It’s amazing. In this episode Matthew and I share our views on the definition of toxic masculinity. And then we dive deep into the waters of relationships, intimacy, connection, and communication and how to make it all work, by doing the work. And I know, it’s painful to live without connection. If this episode does one thing, I hope it helps you realize that connection in a relationship is possible. Show Highlights Matthew’s definition of toxic masculinity and my perspective on the term (plus why I think it needs a “rebrand”) (7:22) The importance of adjusting the way you communicate so others can receive it (11:14) Women are not men, we have different experiences and when we acknowledge those differences we can better communicate (19:20) Sex and relationships: we’re not taught about sex and intimacy; it’s an important part of relationships, yet we don’t know how to be intimate or settle in with each other (25:32) Why consent is HOT (33:37) Chivalry is honoring womanhood (38:14) The four steps of listening and listening beyond the words (49:25) The future of marriage, relationships, and communication as described by Matthew (53:12) Learn More About Matthew: Matthew Solomon is "The Coach for the Modern Soul," a relationship and empowerment coach, specializing in intimacy and communication. "MAN SCHOOL - Relating to women in the #metoo era". Author Matthew Solomon joins host Katerina Cozias on the talk show LA40 this week. Known as "The Coach for the Modern Soul", his work is a product of 20+ years of exploring himself, relationships and how humans work. Having put all of these techniques to use throughout his life as an award-winning filmmaker, author and father of 3, tune in as Matthew discusses excerpts of his latest book "MAN SCHOOL - Relating to women in the #metoo era". As the #metoo movement emerged online, Matthew observed women unifying, vocalizing and pushing back against centuries of misogyny. At the same time, he noticed that men, largely unaware of the issues at hand, became defensive and adversarial; lacking the understanding and tool necessary to provide the safe space that women are hungry for and deserve.
