The dark side of nature. Apocalypse Video is back and we've got a brand new theme song, baby! That is…we have two brand new theme songs. It seems we have a little controversy on our hands. Mike claims that Ryan has stolen his new theme song, while Ryan - in a surprising and out of nowhere southern accent - claims he merely took an “unrealized” theme song and improved upon it. Thankfully, the answer to this debacle may lie in today's episode, the 1996 box office hit Twister, in which two groups of storm chasers battle for tornado research dominance, with a stolen concept at the route of their hatred for each other. Will we be able to answer who's theme song is better by the end of the episode? Who cares?! We've got cows!!! I'm your host, Dave, and joining me as we blast some Van Halen and avoid getting impaled in the face with flying debris are fellow cinephiles and storm chasers Mike and Ryan. Topics of discussion in this episode include how Twister perfectly masks the sound of the audience munching on popcorn; we break down the completely unfair and shitty treatment of Jami Gertz's “Dr. Melissa Reeves” by nearly every character in the film; and finally, we compare the climax's F-5 tornado to Michael Myers as it mercilessly stalks and kills its victims. Be sure to rate, review and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. You can also Follow Us on Twitter, Like Us on Facebook, or shoot us an email at apocalypsevideopod@gmail.com. What was your favorite blockbuster of 1996? Was it Twister or was it Independence Day? Drop us a line and let us know. That'll do it for us, folks. We'll see you this Friday for the obligatory Friday the 13th episode. Until then, keep watching the skies and be sure to keep your tornado senses sharpened.

Hey Fandom! Welcome back for another episode of Trash Talk Roundtable with your Challenge Fandom Podcast hosts Rick, Corrina, Josh and Tony. This week we are here to break down the upcoming cast for MTV's The Challenge season 39 titled "Battle For A New Champion". We kick off by breaking down the men's cast starting with Asaf Goren, Callum Izzard, Chauncey Palmer, Ciarran Stott, Corey Lay, Ed Eason, Emanuel Neagu, Horacio Gutierrez JR, Hughie Maughan, James Lock, Jay Starrett and Kyland Young. We also discuss whether or not we consider this Asaf's rookie season, how we think the international Challengers will fair against the most experienced veteran players of this game, do we think Chauncey can break away from S38 and make a name for himself, who we think is going to receive the "rookie treatment" this season, some male Challengers we would have rather seen on this season, casting for entertainment VS casting for competition, and of course who we are most and least excited to see back on our MTV screens. Next we break down the women on the cast beginning with Berna Canbeldek, "Big T" Fazakerley, Colleen Schneider, Jessica Brody, JuJuy Jimenez, Michele Fitzgerald, Melissa Reeves, Moriah Jadea, Nurys Mateo, Olivia Kaiser, Ravyn, Rochelle and Zara Zoffany. We discuss why we are worried about Big T, what makes us excited to see people like Jessica Brody on the cast, why we really didn't want the less experienced international players on a battle for a new champion season, why Michele could be set up well or terrible depending on how she approaches the game, where we think a particular fan favorite actually lacks in the game, and did Zara pick up any tips and tricks from Wes on World Championship besides *always do the pre-puzzle*?! Lastly we discuss why we think the cast is so small, what we think the chances are for a redemption house, make our finalist and winner predictions, discuss the mercenaries that will be joining the game at some point this season and does Kaz deserve to be there as a mercenary? Do the special effects still hold up? Does Helen Hunt weigh more than an 18-wheeler? Does Bill Paxton weigh more than barn? And why is Dr. Melissa Reeves slumming it with Billy? (Rock Hill, S.C.) -- A shooting in February at Clinton College, which is roughly two miles from Winthrop University, has drawn attention to the issues of campus safety and school violence. Feb. 16, two male teenagers, one who was 17 and the other who was 18, were shot at the Clinton College gym in Rock Hill around 1 a.m. WSOC-TV reported the gym was rented for a birthday party by a group that was not affiliated with the school. Neither victim was a student at Clinton College and both were expected to be okay. There were no fatalities and no Clinton College students, faculty or staff were hurt during the shooting, the school said. At Winthrop, the incident generated a discussion about campus safety and school violence. “Continuing to educate students staff on being vigilant of your surroundings, listen to your gut if it’s telling you something doesn’t feel right, and how do you get help if there is a concern,” said Melissa Reeves, associate professor of psychology at Winthrop, who was a guest on the Palmetto Report podcast.
"School psychologists need to be brought in at the front end...what is the trauma history of some of the staff and the students? We need to know this," says school psychologist Melissa Reeves.Want to support 1A? Give to your local public radio station and subscribe to this podcast. Have questions? Find us on Twitter @1A.

"I think [the larger companies] should be forced to take more risks.” - Melissa Reeves “Nurture the audacious. The works that you remember are works with audacity.” - Patricia Cornelius And... we're back! Fleur and Jana are talking to theatre-makers from Australia and abroad, with Kieran behind the mixing desk. Our second season will tackle the topic of responsibility. ‘Responsibility’ is a word that comes up a lot in art but its meaning is as multifaceted as the artists who use. It can mean ‘duty of care’ to your fellow practitioners, ‘responsibility’ to deliver the product the subscribers are paying for or not traumatising an audience who did not consent to be traumatised. But it can also mean responsibility to be brave. Brave enough to tell the hard stories. To press on wounds that need pressing. Sometimes the old adage that art ‘holds a mirror up to society’ is far to passive. Sometimes that mirror needs smashing. In this, the second season of Audio Stage, we are talking ‘responsibility in art’. Over the course of the next ten weeks we will be in dialogue with various practitioners, programmers and thinkers about what ‘responsibility’ means to them and how we remain ethical in art. Our first guests are playwrights Patricia Cornelius and Melissa Reeves. We talk about responsibility in playwrighting: the words we use, the stories we tell, the people we stage, and the playwrights we give money to. “I’ve never believed the bullshit about how audiences don’t like risk. They actually really do. I’ve seen it. I’ve been in enough audiences that are asleep and I’ve seen them wake up when there is something that unsettles them... I think an audience is dying to be offended.” - Patricia Cornelius Discussed in this episode: Andrew Bovell; academic research and ethics procedures; Aboriginal and white theatre-makers; rulebooks for making ethical art: Y/N?; telling real-life stories: 'how did you know my first wife was a hair-dresser?'; Diane Brimble; identifying with characters; the whitest story ever told about Kenya; Steven Sewell; why white women are so much more concerned about their responsibilities than white men; why a lion is always played by a black actor; Jana's students at the VCA; Myall Creek Massacre; George Brandis; and Melbourne Workers' Theatre. "I remember reading this fantastic poem by this Aboriginal woman, and it said: 'If you're writing this because you want to help me, you know, just fuck off. But if you're writing this because your liberation is bound up in my liberation, then, you know, go ahead, come with me'. And it was a beautiful invitation." - Melissa Reeves Stay tuned: we have more exciting and intellectually rigorous conversations to come.
