Elsie the cat has a set of 120 buttons programmed with words. She uses them to lie, swear, apologise, express grief and frustration and love to her human, the author Mary Robinette Kowal, who talks about what's involved in learning to communicate via language buttons with companion animals. And animal behaviour expert Zazie Todd explains how animals might be interacting with human language. This is the first half of a two-parter: in the next episode, some talking dogs - and their humans - come to visit, and we hear about the kinds of things you find out about what your animal friend is really thinking, and how it changes the ways you communicate with other humans too. Rachel Bilson and Melinda Clarke are joined by Kathleen York, who played Renee Wheeler on The OC. It's already that time: Chrismukkah! Yet this year, it's “The Chrismukkah That Almost Wasn't” (S2 Ep6). Kathleen's story can be inspirational for aspiring actors; listen and hear how Kathleen found her success. And, she shares her experience playing a masseuse on “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” (which stars Larry David, Rachel's celebrity crush!). They dive into the Julie and Jimmy sex scene, making Melinda blush and “plead the Bilson.” The hosts surmise how Renee explained to Lindsay where her dad was. And, they share memories from filming those giant kitchen scenes with the entire cast in them. Of course, this episode notes all of the Chrismukkah charm: Seth's job wheel, the yamaclaus, and the band Guster's "Carol of the Meows" that plays throughout! The Chrismukkah That Almost Wasn't Synopsis: The whole gang is invited to Chrismukkah at the Cohens' house, but Seth's favorite holiday is nearly ruined as secrets are revealed that will change the Cohen family forever. This week Matthew & Rizzle spoke with the one, the only, the indefatigable Sandy Meows, leader of the Power WIP Girls on the WIP Crew as well as community builder & manager at OG projects like Token Smart. Last Thursday at the WIP Meetup, Sandy emerged out of an extended break from crypto. The conversation kicks off digging into the background behind her choice to unplug from the metaverse, her focus on mental and physical wellbeing during that break, reflecting on the habits and approach to work that prompted her to take a break, why she decided to return, and what she plans on focusing on now that she is back and ready to attach the space anew. This episode is a must listen for anyone battling against burnout and the added mental burden of a down market. Keep your head up. Take charge of your physical and mental wellbeing. If you are looking for some inspiration then this podcast is for you for I was honoured to be able to chat to the incredible duo who make up Catastical Meows! Mom Erin and Lil Chris are experts in fostering and have gained experience and knowledge over the past 3 years. Everything seems normal with this right.... not really when you consider that Lil Chris is only 13 years old! Already at his young age he is leading the way for becoming one of the greats of the cat world and an advocate for foster and kitten care!Lil Chris has loved cats all through his childhood but when his mom Erin realised he had a deeper passion and wanted to learn more she totally supported it. Allowing Chris to attend numerous seminars in preparation for what was ahead really paved the way. A foster seminar ignited his drive and he was ready. The pair teamed with local rescues and the rest they say is history.Lil Chris is always looking to expand and grow his knowledge with everything cat related and shared stories about his own personal journey which include his cat Mouse who is an FIP survivor. Mouse inspired Chris to write a book and who knows what other books are planned for the future! It is testament to Erin that Chris conducts himself in such a humble, respectful, kind and caring way and her support and encouragement has opened so many doors already for Chris in his young life. She really is a mom in a million!! It will be interesting to watch this young man over the next 5+ years and see how his cat journey develops.Follow them here on Instagram Cat Meow (@catasticalmeows) • Instagram photos and videosIt was such a pleasure to chat to both of them!Happy Listening!Fiona XSupport the show
We're all still pretty exhausted from our work in Ukraine. But that hasn't slowed down any of the threat actors, unfortunately. So we enlisted special guest Nick Biasini to dive into the BlackCat ransomware group to discuss how it potentially is or isn't connected to BlackMatter/DarkSide. These ransomware-as-a-service groups surprisingly run like regular companies, and even have the same problems with employee retention! Plus, Matt and Liz provide updates on their work in helping to defend Ukrainian networks and organizations. Other talking points: - How to pronounce the company “Nike” - Surprisingly safe-for-work videos on Omegle - Avoiding burnout when everything is on fire
