Chris Armas has played and coached in the biggest leagues of professional soccer, but his love for the game began as a child in Brentwood, N.Y.—Ralph and Ray's hometown. In this episode, the Brentwood boys get together to talk about Chris's career and the transition from pro-player to coach.Chris was named an NCAA Division II First Team All-American his senior year of college. At the pro level, he was named an USISL All-Star while playing for Long Island, winning the league championship. While he played for the Chicago Fire, the team won their first MLS Championship and he was named to the MLS Best XI four consecutive times. In this episode of the Designated Players Podcast, the guys are back to perform the long awaited best xi tournament! Quick disclaimer before jumping into this episode, we had some technical difficulties while recording so we apologize if any of the audio came out weird, but we tried to clean it up as best as we could. The tournament of all tournaments to determine the best team of all time. We could only figure out a way to perform the tournament on FIFA, and as we all know, FIFA comes with 100% accuracy guaranteed. So the winner of the tournament will be undoubtedly crowned best of MLS. While we work our way through the tournament and setup, we make sure to fill the dead air with conversation regarding the MLS season so far, and structure of MLS, so definitely take a listen even if you're not too interested in the tournament!Take a listen to hear quite possibly the most confusing setup to a tournament ever! Don't worry if you get lost, just know that everything is being done with the utmost accuracy. We simulate a season with each team's best xi and then take the top 8 finishers from each conference and play out the MLS cup playoffs. Since this process was timely, we made sure to fill the in-between time with a recap of the first quarter of the MLS season. We talked everything from most surprising team and player to the Inter Miami disaster. In this episode, we connected with Nat Borchers. Nat grew up in Pueblo, Colorado and went to the University of Denver. He graduated with a Bachelor's and Master's of Science in Accounting. Nat played professional soccer for 14 seasons. He won an MLS Cup with Real Salt Lake in 2009 and with the Portland Timbers in 2015. He was selected to the MLS Best XI in 2010. In 2017, Nat retired from professional soccer. He is currently a broadcaster for the Portland Timbers and the owner of NDB Real Estate, an Oregon-based real estate investment company.
