Send us a textIn this episode, we dive into practical tools to access positive emotions and build emotional resilience—your ability to adapt to adversity and stay aligned with the life you want to create. Learn how emotions serve as a compass, guiding you toward meaningful actions, and discover actionable strategies to manage negative emotions, elicit positive ones, and break the cycles of self-sabotage.Drawing from research on the brain's approach and avoidance systems, we unpack how your emotional responses shape your behaviors and beliefs. This episode is packed with insights to help you develop a positive emotional toolkit that empowers you to navigate challenges, regulate stress, and move toward thriving.Key Takeaways:Emotions Are a Compass: Emotions guide us toward what matters most in life. Instead of resisting them, use them to identify areas needing action or reflection.Dual Role of the Brain: The right hemisphere activates avoidance (fear and fight-or-flight), while the left hemisphere focuses on approach (reward and curiosity). Recognizing these systems helps us navigate emotions more effectively.Self-Sabotage Explained: Your brain aligns behaviors with your core beliefs. Limiting beliefs often lead to self-sabotage because they feel "safe" and familiar.Emotional Toolkit: Build resilience by incorporating daily practices like humor, savoring positive memories, music, and acts of service.Positive Emotions Expand Capacity: Research shows that positive emotions enhance problem-solving, connection, and resilience (Fredrickson, 2001).Practical Tools:Humor and Laughter: Engage with content or people that make you laugh to release feel-good chemicals.Savoring Memories: Recall joyful experiences and visualize them vividly to access positive emotions.Create a “Happy Button”: Associate a physical touchpoint with positive emotions to activate them in stressful moments.Use Music and Nature: Play uplifting songs or spend time in nature to calm your nervous system and elicit joy.Acts of Kindness: Helping others not only benefits them but also boosts your own well-being.Chapters:00:00 Introduction to Emotional Resilience02:34 Why Emotions Matter in Resilience07:21 The Dual Role of the Brain in Emotional Responses12:48 How Self-Sabotage Aligns with Core Beliefs17:15 Tools for Eliciting Positive Emotions21:40 The Role of Humor, Smiling, and Laughing26:05 Savoring Memories and Creating a “Happy Button”30:12 MusI am grateful you are here,JerrySetup Your FREE Coaching Call:Schedule Call1:1 Transformational Coaching:Learn More Here! How is your relationship with yourself going?Get your free-self assessment guidePick up your copy of my book:Returning: Meditations and Reflections on Self-Love and HealingWatch On YoutubeWebsite:www.jerryhenderson.orgGet Your Free Weekly Healing Tips!Instagram: @jerryahendersonLinkedin: www.linkedin.com/in/jerryahenderson Disclaimer

Show Notes: Episode with Ade Hoffman – Nature Play All Day Introduction Welcome to this week's episode of the Big Hearted Podcast! I'm thrilled to chat with Ade Hoffman from Nature Play All Day in Maine, USA. Ade is a trailblazing educator who has taken the leap to create an outdoor, nature-based kindergarten that operates almost entirely outside, regardless of the weather. We delve into Ade's unique journey, the challenges she faced, and the incredible impact her programme has on children. Episode Highlights: Going Beyond Traditional Education Ade shares her journey of moving from a traditional kindergarten setting in Dallas, Texas, to founding Nature Play All Day in Maine. Frustrated with conventional education models that weren't child-centred or developmentally appropriate, Ade felt compelled to create a space where children could learn and grow through nature. Creating an Outdoor, Off-Grid Kindergarten We discuss how Ade's programme is fully off-grid, powered by solar energy, and possibly the first licensed off-grid nature-based childcare in Maine. The kindergarten immerses children in nature all year round, encouraging them to explore, play, and learn in a natural environment, even in the snow! Navigating Regulations and Building Relationships Ade talks about the process of getting her unique programme licensed and the importance of building positive relationships with licensing officials. By being proactive and maintaining open communication, she managed to create a supportive environment for her innovative approach. The Benefits of Nature-Based Play We explore the immense benefits of outdoor play and nature-based education. Ade explains how being in nature helps children build resilience, develop critical thinking skills, and foster a deep connection with the environment. She shares heartwarming stories of how children thrive when given the freedom to explore and learn outdoors. Challenges and Rewards Ade opens up about the challenges she has faced, from finding the right property to ensuring safety in an outdoor setting. Despite these hurdles, the joy and fulfilment she finds in seeing children grow and develop in such a unique environment make it all worthwhile. Future Plans and Exciting Developments I'm excited to visit Ade's programme later this year to capture some amazing footage and share the beauty of her space with all of you. Ade and I also discuss the importance of having creative flexibility in education and the joy of stepping outside the norm to do what's best for children. This conversation with Ade was truly inspiring and a reminder of the power of nature in education. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did. Don't forget to leave us a review and share your thoughts—we love hearing from our community!

Youtube versin https://youtu.be/SNdrmEqhNSM https://nisfornatureplay.com Jena, Landscape architect. Nature play expert. Artist-Builder. Garden fanatic. Mom of twins I've dedicated my decades-long career to designing children's nature play areas, sensory gardens, learning landscapes, and custom playscapes. My philosophy has stayed strong - children of all abilities and diversities, from early childhood to teens, need daily access to nature-based environments so they may blossom. I've spent almost my entire career designing children's nature-based play, learning, and therapeutic environments. In 2004, after a series of “A-HA moments”, I began researching neurodiversities, like autism and sensory processing disorders, because I wanted to make sure the spaces I helped create supported all kids and how each are “wired” a little (or a lot) differently. As my understanding of the neurodiverse experience grew, I realized just how important children's sensory experiences are in play, learning, and connection. For me, nature play is one of the most powerful tools we have to regulate children's nervous systems so they can play to their greatest ability, learn to their greatest potential, and connect in the deepest, most meaningful way they can.

Ever wonder how people get all the house things done AND play with their kids? Ade is here to challenge that thought. Instead of initiating all of your child play, she encourages observing them,  let them be bored and allow them to tap into their creative child play.  Because as much as we want to believe differently, they learn a lot through play! Ade Hofmann left over a decade of traditional teaching experience behind when she traded fluorescent lights for sunshine.  For the last six years, she has continued to rewrite the narrative of what early childhood looks and feels like. Her philosophy for early childhood education is that living is learning and that play is an essential right to for all! Thank you for listening to the Hey Shayla podcast!  Here, we love to learn new things and decide what works for us and our family..
