Join us as we explore ways to encourage our children and cultivate resilience in the face of modern life's pressures.
Over the last few months, many have argued that Christianity is experiencing something of a "vibe shift". Just last year, Aaron Renn published a book called Life in the Negative World, arguing that the Church was living in increasingly oppositional times in the Western world. So could it be possible that, perhaps, there is something more going on here too? And if so, what should we do about it? ***Episode note: please forgive our audio imbalance issues. Do you find yourself overwhelmed by negativity—whether from the news, social media, or even your own thoughts? In this episode […] The post How to Be More Positive in a Negative World appeared first on Breakthrough Revolution with Free Setrana.

On this episode, I'm discussing how to maintain your self-esteem in a world where everybody wants to tear down your self-esteem, self-worth, self value, self-respect, self-confidence, and you believe in yourself. How negative people want to make you feel less than what you are, to break, traumatized, make you suffer, destroy, and cause chaos in your life? It's really hard to believe in yourself, when everybody that's close to you as far as family, friends, romantic, relationships, and people that you don't even know or constantly telling you all the negative things about you.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/with-self-respect-comes-self-love--5161847/support.
With declining church attendance and shifting values, there's no denying that our culture's posture toward Christianity has changed. Some say America is now “post-Christian,” but author Aaron Renn believes it is downright “anti-Christian.” In a recent NY Times profile, Renn explains why he thinks Christianity now occupies a “negative world,” and why the winsome approach of leaders like Tim Keller should be abandoned for more aggressive tactics. Then, Phil talks with legendary musician, songwriter, and producer Charlie Peacock about his new memoir, “Roots in Rhythm: A Life in Music.” Also this week, a leaked memo reveals the real impact of Trump's foreign aid cuts and immigration policy, and what exhibits would you add to the Museum of Failure? This episode comes out of an article I wrote a few months ago called A Counter Catechism. I was inspired by a book called Life in the Negative World, where the author, a man named Ren, said we needed to know what we believe and what we don't believe in light of the negativity towards Christianity today, even the hostility. So I've written a piece on a counter catechism concerning belief in God, and I would like to read part of that today. Christianity in the West has gone from the center of civilization to the margins. Once, it shaped laws, culture, and the moral order. Today, it's viewed with suspicion—or outright hostility. The world we live in is not the same as it was in the 1950s. It's not even the same as it was in 2010. The institutions that once carried a Christian foundation have either been conquered or turned against us. And yet, many evangelicals still cling to the illusion that we can "engage the culture" on neutral ground—as if we're still in charge, as if the world hasn't already chosen sides. But this is not the first time the Church has faced such a crisis. In the 9th century, Alfred the Great ruled a crumbling England. Viking invaders weren't just burning towns—they were burning churches. Christian civilization itself was at stake. But Alfred didn't accept defeat. He didn't surrender his people to the whims of pagans. He built. He fortified. He created Christian strongholds—burhs—that became centers of resistance and renewal. And because of that, England was not lost.We have entered a Negative World, where compromise leads only to decline, and surrender guarantees destruction. The question is no longer whether we should build strong Christian communities—the question is whether we will have the courage to do so before it's too late. This episode is brought to you by our premier sponsors, Armored Republic and Reece Fund, as well as our Patreon members and donors. You can join our Patreon athttps://patreon.com/rightresponseministries or you can donate athttps://rightresponseministries.com/donate.Today, we lay out the strategy. Pastor Writer: Conversations on Writing, Reading, and the Christian Life
From Life in the Negative World: Learning how to live in today's new social and cultural environment will require examination, trial and error, and adaptation over time. But there are ways to live with integrity and follow Christ today, even in a negative world. From a peak in church attendance in the mid-20th century, Christianity has been on a trajectory of decline in the United States. Once positive toward Christianity and Christian moral teachings, cultural shifts toward the mid-90s led many to adopt a more neutral tone toward the Christian faith, seeing it as one option among many in a pluralistic public square. Today, however, Christianity is viewed negatively, and being known as a Christian often means a lower social status in elite society. Christian morality is openly repudiated and viewed as a threat to the new moral order. In Life in the Negative World, author Aaron M. Renn looks at the lessons from Christian cultural engagement over the past 70 years and suggests specific strategies for churches, institutions, and individuals to live faithfully in the "negative" world—a culture opposed to Christian values and teachings. And since there is no one-size-fits-all solution, living as a follower of Christ in the new, negative world and being missionally engaged will require a diversity of strategies. In the 1950's half of Americans went to church. Today, it's about 21%. What happened? Why the decline? How do you navigate through the world that is on the decline? On this podcast, Kurt and Chad welcome author Aaron Renn https://www.aaronrenn.com of the book Life in a Negative World and his conversation about how we have went from a Positive to Neutral to Negative, and how we live without being influenced by the negative, and being people who influence the negative.
This week, the Rebels are joined by Pastor Joel Webbon of Right Response Ministries to discuss Reformed Confessionalism. One of the things we must do if we want to be faithful in the season in which God has placed us is to be willing to re-dig the wells of Abraham... to stand on the shoulders of the political, ecclesiastical and familial Fathers who have come before us. But what about everything we experienced in 2020? We can't deny that we live in Trashworld, that everyone has lied to us and that it is easy to be suspicious of everything. How do we anchor ourselves to the faith once and for all delivered to the saints while simultaneously cultivating masculine suspicion and curiosity? Joel comes on to discuss all of this and how talking through these topics creates the kind of men needed to defeat Trashworld. We need to remember what our mission is for the world. It is easy to become discouraged, to compromise, or to become fearful when basic Christian truths are rejected and ignored. We may become quiet or obnoxiously loud. As we look at 1 Peter 3 and the book of Daniel, we will remember our call to live faithfully as Christians in a hostile world by standing firm in our convictions, devoting ourselves to God, and boldly proclaiming the truth of the gospel, trusting that Christ is Lord, even when the world resists us.
Pastor Jared, Dillon, and Caleb react to a tweet by Josh Howerton which discusses the changing methods of cultural engagement in the “negative world” as framed by Aaron Renn. Christians in America—even fairly young Christians—can look back over their lives and recognize something has changed. They remember former days when the culture regarded Christians in a favorable light. You were in good standing if you were perceived as a Christian. But then there was a period when it wasn't necessarily good to be a Christian, but it wasn't a scarlet letter either. But today, Christians in America perceive a chill in the air—the culture today is actually hostile to Christian faith and principles. What happened? In this encore episode of the Christian Emergency Podcast, cultural commentator Aaron Renn charts out how the American culture shifted under our feet. This episode will help you better understand these changes, and also how all Christians around the globe today find themselves in a Negative World. The pressure we face may differ in degree of severity, but we are all frowned upon by broader culture when we cling to Christ. In this episode Pastor Raef sits down with Aaron Renn, author of Life in the Negative World, and co-founder of https://americanreformer.org/. We got a chance to discuss his new book which considers what Christians need to do to think wisely and live rightly in our new "negative world", a world which is not only post-Christian, but in many ways anti-Christian.
Pastoral ministry has gone through hard times. The fall of many pastors has only exacerbated the epidemic in our culture. In this interview, Pastor Michael Clary elaborates on his excellent piece at Sola Ecclesia where he defines the problem in pastoral ministry: Unfortunately, many neutral-world churches built with neutral-world tools have been thoroughly leavened with destructive unbiblical ideas. It will take courage and discipline for faithful pastors to correct them. Otherwise, gangrenous ideas are normalized as unspoken expectations in the church. These unbiblical ideas are eventually institutionalized as those who hold them assume leadership posts. This conversation is incredibly sobering, and I trust it will prove beneficial to pastors and parishioners alike.
