Paul and Eli are still recovering from their New Year's celebrations so, to give you a Friday fix of CheapShow, they're opening up the Patreon vault to deliver another thrilling edition of “Nightbussin”. It's the Patreon exclusive podcast that sees the cheap chaps picking a London Night Bus route and travelling along its whole length! In 2024 they chose the Super Loop bus, the SL7, which travels from West Croydon in the South of the capital all the way round to Heathrow Airport in the West. It's also one of the longest bus routes you can take! However, in this particular episode, there is serious doubt whether they'll actually get to the Bus in time! It's a mix of travelogue and “real time” psychogeography musings. Journey with Paul and Eli for another laid back Night Bus romp that mixes the dumb with the delightful! A Clare Green Party Senator claims the introduction of a night bus between Ennis and Ennistymon would be a huge benefit to people who are "restricted to what they can do at night" The latest bus to Ennistymon currently leaves Ennis at 6:30pm, but additional services will now be added from 8pm to 11pm. The service, operated by Locallink, aims to provide regional balance to rural areas and safe transport to and from Ennis later at night. Inagh Green Party Senator Roisin Garvey says the service provides an option for people who would otherwise be unable to travel.
Who knew it was so difficult to book a hotel room in Ahmedabad? Sleeping in the outdoor food court of a hospital wasn't exactly what we had in mind but it felt safer than the streets! Little did we know the 26-hour bus journey we were about to embark on was going to see Adam embarrass himself in front of a bus load of Indians. An honest mistake or poor judgement? You decide! In this episode, we begin our discussion of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The Nightbus is an odd concept. Why are we letting dementors around children?! This week's guest is producer Helen Gladders. I became aware of Helen's work through the 2016 short film RHONNA & DONNA, directed by Daina O. Pusic, and then I kept seeing her name popping up everywhere and knew she was a producer to watch. More things you might want to know about Helen: She is a graduate of the National Film and Television School having done their MA in Producing for Film & Television. She set up her own company Gingerbread Pictures in October 2016 and was nominated for the “Best Producer” award at Underwire for her short THE WYRD written and directed by Chloë Wicks, in 2017. She is an alumni of the BFI NETWORK'S Producer weekender, Edinburgh Film Festival talent lab, and NETWORK@LFF. Her recent short films include NIGHT BUS directed by former podcast guests Jessica & Henrietta Ashworth and the Film4 & BFI Network backed RUN written & directed by former podcast guest Ruth Greenberg and starring Niamh Algar. At the time of recording, she was in post-production on her first feature TUESDAY, written and directed by Daina O. Pusic, starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Lola Petticrew and backed by A24, BBC Films, BFI, and Cinereach. And excitingly, the film has since had two festival appearances confirmed. It will premiere at this year's Telluride festival in the US, followed shortly after by the BFI London Film Festival, where it will screen in the First Feature Competition. Elsewhere, Helen is busy working on several projects including debut features from filmmakers Jessica & Henrietta Ashworth, Astrid Thorvaldsen, Morayo Akande and Zoe Alker. We talk about how Helen discovered a knack for producing, her experience studying at NFTS, establishing a vision and a voice for her production company, the short film funding landscape, what it means to package a project, the differences between producing shorts and features, and how Titanic kickstarted both of our fascinations with the film industry… SHOW NOTES: Watch Helen's shorts RHONNA & DONNA, RUN and NIGHT BUS. Listen to my episodes of Best Girl Grip with filmmakers Ruth Greenberg and Jessica & Henrietta Ashworth. Read Deadline's review for the feature TUESDAY, starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Buy tickets for TUESDAY at the BFI London Film Festival. Find out where you can watch Helen's film recommendation: JUMBO. In the third episode of series 4, Emily and Rachel continue reliving their time travelling around New Zealand's beautiful north coast, by rereading the blog diary from their second day in Paihia. Among other things, we hear of a marginally successful dolphin-watching boat trip, hours of wandering around various idyllic islands and an unfortunate hostel argument about bread. It's definitely as thrilling as it sounds. Follow the podcast on Instagram at @gapyeardiariespodcast.

In "Night Bus," Zuo Ma is dreaming of the past and invites us along for the ride. Just as Chris Reynold's "The New World" was a surrealist romp through the English countryside, "Night Bus" presents an alternate reality version of China. Though don't take it too literally. "Night Bus" is deeply personal, and though the narrative tends to warp and bend, dipping into the realms of fantasy and sci-fi with its organic spaceships, underground elevator networks, and anthropomorphic animals, it defies any sense of plot-driven cohesion. Yet, there's always an emotional core that runs through Ma's work, whether he's nostalgic about the past, mourning a lost pet, or trying to dignify a relative going through a terrible disease. "Night Bus" is really unlike any comic you've ever read.
This week's guests are Henrietta and Jessica Ashworth! Hen and Jess are screenwriters, directors and twin sisters. In 2012, at the age of 24 they were featured on ScreenDaily's prestigious Stars of Tomorrow list and began writing on TV shows such as FRESH MEAT, DIXI and KILLING EVE.. In 2018 their BFI-backed debut feature as screenwriters - TELL IT TO THE BEES, starring Holliday Grainger and Anna Paquin - premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, and they currently have two other adaptations in the works, alongside a TV series for Amazon. Meanwhile Hen and Jess have branched out into directing and their short film NIGHT BUS, a supernatural horror starring Susan Wokoma is now available to watch on Short of the Week. They are also working with Helen Gladders (who produced NIGHT BUS) on developing their directorial debut. I had a blast chatting with Hen and Jess who are both very smart and funny and have lots of wise things to share about their experiences as screenwriters since arriving in the industry almost a decade ago. I think the thing that struck me most about our conversation was not only how willing they were to talk about some of the difficulties or disappointments inherent to being a writer, but also how they could frame that in a way that is helpful to other aspiring writers and filmmakers and so I think this conversation is fully of really good nuggets about breaking stories and figuring out characters and moving between or on from projects, as well as what it's like to write in service of another person's vision as opposed to being in service of your own imagination. I highly recommend that you check out NIGHT BUS and also watch this space for many more exciting projects penned and or helmed by Hen and Jess.
In this week's episode, Emily and Rachel recount the beginning of their journey through the south of Peru, spending a few nights in the desert city of Nasca, home of the world-famous 'Nasca Lines'. We hear of the trip the pair took in a tiny aircraft to view the lines from above, find out why Emily so deeply regretted making the most of the hostel's incredible breakfast buffet, and hear about their attempts to locate an ATM on the world's most chaotic side street.

New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:02:19) Happy New Year! Welcome to 2022—there's going to be so much great stuff this year. Thank you to everyone who followed us on Twitter! There's 100 of you now! Let's discuss Rick's blog from December 30, 2021. Rick Riordan Presents has been SO successful, and we're so grateful! Tiger Honor comes out January 4, 2022 (artwork by Vivienne To). Read the prologue. And don't forget to check out Yoon Ha Lee's virtual tour. Meet Shaman Sena and Shield, plus Kim Jun. You can pre-order Ballad and Dagger now! Did you see the Daughter of the Deep artwork? Don't forget—DotD is still going to be live-action! The Solangelo book is such a collaborative process, and we're so here for it. How has it been TWO YEARS since Rick started working on the Kane Chronicles/PJOTV adaptations!? Could we get a greenlight…this month? Don't forget to submit your tapes for the open casting call! The Lightning Thief moments we want in the show (00:17:54) Let's talk about the moments from the first book we want to see on screen. Because let's face it—the movie didn't do the book justice. We gotta see Percy fight Clarisse with the toilet water, right!? And it's not just because it's a hilarious scene! And what about Annabeth taming Cerberus? The character work is gonna be amazing, and hopefully we get the chimera, too. Speaking of the Underworld, that's going to be amazing to see. How spooky do you think the show will get? Because Tartarus is a creepy place! Oh, and let's not forget about the time Percy realizes he can breathe underwater. We might know who Percy's dad is going to be, but we still want to see all the lead up to the reveal. Those moments where we see the character (and actor) discover what's going on are important! So many important characters were also left out of the movie. We HAVE to get Ares in there, you know? It's gonna be nuts, and we can't wait. How could they change that final battle? Karen would like to remind you of her undying love for Mr. D. Plus, we definitely need a Seaweed Brain moment. And let's not forget about Grover and his tin cans! What do the Camp Half-Blood beads look like in Rick's brain? We could go on forever, but let's call it there! Which moments do you really want to see in the show? Chapter Reviews (00:50:51) Sea of Monsters chapter 3 really said, “Fight for your life, Percy!” Annabeth was kinda mean this chapter. :( BUT it really is good character development, and that's important, too. Too many Harry Potter references! What's the difference between the Fates and the Gray Sisters? A little Night Bus, a little Hercules. Percy was feeling BRAVE in that taxi cab. Karen Googled the numbers. She also gets the best quotes/moments because she makes the doc. Chapter 4 has a really cool fight scene with some awesome creatures. It's good that Percy stands up to Annabeth once in a while. Poor, Tyson! If we get a season 2, this is going to be an amazing opener. Everything has changed at Camp, and we don't like it. Wait, how did Tyson's clothes survive the fire? Thanks for listening, and be sure to tune in next time for episode 14, in which we'll discuss all of the companion novels, short stories, illustrated editions, and more set within the Camp Half-Blood Chronicles universe. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Each episode, our Prophecy Radio hosts and their guests will keep you up to date on the latest information coming out of Camp Half-Blood, including upcoming books and adaptation news, discuss a topic of choice, and do a chapter by chapter reread of the Percy Jackson series. Night Bus, Late Night Grocery Run, & Pink Motel are microgenres that represent their own experiential sound, where the songs are held together by the atmospheres they invoke rather than a specific set of rules or location in time and space. The music, primarily captured on singles, was created by private press or no name labels with dreams of making it big or at least making a few bucks. The mood of these micro-genres provides a faded snapshot of the 1980s with a depraved combination of the excess and frivolity of popular styles of the time: RnB, disco, funk, AOR, and synthpop. Our episode today is being co-hosted by two cosmonauts of musical taxonomy, Candace and Micah, who launch themselves into the darkest recesses of the musical spectrum and bring back the fragments of unremembered sounds out of the oblivion. They explore musical trends that are mostly forgotten or intentionally pushed away from mass society for its own protection. They have worked diligently to find homes for the “square peg” music that certainly exists, but is, as of yet, unrecognized as a cohesive micro-genre. Music that is little known outside of the basement dwelling record trolls plastered to their discogs, mixclouds, and youtubes. Chapter 1
As we first told you on Tuesday, TransLink says it will expand its Night Bus service on Fridays and Saturdays, but it won't be expanding SkyTrain hours. At this morning's Mayor's Council meeting, the civic politicians were told, "the reality is SkyTrain was not built for 24-hour service." TransLink today released an independent, year-long technical study that found that to extend SkyTrain service on Friday and Saturday nights, service would have to end an hour earlier on Sunday through Thursday nights, to make up for the required maintenance hours, and closures would be required on some statutory holidays. Instead, Night Bus service is being expanded. Guest: Kennedy Stewart Vancouver MayorChapter 6
Ahmed has spent much of the last three and a half years sleeping on London's night buses. He fled to the UK from India in 2002 during the communal riots in Gujarat, fearing that he was going to be a target. He had his asylum application turned down but, still nervous about the situation at home, he stayed in the UK. Through Ahmed we enter a netherworld where many other failed asylum seekers like him exist.
