We're so glad you are here! Thanks for checking out Sunday's message!-- SUNDAY'S NOTES --Some battles are easy to run from! (Skunks are one of them)Not every battle is that easy. There are battles that show up in in the deepest parts of you, Battles that threaten your family/your faith and your future! These are Spiritual Battles! What if not every battle is meant to be escaped?Because not every battle comes from the same place! We all face these, And we find ourselves wrestling with the aftermath! (And God Fights with and for us as a compassionate Friend as we lean on His strength) There are battles that come, not because you've disobeyed God, but because you've obeyed Him.Battles that find you while you're walking in surrender.Battles that come because you're exactly where God wants you to be. Takeaway: Gods Promises are not without Perils!Every step of the way toward the place that God had promised Joshua, There is an enemy rising up! Joshua was human, he must have laid eyes on that vast army and wondered the same thing! Why all these battles God?Joshua 11:20a(nkjv) For it was of the Lord to harden their hearts, that they(The Enemy) should come against Israel in battle,  Because you can't walk in darkness and light at the same time!God knew something Joshua didn't know…and He knows something that you dont know:Takeaway: If you dont completely destroy your enemy, your enemy has the lingering potential to destroy you! Joshua's enemies were flesh and blood-ours are…AnxietyFearAddictionLustHopelessness/DepressionBitterness/OffenseGrief that we let control usPrideDivisionUnforgivenessDisappointmentEach of these are designed and assigned to take us out! These enemies that come against us are not for us to coexist with, but to conquer! Not to cohabitate with, but to completely/utterly destroy.Gods Policy…Leave no trace… of lust/fear/pride/envy…Fight not just until you get the upper hand, but until they are destroyed! No Trace!A little leaven, a little bit left can grow! Little compromises become Addictions. Little pride becomes a Poison. Little fears become Prisons. Little Lusts become Flames of Dark Desire!Takeaway: The enemies you don't defeat will lurk in the shadows of your life, gaining strength and will be a constant threat to your future and your family!Even with God on their side it was a process!Dont get discouraged in the process! Don't you get weary in the fight!Don't you give up-Dont you Quit! You are destined to fight and you are destined to win but you cannot win without a war! God wants us to walk in complete freedom! How do you walk in freedom from every enemy that rises up against you?How do you protect your family from the enemy?Be Strong and Very CourageousWhen the enemy comes…You stand up and fight…In the strength of the Lord! You keep Worshiping/Keep Surrendering/Praising/Praying/Reading/Crying out to God/Staying accountable/Fall down get back up/Running Back-Staying close to Jesus/Determine to grow(even if its slow) and dont you dare quit!Joshua is old-he is about to move to his eternal home he has realized not everyone obeyed the words of the Lord completely to destroy their enemies. Some remnants of enemies were allowed to remain in the land.So he gave them this warning:Joshua 23:12,13That's exactly what happened! (Judges)The enemies that were allowed to stay, who were not defeated, eventually led Gods People into deep idolatry and all kinds of evil sins that destroyed many! How do you know you are in danger? When you are friends with enemies God told you to destroy! What about you? Is their something you know is an enemy you are allowing to live in your heart? Something You have quit fighting and started coexisting with that is displeasing to God?This is not a game-You cannot toy/play with things God said to stay away from, the things that God said to drive out/destroy.If we are honest all of us have some enemies we are letting linger in our lives, we all have some business to take care of with Jesus this morning. The good news, today we can lean into Jesus, we can repent of any and all areas of darkness we have allowed to remain in our lives that do not line up with Gods word and we can walk out of here with a fresh start/ clean and re-engaged in a victorious battle over every enemy that threatens us and our families! -------------------------------------------------Download the 828 Church app!To view our latest e-newsletter, the Midweek Momentum, and subscribe to our weekly updates, go here! https://linktr.ee/828church

Perspective with Andrew Dickens: Why is there no trace of policy out of Labour?

Something has finally emerged from the silent, yawning abyss that is the Labour Party. Unfortunately, it's not policy - it's their list. Seventy-two names, 30 new candidates. Party president Jill Day and leader Chris Hipkins say the lineup reflects modern New Zealand. They've got candidates from business, farming, the public service, unions, and community services - Rhodes scholars, Fulbright scholars and Uncle Tom Cobley and all. They've gone for a 50-50 gender split and diversity. Remember, polling suggests Labour could win about 44 seats and Chris Hipkins is expecting at least 10 new MPs to enter Parliament at the end of this year. One standout newcomer is police superintendent Rakesh Naidoo, ranked 13th - almost guaranteed a seat. He's a list-only candidate, straight into position number 13. Pity he didn't tell Mark Mitchell. There are some major ranking shifts. Māori seat MP Cushla Tangaere-Manuel jumps to ninth, while Vanushi Walters rises to eighth after returning to Parliament this term. These are high up in the rankings - and no, I haven't heard of them either. Names I have heard of, such as Camilla Belich and Deborah Russell, have dropped down the rankings. They may struggle to return. And poor old MP Greg O'Connor - having had his electorate, Ōhāriu, withdrawn and redrawn from beneath him - isn't even on the list. So this is a de facto announcement of his retirement and he's not happy. Now remember that Chris Hipkins promised policy after the Budget to answer our questions. Questions like: will they reverse the public service spending cuts? Will they reverse the increase in defence spending? Will they finally unveil a meaningful capital gains tax regime? But here we are, 11 days after the Budget and still no trace of policy. So what on earth are we going to vote for these people on? That is anybody's guess. In January of 1985, siblings Michael and Pamela Mayfield were last seen getting into a vehicle willfully on their way home from school. The six-year-old and five-year-old, respectively, were never seen again. Efforts to locate the two children were relatively extensive. The Missing Children Milk Carton Program was new and gaining momentum fast, and the Mayfield Children were featured there, on nationwide news, and at the end of the third broadcast of the Adam Walsh television movie. No trace, however, of what happened to the two vibrant children was ever found.  If you have any information on the disappearances of Pamela and Michael Mayfield, please contact the Houston Police at (713) 222-3131.   You can support gone cold and listen to the show ad-free at https://patreon.com/gonecoldpodcast Find us at https://www.gonecold.com For Gone Cold merch, visit https://gonecold.dashery.com Follow gone cold on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, YouTube, and X. Send us a textEver wondered how to stay truly clean outdoors without messing up the places you love? We pull back the curtain on camp hygiene with no-nonsense tips for safe handwashing, smart dish systems, and bathroom choices that protect water, wildlife, and your stomach. From what “biodegradable” actually means to why distance from lakes matters more than you think, we break down simple routines that reduce impact and keep your campsite calm and critter-free.We start with first principles: preventing GI illness, avoiding scents that draw animals, and making soil do the filtering work soaps need. You'll learn how to set up compact wash stations, strain food scraps from grey water, and decide when to use a cat hole versus a wag bag in fragile or rocky terrain. We talk gear that works—collapsible basins, light trowels, concentrated soap—and low-waste habits like packing out wipes and diapers, double-bagging scented items, and rinsing away from camp. For families, we offer kid-friendly rules that make clean hands and safe water second nature. We also tackle menstrual hygiene with practical, low-impact options like cups and period underwear, plus tips on storage and rinsing that respect Leave No Trace. Along the way, we share real-world missteps (hello, solar shower rules) and how to read campground and park guidelines so your system fits the landscape, not the other way around. Clean camping isn't about perfection; it's about small choices that add up to healthier trips and healthier ecosystems. If this guide helps you camp cleaner, share it with a friend, hit follow, and leave a quick review. Together, they question the cultural norms of tidying up, consider the impact of den-building, and reflect on how story can shift behaviour more meaningfully than rules. Danny shares his roots in experiential education, the story behind his book Tales of the Timeless Forest, and how he works through conflict using narrative. From philosophical musings on deadwood and dominance, to practical provocations for forest school practice, this conversation offers no easy answers—but plenty of fertile ground for reflection.⏱ Chapter Timings:04:00 – Danny's story: from Ramsbottom to experiential education in the US08:10 – Bridging the gap between outdoor and mainstream education10:42 – “Using nature” vs “being with nature” – why language matters15:48 – The origins of Leave No Trace and its cultural framing19:31 – Dens, deadwood, and how much trace is too much?25:25 – Woodland management dilemmas and practitioner responsibility32:16 – Story as a tool for navigating complex moments with children38:22 – Emotional reactions to monolith beech trees – trace, grief, and care47:33 – Is ‘permissive ecology' a useful metaphor for outdoor practice?53:04 – Post-humanism, story-sharing, and the joy of seasonal tales

Send us a textThe American Curmudgeon, John Davies is back for a nostalgic trip down memory lane about how it was growing up in the 80's.Our generation was left to run wild with barely any supervision. We didn't need all these internet connected devices to keep us busy. We found or created things to do. We had real life skills because the technology didn't do it all for us like today. Did technology dumb us all down to the point where we can't do hard things anymore? The short answer is, YES. Even I find it so crazy that not so long ago if we had to find a party, given some vague address and a few clues, we would just FIND IT. Miraculous!!! Think about it, there's literally NO TRACE of your mistakes, embarrassments, failures, or digital footprints from 40 years ago. You get off scot free, as opposed to today. The video that spawned tonight's show idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dEJiQnotR8Try John's line of deliciously spicy American Curmudgeon hot sauces, which can be purchased from his website here: https://theamericancurmudgeon.com/Be prepared for any emergency needs with Dangerous INFO Podcast's Prep Accordingly affiliate link: https://bit.ly/prepaccordinglySUPPORT THE SHOWSubscribeStar http://bit.ly/42Y0qM8Super Chat Tip https://bit.ly/42W7iZHBuzzsprout https://bit.ly/3m50hFTPaypal http://bit.ly/3Gv3ZjpPatreon http://bit.ly/3G37AVx SMART is the acronym that was created by technocrats that have setup the "internet of things" that will eventually enslave humanity to their needs. Take a trip through the puzzle of porta-potties at a free-range event, highway happenings, and the new news about prep. This is deeper than “What is MOOP?” This is the ART of Leaving No Trace. It's part of the Burning Man ethos, and it's why Black Rock City is the world's largest Leave No Trace event. Now nearly 100 other Burning Man events around the globe adhere to this attitude, this mindset. It's an ongoing quest to leave less and less of a trace. As the principle is written, it invites us to leave spaces in better shape than we found them. The 75,000 citizens of BRC pick up after themselves. It's miraculous. And we can do more. Those of us who take on the challenge, we see it as a process, a practice, a stretch goal. We look at ways to get closer to that zero point. Each of us is at a different point on the LNT learning curve. The next level is to develop techniques to do it collectively. It is a set of behaviors to be cultivated. In this episode, we talk with some of the unsung heroes: blue: DPW Logistics & Project Manager of Recycle CampBarbarella: Resto's Highway Clean-Up ManagerDA: Playa Restoration ManagerHazmatt: Associate Director of BRC Business OperationsWe look at what gets left behind, so we can grok our cumulative impact, and make a better choice, a better cascade of choices, to teach good citizenship. Calls For Binning Of 'Leave No Trace' Policy Amid Shannon Littering Surge

Residents of Shannon are calling for the current anti-litter policy to be binned amid claims it's ineffective in preventing illegal rubbish disposal. It follows recent reports of persistent dumping in Shannon Town Park which is a recreational and biodiversity area in the heart of the industrial town. The four-hectare site with walkways, native trees and hedgerows known as Shannon Town Park was opened in 2019 with a €1.5 million investment. Located beside the Brú na Sionna apartments, the park is enjoyed by locals young and old and includes a bandstand, children's playground, basketball court, pump track as well as outdoor seating. Despite holding a Green Flag Award from An Taisce for the last few years, the site has been labelled a "litter blackspot" in recent times owing to reports of frequent illegal dumping around the park and its environs. Shannon native and Independent local election candidate Keith McNamara believes a key reason for the prevalence of rubbish in the park is the poor spread of bins. In February alone, 74 complaints relating to waste disposal and six relating to littering were received by Clare County Council. The latest spike in littering in Shannon has prompted some residents to once again criticise the 'Leave No Trace' policy which is a national campaign that encourages people to "plan ahead, be considerate of others and dispose of waste correctly when enjoying the outdoors". The policy is Ireland's only code of ethics programme for walkways and has been adopted by this county's local authority. Shannon Tidy Towns Chairperson Derek Clune says while the policy is admirable in theory, it isn't working well on a practical level. In a statement to Clare FM, Clare County Council says "daily litter picking occurs on behalf of the Council and the mini road sweeper also services the park", while there are nine bins located in the vicinity. The local authority says its Environmental Awareness Officer also works collaboratively with local groups and organisations and visits local schools on an ongoing basis to highlight the litter prevention message and the role of personal responsibility.

Benjamin Stevenson's new Everyone on this Train is a Suspect has several dead bodies on a literary festival train, Michael Trant's Gabe Ahern in No Trace is keeping the lowest of profiles on a remote cattle property when death strikes but no one can escape because of a flood and Michelle Prak's debut thriller The Rush has mother and baby in an isolated pub, bikies and backpackers trapped by rain. What is the attraction of this sub-genre of crime fiction? Why will it live forever? We investigate in the closed Metcalfe Auditorium of the State Library of NSW. Mark your exits…

Ok and greathouse get into poetic forms—which they liken to open-source software—particularly the beloved “burning haibun” form that greathouse created and that she wrote about for Poetry's “Not Too Hard to Master” series. The essay appears in the July/August issue of Poetry alongside their Springsteen-inspired burning haibun, “Dancing in the Dark,” which greathouse reads on the podcast. They also interrogate the anti-trans rhetoric and language of radical white feminist poets, and greathouse reads “There's No Trace of the Word ‘Transgender' in Adrienne Rich's Biography,” which previously appeared in Poetry.

In July, a small group of hikers was apprehended and ticketed for leaving two Adirondack chairs at the summit of Slide Mountain. Those hikers' actions, while misguided, may have been good-intentioned. But they fly in the face of outdoor ethics and "leaving no trace." At the core of "Leave No Trace" are 7 principles that provide a framework of minimum impact practices for safe and sustainable experiences in nature. Moe Lemire is a licensed outdoor guide and a LNT master educator. We joined him at the epitome of a "high-use" spot -- Kaaterskill Falls -- to learn more about planning for and engaging in minimally-impactful Catskills excursions.
