Segment: Off the PageEpisode Title: Show Up AnywayHost: Jasmine LashaeHey friend. Welcome to Off the Page, the part of Her Revision where I slow it down and share a quick word that's been sitting on my spirit. These are the short episodes. No fluff. No filter. Just me and you.In this episode, I'm talking about the power of showing up even when you don't feel like it. Even when you feel behind. Even when your energy is low and your momentum is off. I've had to learn that consistency doesn't mean perfection. It means choosing yourself again and again, even after a setback. So if you've been in a season where you feel like you dropped the ball, this is your reminder. You don't have to be at your best to keep going. You just have to show up.Take this with you:You're still growing. You're still becoming. Don't count yourself out just because it doesn't look perfect.Stay connected with me:Subscribe to my Rewritten newsletter: https://rewrittenthoughts.substack.comTikTok: @jasminelashae0105Instagram: @jasmine.lashae_ Hosted on Acast. Today on the show we have returning champion the legendary Linda Seger. Linda and I discuss her new book You Talkin' to Me?: How to Write Great Dialogue. We do a deep dive into how to write great dialog. Here's a bit about the book.Unlike the chitchat of everyday life, dialogue in stories must express character, advance the story, suggest a theme, and include a few memorable lines that audiences will be quoting for decades to come. The best stories have dialogue that sparkles, but it's easy for inexperienced writers to fall into common pitfalls like creating dialogue that's wooden or too on the nose.Other writers end up with exposition awkwardly inserted into conversations, actors tripping over unnatural phrases or characters who all speak exactly the same way. In You Talkin' to Me? Linda Seger and John Winston Rainey are here to help with all your dialogue problems. In each chapter, they explore dialogue from a different angle and discuss examples of great dialogue from films and novels. To cap it all off, each chapter ends with examples of poor dialogue, which are annotated by Linda and then rewritten by John, so readers don't just learn how to recognize when it's done well―they also learn how to make the dialogue better. Whether you're writing fiction or nonfiction, for the screen or for the page, this book will get your characters talking.Ron Howard says he never starts a film without her book. Having authored nine books on scriptwriting, including the best selling Making A Good Script Great, Linda is one of the most prolific writers in her field. Enjoy my conversation with Linda Seger.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/indie-film-hustle-a-filmmaking-podcast--2664729/support.

This summer, we spent some time in upstate New York in the Finger Lakes. The Finger Lakes are a group of 11 long, narrow, roughly north–south lakes located directly south of Lake Ontario in an area called the Finger Lakes region in New York, in the United States.A pre-Prohibition wine region, the first vines were planted in Hammondsport, New York in 1829. By 1900, more than 50 wineries were established along the lakes. The Finger Lakes AVA was established in 1982 and boasts two sub-AVAs, the Cayuga Lake and Seneca Lake AVAs, both established in 1988. Today, the region is home to almost 150 wineries and 11,000 acres of vineyards and produces about 54,600 tons of grapes. In addition to wine, the Finger Lakes boasts a strong history, including Seneca Falls, the birthplace of the women's rights movement in America (and you know we're all about that). We stayed at Glen Hollow and learned about all the local history and wine. Hosts Chris and Lisa were so gracious, and showed us all around the beautiful region. Tune in to learn more about what Glen Hollow, and the region, has to offer.

On this episode, we interview Jennifer Serrano and Veronica Vasquez from JZD, who are breaking barriers as a queer Latina-owned lifestyle brand that builds community and celebrates cultura every day. Founded in 2016 by the wife duo in the border town of Brownsville, Texas, JZD exists to empower and remind Latinas that eres una diosa; poderosa y hermosa!Jen and Vero are proud to be living their American Dream with their “dollar and a dream” hustle mentality, which has catapulted their business and brand to unimaginable heights as two women with immigrant roots. Jen immigrated from Mexico at the age of six and Vero is a first-generation Mexican-American. Jen and Vero started JZD because they needed a reminder of their power. Their first successful product is the now iconic Pink Latina Power Tee. When that t-shirt went viral, they realized that so many in the community felt the same way. At that moment they decided to focus on creating products that made them feel represented and connected to their roots. Under their community first mindset and dedicated leadership, JZD has reached $2 million in sales in under six years, grown a social media community of more than 100,000 followers, launched a collection at Target and shipped to more than 31 countries. All while being independently owned and self-funded.

2022.05.14 – 0499 – Off-The-Page and Off-The-CuffConversationalThe best two-ways are a balance between what's off-the-page and what's off-the-cuff. ‘Structured improvisation' if you like, working with the script but not word for word. Choreographed. Reading every question and answer just as it was composed at a desk makes the flow, go … and unless you and the host are great actors, may sound stilted and artificial. So usually, you can both reply in bullet points – key facts and figures. For a complicated or controversial topic (especially court cases) those can have a bit more detail in them.Incorporate some of the tricks we have already seen:· Call each other by name, naturally· Use phrases such as “of course” and “y'know”· Verbally agree with each other as they talk “uh-huh”, “mmmm” and then as you start a sentence “yes, that's right”.In such a situation, the odd stumble (that's a small mistake, and not many of them) makes the reporter seem more human, more authentic especially at a breaking news story for example in a typhoon or outside a court room. This week's parasha is “VaYishlakh” – “And He Sent Out” – and the Haftarah from the itty-bitty 1-chapter book of Obadiah, we see see spiritual plutonium-strength display of the Deuteronomy 18 standard for the authority of the Scriptures: such specific long-range prophecy so accurate it is almost scary to read it. The prophet predicts when Israel returns from scattering across the world, exactly where in Israel certain populations will settle – abnd it is not the region of our land from which they were kidnapped and exiled! Amazing! Mind-boggling! And – we study WHY God put this content into the bread-crumb trail of the Scriptures. Enjoy!
