This Sunday's message was from Acts 6:1-7, is called God's Providence in Our Problems. One of the foundational convictions of the apostles in the early church is that Jesus is both Lord and Savior of the church. That means, Jesus is not just the subject of the mission. He is the Director of the mission. He isn't just the Savior of His people. He is the Sovereign over all things. He is large and in charge. In last Sunday's passage, Acts 5:30-31, Peter speaks to the religious leaders in Jerusalem and he says “The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by hanging him on a tree. God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.” The book of Acts is not the book of Accidents. It is the story of the mission of Christ. King Jesus is building his church and even the problems aren't problems for him. They are predestined for the salvation of souls and the expansion of His kingdom. This is super helpful to us as his people. Life is full of disappointments and failures and events that we would never choose. The church is so often palpably struggling. Yet, God chooses to work in a way that is so different than any of us would work. He does this so that we might see that salvation completely belongs to the Lord. It helps us to recognize that He is gloriously God and we are definitely not. Thank God for that! The apostle Paul in Romans 11 puts it this way: “Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor? Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid? For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.” Come this Sunday and be reminded that Christ is a solid hope and his kingdom is a sure thing in a world of perplexities and problems. This is such a comfort. It is such a hope. In Christ, Kevin Dibbley, Senior Pastor

Please join Kate and Sheila as they tackle Rule # 7, We Deal with Our Problems, in House Rules by Jacob Hudgins. Lev. 19:17-18 gives us a great game plan. “You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but you shall reason frankly with your neighbor, lest you incur sin because of him. You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself; I am the LORD” Why does God want us to make this difficult choice? Getting ‘it' out in the open helps us to: maintain healthy relationships… We don't want to give the devil a foothold. Stop sin before it spreads…Jesus teaches relationships are in constant need of maintenance, forgiveness, challenge, and reconciliation. How do we deal with our problems? The gift of discernment helps us to determine the best approach to discipline and confrontation. “Not every problem is a crisis.” The gift of courage is colossal. Hudgin made a powerful connection. The David who showed amazing courage in confronting and killing Goliath later on would refuse to deal with the problems of his own family. He did not want to challenge his kids and make them displeased with him for a season so he sacrificed their long-term flourishing and growing closer to God…which should be every parents' goal for their children. The gift of humility is huge! 2 Tim 2:24-25 reminds us…”the LORD'S servant must not be quarrelsome, but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness.” Humility must be practiced. Let's strive to give a determined effort to deal with our problems. Let's put the broom down and give up sweeping important things under the rug. Let's stop jumping to conclusions and seek to understand our loved ones and open up ourselves to the possibility that we are wrong. This mindset will help change avoiders into resolvers! Nathan is asking the question - which do we shout about the loudest - Our Problems or our Praise?
This is our second full conversation of the Forum on Spiritual Direction where we continue to discern the focus question for discernment, "Can Spiritual Direction Solve (Almost) All of Our Problems?" Cami and I engage in an extended contemplative conversation to discern and tease out the dignifying nature of spiritual direction. This is to say we talk about the practice of spiritual direction by practicing spiritual direction. While our society is one of oppression, pressing down upon and minimizing us, the contemplative space of spiritual direction provides a way for us to rediscover the enormity of each other, the profound dignity of each other.Carrots grow best in a loose, fluffy, well-draining soil. Gardeners call this “fertile sandy loam.” If planted in tightly compacted, rocky soil with clods and debris, carrots growth will not only be stunted. They will become twisted, distorted knots.Human beings also need ample space, the comfort of love, patience, and kindness to flourish. Our society and sadly even the church at times are oppressive in ways that define our individual and collective experience of trauma, the arrested development of of spiritual, mental, and even physical health. We believe that spiritual direction, careful, contemplative listening is the most effective way for humans to help each other discover and rediscover this kind of flourishing. The Invitation is a spirituality center that practices spiritual direction at the vital intersection of contemplation and justice. We suddenly find ourselves sort of running a planet—a role we never anticipated or sought—without knowing how it should be done. We're at the controls, but we're not in control. Humans have become a powerful agent of geological change, equal to the other great forces of nature that build mountains, and shape continents and species. We are witnessing, and manifesting, something unprecedented and still completely unpredictable: the advent of self-aware global geological change. We know about the impacts we are inflicting on the Earth. However, our growing acceptance of this earth-shattering event can be a turning point in our ability to respond to the changes we've set in motion. At the moment though, we are Child-like Masters of the Universe - junior apprentice planetary engineers. We don't really want the job, but it's too late now. The first space race, between the United States and the Soviet Union, was a geopolitical and ideological struggle between superpowers. Now five decades in the past, it pushed the limits of technology to extremes and realized some long-held dreams of humanity, like putting a human on the moon. But after the enormous gains of the 1950s and 60s, space exploration advanced more gradually. More countries developed space programs, but between 1961 and 2000, only the Soviet Union, the United States and China put humans into space. After the U.S.'s Apollo program came to an end, humans never returned to the moon, and ambitious plans to expand human exploration to other planets were shelved. And with the end of NASA's Space Shuttle program, the U.S. seemed to become disinterested in the final frontier, even contracting human launches out to Russia. Over the past decade, something changed. In 2004, U.S. Congress required NASA and the Federal Aviation Administration to legalize private spaceflight. Then, in 2015, it passed the Spurring Private Aerospace Competitive and Entrepreneurship Act, better known as the SPACE Act, which expanded the rights to explore and exploit space to private citizens in the U.S. During that same time, an internet entrepreneur named Elon Musk founded the aerospace company SpaceX with the goal of developing cheaper and more reliable access to space and, ultimately, to build a colony on Mars. Today, SpaceX has developed and launched its partially reusable rocket, Falcon 9, more than 150 times. The company is on the cusp of introducing a fully reusable launch system, Starship, with a lift capacity of more than 100 tons to low-Earth Orbit. SpaceX and other private companies have also developed vehicles that can put humans into space, as well as “mega-constellations” of satellites that promise to provide high quality and affordable internet access independent of terrestrial infrastructure. At the same time, Russia's invasion of Ukraine has brought an end to decades of cooperation between Washington and Moscow in space, putting even the future of the International Space Station into question. Meanwhile, China is aggressively pushing its space program, as are India and other nations. Arguably, the world is already in the age of a new Space Race. And this time, it is multipolar, with everyone from superpowers to startups participating. Joining Trend Lines to discuss all this and more is Eric Berger, a senior space editor at Ars Technica and author of “Liftoff,” a book on the rise of SpaceX. La Porta | Renungan Harian Katolik - Daily Meditation according to Catholic Church liturgy
Delivered by Fhesty Maria Faustin from Catholic Religious High School Saint John Paul II Seminary Labuan Bajo, Indonesia. Wisdom 18: 14-16; 19: 6-9; Rs psalm 105: 2-3.36-37.42-43; Luke 18: 1-8 GOD ACTS RIGHT ON OUR PROBLEMS The theme for our meditation today is: God Acts Right on Our Problems. There was a meeting between the two poles of human condition of life that can be the starting point of our reflection today. There was a great judge who was rich, arrogant and very influential in the society. His life purpose was to enjoy his own wealth. There was another person, a widow who had a very serious problem. She was very poor, and still burdened by another serious problem, namely the court did not do justice to her problem. She was so helpless. This is just a parable which we have just heard from the Gospel. However, we are brought to the reality of the meeting between the little ones and the great ones, the poor and the rich, the master and the servant. Everywhere in this world, the screams and cries of the little or poor people are always heartbreaking. We see for ourselves with compassion and pity many helpless people around us because of the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic. The world really listens their cry, then come various aids to comfort and alleviate their problems. Our merciful God moves the world. Today we see His right action to overcome human difficulties. God acts quickly and He proves to be the solution to our problems. Help should be given to people who have no help and support. The widow in Naim whose only son died, was immediately helped by Jesus. The crippled man at the pool of Bethesda had no one to bring him into the pool when the water moved, but Jesus immediately came to his aid. These are still many examples of God acting precisely and quickly on our problems. Many of us have received the true miracle from God in different situations of life. Some people may feel that they have not received help from God. Because of that, they tend to make their own views about God. Some have been patient enough and in great hope they believe that the help will come at a proper time. Some have given up to hope and to pray because they have waited so long, then they stop believing God. Some are even angry to God. It could be true that the right time is not yet coming. And why? Because there are still other people around who can help. God uses the people around, such as family members, relatives, friends, government officials, society, to show their sensitivity and availability to help. Many times this social awareness and intervention have not been practiced when in fact our closest helpers should be the ones to help. The help basically comes from God himself. Human persons are normally used by God to be the instruments of help those who are in need. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O Lord, give us enough power that we are able to do good and become responsible helpers for our fellow neighbors who are in need. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit... In the name of the Father... --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/media-la-porta/message

Part Two: Living by the Power of Another KEYNOTE SLIDES AND NOTES Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Not only have WE been crucified with Christ, OUR PROBLEMS have also been crucified with Him. We can live an empowered through Christ and re-frame problems as an opportunity. As part of being made in God's "Image and Likeness," humanity was designed be "fruitful and multiply," not only by having children, but being fruitful in every area of life. The gift of a problem is activating your ability to flourish and thrive. It is essential to have self-awareness of your potential as well as your problems. We don't need to practice denial because we have been empowered by Christ to face every challenge victoriously! Reflection Questions:1. How have you been tempted to change your frame and purpose? 2. What do you need to stop denying so God can help you?3. What do you look like when you are flourishing and thriving? 4. What does seeking first God’s kingdom and righteousness look like?
