When she was ready to record, she laid it down using a Tascam four-track recorder and assembled her albums using a computer workstation. Welcome back to Transmissions. This week on the show, which brings our 2023 season to a close, we are joined by Matt Werth of RVNG to discuss the life and multi-dimensional sound worlds of Pauline Anna Strom. This month, the label released Echoes, Spaces, Lines, which collects the first three albums from the Bay Area synthesist and composer, including Trans-Millenia Consort, Plot Zero, and Spectre, as well as Oceans of Time, an unreleased record included in the box set for the first time.  An energy worker, reptile enthusiast, and imagination specialist, Anna Strom's work continues to gleam after her passing in 2020. Home to releases by Sensations Fix, Craig Leon, Holly Herndon, K Leimer, just to name a few favorites, among many more, RVNG is one of the most exciting reissue slash new music labels going, and it was a real treat to connect with Werth to discuss his time with Pauline and her unique and singular musical path.  Transmissions is a part of the Talkhouse Podcast Network. In the early '80s, he found found notoriety as host of New Wave Theatre, which showcased Bad Religion, Circle Jerks, 45 Grave and the Angry Samoans. Peter and the Acid King explores that epochal cultural era and its violent end. Working with investigator and co-creator Alan Sacks, Spheeris narrates with 10-part series, which is just about to finish its run, with world weary charm and sly understatement, as well as her signature attitude. Las artes en general parecen ser cosa de hombres, supongo que por arrastrar prejuicios culturales que relegaban a la mujer a papeles secundarios o simplemente porque las labores prominentes eran desempeñadas habitualmente por hombres. En nuestro canal de Telegram, Oriol mencionó que sería interesante hacer un episodio especial dedicado a las mujeres pioneras en la música electrónica y la verdad es que me la idea me apeteció mucho. Investigando un poco van saliendo nombres que se merecen un reconocimiento y que han jugado un papel destacado en el desarrollo de los precoces instrumentos electrónicos. My guest today is Jessica Thompson a GRAMMY-nominated mastering and restoration engineer, audio preservation specialist, and educator. She has digitized, restored, and revived historic recordings for artists ranging from jazz pianist Erroll Garner to blues and folk revolutionary Barbara Dane, from Ethiopian keyboardist Hailu Mergia to proto punk band Jack Ruby, from anarcho-punk band Crucifix to synthesizer legend Pauline Anna Strom.   She masters music both new and old and has worked on records for Michael Daves, Flipsyde, Matthew McNeal, International Dub Ambassadors, Teno Afrika, Occurrence, and many more.  She sometimes writes gear reviews for Tape Op Magazine and contributed a chapter on "Mastering the Sonics of Historic Recording Media" for the book Music Preservation and Archiving Today.   She currently serves as President of the San Francisco Chapter of the Recording Academy.
