Thursday Trae sits with Afua Kouyate, the Visionary for African Cultural Arts Center. She'll share the opportunity for the community to pour into the effort to open their doors. Next, it's another This 'N That Thursday with our Resident Stylist, Jerica T. Tune in to see what she's sharing today!
Moh Kouyate is a Guinean guitarist/singer/songwriter descending from a line of griots (jalis) in West Africa. As listeners heard in the Afropop Worldwide program Global Griots in France, he has lived in Paris since 2006, collaborating with a wide range of artists from genres far outside his traditional art. In this episode, Banning Eyre speaks with Moh about his adventurous life, and particularly, his ground-breaking, new acoustic album, Mokhôya. Also, fellow Guinean artist Natu Camara gives a shoutout about her upcoming visit to Camp Afropop, May 28-31, 2024 near Woodstock, New York.
Nottingham Forest defender Andrew Omobamidele paid tribute to team-mate Cheikhou Kouyate after opening the scoring against Blackpool in Wednesday's FA Cup third-round replay. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nwosu-chizoba-david/message
A change in formation and personnel, but the same old result. Following a reasonable showing in the first half, a moment of madness from Jonjo Shelvey gifted a goal to Bertrand Traore. The Reds (yellows) were up against it from that moment on; substitutions were unsuccessful, and the misery was compounded when Forest went down to ten men after using all their subs. Ollie Watkins sealed the result in stoppage time. Steven and Tom discuss the match after getting home from Villa Park, and having a night to sleep on it. Naturally, they discuss the pressure on the manager, and the performance of some of the team, and the effects of injuries as we lose Kouyate and Niakhate again. We also get a view from the opposition, as we are joined by Neil from For The Love Of Paul McGrath. Day 2 of the World Cup is done and dusted and I'm already tired and cranky as fuck.I watched three very different games including England somehow being good against a very disappointing Iran, a wonderful match between very good but somewhat profligate Netherlands and Senegal, and a fun draw between Wales and the Yanks. We chat about the pride armBAN, De Jong's hadouken, and why Fratelli D'Italia is better than the Star Spangled Banner.Like/subscribe/tell your friends and thanks for listening/watching
A great victory for the Reds, as Taiwo Awoniyi's goal against his former club was enough to defeat Liverpool. Morgan Gibbs-White and Ryan Yates could have added to the lead before Dean Henderson made several late saves to preserve the points. Rich Ferraro is joined by Baz to discuss the match, the tactics and notable performances from the likes of Kouyate, Yates and Awoniyi, although the whole team performed well. We also discuss Steve Cooper's tactical plan and how the players seem to be working as a unit - does this give the Reds a chance of avoiding the drop this season? Paris St-Germain's Idrissa Gueye refused to play in a match to avoid wearing a rainbow symbol in support of LGBTQ+ rights. Kouyate posted a picture of himself alongside Gueye on Instagram, with a caption calling Gueye "a real man". Sadly, this couldn't be further from the case.

Welcome to The Arsenal Therapy Podcast, a dedicated show about the club we love, Arsenal Football Club. Arsenal concede 3 against Palace as they lose the chance to get back into the top 4. This is a performance to forget where none of the players really clicked. A game full of errors at the back, misplaced passes and no real intensity in the first half. Palace deserved the victory as they started the game off on the front foot. The midfield battle was won early on with Gallagher and Kouyate pressing the Arsenal defence into submission. Perpetual Amoah, is the founder and owner of Kaneshie Market LLC, a retailer, and wholesaler of authentic African, the Caribbean, and Latin American groceries and products. What started in 2017 as an operation run from Perpetual's car in 2017 has become a 2700 sq. ft. store with ample inventory for her clients. In the beginning, Perpetual would drive to church and to people's homes to sell African groceries and products. As she learned the significance that these products had on her community, and she gained the trust of her clients from Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America, Perpetual evolved her business to run from the basement of her garage. Soon it became clear that she would need to expand her business. Today, Perpetual's Supermarket carries authentic goods for her community, but perhaps more importantly, it demonstrates that business growth and ownership is possible for a determined immigrant woman entrepreneur. What you will learn from this episode: A well-structured working business plan with well-projected growth numbers is key when applying for commercial bank credit. A good business plan signals to the lender how serious you are about your business and that you have put significant thought into it. Financial accounting and organized ledgers aid the financial projections used for the business plan. It is also important to get a qualified accountant to help you organize your financial accounting records and do the projects for your business plan if you are not skilled to do it on your own. The 5 Cs of Commercial Credit: Character: your past performance with your credit obligation, that is how you manage your personal and your business credit. Capacity: is the business doing well? Does it generate sufficient cash flow? Are the projections from the business plan reasonable? Capital: does the entrepreneur have anything to contribute to the deal, any cash set aside? In essence, a down payment on the loan like one would do when purchasing a house. Collateral: whether you have property or assets to pledge to secure the loan. Contingency: does what the borrower is asking for make sense? As an African immigrant “not doing anything is not an option, - Perpetual Amoah “It takes a network to scale a business”, - Mballou Conde- Kouyate. Perpetual Amoah, is the founder and owner of Kaneshie Market LLC, a retailer, and wholesaler of authentic African, the Caribbean, and Latin American groceries and products. What started in 2017 as an operation run from Perpetuals car in 2017 has become a 2700 sq. ft. store with ample inventory for her clients. In the beginning, Perpetual would drive to church and to people's homes to sell African groceries and products. As she learned the significance that these products had on her community, and she gained the trust of her clients from Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America, Perpetual evolved her business to run from the basement of her garage.Soon it became clear that she would need to expand her business. Today, Perpetuals Supermarket carries authentic goods for her community, but perhaps more importantly, it demonstrates that business growth and ownership is possible for a determined immigrant woman entrepreneur. What you will learn from this episode: A well-structured working business plan with well-projected growth numbers is key when applying for commercial bank credit. The universal language of music allows audiences to be swept away -- many times into different cultures, all from the comfort of their seats. The Trio Griot, performing at An die musik this Sunday, brings together for the first time the talents of saxophonist TK Blue, pianist Janelle Gill and Amadou Kouyate. Kouyate, who performs traditional music from Senegal and Mali, draws on a long family lineage of cultural storytelling … and always holds his audience in mind as he performs: “The more vulnerable I can be in telling my truth through my music, the more it disarms people to be able to connect in their truth.” Links: Trio Griot at An die musik, Amadou Kouyate, Janelle Gill,TK Blue See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Parent Kate Kouyate and President Ron Cole of Kyneton Soccer Club discuss the sorely-needed facilities upgrades at their ground, including preventing the pitch from flooding and adding fit-for-purpose female changerooms. Kate discusses her daughters’ love of the game, the influence of the Matildas and W-League players as role models, and Ron emphasizes the exponential growth the club has seen in female participation.

For this episode, we are hella excited to interview our beautiful friends Noor Chadha and Aminta Kouyate, medical and graduate students at the UC Berkeley-UCSF Joint Medical Program and founding team members of the Institute for Healing and Justice in Medicine. Together, we talk more with Noor and Aminta about their work demanding and advocating for an anti-racist medicine through their research and student activist efforts. We talk with Noor and Bernie about their recent public launch of their inaugural "Toward the Abolition of Biological Race in Medicine: Transforming Clinical Education, Research, and Practice" (co-authored by Noor, Bernie, Maddy Kane, and Brenly Rowland). We also talk with Aminta about leading a rally and protest through the White Coats 4 Black Lives (WC4BL) Berkeley chapter on demanding that racism be recognized as a public health issue. In addition, we learn more about their work being part of the founding team of the Institute for Healing and Justice in Medicine and their philosophy on being a student/community activist alongside the many responsibilities that come with being a student and human! Read the report at the Institute for Healing and Justice in Medicine website: www.instituteforhealingandjustice.org WC4BL Berkeley on Instagram: @wc4bl_berkeley Noor Chadha is a 2nd year med student at the UC Berkeley-UCSF Joint Medical Program who strives to integrate compassion, justice, and joy throughout her life and medical career. A West Ham player scored four goals in one game. West Ham scored four goals in one game. We know, it’s still a bit weird to even say those words out loud knowing they are fact and not just our fading and dying dreams. Michail Antonio’s form since football’s return has been outstanding and was capped with his quartet of strikes in our 4-0 win over Norwich last weekend, which had initially left us all but sage. But then Bournemouth and Aston Villa won and we’re pretty much back where we started, with a huge home fixture over Watford this Friday night. Many believe that just a point against the Hornets will be enough thanks to our superior goal difference over the clubs in and around us, but three points will surely ensure we’re a Premier League team next season. And that’s naturally the main topic of conversation on this week’s show, with James, Will and Tom looking back on the Norwich win, ahead to the massive Watford clash and also discussing all the little details in between; Haller’s future, Kouyate’s regret at turning down Spurs, Soucek and Bowen’s impact, fans returning to stadiums and much, much more. The boys were also joined by Andy from the Stairway to 7th Watford Podcast, who was just as nervous as everyone else on the show ahead of Friday, and then the famous Mystery Players Quiz master Reece Bayliss. Reece joined the lads to talk about his new West Ham Legends business and to take part in the quiz from the other side of the ramp for the first-ever time. It’s an action-packed show as always and as always, well worth a listen to get yourself warmed up for the final three fixtures of what has been a woeful season at West Ham. Following his studies in Business Management and Social Sciences at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar/ capital city of Senegal, Issa Kouyate founded the Non-Profit Organization called "Maison De La Gare" and he is currently the president. His organization help rescue children from the streets of Senegal precisely Saint-Louis, one of the cities in Senegal. Issa Kouyate is a Senegalese born and has spent his whole life in Senegal. In this episode, he explains how, in a time of despair, he gives hope to these abandon children. We spoke about his organization that he founded since 2007.He explained how some people disguise themselves as marabout teachers just to enrich themselves by sending children in the street of Senegal to beg for food and money. Marabout teacher means Muslim religious leader and teacher and also means Koranic Teacher in Senegal. In Senegal at least 50,000 children are subjected to conditions akin slavery and forced to endure often extreme forms of abuse, neglect, and exploitation by their Teachers. That is according to Human Rights Watch. Issa Kouyate’s organization is one of the very few organizations in Senegal that is helping to improve the lives of theses abandon children otherwise called Talibe Street children by getting them off the street and providing them with a place to sleep, eat, and be treated. I respect Issa Kouyate, he is a person who is a true leader and a great human being. As I spoke him, I could sense that his mindset about helping these children is undeterred. It was an honor to have had an interview with Issa koyate(issa.kouyate@mdgsl.com). I hope you get a lot out of this interview.

Coming the week after another win at home for the Eagles, this week’s pod is a cheery one. Gary Cahill kept another clean sheet against Norwich City and the former England captain was full of praise for his teammates and the Palace staff after accepting his ManBetX Player of the Month award for September. Another player who has enjoyed a strong start to the season is Cheikhou Kouyate. He sat down with a host broadcasters in the build-up to the facing his former club West Ham United, and in this week's pod he illuminates Premier League Productions. Moving on to a far less illuminating man, Statman loitered at the back of the Lower Holmesdale for a chat with Chris, and this week the pair cover everything from live streams to lawn-mowing. Finally, it’s time to hear what imaginative new questions await Roy Hodgson in his pre-West Ham press conference.
Today you get to hear a panel discussion from the LA Beyond Limits Business Salon, featuring Nati Braunstein, Jessie Marcus, and Michelle Raimo Kouyate. Nati, Jessie, and Michelle all play different roles within the film industry, but they also share one significant understanding: it is possible to maintain a healthy norm, regardless of the industry, if you look to your own resilience and resourcefulness.
Today I speak with film producer, Michelle Raimo Kouyate, about her approach to keeping calm in an industry where chaos is the norm. As a producer, problem-solving and “putting out fires” is a large part of the job. She used to believe that “wrestling” these problems and aggressively charging ahead was required in order to get things done. She didn’t, at the time, realize how much of her suffering was self-inflicted. Michelle shares what has changed since looking in the direction of thought, including one very important lesson we can all benefit from: sometimes the way to find our natural momentum is by taking a step back. Michelle Raimo Kouyate is an Academy Award-nominated producer whose credits include Silver Linings Playbook, Chocolat, The Shipping News, Puss In Boots and An Unfinished Life. She has vast and varied experience, working in both live action and animation as both an executive and a producer. She is the principal of MRK Productions, which is based at Sony Pictures. Prior to having her own production company, Michelle was President for Sony Pictures Animation and SVP of Development and Production at Miramax Films.

Balla Kouyate is a griot and virtuoso player of the balaphon. Considered the predecessor of the xylophone and the first Mande instrument, the balafon is made up of wood slats of varying lengths. The slats are secured over two rows of calabash gourds, which serve as natural amplifiers. Each gourd is punctured with small holes over which Balla places thin plastic tape. The vibrating air rattles the plastic to create the desired sound. Were he back home in Mali, Balla would use spider webs (collected from kitchen walls) to cover the holes. The first known balafon dates back to the 13th century and remains under the guardianship of the Kouyate family. It is considered a UNESCO-protected Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Once a year it is brought out and played during a ceremony. In this concert Kouyate performs with singer Adjaratou "Tapani" Demba, Sekou "Pablo" Dembele, Makane Kouyate, Idrissa Kone, Daniel Day, and Raja Kassis. Speaker Biography: To say that Kouyate was born into a musical family is an understatement. His family lineage goes back over 800 years to Balla Faseke, the first of an unbroken line of djelis, or griots, in the Kouyate clan. The members of this family are regarded as the original praise-singers of the Malinke people, one of the ethnic groups found across much of West Africa. Djelis are the oral historians, musicians and performers who keep alive and celebrate the history of the Mande people of Mali, Guinea and other West African countries. Kouyate frequently performs traditional music at weddings, baptisms, and other domestic ceremonies within the West African immigrant communities of Boston, New York City, and beyond, and also leads the fusion group World Vision. He often accompanies kora master Mamadou Diabate, 2009 Grammy winner in Traditional World Music, and in 2004 joined NEA National Heritage Fellow Sidiki Cond Kouyate for a month-long residency at Carnegie Hall. In 2010, Balla Kouyate was awarded a Massachusetts Cultural Council Fellowship in the Traditional Arts.
