DO NOT bring extra people if not listed on the invite. (Understand there are times when unexpected family may be visiting, etc. First analyze your situation, can these extras enjoy a day or evening being "Tourists" in your town or visiting sites nearby? If not, make sure you ask the host first before ever bringing additional guests. ALWAYS ask, "What can I bring?". Even when the answer is "no", always still bring a bag of chips or at least a gift for the host. Our "Go-To Host Gift" is a bottle of wine. Everyone has different "House Rules". Be respectful. If you notice that shoes are taken off at the door to use the bathroom, follow suit. Same goes, if in questions when going "in-doors", always take off your shoes! Drinks. Most gatherings in this day in age are BYOB, meaning Bring Your Own Beverage. If the party has drinks served, be respectful and drink what is offered regardless of the brand or preferences. An event is not cheap to host, so be respectful! Bottled Water or Red Solo Cups. Finish the bottled water before opening another, and if you're afraid of your bottle or cup being lost in the party - use a black marker and write your initials or name on it. This is a BIG start to being invited to future events and neighborhood BBQs! Episode 178 Details ROAD MAPS - WHY TO USE Many of us have become addicted to our phones, have allowed electronics to replace much of what we use in life. What about finding your destination? Getting from one location to another. There are many reasons to make sure your vehicle always has a Road Map or Road Atlas. First reasons are simple, even though it seems there is cellphone or mobile phone service everywhere, in reality there is not. If you are traveling and your carrier goes down, your phone potentially could not navigate correctly. Also, there are many areas when on the back roads or touring the backcountry where there is no cell service and limited satellite reach too. Having that road map can result in you safely finding your destination.   Youth and road maps; love this combination. Encourage you to use road maps as improving cognitive skills in kids, children, youth as well as the older generation. Cognitive skills are ones to always try to keep sharp!   FAVORITE FISH TO CATCH Guest: Johnnie Candle; Pro Angler, Guide & Speaker. MEAL PREP FOR SUMMER NOW Before we know it the warmer temperatures will be here meaning fewer hours wanting to be spent cooking. Now as you are making your favorite recipes such as those using hamburger as an example. Make extra! That's right, make a double, triple batch and then freeze in containers ready to go for the next camping trip to family gathering! On the recent episode of Bass Cast Radio, we had Todd Walters join us to talk about his life as a fisherman. Todd has been all over, fishing and competing, and he's got a lot of cool stories and ideas to share. One thing he talked about a lot was how fishing isn't just about throwing a line into the water like it used to be. Now, there's all this high-tech gear like forward-facing sonar that's changing the game. It's cool, but it also means fishermen need to learn new skills to keep up.Todd also talked about how being good at fishing competitions isn't just about understanding fish or the water. It's also about being ready to change your plans fast, depending on the weather or the fish's mood. Plus, he made a big point about staying healthy, both in your body and your mind. It makes sense because fishing can be pretty tough, especially in big tournaments. The gang had a great time talking about watching professional bass fishing competitions, especially on lakes they've never been to. It's like a strategy game, trying to guess what the pros will do next. Todd gave us a peek into his daily life too, which was super interesting. Besides actually fishing, he works with companies that make fishing gear, helping them come up with new stuff that makes fishing even better. We ended up chatting about futuristic stuff like Artificial Intelligence (AI) in fishing. Imagine having sunglasses that not only protect your eyes but also show you where the fish are. Sounds like something from a sci-fi movie, right? And, of course, we all got excited planning our next fishing trip together and making sure we don't miss the Redcrest event, which is a big deal in the fishing world. All in all, Todd's visit was a reminder of how fishing is evolving and how important it is to stay on top of these changes. Whether it's learning new technology or just making sure you're fit enough to reel in the big one, there's always something new on the horizon in fishing.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://patreon.com/BassCastRadio?utm_medium=unknown&utm_source=join_link&utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator&utm_content=copyLinkBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bass-cast-radio--1838782/support.

The futuristic location is in Australia, according to News.com, and has self-service kiosks, digital menu boards and food delivered by robots. McDonald's hopes that this new concept will streamline their operations and provide more efficient dining experiences. We hear often about worker shortages and more use of AI as well as seeing McDonald's locations are already using kiosks in the United States, now the question is when will this become the new “norm” in the USA? Stay prepared before going with a large group and learn the new technology out now at not just McDonalds but many other restaurants too. More and more restaurants are no longer offering printed menus, and are instead moving towards a “Scan QR Code” that then directs you to a menu on the phone. Don't be caught off guard, stay in the know!   FEATURE HOW TO MAKE TRAVEL MEMORIES Guest: Johnnie Candle; Pro Angler, Guide & Speaker. Learn more about this Pro Angler & Fishing Guide or to book here: https://johnniecandle.com/ https://www.facebook.com/JohnnieCandleProfessionalAngler/ Hear how taking the time to stop "Smell the Roses" as the often said, has more relevance especially as a journey through life. If planning a long awaited vacation, have an idea of the sites to see but make sure to reserve time for impromptu stops along the adventure. See that roadside stand selling coconuts, PULL OVER and TRY! That is also part of the great memory making for you and your companions! Often it's the "little things", the moments that didn't go perfect on that long awaited trip that become the most reflected, laughed and cherished. Plus toss the fishing pole along too or if in a new area, reach out and spend the money to try "new waters" to you.   Too often it happens that the road you're traveling may very well be the ONLY time you travel it. So best to take it all in and then fondly remember those cherished memories!    FIELD REPORTS & COMMENTS Call or Text your questions, or comments to 305-900-BEND or 305-900-2363 Or email BendRadioShow@gmail.com FOLLOW Facebook/Instagram: @thebendshow https://www.facebook.com/thebendshow SUBSCRIBE to The Bend YouTube Channel. Episode 149 Details How did you wrap up summer, say goodbye, and Hello to Fall? For many, us included as trees have started to turn, and archery season opens, feel that Labor Day weekend is - The Start To Days of Fall. Tigger & BEC decided to do a “Day RoadTrip” on that Sunday of the long holiday weekend. As let's be real, on this outfit there's no such thing as a "long weekend". These crazy cats took off with the truck loaded with kayaks, and fishing gear and traveled their “own backyard” meaning, stayed within state lines. Driving around a massive lake the two know very well, came upon not one but TWO bays new to them and had vacant beaches. Instead of unloading the gear, Tigger & BEC on the LAST hot day of summer jumped in the lake, enjoying just playing and swimming while soaking up the sun.     SPOTLIGHT FAN MAIL We received lots of “Fan Mail” after last week's show when we talked about the recent backcountry expedition done by experienced outdoorsmen who had 3 pack horses tumble 80 feet and thankfully survive! We heard lots of comments, Want to give a shoutout to one listener, Scott Middleton from Alberta, CA - He shared photos of his Tennessee Walkers that they use on rougher terrain. Another listener texted in that he appreciated us sharing about transporting feed across state lines for horses (or any livestock). This individual was stopped and had feed checked for noxious weeds prior to being allowed to enter the national forest. Before heading to the backcountry including the national forests or grasslands, if you are crossing state lines it is highly recommended to contact your local veterinarians as Coggins tests, health certificates or even brand releases may be required as well as contact all states you Game and Fish departments you will be traveling through to your final destination. NEWS PADDLEBOARD FISHING Experienced Connecticut fisherman Eddie Carroll went viral in the fishing world when while fishing off his 12-foot paddleboard. What caused the excitement, off the coast of Madison in the Long Island  Sound he hooked a large catch, so big that it began dragging him and the paddleboard. After fighting this monster fish for over an hour, he reeled up to the paddleboard a massive brown shark. Thinking smartly so folks would believe his “Catch Of The Day”, or catch of the year in our book… Eddie Carroll was able to turn on his phone to start recording as evidence to prove the catch. It was figured to roughly be an 8-foot Brown Shark, in which this fisherman did cut the line for the next lucky angler. We've got the video - Head to TheBendShow.com to watch this INCREDIBLE catch of a lifetime! ANIMALS DON'T STOP FOR PASSPORT CONTROL According to NPR - Apparently Wild or not, animals don't stop at passport control, including the reindeer that graze on the border of Norway and Russia. Forty-two crossed into Russia, and now the Norwegian government has to pay Russia for the loss of grassland - more than $4,000 per reindeer. The animals are just going where the grass takes them, I guess. So now Norway is repairing an old fence there to try to rein in their deer… like that pun.. but on a serious note… Norwegian officials, according to Fox 5 NY, state the work of building and fixing the border fence is a challenge, as the workers have to stay on the Norwegian side of the border "AT ALL TIMES" during construction, which as you can imagine is making the work extra demanding. As for example; If a worker crossed into Russian territory, without a Russian visa, that would amount to illegal entry.   These reindeer have truly stirred the pot or shaken up a hornets' nest as Russia has sent two compensation claims thus far. One claim is for $ 4,700 USD per reindeer that crossed into Russia to graze in a nature reserve. In addition, the second claim is asking for a lump sum of nearly $4.4 million in total for the days the animals grazed in the nature reserve park, which consists mostly of lakes, rivers, forests, and marshland. The returned reindeer belonged and were herded by the Indigenous Sami people in central and Arctic Norway.  However, upon return, the animals have since been slaughtered out of fear that they may wander back to Russia. SAMUAL ADAMS “WHEELHAUS DUNKEL” The beer manufacturer Samual Adams is at it again, brewing up something special for upcoming Oktoberfest celebrations. Watch your stores as they have released a new pretzel beer named “Wheelhaus Dunkel”. The beer is said to be made with brioche-style soft pretzels and salt. This has BEC extremely curious as brioche-style buns for example typically have a sweeter flavor, so could this be a sweet & salty like beer? If you find it, let us know your thoughts! FYI - those dreaming of being in Munich, Germany for the OFFICIAL Oktoberfest, you best get your tickets booked. This years festival runs September 16th - October 3rd, 2023. However here in the USA, we tend to celebrate most of September thru the end of October! So enjoy the new Samual Adams “Wheelhaus Dunkel” as it's being offered for only a limited time. BEC & Tigger dive into the dog days of summer as they are upon us. There's a new study from Harvard University that dogs are 11% more likely to bite on a sunny or hot day than on a rainy day. Remember, if you are feeling uncomfortable in the hot weather months so are our pets. Always have available shade, fresh cool water and give them less activity. SPOTLIGHT Our Spotlight shines this week on the National High School Finals Rodeo taking place as we speak in Gillette, Wyoming. “75 Years of Roping, Riding and Mentorship” is the theme as Top Cowboys & Cowgirls compete in the 75th Anniversary of this epic event, the National High School Final Rodeo. Deemed the “World's Largest Rodeo”, the NHSRA Finals features more than 1,700 contestants representing 44 states, and 5 Canadian Provinces, as well as coming from as far as Australia, New Zealand, and Mexico. These top-notch Cowboys and Cowgirls are competing for more than just huge cash and prizes, but also there is more than $375,000 in college scholarships and hope to be named the National High School Finals Rodeo World Champion. Events include: Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronc and Bull Riding in the rough stock events where 8 seconds never took so long. Barrel Racing, Breakaway Roping, Tie Down Roping, Team Roping, Steer Wrestling, Goat Tying, and Pole Bending in the timed events where SECONDS, hundredths of a second can make or break the win! Cutting & Reining Cow Horse top the Judged Events. Plus the annual Queen competition… And LASTLY an added competition over recent years; that has us here at The Bend Show extremely excited is Shooting Sports. Included are competitions in the rifle .22 caliber and shotgun trap shooting. “Life Long Sports” being recognized on a national level for our youth always is a thumbs up on this outfit. We wish ALL contestants competing as we speak, having traveled near or far, to make the most memorable time while in Gillette, Wyoming!   NEWS Taiwan - Has a new dish that everyone's excited about!! I could see some of our southeastern fans already ahead of the game on this Trending Food Dish. The dish is Frog Ramen, it'll cost you about $8 American money, and is ramen noodles served with a whole frog on the top. The broth, liquid contains scallion onions and clams. Now I do enjoy Frog Legs… and love ramen, however at this point, I'll be passing on this delicacy of a dish for now! iPhone Alert Launched - The Apple iPhone has gained a new feature called the “Screen Distance” alert. This alert will sound if the iPhone is held too close to your face. Apple says, “Increasing the distance the device is viewed from can help children lower their risk of myopia and gives adult users the opportunity to reduce digital eye strain.” Think about it, have you been dealing with symptoms that could be from using your smartphone too close? Apple has also stated, “Screen Distance in Screen Time uses the TrueDepth camera to encourage users to move their device farther away after holding it closer than 12 inches from their face for an extended period of time.”  Deodorant - Yay or Nay when spending time outdoors? Current Biology Journal has published a new study revealing that wearing deodorant reduces the risk of mosquito bites by 56%. Mosquitoes can pick up body odor 350 feet away! Wearing deodorant makes a person less attractive to mosquitoes because they do not like the fragrant smell or a compound found in deodorants called isopropyl tetradecanoate. Beach Umbrellas & SPF Makeup Are Useless Cleveland Clinic released a new study revealing that SPF makeup and umbrellas to shield yourself from the sun is INEFFECTIVE. Researchers studied scores of people… What was discovered was that 78% of individuals using a beach umbrella still ended up with a sunburn. AND that 25% of the study participants who used SPF Makeup were sunburned. Experts state, prior to using SPF Makeup, first apply a good broadspectrum sunscreen to your face then allow time for it to dry before applying and going about your normal make-up routine! BES T be safe and beat not just the aging process but the skin cancer risk especially! https://health.clevelandclinic.org/is-the-sunscreen-in-your-makeup-enough/   How To Hook Fish In The Weeds? Now that summer is hot across the country and beyond, that means the vegeation has become often times our biggest battle us anglers face. This week Pro's Pointers come from Johnnie Candle, Pro Angler and Fishing Guide. Solutions are offered to beat the weeds, hook the walleyes and keep tight lines in order to land the fish.   The Bend Field Staffer: Johnnie Campbell; learn more or book a guided trip visit JohnnieCandle.com Facebook: @JohnnieCandleProfessionalAngler As we fish deeper depths, the North Dakota Game & Fish is encouraging anglers to consider when landing walleye and other deeper species to keep those fish versus returning to the water (catch & release). Because the temperature difference is so great from the deeper levels past 25 feet, bringing these fish to the surface lowers their chance of survival greatly if released back into the water. Learn more here.   CRAZY AUCTION FINDS & WHAT CAN COST Last week Tigger had a great interview with Amber Haugland of Hauglands Action Auction. Amber Haugland is a female auctioneer, hear what she has to say when asked what crazy item got sold in a vehicle at auction... It's definitely not for ALL eyes. OOPS. Then hear how one man's junk is another treasure. She shares how selling a tractor auction in Minnesota shocked many as this auction was a treasure containing tractors where only maybe 10 were left in existence. The tractors brought HUGE amounts of money! Take a listen!   Feature Guest: Amber Haugland, licensed auctioneer. Hauglands Action Auction https://hauglandsactionauction.com/ https://www.facebook.com/HauglandsActionAuction HEALTH WATCH Night Owls Die Younger: The Chronobiology International Journal has published a new study revealing that night owls are more likely to die younger than non-night owls. 20,000 people were studied, and it was discovered that night owls make poor lifestyle choices. Activities available late at night tend to not be the healthiest choices. Examples include it's more tempting for drinking, smoking and eating poorly. After dark, people are less likely to be eating salads and exercising. The study revealed that night owls have a 21% greater chance of dying younger than people whom call themselves a “Morning Person”.   COOKING TREND And now for a little, What's Cooking or NOT Mustard Diet Is Trending:   A social media influencer is claiming to have lost 80 pounds on what she's calling, “The Mustard Diet”. Using zero-calorie mustard, the influencer is dunking vegetables and fruit into it, and the protein source is cottage cheese and chicken sausage.  NOW - BEC's got an issue with this. How sustainable is it to live off of just cottage cheese forever??? As for Mustard itself. We are one hundred percent about keeping this natural and low-carb, low-calorie condiment on hand for ALL your meals! Our favorite by far is Mickey's Mustard! Are they a sponsor of this show, you bet! But that is because we are selective, picky and only direct you to where we feel your money is well spent. We love using Mickey's Mustard on everything from Eggs Benedict to smothering on our pork loins to even turning into a vinaigrette on our salads. 101 uses for the stuff and it's not going to hurt the waistline either!  https://www.mickeysmustard.com/   FIELD REPORTS & COMMENTS Call or Text your questions, or comments to 305-900-BEND or 305-900-2363 Or email BendRadioShow@gmail.com FOLLOW Facebook/Instagram: @thebendshow SUBSCRIBE to The Bend YouTube Channel.   Website: TheBendShow.com https://thebendshow.com/ #catchBECifyoucan #tiggerandbec #outdoors #travel #cowboys The Outdoors, Rural America, And Wildlife Conservation are Center-Stage. Visit North Dakota this summer, and plan to catch the Chancy Williams Concert and the 144th Mandan Rodeo Days in North Dakota over the Fourth of July!   NEWS Columbia - This was the biggest story last weekend, one that touched all heartstrings. Four children were found last weekend alive in a jungle in Columbia. The siblings had been missing for 40 days following a plane crash that took the life of their mother and pilots. The children were ages 13, 9, 4, and 11 months. They were able to stay alive thanks to the 13-year-olds knowledge of survivor skills.  Small footprints were discovered at the crash site leading search teams to believe the children were still alive in the rainforest, which is home to jaguars, snakes, and other predators. The knowledge of fruits and jungle survival skills kept the siblings alive. Florida - Officials are warning people not to walk dogs near bodies of water, especially as it is alligator mating season. Recently a Florida man saved his dog from an alligator attack. The man was walking the dog along a river bank when an alligator came out of the water and snatched it. The man jumped on top of the alligator and freed his dog. This event spurred the Florida Wildlife Officials again to remind all walking near bodies of water to be on alert and definitely avoid if with pets. Illinois - a 9-year-old Wyoming, Illinois girl has gone viral for catching a Largemouth Bass with a McDonald's Chicken McNugget. The bass weighed 5 lbs. The girl stuck her McNugget on her hook before tossing her lure into a body of water. She reeled the bass in by herself… And this isn't the first time she's been adventurous with her choices of bait. She's had success too with crackers & gummy worms…. LOL… BEC says, HEY - WHATEVER WORKS, and WHATEVER gets kids outside!! FBI WARNING - These things noone is a fan of reporting on however, it is vital that we are all aware and up to date on the latest technology, especially when it could be a potential threat. The FBI is warning people to be careful when posting selfies online. Scammers and hackers are stealing the photos and then using artificial intelligence (AI) and deepfake technology to extort people. This is BAD stuff. The scam artists are placing people's faces on other people's naked bodies in which they then threaten to send pictures or videos to the victim's friends, family, and co-workers.  The FBI says the scammers ask for money to not send the fake, X-rated material. THIS is a topic to discuss with your family too as our youth are becoming younger and younger having full access to various social media as well as with the elderly.  One tip that BEC can offer is that before sharing photos on social media, like Facebook or Instagram, Snapchat, BeReal, etc... Take the time now to check your privacy settings, so that you are ONLY sharing information with people you want to be and to keep a close eye on your social media Friends Lists, that there have not been “Ghost accounts” created mirroring someone else which was added to your crew when they should not have been     COOKING, FISHING & WILDLIFE QUESTIONS Tigger has reviewed the vast number of questions received from listeners and fans of The Bend Show. BEC is a huge pickle fan, and where she is from - You love Ranch Dressing and DILL PICKLES of all varieties! The newest Pickle trend is the answer to your need for an easy recipe or easy appetizer. Dip mini or petite dill pickles into warm, melted chocolate and then set on wax paper to harden. If using Kosher pickles, dip them into the warmed chocolate and then roll the pickles in sea salt and let harden. As mentioned, if you know BEC she will be surprising all of her family and friends this summer with this easy Fourth of July appetizer recipe! If you have a fondue pot, consider this as a fun activity too for the kids. So many possibilities with these Pickle Recipes.   Drinking Alcohol and Mosquitos. Another trend across social media has been debunked, drinking Gin & Tonic - we are sorry to report will not WARD OFF mosquitos! BEC & Tigger have heard of many reasons to have a cocktail or two, but not this one until I was approached and then had to investigate. It turns out that drinking alcohol actually makes you slightly more attractive to those biting skeeters, mosquitos. It is advised the best thing one can do is buy a true repellent. Personally, after trying many things; Tigger & BEC have weighed the pros and cons of tick-related diseases such as Lyme disease, one that is often overlooked by the medical world, and now stockpile their household with insect repellents that contain DEET. We know that some of you listening will not agree, and that is OKAY it has just been our family's decision to go after a Deep Woods product that contains preferably 40% Deet. Regardless, this year be sure to NOT be drinking that Gin & Tonic in hopes of warding off the mosquitos, and do plan ahead with some sort of bug repellent!   FIELD REPORTS & COMMENTS Call or Text your questions, comments to 305-900-BEND or 305-900-2363 Or email BendRadioShow@gmail.com FOLLOW Facebook/Instagram: @thebendshow   SUBSCRIBE to The Bend YouTube Channel.   Website: TheBendShow.com https://thebendshow.com/ #catchBECifyoucan #tiggerandbec #outdoors #travel The Outdoors, Rural America And Conservation are Center-Stage. EPISODE DETAILS Fisherman or not, this time of year in June there really isn't a bad spot to toss a line. Pro Angler Johnnie Candle joins our crew. This is Rebecca Wanner aka BEC and Jeff 'Tigger' Erhardt with the outdoors radio show The Bend. We have Outdoors news, spotlight grizzly sightings in Yellowstone, tell about a Ghost Town, plus have your Travel and entertainment headlines. Be sure to tune into The Bend Show!   SPOTLIGHT   In case you needed some extra good news today, The Queen of the Tetons is still with us. The famous grizzly named 399 emerged from hibernation.  She's the oldest known bear in the Yellowstone ecosystem, spanning 7 decades of records, to give birth at the age of 27. Queen of the Tetons, Grizzly 339 was photographed last month with a new cub at her side. AND This leads to a great reminder! MANY animals are now with or about to be with, their babies. From cubs to calves to fawns; never be “That Guy” approaching to try photographing wildlife. There's always a joke or meme at this time of year, “Don't Pet The Fluffy Cow” aka Buffalo or Bison. That holds true on anything from Moose, they are mean, to of course mountain lions to bears. Enjoy the view, Be in the Moment. Do not approach wild animals especially while with their young.     NEWS   Poor Driving Hereditary - NOW if you've got a family gathering in your near future? This may just be the topic that could “Stir the Pot” if you're looking to get the goat of some people, or just have fun with a little debate. A study from Scrap Car Comparison has revealed that bad driving might be hereditary. 1,000 drivers were surveyed and was discovered that 66% of these drivers who had tickets also had parents with poor driving records. 50% of the drivers with poor driving parents have received at least one ticket in the past 10 years. 55% of people say that they LEARNED speeding from their parents and 49% of drivers say they learned Road-Raging from their parents…. BEC dares you to bring up THIS TOPIC at your next family bbq! LOL Looking to relocate? How about buy your own town? A Texas ghost town is up for sale for $100,000. The town of Lobo, Texas is located 20 miles from the Mexico border and has been abandoned since 1991. If interested, we wish you the best - the town contains a gas station, a motel, a grocery store and several empty homes. To the north of Lobo is Guatelupe National Park; to the south is Big Bend National Park. North Carolina - is where one man calls home, and this man has not used Toilet paper in ten years. Robin Greenfield of Asheville, NC claims he has not used TP since 2013 and instead uses Blue Spur Flower leaves because they are eco-friendly and the same size as a square of toilet paper. Mr. Greenfield went on to explain that the average American spends over $11,000 on tp over the course of their life. The Blue Spur Flower leaves he claims have a natural, minty scent, and are easy to grow. I'm just going to believe him on that one… and still expect Tigger to pack the biodegradable toilet paper.     JOHNNIE CAMPBELL, PRO ANGLER Meet 30-plus-year veteran pro angler, Johnnie Campbell, as the newest member of The Bend Field staff. Growing up fishing on his father's charter boat on the Great Lakes honing his skills on Lake Erie's central basin. The home has five bedrooms, three fireplaces, an elevator, and a pool.   New country star Parker McCollum says hunting with his wife can be a challenge. He explained in a recent interview that his wife loves wearing lots of fragrances. So while he's sitting in the stand bathed in scent killer, his wife, Parker McCollum jokes is smelling like a field of flowers. It's a growing community of like-minded women supporting each other through Angie's Facebook group. It's turning into a movement and the industry IS taking notice! You can contact me here: email: rick@theoutdoorbizpodcast.com or leave me a message on Speakpipe! Brought to you by: Tee Public Show Notes How were you introduced to Fishing? I started fishing before I can even remember honestly. Minnesota is where I grew up and it's just a culture, it seems like, of outdoors people up there. And so, my dad had a little aluminum fishing boat and a 40-horsepower motor. He still has that same exact boat and motor to this day, which is pretty unheard of. But, he's mechanical and is able to fix most things when something goes wrong with that motor. But, yeah, so, just grew up doing that. When did you begin fishing competitively? So I started that back in 2018. I moved to Nashville back in 1999 and had kind of gotten away from it. I moved down to Nashville and I went to college and then got a job in the music business and that really ended up taking up a lot of my time and kind of pulled me away from, getting out there and fishing.  What were you doing in the music business? So I went to a school in Tennessee that has a really good music business program called Middle Tennessee State University. And I was on the business side. They have a production side. If you're wanting to get into like producing records and things like that, then they also have a business side, and that was really where my interests were. I really had no agenda as far as what I wanted to do in the business. I just knew I wanted to be in the music business. So did that come from family or how, where'd that come from? Yeah, a little bit. So I had an older brother, six years older than me, and that's my only sibling, and he was just really into music growing up. So I got this job at Creative Artist Agency and ends up, they're the biggest talent agency in the country. The world maybe. I did that for 16 years. And I had an interior office for the majority of that time, and that was tough on somebody who really loves the outdoors. I just getting to the point where I'm like, you know, do I really wanna wake up at 65 and have sat behind a desk my whole life? I love going to concerts and meeting cool people, but I don't really wanna do this for the rest of my life. And so that's when I kind of started thinking, what could I do outdoors-oriented? That was when I started working on my captain's license, and started the podcast. What inspired the storytelling part of it? I mean, what better way to inspire somebody else to get involved? Then to hear somebody who's out there doing it every day and how they do it, do it. I just think it's a great way to inspire people. And also be able to preserve their stories exactly for future generations. is another great, great benefit to it. Do you focus mainly on warm-water fishing? I try to cover everything. So I've had a lot of fly anglers on, salt water, I just had a lady on that fishes out of South Carolina offshore quite a bit. so I try to cover everything. I kind of just by default end up covering a lot of bass and freshwater because that's what I do now. But also, you know, when I'm down in Florida, I end up having a lot of. Florida anglers. Every now and then I get a West Coast angler on the show. I'd love to get more, more of those. and also Colorado, that region of fly fishing. So tell everybody about the woman angler. You offer a ton of resources. How'd you, how'd you develop that format? Or did it [00:20:40] just evolve as you kept adding, offering? Yeah, it pretty much just evolved.  At the time when I had a six-month break in between careers, I had a lot more time on my hands to be able to offer more things. but now that I work full-time for Freedom Boat Club and fish Tournaments and put out episodes every week, that's kind of been my bandwidth. We've done a few events like we did, a Cape Cod striper fishing event, and then we've got a women's kayak fishing meetup coming up here on January 8th down here outside of Fort Myers that I'm co-hosting with Captain Debbie Hansen, who's down in this area. And that's gonna be a super fun event. But as far as that goes, I'm kind of limited on time to how much of that type of stuff I can do. Do you have any suggestions or advice for folks that want to get into competitive fishing? Yeah. See if there's a Team Trial that you can join and start that way. Start as an angler you don't have to jump in as a boat captain. Most tournament formats you have a pro that's in control of the boat. Then as an angler you know, if you're super confident with your boat skills, though, by all means, jump in as a boat captain There are advantages and disadvantages to both. I kind of jumped in as a boater a little faster than I think most people would because I have my captain's license Do you have a favorite piece of outdoor gear that costs under a hundred dollars? I love my Costa sunglasses and they just had a new, new model come out recently this fall called the Jose Pros. Do you have any favorite books? There's a book out that's pretty legendary. You may have heard of it, called The Four Agreements. And then, kind of on those same lines, there's another book I've been listening to. I think it's Awaken the Sleeping Giant. But my favorite book is a book called You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero.  Follow Up with Angie Website: That Woman Angler Podcast Instagram Facebook

He is an entrepreneur, an accomplished author, photographer and TV personality.  Pete has authored books, countless articles and educational VIDEOS – as well as being a very popular speaker and “personality” at fishing events and sport shows throughout North America. Pete Maina was named as one of the “Top 20 Anglers on the Planet” by Outdoor Life Magazine (June/2011).   Pete works on product development and promotion with the top companies in the fishing industry, specializing in large-predator tackle and associated products. Conservation and “fisheries health” are extremely important; ultimately most important! (As well as having fun, so Pete's goal is combining great how-to information/education with FUN, asking “Who Says Fishing Ain't Cool?”) Realizing this, Pete has been a leader in educating and promoting catch and release, selective harvest, proper (most fish-friendly) handling – and simply getting folks excited about putting “Fisheries First” for decades.   Pete has appeared as an expert on numerous TV shows, regularly-so on the Midwest's most popular TV show – “John Gillespie's Waters and Woods”, as well as appearances on Mark Zona's “Zona's Awesome Fishing Show” on The Outdoor Channel and Dave Mercer's “Facts of Fishing” on WFN; and has filmed multiple muskie segments for Bass Pro Shop's “Outdoor World”.   Pete is a pro-staffer and product consultant for: Amsoil, Bigtooth Tackle Co., Clam Outdoors, Livingston Lures, Campion Boats, Seaguar, Lakewood Tackle Boxes, Savage Gear, Johnson Pumps, and Eagle Claw.   Capt. Ross Robertson has made his complete living chasing walleye as a full time professional angler for more than 20 years. Through the years he has worn many hats including time as a fishing guide, boat salesman, TV host, outdoor writer, product designer, tournament fisherman, speaker, radio host and podcaster to name a few.  Ross fishes ice-out to ice-up on the Great Lakes.
