In this action-packed episode ofFriends Talking Nerdy, Professor Aubrey and Tim the Nerd dive into a vibrant mix of pop culture, nostalgia, and tech controversy, delivering a conversation that's as dynamic as it is enlightening.Madonna Mania:The episode kicks off with an in-depth tribute to the Queen of Pop herself—Madonna. Professor Aubrey and Tim the Nerd share their personal favorites and dissect the cultural impact of hits like"Lucky Star," "Ray Of Light," "La Isla Bonita," "Music," "Like A Virgin," "Express Yourself," "Holiday," "Papa Don't Preach," "Justify My Love," and"Like A Prayer." Listeners are treated to a rich analysis of the musical innovation, lyrical storytelling, and enduring influence behind each track. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to Madonna's legacy, this segment offers fresh insights and a few surprises along the way.GLOW and the Legacy of Women's Wrestling:Switching gears, the duo turns their attention to the Netflix phenomenonGLOW, a show that rekindles the spark of the original women's professional wrestling spectacle, “The Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling.” Tim the Nerd recounts his recent binge-watch, peppering the discussion with references to a compelling documentary that chronicles the lives and struggles of the original GLOW performers. The conversation thoughtfully explores how, despite its humble and somewhat clunky beginnings, the pioneering spirit of women's wrestling helped lay the groundwork for the dynamic and empowered presentations seen today. Fans of both wrestling and compelling biographical storytelling will find this segment both nostalgic and inspiring.Tech Talk: Zuckerberg, Fact Checking, and the Future of Social Media:In a shift to the digital realm, Professor Aubrey and Tim the Nerd dissect the controversial policy change by Mark Zuckerberg—removing fact checking from Meta services in favor of community standards. Drawing parallels to recent shifts on Twitter (now known as X), they debate the implications of this move on the spread of misinformation, community trust, and the overall health of online discourse. With thoughtful commentary and sharp analysis, the hosts examine whether this policy shift marks a new era for digital communication or if it poses unforeseen challenges for truth and accountability online. As always, we wish to thank Christopher Lazarek for his wonderful theme song. In the mid 80s a new concept in women's wrestling stormed onto the scene and made a lasting impact. No longer were the nameless women's matches used as an added attraction on par with Terrible Ted the wrestling bear, G.L.O.W. developed a program that focused on characters and personality and storytelling. As the first American promotion that had a television show that featured only women wrestling, it paved the way for decades to come and the G.L.O.W. girls were trailblazers that smashed boundaries. This episode features special guest the Royal Hawaiian from GLOW. The 1980's saw an explosive interest in professional wrestling. While the World Wrestling Federation became the top promotion worldwide, there were a number of independent territorial promotions that were also popular. One that rose to prominence was GLOW -an all female promotion that aired in syndicated markets nationally. The Royal Hawaiian was one of the original Glow Girls and was the second to hold the GLOW Crown -the promotion's equivalent of the world championship. Moreover, she held the crown longer than any other competitor and was the first heel champ. Today, there is a cult following and interest from widespread niche audiences across the internet and social media. Netflix has series that chronicles the promotion. On this episode, we don't cover the GLOW promotion in it's entirety, but we do learn about how it came to be and the process where the roster was established. We also talk about current events surrounding The Royal Hawaiian and we are also joined by Otto Von Clutch - an emerging professional wrestler she manages. Gilpin is a two-time Emmy nominee for her performance as Debbie “Liberty Belle” Eagan. Raised by actors, Gilpin is refreshingly candid about the superficial expectations women grapple with, and her own conflict with the inner “male gaze representative.”

We have spoken to only three non wrestling persons in the history of our show, but all had an involvement in the industry. Chet Coppock, legendary Chicago sportscaster who worked both as a ring announcer for the then WWF and was also the voice of WWF Radio. Evan Ginzburg, one of the producers of the legendary film "The Wrestler", and now tonight, Matt Cimber, the man behind GLOW. While not seen in front of the camera, Matt's presence was indelable inside the room in the Riviera Hotel where GLOW was taped. As we know by our interviews with the GLOW girls, Matt is still loved and respected by them. In addition to GLOW, Matt has an exceptonal résumé that includes numerous off Broadway productions and films and launched careers other than the women we talk about and to, including Oscar winner Sandy Dennis. We will talk to Matt about all the aspects of his career, including not only GLOW but his upcoming return to the wrestling industry with a new show formatted similar to his beloved GLOW. Please note, as we mentioned last night, Matt does have some memory issues so his recollections might be incomplete or he might repeat some stories, please indulge this legendary gentleman as he is honoring us tonight with his presence.

It's hard to believe that the end of summer is coming and we're just a few days away from Labor Day for our US listeners. Now while technically the warm weather shouldn't be leaving us, we couldn't figure of ending summer with the HOTTEST ladies around, the original GLOW girls! Joining us tonight: April Enriquez. Due to circumstances beyond her control, Olympia Hart will not be able to be with us. April, AKA Royal Hawaiian, will be making her second appearance with us. She will fill us in on the latest upcoming GLOW events. Noelle Rose. This is Noelle's second appearance with us. As the evil Soviet Major Tanya, Noelle dispatched opponents like sending dissidents to Siberia. Now, she performs throughout Southern California as Rose Redbirdi, trading promos for song lyrics and her Russian gear for a guitar. Marie Moore. Marie, known as the braniac Zelda, is making her second appearance with us. We'll be able to get more into the design of her character, which many original fans can recognize as the inspiration for Britannica from the Netflix series. Jayne Adams. She was the second California Doll. Her story is not totally unique in that she was a model who got a call from her agent for this new TV concept. However, her total story is very interesting, especially the end of her GLOW run and her current career. Originally our dear friend Sandy Manley, AKA Gremlina was going to join us. Unfortunately Sandy is having meetings with doctors who are taking care of her husband Alan (See her GoFundMe on our page and help if you can) as well as family helping her AND a regular job. We wish her the best. Once again, many thanks to our dear friend, April "Royal Hawaiian" Enriquez for arranging eveything. We hope you will enjoy ending your summer with a GLOW.

Cheryl Rusa, AKA Lightning, is making her second appearance on our airwaves. As well as being a GLOW girl, she worked for Wally Karbo's LPWA and also JWP in Japan. She is as far as we know, rhe only GLOW girl to actively still hold championship gold, holding the AIWA & PCCW Womens Championships as well as the WAW Internet Championship. In addition to wrestling, Cheryl is also a working actress and stunt woman. Lily Crabtree was the second girl to don the gimmick of Corporal Kelly. In adddition to wrestling, she is a musician having been the vocalist for a band called The Explosive Broomhandles (we HAVE to find out the story behind that!) before leaving the West Coast for life back in the Midwest. Annette Marroquin, AKA Jungle Woman still enjoys an amazing popularity among GLOW fans. This is her first interrview talking about GLOW. Annette is an Illinois Valley native, having grown up in DePue. Not only was Annette a pageant winner, she was also a USFL and NFL cheerleader. It was during those days that she met and became friends with two other women who would also become GLOW girls, and one would become a WWE Hall Of Fame member. Nadine Kadmiri, AKA Ashley Cartier was born in Las Vegas. she was an NFL & USFL cheerleader. It was during that time that she met Annette Marroquin. The rest, as they say, is history. Get ready to send Steve back to surgery with a fun evening (Sean and Katie will be there too).

Tonight we continue our series of interviews with the ladies who were involved in the cult TV favorite GLOW, Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling. First, we want to thank our new friend who set this up, April Horn Enriquez, known to GLOW fans as Royal Hawaiian. Along with April we will have the following (not listed in order of appearance) Marie "Zelda" Moore-Before The Dudleys came on the scene with their glasses with tape and before Lanny Poffo was The Genius, there was Zelda. Billed as being from Brooklyn with an IQ of over 160, the braniac, who was not the biggest girl in the ring, relied on her intelliigence (and in the case of Godiva, some hair removing spray) to attempt, not always successfully, to defeat her opponents. April "Royal Hawaiian" Enriquez-One of the notorious Bad Girls, Royal Hawaiian was the antihesis of the beloved Mountain Fiji. In fact it was using one of the oldest tricks in the book that allowed her to defeat Tammy Jones to win the GLOW crown. Sharon Willinsky Johnston & Donna Willinsky-"Chaninsaw & Spike-The Heavy Metal Sisters"-This is an exclusive, as the sisters have not done an inteview together since the orignal GLOW documentary that sparked interest in the original show and lead to the development of the Netflix series. The sisters did double duty as they also portrayed the hilarious team of Phyllis & Arlene-The Housewives. As Chainsaw & Spike they were brought to the ring very much like a scene from "Silence Of The Lambs" and were notorious for using flaming ropes, nooses and old fashioned biting. As The Housewives, the sisters came to the ring in curlers and face cream like they had just woke up and brought every variety of household item to the ring. Get ready!

Show Rundown: In this week’s episode, friend of the show Ben Weddell, host of Big Ben’s Movie Show, joins Chris for a review of “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” Why am I not reviewing it, too? Because I actually decided to wait to see it opening day. I’m not as inpatient as my co-host who just HAD to see it early and review it right away. OR maybe I have a life and I can’t stop everything to see yet another Spider-Man movie. Or maybe - just maybe - it’s a scheduling thing. In our second segment, we step into the ring and talk about Netflix’s new series “Glow,” about the Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling. And finally we end our show with what we’re dorking out about this week.    Topic 1: Spider-Man: Homecoming Review (No Spoilers) and the Semi-Annual State of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Well, a few weeks have passed, so that means a new movie in the octopus-like Marvel Cinematic Universe has been released. But this one is a bit different. Spider-Man: Homecoming came out Friday, starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man and Michael Keaton as one of the few great Marvel villains seen on screen, The Vulture. Big deal, you may say. After all, Marvel is churning these movies out one every four months now. And who cares, you may say, this is the seventh major motion picture with Spider-Man since Sam Raimi’s original Tobey Maguire Spider-Man in 2002. But this is the first time Spider-Man has had a whole movie all to himself in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and only the second time MCU uber-producer and Kevin Feige have worked with a rival studio, in this case Spider-Man rights holder Sony, to produce a movie for the MCU. Was the wait and all the fanboy hype over the last two years leading up to this worth it? Joining me today to talk about Spider-Man Homecoming is friend of the show, Ben Weddell, host of Big Ben’s Movie Show and one of the biggest Marvel Zombies I know.   Topic 2: GLOW Season 1 Review and 'Slight' Gems of Netflix Since Dorking Out has a no binge watching-required rule, we have waited long enough to talk about Netflix’s new series, “Glow,” about the Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling. Apparently this was a real syndicated show is the late 80s. I didn’t watch it, and I had never heard of it until I saw this show. This “Glow” is a fictionalized take on the creation of the show starring Allison Brie, Betty Gilpin and Marc Maron. “Glow” is created by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, who worked on “Nurse Jackie,” “Weeds” and “Orange Is The New Black,” and those shows DNA is all over “Glow,” especially “Orange Is The New Black,” and I mean that in a good way. It’s on Netflix. It stars a mostly female cast. And it’s loosely based on a true story. Like “Orange is the New Black” uses prison as its jumping off point, “Glow” is using wrestling to tell funny, interesting, touching stories about women from a variety of backgrounds. In “Glow” Allison Brie is an aspiring actress who thinks she’s kinda above this fake wrestling show, and kinda like Piper in “Orange Is The New Black” she discovers a lot about herself and that she is supposed to be there. I really like this show, and I’m excited to see season 2.    What We’re Dorking Out About This Week: Dorking Out Movie Trade: Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Bring It On Newly unearthed photo suggests Amelia Earhart survived her final flight   Discovery of the HMS Terror in Canada Find The Dorking Out Show here... In anticipation of Netflix’s upcoming scripted series GLOW, this week Nick and Stephen welcome Katie Willert (After Hours on Cracked.com, E! Also, everyone talks about where many of the wrestlers are now and their individual stories of both redemption and tragedy. Plus, Katie reveals the world of “Customs” to the boys, which leads to a very strange discussion about kinky videos and the current well known wrestlers that have graced them in the past.
