S7E30 of TSORR Radio Show went out live at 19h00 on Rebel Rock Radio on 25 July 2024. The show was jam-packed with your favourite features: Twisted Triplets, The Evolution of Iron Maiden, Immortals, The Diabolical Challenge, and a 5-minute chat with Basson Laas. The rest of the show was made up of rock and metal. You can follow us on Facebook, X, or Instagram, just search for The Story of Rock and Roll on those sites. The artists featured (see below) are in order of play, so you can get to the stuff you like quickly if you want to. Regarding the above-mentioned, I interviewed Basson Laas, a singer-songwriter who has just released a new track called “Worth Loving”. We chatted for about 8 minutes and played the track. Check out the video on YouTube, it is really cool. It will be the next TSORR newsletter (contact me if you want to be on the TSORR mailing list for the monthly Newsletter). This week on the Twisted Triplets we had three tracks called “Million Miles Away” from Stanley June, Rory Gallagher, and Hanoi Rocks. Stanley June is a South African artist out of Johannesburg. Rory's track is actually called ‘A' Million Miles Away, but it seemed a shame to gong him out for that, let's just say one of the triplets had a slight genetic defect. This week, Immortals came from The Cult, and a track called “White”, taken off their album Ceremony. The Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘F'. The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one. This week we had: Fozzy – Chasing the GrailFaith No More – Album of the YearFall Out Boy – From Under the Cork TreeForeigner – Double Vision Bomb Crocodile and Slow Panda's picks of the week were David Bowie – “Move On” and Gorira – “Our Time Is Now”. Artists Featured: Rammstein, Airbourne, Foo Fighters, Coheed & Cambria, The Answer, Texas Hippie Coalition, Marilyn Manson, Nightwish, Thundermother, Therapy?, The Clash, Deep Purple, Aerosmith, Stanley June, Rory Gallagher, Hanoi Rocks, System of a Down, Black Label Society, Iron Maiden, Basson Laas, Robin Auld, Parkway Drive, Sixx AM, The Cult, Fozzy, Faith No More, Fall Out Boy, Foreigner, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Butch Walker, David Bowie, Gojira, Resurrection Kings, Manowar, Machine Head, Linkin Park. West Bound is an in-your-face five-piece hard rock band from Los Angeles, California. Their unique brand of entertainment fuses powerful bluesy vocals, hard-hitting guitars, a tight rhythm section, and a touch of keyboards which has had them compared to classic bands like Led Zeppelin, Whitesnake, Aerosmith, and modern rock bands like Rival Sons! The band came together after vocalist Chas West (the Jason Bonham Band, Foreigner, Lynch Mob, Tribe of Gypsies) was contacted by Serafino Perugino, President of Frontiers Music srl, about doing a solo album. Perugino loved Chas's vocals/ideas on the self-titled Resurrection Kings record (with Vinny Appice, Craig Goldy, and Sean McNabb) and wanted to do a solo record with him the following year. Serafino wanted him to work with a producer/writer...West was on board and reached out to his old bandmate, friend, and co-writer—the renowned guitarist/producer ROY Z, (Tribe of Gypsies, Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford, Sebastian Bach).

The powerful and versatile singing voice of Chas West is the reason he's considered one of the top hard rock vocalists of his generation. This has led to his performing for such groups as Jason Bonham Band, Tribe Of Gypsies, Lynch Mob, Foreigner & Resurrection Kings. But of all the projects he's ever done none have meant more to them than his current project West Bound. As proven by 2019's offering Volume 1, the band has a classic sound with modern sensibilities that makes for a great listen. S5E16 aired on 21 Apr 2022 on Rebel Rock Radio. Load shedding had been suspended so the amount of distraction and chaos was reduced significantly from last week. We kicked off with a track titled 'Washed Away' by Craig Goldie, and Vinnie Appice of Dio fame's outfit Resurrection Kings. Sadly we are currently experiencing a lot of Natal being washed away so it's relevant to our troubled times. Next up, some Deep Purple, a track called Spanish Archers off their 1987 effort titled House of Blue Light. This features the classic Mark II line-up and the album has been overlooked by many. The next hour was full of typical TSORR rock and metal, we got fluffy with The Eagles, sleazy with Mötley Crüe, heavy with Pantera, and energized by Chickenfoot. As mentioned before Joe Satriani in Chickenfoot is simply amazing. We checked out 'My Name is Allen' off Stone Sour's House of Gold & Bones to mark the fact that Stone Sour will be featured on the next Rock Review and then we had a track off Troublegum, that magnificent ball of venom released in 1994. We did a little feature based on the Phil Wright tapes, I am working through old cassettes of Phil's shows and featured two of the tracks I dug up, 'Love is a Killer' by Vixen, and A cover of The Small Faces classic 'All Or Nothing' by Tygers of Pan Tang. We checked out the new Red Hot Chili Peppers and gave thanks for the return of John Frusciante. No disrespect to Josh Klinghoffer, it's just that John is part of the genetic structure of all the things I do like about RHCP. As usual in the last hour, we get a bit more off the beaten track and check out rare and amazing stuff Like Roger Kaye's home recording of 'Lucifer Lives in the Whitehouse' and a track off Deangersmith's latest EP Vocabular Vacation. the track was called 'Escape From Johannesburg' and that is indeed a worthy goal. For the rest, we had some classic Iron Maiden, Avenged Sevenfold, and Sepultura. We took a quick look at Rick Rubin's work with ZZ Top and Johnny Cash, check out his podcast with Lex Fridman for context. Hope you enjoy it and spread it the TSORR word. Cheers m/ Artists featured: Resurrection Kings, Deep Purple, Jetboy, The Eagles, Mötley Crüe, Hell Yeah, Pantera, Megadeth, The Dust Coda, Beastie Boys, Chickenfoot, Stone Sour, Therapy?, Avenged Sevenfold, Iron Maiden, My Chemical Romance, Nickelback, Richard Thompson, Anti-Flag, Scorpions, Tygers of Pan Tang, Vixen, Sham 69, Stiff Little Fingers, Roger Kaye, Deangersmith, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sepultura, Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown, Thin Lizzy, Manowar, Man As Machine, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, The Uninvited, The Doors, ZZ Top, Johnny Cash, Francois Van Coke, Kid Rock, Volbeat.

EP 521 featuring Guitarist Craig Goldy
Episode 41 of Season 4 contained 40 songs which is probably a record for the show. It aired at 19h00 on 15 Oct 2021. It was a fairly joyous affair, we had no load shedding and I got my car back from the garage, I think the mood permeated the show.We kicked off with Black Spiders out of Sheffield and then checked out Craig Goldies, ex Dio's, band Ressurection Kings from their 2016 release of the same name. We pulled in some big guns in the form of W.A.S.P. and Skid Row and then took in two in a row with Chris Cornell on vocals. The early stuff was taken care of by Mott the Hoople, The Rolling Stones, and The Who. There was some commentary around the fact that the Stones have dropped 'Brown Sugar' from their new live set supposedly because of pressure from the politically correct. I played 'Some Girls' to highlight the Overton Window. The Who sounded great with '1921' off Tommy. We checked out the new Black Label society track off the new album Doom Crew Inc which will probably be called Doom Squad forever on TSORR. A highlight for me was the new Joe Bonamassa release called 'Time Clocks'. I had a bit to say about the amount of hate Joe gets these days and highlighted the fact that this song is an anthem. Give it time to grow on you, Joe is amazing, I am grateful he keeps giving us an album a year where most artists keep us waiting 5 or more years. We went to the UK for 4 tracks, especially enjoyable was Death of the Clown by Dave Davies. SA music was taken care of by Blue Scream, L.A. Cobra, and The Color Blew. Blue Scream, was a Tully McCulley project with Roger Kaye and Robin Gallagher involved. You can read more about the band and Roger in The Story of Rock and Roll, he was a hell of a character. We hit the home straight with the two Toms, Petty and Waits, and an almost country and western track from Lynyrd Skynyrd off the God and Guns album. Special shout out to In Flames and Trivium for bringing the heavy. The New Trivium In The Court of The Dragon is stellar. Artists featured: Black Spiders, Resurrection Kings, Smith / Kotzen, W.A.S.P., Skid Row, Audioslave, Temple of the Dog, Jorn, Wolfmother, The White Stripes, Live, King Kobra, Mott the Hoople, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Whitesnake, Baton Rouge, Extreme, The Eagles, L7, The Pretty Reckless, Black Label Society, The L.A. Maybe, Loverboy, In Flames, Trivium, Joe Bonamassa, Seether, Oasis, Dave Davies, Stiff Little Fingers, The Dogs D'Amour, Blue Scream, L.A.Cobra, The Color Blew, Alice Cooper, Tom Waits, Tom Petty, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Halestorm, The Lazys
On this episode, Mark Strigl speaks with Tommy Krash formerly of Britny Fox, He is currently working with Tim Ripper Owens in the Leviathan Project. He also has a new project called Infinity Rain which can be heard of Apple Music. The second interview is with Tom Wallace of the project Guild of Others which also features Derek Sherinian, Steve Potts, Tony Fraklin, Craig Goldy, and others.Check out Guild of Others on SoundCloud.Guild of Others on FacebookGuild Of Other Bio: "Guild of Others accomplish the near impossible, and that is making progressive metal that is accessible," proclaims venerated rock author/critic Martin Popoff. High praise from someone steeped in musical knowledge and history. He continued, "This sounds like thinking man's stadium rock. In a plethora of old and new school styles, these hooky compositions keep the proceedings earthy and built for the stage." He went on to place Guild of Others' debut among some of the rock world's most legendary and successful acts. "It's songs very much like this that resulted in early notoriety for Rush and even Styx for that matter. There's no reason why Guild of Others can't serve large pockets of fans... who believe in those same ideals toward both heaviness and craftsmanship." Wow! Quite an endorsement.Begun by Tom Wallace (drums) and Steve Potts (guitar), Guild of Others is a collection of musicians from various bands and backgrounds. As songs between the two began taking shape, questions of whom else to bring into the fold arose. Considering the style of music the two were creating, the keyboardist most desired was easy. Derek Sherinian (Sons of Apollo, Dream Theater, BCC, etc...) was top of the list. Upon hearing the demos, Derek's response was perfect. He described the music as, "Aggressive and adventurous. Without being too proggy." He liked it and would add his talents. Among the material were two songs Steve and Tom both felt needed fretless bass. For that, they reached out to well-known bassist, Tony Franklin. (The Firm, Blue Murder, etc...) Steve and Tom were floored by Tony's playing. His style and tone offered everything needed to complete the bottom end. His counter melodies and bass fills were superb. The guys requested he record the six remaining songs and he obliged. For vocals, local singer Mark Hammond was tapped for six of the songs. Michael Sadler (Saga) and Henrik Bath (Dark Water) lend their talents for the remaining two. The three vocalists offer three unique sounds and styles. All of which work perfectly for the material. In addition to the musicians already mentioned, guitar shredder Craig Goldy (Dio, Resurrection Kings) offers a blistering solo on "Veil of Insanity". As an added treat, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Michael Bruce (Alice Cooper) and wife Lynette contribute the doting parents' voice-over for "Memento".The "Others" part of Guild of Others suggests future recordings will always involve other musicians. Tom and Steve are the driving force behind Guild of Others. They will remain. While always appreciating those who have participated in this debut effort and welcoming their return, there is already material for a second album. with hopes of bringing in new names and making new friends. ____________________Find all-things Mark Strigl here: MarkStrigl.netFollow Mark Strigl on Twitter: @talkingmetal Follow Mark Strigl on Instagram.Support this show by making a PayPal donation. Please consider sharing this episode on social media and leaving a 5-star review on Apple Podcasts.Get bonus content and support Mark on Patreon for as little as $2 a month: www.patreon.com/talkingmetal#DreamTheater #Tesla #heavymetal #hardrock #talkingmetal #BritnyFox #JudasPriestSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Massive music...
Episode 29 of season 4 aired at 7 pm on Thursday 22 July 2021. It was a difficult show to be honest, as you may well know there is a lot of trouble specific to South Africa at the moment, and like everyone, we are battling Covid. This insidious virus claimed the life of Leon Economides on Monday this week. Leon was a mentor to all of us on Rebel Rock Radio, it was Leon who got me on to Mix 93.8 FM and you can say that without Leon you may not be listening to this podcast. Leon was respected throughout the world for his knowledge and passion for the music we love. He genuinely was a walking rock encyclopedia and I say a few words about him during this episode. The airwaves were very quiet for the first 90 min of the show which always makes it hard to choose the music. It felt a bit disjointed at the time but the end result is fine I believe, you can be the judge. Kicking off with some lesser-known bands like Resurrection Kings and Devils Train, we moved through the usual ACDC, Motörhead, Kiss, Whitesnake type fare interspersed with heavy stuff like Pantera, Slayer, and Five Finger Death Punch. The new stuff came from KK's Priest and Iron Maiden and a band of youngsters called AMH. AMH stands for Adam and the Metal Hawks which is what the album is called. This is going to confuse the shit out of everyone, people are not going to know what to call them. But the music is great. I buffered it with Greta Van Fleet and a band of youngsters out of the UK called Equator, all three bands showing that rock music is in good hands and very, very far from dead. I said a few words about Leon and paid tribute to his contribution to my development, the formation of Rebel Rock Radio and the amount of effort he put into pumping SA music. He was one of a kind and he will be missed. The highlight of the show for me was playing a band called Sun Fish who were around in Cape Town in the late ' 90s early '00s and put out a cracker of a track called 'Dawn of Clay'. Other SA music came from Jasper Dan and Van Coke Kartel. I let Black Label Society sum it all up with a track called 'Sick of it All'. Artists featured: Dropkick Murphys, Devil's Train, Ressurection Kings, ACDC, Drowning Pool, The Temperance Movement, Powderfinger, Hell Yeah, Texas Hippie Coalition, Pantera, Sinner, The Dead Daisies, The Four Horsemen, Five Finger Death Punch, Motörhead, Black Label Society, Buckcherry, Blue Cheer, Jethro Tull, Iron Maiden, KK's Priest, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Stranglers, Sham 69, Kiss, Jasper Dan, Foreigner, Sun Fish, Van Coke Kartel, Whitesnake, Greta Van Fleet, Adam & the Metal Hawks, Equator, Slayer, Scorpions, The Rolling Stones, Gary Moore.

Vinny Appice is one of the biggest Metal drummers and songwriters in the world, and is in the Hall of Heavy Metal History for his contributions to Heavy Metal drumming. As a teenager he played on a John Lennon album, and drummed for Lennon during the former Beatle's final live performance. Vinny replaced Bill Ward as Black Sabbath's drummer during the Dio years, and then joined Ronnie James Dio in founding and defining the sound of the band Dio. Vinny co-wrote all your favorite Dio songs, which he still performs, along with new songs, with a mostly reunited Dio under the name Last in Line. Vinny is part of Joel Hoekstra's 13 and the supergroup Resurrection Kings, whose latest album I was ready to ask him all about, but Vinny's surprising response to my first question about the record made me change tact. Listen for yourself in the Hard, Heavy & Hair interview with Vinny Appice. We talk about: - The new Resurrection Kings LP Skygazer and what Vinny doesn't like about it - Find out who Vinny is talking about when he says, "either they're deaf or they don't know how to mix." - Drumming on the latest Joel Hoekstra's 13 album, Running Games. - Playing a perfect set with people he met only 2 hours before. - The upcoming third Last in Line album. - The Last in Line writing process. - Vinny's advice to younger musicians. - That time Jimmy Bain got into the wrong tour van. - When the smoke machine exploded behind him during a Black Sabbath concert. - Where you can catch Vinny this summer for an autograph and drum clinics.
