Die Alte Pinakothek in München mit ihrer Sammlung alter Meister zählt noch heute zu den spektakulärsten Kunstmuseen in Deutschland. Auch dem Besucher Albert Mähl, der heute eher für seine niederdeutschen Dichtungen und Theaterstücke in Erinnerung geblieben ist, hat es die dortige Ausstellung sehr angetan. Nach anfänglicher Distanz gehört seine wortreiche Bewunderung insbesondere den italienischen Exponaten, die in München von Perugino über vor allem Raffael bis Tintoretto reichen. A cinque secoli dalla morte del pittore rinascimentale, il prossimo 5 dicembre la celebre pala del Battesimo di Cristo è in città dalla Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria per la tradizionale mostra natalizia a Palazzo Marino, dove resterà esposta fino al 14 gennaio 2024. Un'occasione per ammirare gratuitamente uno dei grandi capolavori dell'artista che fu il maestro di Raffaello, ma anche per saperne di più, grazie a un allestimento che ne narrerà le origini e il contesto, e agli storici dell'arte che guideranno i visitatori lungo il percorso espositivo.Negli altri otto municipi della città, importanti opere d'arte prodotte tra l'Ottocento e il Novecento parteciperanno all'evento, mentre il Perugino è protagonista di un altro progetto nato dalla collaborazione tra la Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria e il capoluogo lombardo. Si tratta del restauro del Gonfalone della Giustizia, di proprietà del museo umbro.Dipinta nei primi anni del Cinquecento da un Perugino ormai artisticamente maturo, la grande pala del Battesimo di Cristo è un'opera fondamentale per comprendere il successo riscosso da Pietro Vannucci a cavallo tra il XV e il XVI secolo, quando il suo stile diviene un modello imprescindibile per gli artisti di tutta Italia. Il dipinto infatti racchiude in sé gli elementi che avevano segnato la fortuna e la modernità del maestro: il paesaggio sembra materializzarsi dalla luce, ogni asperità si appiana nelle linee fluide che ammorbidiscono volti, anatomie, panneggi. Creature angeliche che sfuggono a ogni turbamento abitano un universo dai colori dolcissimi. Tutto è misura e ordine.Alta 265 centimetri e larga 147, la tavola era originariamente il cuore di un monumentale polittico voluto dai frati di Sant'Agostino a Perugia per l'altare maggiore della loro chiesa. Intorno al dipinto, realizzato a tempera e a olio, si dispiegavano molti altri pannelli, con figure di santi e storie sacre chiamate a evidenziare la centralità della professione di fede nella vita del cristiano, che proprio con la purificazione del Battesimo ha il suo inizio. Grazie a un'aggiornata interpretazione dei dati tecnici, storici e documentari, a Palazzo Marino uno scenografico allestimento digitale riprodurrà integralmente l'originaria struttura del polittico, che non fu mai completato a causa dell'improvvisa morte dell'artista contagiato dalla peste. L'opera completa avrebbe dovuto comprendere circa trenta pannelli distribuiti su due facce, orientate rispettivamente verso la navata e verso il coro dell'edificio.La storia di quest'opera scandisce gli ultimi vent'anni di vita del pittore. La sua commissione risale al 1502, quando l'astro del Perugino era al suo massimo splendore. Il Battesimo di Cristo viene dipinto dall'artista durante la prima fase dell'incarico, nel primo decennio del Cinquecento. Nel 1523, tuttavia, quando Vannucci morì improvvisamente di peste, mentre affrescava una chiesa nel contado di Perugia, il progetto non era stato completato. Nel mezzo, polemiche con gli agostiniani e lunghe trattative, che l'artista gestiva alternando promesse non mantenute e temporanee irreperibilità a momenti di lavoro intenso.Questo e altro scopriremo nella mostra a Palazzo Marino, mentre negli altri otto municipi della città, le biblioteche di zona ospitano fino al 5 gennaio 2024 altrettante opere d'arte provenienti dalla Galleria d'Arte Moderna e dal Museo del Novecento di Milano. Ripercorriamo gli anni della formazione del Perugino, muovendoci all'interno del contesto storico in cui cresce: dalla Perugia degli anni ‘60 del Quattrocento fino alla bottega del Verrocchio, nella Firenze del tempo, un centro di cultura, vivace e in fermento. Sono gli anni in cui al potere va un giovane Lorenzo de' Medici minacciato dalla famosa congiura dei Pazzi, gli anni che porteranno Pietro Vannucci a guadagnarsi quell'autonomia che lo consacrerà pittore e l'ottenimento di numerosissime committenze che ne accresceranno la fama, fino alla chiamata a Roma, per un'impresa che ne segnerà vita e carriera…

Dopo avere ricevuto da Papa Sisto IV l'incarico della regia della decorazione della Cappella Sistina, le committenze pubbliche e private si susseguono in varie parti della penisola e per il Perugino inizia anche il problema di far fronte a tutti gli impegni presi. Tra il racconto delle sue grandi opere, scopriremo i lati meno esplorati della personalità di questo grande artista. Un pittore che tendeva a scomparire per sottrarsi alle richieste dei troppi committenti, un amante delle fughe nella riviera adriatica, un uomo però anche bilioso e rissoso.Nel frattempo, a Firenze, la morte di Lorenzo il Magnifico porta un clima di confusione politica e gli artisti sono tenuti a uniformarsi alla nuova moralità imposta da Savonarola. Tuttavia, il Perugino sembra uscire indenne da questo periodo oscurantista. Sono proprio gli anni in cui nella sua vita entra una donna meravigliosa…

Nella vita del Perugino entra una donna la cui bellezza si suppone che ricorra spesso nei volti femminili dipinti dal maestro: è Chiara Fancelli, la giovane e bellissima figlia di Luca Fancelli, architetto e scultore, allievo e assistente del Brunelleschi.Siamo sul finire del ‘400 e i modelli e gli schemi del Perugino vengono sempre più spesso replicati o ripresi da altri artisti di diverse aree d'Italia. Le sue due botteghe, a Firenze e a Perugia, sono stracolme di committenze; al loro interno, una fitta schiera di assistenti. Il Perugino è davvero una star della produzione artistica con eccezionali doti imprenditoriali. C'è il rischio, però, che tutto si trasformi in “maniera”, in una eccessiva tendenza alla replica delle stesse opere, senza guizzi e innovazioni…

Una nuova stagionedel Rinascimento a Bologna”, a cura di Daniele Benati, Maria Luisa Pacelli ed Elena Rossoni, allaPinacoteca Nazionale sino al 5 febbraio.Tra i capolavori della ritrattistica rinascimentale, effige di uno degli uomini più influenti del suo tempo,l'opera è particolarmente significativa per Bologna poiché il papa della Rovere fu colui che ricondussela città sotto il dominio della Chiesa, mettendo fine alla pseudo-signoria della famiglia Bentivoglio chel'aveva governata nel corso del XV secolo, e cambiandone così radicalmente il corso della storia.Ad evidenziare la portata, non solo temporanea, di questo evento, è la Direttrice della Pinacoteca,nonché co-curatrice della mostra, Maria Luisa Pacelli, nel suo intervento nel catalogo.“L'inserimento del dipinto nell'ala del museo dedicata all'arte del ‘400 e del ‘500 è stata l'occasione perriorganizzarne il percorso, con lo scopo di mettere in luce alcuni degli episodi più significativi delRinascimento bolognese, anche grazie a pochi altri mirati prestiti. Il progetto, costruito principalmenteattorno al ricco patrimonio di dipinti e opere su carta del museo, trova una sua estensione ecompletamento in altre raccolte e siti monumentali cittadini, dove verrà posto l'accento sulletestimonianze artistiche di questa fase della storia bolognese.In Pinacoteca si è scelto di iniziare l'esposizione con un focus sulla Cappella Garganelli: decorata daiferraresi Francesco del Cossa ed Ercole de Roberti tra il 1477 e il 1485, fu una delle impresepittoriche più straordinarie del Quattrocento bolognese, di cui il museo conserva il volto della Maddalena piangente dipinto da Ercole, unico prezioso frammento giunto fino a noi. L'altro estremo cronologico della mostra è il 1530, anno in cui Bologna ospitò l'incoronazione a imperatore di Carlo Vd'Asburgo da parte di papa Clemente VII, imponendosi all'attenzione dell'intera Europa.La prima parte dell'esposizione è dedicata all'arte fiorita durante il governo dei Bentivoglio, dagli anni'70 del ‘400 fino al principio del nuovo secolo, quando la città vive una fase di relativo benessere estabilità politica. La congiuntura favorevole e il mecenatismo della corte generano un ambiente propizio alla sperimentazione, cui concorrono artisti provenienti da altri centri, come i ferraresi del Cossa, de Roberti e Lorenzo Costa, mentre tra i bolognesi emergono le personalità divergenti di Francesco Francia e Amico Aspertini.In questo clima culturale, arricchito all'alba del nuovo secolo dal sopraggiungere di opere di altriforestieri, come Perugino e Filippino Lippi, vengono promosse importanti committenze che, oltre adare lustro alla città e ai suoi governanti, sono il cantiere di elaborazione di una cultura figurativaautoctona, come ben dimostra la raccolta di opere del periodo presente in Pinacoteca e questa mostra.Con la riconquista di Bologna da parte della Chiesa, lo scenario cambia in maniera sostanziale. Lacittà è un centro strategico per gli obiettivi politici di Giulio II che si preoccupa di affermare il propriodominio non solo con l'azione militare e amministrativa, ma anche attraverso un programmad'interventi coerenti con la politica di propaganda artistica promossa nella capitale. A questo fine,vengono chiamati a Bologna due protagonisti delle committenze capitoline, Bramante eMichelangelo. Il primo interviene sui principali luoghi di rappresentanza del potere e, più in generale,sull'immagine della città; al secondo viene invece commissionata una statua in bronzo del pontefice da porsi sulla facciata della basilica di san Petronio. E mentre gli artisti dell'entourage bentivolesco lasciano la città o si ritirano ai margini della scena, ad imporsi è la lingua della “grande” arte romana,principalmente sotto il segno di Raffaello.Sebbene non documentato a Bologna durante il pontificato di Giulio II, è infatti il maestro urbinate ainfluire maggiormente sulla produzione e il gusto locali da questo momento in avanti. A partire dal1508, Raffaello è assorbito dalla decorazione delle Stanze Vaticane e non si allontana dalla capitale, ma l'eco delle sue imprese inizia già da ora a permeare l'ambiente artistico bolognese. Per registrarel'arrivo di sue opere in città bisognerà invece attendere la metà del secondo decennio, sotto il pontificato di Leone X. In particolare, sarà dirompente l'impatto dell'Estasi di Santa Cecilia, un capolavoro della maturità del maestro, collocato all'epoca in San Giovanni Monte e oggi in Pinacoteca.Quest'opera complessa per quanto riguarda la concezione intellettuale e assai ricca di invenzioni sulpiano iconografico e formale, ha avuto un influsso enorme sulla cultura pittorica bolognese, nonsolo nel corso del Cinquecento, ma fino ai Carracci, Guido Reni e oltre.Sono ancora una volta i grandi fatti della Storia a influire sull'ultimo importante capitolo dell'arterinascimentale a Bologna. È infatti a seguito del devastante Sacco di Roma del 1527 che il Parmigianino decide di lasciare la capitale per stabilirsi per qualche tempo in città. Nel suo monologo al telefono Nunzio Di Stefano riporta un episodio del suo passato, appartenente al periodo in cui svolgeva il servizio militare. Il racconto, registrato in piena pandemia, lancia un messaggio ancora molto attuale che sembra far riferimento al conflitto bellico scatenatosi negli ultimi tempi. L'artista riesce a coinvolgere l'utente definendo uno contesto preciso che colloca la scena sull'altana: «un cilindro di ferro e cemento che è situato normalmente all'altezza di circa venti metri, ai bordi della caserma, immerso nel buio più totale, con solo qualche stella che rischiarava il cielo e un piccolo faro che illuminava i dintorni...».Dal 12 novembre la mostra "Nunzio incontra Perugino" presso la Galleria Nazionale del'Umbria di Perugia mette in dialogo due sculture dell'artista con l'Annunciazione Ranieri, capolavoro del Perugino. The world expects us to be Raphaels, but some of us are Leonardos. Don't hold your Leonardo mind to Raphael standards, because this Raphael world would be nothing without Leonardo minds. There's an inscription in the Pantheon in Rome that says, “Here lies that famous Raphael by whom Nature feared to be conquered while he lived.” In other words, Raphael was such an amazing painter, Nature was supposedly shaking in her boots, afraid he would learn all her tricks. (Ironically, Raphael's remains are sealed away in a sarcophagus, where Nature can't get to them. Who's afraid of who?) But Nature had nothing to fear. Raphael could not outdo her. As Raphael was being buried, the painter Nature should have feared lay hundreds of miles to the north, in a little church on the grounds of the King of France's chateau. Raphael the young phenom, Leonardo, the old has-been Several years before Raphael's early death, he was getting paid thousands of ducats to paint one fresco after another in the Vatican. Meanwhile, the aging Leonardo da Vinci was nearby, living off a meager 33 ducat-a-month stipend, not doing much of importance. The pope had tried hiring him to paint something, but ended up frustrated, saying, “This man will never get anything done!” When the prolific art patron, Elizabeth d'Este, who had hounded Leonardo for a portrait for decades, came to visit Rome, she didn't bother getting in touch with Leonardo. He was a has-been, who couldn't be counted on to follow through. Who was she there to see? The young phenom, Raphael. Raphael was very similar to Leonardo, but also very different. His most important difference was that he was a master executor. If you hired Raphael, he got the job done. He also had been raised in the workshop of his father, a court painter for a Duke, so Raphael was refined and well-mannered. He knew how to schmooze with nobility. He had the connections that came along with that background, and could get a letter of recommendation from one powerful person to another with ease. Leonardo, on the other hand, was born out of wedlock – which made him “illegitimate” at the time – and didn't get much education. While he had gained a reputation as a brilliant engineer and architect, he had also gained a reputation as an unreliable painter. Raphael: A reliable Leonardo As Raphael continued his career as the pope's wunderkind, Leonardo worked his way north. He left yet another project unfinished in Milan, then impressed King Francis I enough to be invited to join him at the Chateau d'Amboise, as the official painter, architect, and court pageantry designer. While a gig with the King of France wasn't the worst thing in the world, it was a step down from what Leonardo could have been doing if he hadn't been reputed as someone who couldn't get things done. The pope and all the nobles in all the principalities of Italy just watched him go. He'd never return again. While Raphael had some clear advantages that helped his career advance, he couldn't have done it without the ways he and Leonardo were similar. The frescoes being painted by the young Raphael – such as his most-famous School of Athens – were exactly the kinds of projects Leonardo would have been great for, if only he could have been counted on to finish them. In fact, there was no person in the world to whom Raphael owed his own painting style more than Leonardo. When it came to painting, Raphael was mostly a reliable Leonardo. Raphael's “Leonardo period” Art historians call the years during which Raphael spent a lot of time in Florence his “Florence period.” But they might as well call them his “Leonardo period.” That's the four years during which Raphael's work started looking less like that of his mentor, Perugino, and more like that of his idol, Leonardo. During Raphael's Florence period, Leonardo was in a public face-off with another young phenom, Michelangelo. Leonardo had been commissioned to paint a battle scene in the Florence Council Hall. As usual, the first deadline came and went. Meanwhile, Michelangelo had done such a great job with his David statue, the council decided it would be a great idea to have him paint a battle scene, too. It was a pretty awkward situation for Leonardo. He was already struggling to finish, and a committee of which he had been a part had gone against his recommendation for a less-conspicuous location and put the David right outside the entrance of the council hall. Michelangelo was an arrogant prick who openly taunted Leonardo for his past failures, and now Leonardo had to walk through the shadow of Michelangelo's latest triumph to get to his mural. Oh, and Michelangelo's battle scene mural was directly across the room from his. By all accounts at the time, this was a painting competition – a battle of battle scenes. Leonardo wasn't competitive by nature, but this was supposedly going to motivate him to finish his mural. Today, we might say putting Leonardo in this position was pretty machiavellian. Which is ironic, because it was arranged with the help of none other than the inventor of machiavellianism, the council's secretary, Niccolò Machiavelli. Once word of this painting battle traveled outside Florence, young artists traveled to Florence to witness it. One of those artists: Raphael – armed with a letter of recommendation from the mother of the future Duke of Urbino to the leader of the Florentine Republic, stating that the twenty-one year-old was “greatly gifted…sensible and well-mannered.” It's during this “Florence period” that Raphael's work changed dramatically. It started to look as if he might know a thing or two about anatomy, he started aping Leonardo's smokey sfumato technique, and drawing contorted, muscular men in the heat of battle. He learned a bit watching Michelangelo, but he learned a lot watching Leonardo. As it turned out, neither Leonardo nor Michelangelo finished his mural. For Michelangelo, it wasn't a big deal. He got summoned to Rome, where he eventually painted the Sistine Chapel ceiling. Leonardo, however, had more of his career behind him than ahead of him. Yet another public failure meant he never got another public commission. So while Leonardo, in his sixties, was wandering around Europe, chasing what work he could, Raphael, in his early thirties, was getting showered with high-paying papal commissions, as a more-reliable Leonardo. The rise and fall of Raphael These days, we admire Leonardo more than we do Raphael, but that wasn't always the case. That Raphael is one of the few people entombed in the palace of the gods, alongside kings, is testament to his popularity when he died. Heck, at his funeral, the pope kissed his hand. Around 1800, the church in which Leonardo was buried was destroyed in the French Revolution. Nobody bothered to try to recover Leonardo's remains. They were mixed in with everyone else's and forgotten. Meanwhile, Raphael was as popular as ever. If you take a peek at Google Ngram, you see a sharp increase in mentions of Raphael around that time. For hundreds of years after Raphael's death, he was considered the quintessential painter of the High Renaissance. The art academies around Europe, who controlled the opinion of what was or wasn't good art, built their curricula around studying the work of Raphael. But as the influence of art academies crumbled in the late 1800s with the rise of Impressionism, so too did crumble the reverence for Raphael. Meanwhile, Leonardo has risen in popularity over the centuries. Today, if you want to find a good book on Leonardo, you have lots of choices. Raphael, not so much. The probable cause of this rise in popularity and the probable cause of Leonardo's struggles with follow-through are one in the same: Nature had more reason to fear Leonardo than Raphael. Leonardo's massive iceberg Through the centuries after Leonardo's death, his notes began to resurface. They had been inherited by someone who was supposed to compile and publish them, but were so numerous and disorganized, that was a nearly impossible task. His notes ended up collated and bound into individual notebooks, scattered amongst collectors around Europe. One notebook was found as recently as the 1960s, hiding in plain sight in Madrid, in the collection of the library. These notebooks have revealed that for Leonardo, painting a picture was about much more than painting a picture. When Raphael did an anatomy study, it was all about knowing how the skin on the surface of the body was shaped by the muscles underneath. The only purpose was to mimic Nature, on a superficial level. For Leonardo, an anatomy study was about much more. He didn't just want to know what muscles were under the skin. He wanted to also know which muscles were engaged by which movements, or which nerves activated by which emotions. As a painter, there was no reason for Leonardo to know what the human heart looked like, or how it worked. Yet Leonardo made observations about the heart that would have advanced science by centuries, had they been published. Leonardo searched, Raphael found As I talked about on episodes 105 and 288, economist David Galenson would say Raphael was a conceptual innovator, while Leonardo was an experimental one. To Leonardo, there was no such thing as irrelevant information. In the course of researching how to paint something, he might make a new discovery about anatomy, metallurgy, geology, or some other field, that would set him down a different path. The art historian Eugene Garin thought, based upon Leonardo's many thousands of pages of notes, that he was trying to compile a treatise of all human knowledge. Leonardo wasn't studying Nature just so he could paint it convincingly – he was trying to understand all of Nature. Raphael didn't have to explore all aspects of the world. He merely had to copy the result of Leonardo's thinking. Galenson told me, “It's what conceptual innovators do, it turns out.” Conceptual innovators take an idea, and make it their own. It's what Picasso did with the work of Cézanne, what Warhol did with the work of Pollack, what Hemingway did with the work of Stein and Twain. The projects Leonardo pursued were impossible to finish Leonardo's experimental approach meant his paintings were never finished. He was always discovering something new, so he was constantly revising. For example, after one of his anatomy studies, he realized he had painted some neck muscles wrong, so he went back and repainted them thirty years after the fact. He did the bulk of his work on the Mona Lisa during four years, but moved it around for fifteen, making finishing touches until a paralyzed hand rendered him unable. The patron never got their painting, Leonardo never collected payment, and the Mona Lisa was still collecting dust in his studio when he died. This experimental, iterative approach extended to Leonardo's materials and methods, and made it even more difficult for him to follow through. The best-practice method of painting murals in fresco required laying down plaster and painting on it before it dried and literally set itself in stone. It wasn't great for Leonardo's blurry-edged painting style, and it made iteration impossible. He couldn't lay down dozens of layers of paint over the course of years, as he did with the Mona Lisa. By the time Leonardo was painting his battle scene in the Florence Council Hall, his famous Last Supper was already fading and flaking, thanks to his resistance to painting in the reliable fresco technique. Not satisfied with adapting his style to this technique, Leonardo instead experimented once again on his battle-scene mural. He was almost finished, before the fire he was using to set colors got too close, destroying his work. This Raphael world is nothing without Leonardos Historically, the world rewards Raphaels. It rewards the ability to formulate a plan, follow through, collect payment and prestige, and move on. So, the world trains us to be Raphaels. Why do we follow a curriculum and fill out bubbles on standardized tests with #2 pencils? Because our teacher already knows the answer. They know the answer so well, they've programmed a computer to grade the test, and it'll get confused if you use a #3 pencil. But for the curriculum to be designed to make Raphaels, we first need Leonardos. We need people who explore and experiment. We need them to ask questions that might not have answers, and to come up with new questions nobody ever thought of. That's not a straightforward process. It's messy and disorganized, and it would cause any Raphael to pull their hair out. When you don't always find answers, and the answers you do find lead to new questions, you don't always finish. The days of the Raphaels of the world are numbered. If somebody already knows the process, already knows the answer, we don't need Raphael. A computer or machine can follow a process. Raphael knew this. Once his fame was established, he milked it for all it was worth. His later frescoes were painted by his staff of assistants in the largest workshop of the High Renaissance. He licensed his drawings to a printmaker, who sold copies of his work. As it becomes harder to make it as a Raphael, it's becoming easier to make it as a Leonardo. I think Leonardo would have been a great blogger. He wouldn't have to collect and document all knowledge, then rely on an heir to collate, typeset, and publish his life's work on expensive parchment. He could instead write and publish one note at a time, gradually building his treatise of human knowledge. He wouldn't have to wander around Europe looking for patrons – he could get them without leaving his home. If you're a Leonardo, don't bother being a Raphael If you're a Leonardo mind, don't fall into the trap of evaluating yourself by the standards of the Raphael world. There's a reason why the Raphaels are so good at getting it done: Their task is simpler. Don't beat yourself up by your inability to plan and carry out a vision no one could reasonably execute on their first attempt. Instead, find a way to explore in public, one little project at a time, building up into your grand masterpiece. Leonardo's remains were forgotten for sixty years. Some scientist, perhaps motivated by the gradual resurfacing of the notes revealing Leonardo's genius, gathered together some bones he figured were those of the master. They're in a tomb in a chapel on the grounds of the chateau, and it's one of the top attractions in Amboise. Are they actually Leonardo's bones? Probably not. His remains are probably where they should be – not sealed away in some sarcophagus, but one with Nature. Thank you for having me on your podcasts! Raffaello ha dipinto soltanto. E ogni volta ha inventato un capolavoro. I pittori, come il suo maestro Perugino, tendono a ripetersi, a riprodurre un modello, hanno un archetipo di riferimento. Lui no. Ogni volta inventa un'immagine nuova. Opere che la critica disconosce sono di Raffaello: sono opere diverse da quelle che ci aspettiamo, perché Raffaello non è solo Raffaello, è anche Giorgione, è Caravaggio, è Michelangelo, è Parmigianino. Lui è tutto: nessuno è ‘più tutto' di lui. Il maestro di Raffaello"Urbino, Palazzo DucaleDal 20 luglio al 17 ottobre 2021Dopo la mostra Raffaello e Baldassare Castiglione, il Palazzo Ducale di Urbino dedica una nuova rassegna di alto profilo a un maestro del Rinascimento italiano, Pietro Vannucci detto il Perugino (Città della Pieve, 1448 circa – Fontignano, 1523), con la mostra Perugino, il maestro di Raffaello. L'esposizione celebra la sua arte raffinata, che seppe fondere con straordinaria armonia le miglioriprerogative della pittura centro-italiana della seconda metà del XV secolo ed esercitò una grande influenza sul giovane Raffaello.«Continua il centenario raffaellesco (1520) mentre ci si avvia al centenario di Perugino (1523). A Urbino, in Palazzo Ducale, nel nome del padre Giovanni Santi, si celebra il maestro di Raffaello, che fu appunto il Perugino. Ma si illumina soprattutto, attraverso alcuni capolavori, quel momento, fra 1470 e 1500, in cui, dopo l'arrivo della Pala di Piero della Francesca per la Chiesa di San Bernardino, mausoleo dei duchi, gli artisti tra Umbria, Marche e Toscana cercano una strada nuova, una lingua di emozioni e sentimenti che nessuno saprà interpretare meglio di Raffaello. Ma a ispirarlo e a indirizzarlo fu proprio Perugino», evidenzia Vittorio Sgarbi, curatore della mostra.«La mostra Perugino, il maestro di Raffaello è in logica continuità con le celebrazioni del quinto centenario dalla morte di Raffaello – dichiara l'Assessore regionale alla Cultura Giorgia Latini - ne rappresenta il compimento, oltre che un ulteriore momento di riflessione. Grazie al percorso narrativo curato da Vittorio Sgarbi entriamo non solo nell'opera di Pietro di Cristoforo Vannucci ma anche in quella del giovane urbinate e degli artisti del contesto storico precedente e successivo al Perugino. Con questa mostra, sostenuta dalla Regione, si fa inoltre luce su un altro aspetto molto interessante. Quello della formazione del genio di Raffaello, capace di una grazia e di uno stile che sono sì dotazione di natura, ma anche apprendimento. Credo, anche in relazione al mio attuale impegno di assessore regionale alla cultura e all'istruzione, che questo sia un contenuto rilevante che va pienamente recuperato anche oggi. E' nella bottega che vengono scoperti e crescono i grandi geni. In termini più attuali scuola e formazione sono le linee guida per una società che vuole prendersi cura dei suoi talenti per prendersi cura di se stessa».Frutto della collaborazione tra la Regione Marche e il Comune di Urbino, curata da Vittorio Sgarbi e organizzata da Civita Mostre e Musei e Maggioli Cultura, la mostra completa idealmente le celebrazioni per il quinto centenario della morte di Raffaello e anticipa il quinto centenario della morte di Perugino che si celebrerà nel 2023.La mostra affronta, attraverso una ventina di opere, uno dei momenti più alti nella storia dell'arte rinascimentale. In this new episode of the Museum of Femininity we will explore the life of another female art collector, who was also an eminent political leader in Renaissance Italy.Isabella d'Este (1474-1539) was the Marchioness of Mantua, who collected a variety of Ancient sculptures, medals and artefacts which she displayed in her Studiolo. La iniciativa se enmarca en el Plan Nacional de Acción contra las Violencias 2020-2022 que elaboró el Ministerio de las Mujeres, Géneros y Diversidad de la Nación a través de un proceso participativo que abarcó a todas las regiones del país. Este instrumento se inscribe en el nuevo paradigma de abordaje integral de las violencias que contempla impulsar políticas públicas para crear condiciones materiales para que las personas y grupos más afectados por las violencias de género puedan desarrollar un proyecto de vida autónomo. El programa será implementado por el Ministerio de las Mujeres, Géneros y Diversidad de manera conjunta con ANSES, a través de convenios que se firmarán con las provincias y los municipios.

Documentos RNE rememora a una de las cumbres del arte universal, Rafael Sanzio de Urbino, al cumplirse el quinto centenario de su muerte. Rafael surge en un periodo único en la historia de la cultura y el arte occidental; el Renacimiento italiano, cuya influencia se extendió por todo el mundo y perdura hasta hoy. Este periodo alumbró un conjunto de extraordinarias figuras entre las que sobresalieron los genios inigualables de Leonardo da Vinci, Miguel Ángel Buonarroti y Rafael Sanzio de Urbino. El programa recrea la personalidad de Rafael desde su nacimiento en Urbino hasta su temprana muerte en Roma, un día de Viernes Santo de 1520. Se da la circunstancia de que Rafael nacerá y morirá el mismo día, un 6 de abril, justo el mismo día que cumplía 37 años de edad. Sin embargo, pese a su corta existencia, su obra fue considerable y representa, en palabras del historiador del arte Federico Zeri, una de los supremos resultados del Renacimiento. El documental de Miguel Molleda, recorre los principales periodos del pintor y arquitecto en Urbino, Perugia, Florencia y Roma. Resalta la influencia inicial de su padre, Giovanni Santi, que fue su primer maestro. Pronto Rafael se situó en el taller de Perugino, en Perugia, y también en el de Pinturicchio, que dejarán marcas en sus primeras obras. Pero se desprenderá enseguida de los motivos decorativos de sus maestros para profundizar en la propia elaboración de las figuras de sus composiciones. Rafael estudió también atentamente la obra de Piero della Francesca, del que tomó su sentido racional del espacio. Florencia verá la confluencia de los tres gigantes del Cinquecento, Rafael, Leonardo y Miguel Ángel, conjunción que se dará después en Roma, donde Rafael es llamado por el papa Julio II por mediación de Bramante, para decorar las estancias del Palacio Apostólico, residencia del Pontífice. Intervienen en el documental destacados especialistas en Rafael como Ana González Mozo, doctora en Bellas Artes y Especialista en la Pintura Italiana del Servicio de Documentación Técnica y Laboratorio del Museo del Prado, que muestra el arte pictórico de Rafael a partir de sus propios estudios. Karina Marotta, licenciada en Historia del Arte y Coordinadora de Conservación del Museo del Prado, y José de la Fuente Martínez, uno de los principales restauradores internacionales de soportes y Especialista en Paneles de Pintura del Museo del Prado, nos exponen las obras de Rafael en la pinacoteca madrileña. Asimismo, el documental recuerda la participación de destacados especialistas del arte en las conferencias magistrales impartidas en Roma, poco antes de celebrarse la gran exposición, 1520-1483-Rafaello de las Escuderías del Quirinale. "Le cose della maniera sua furono tenute in pregio grandissimo": una frase di Giorgio Vasari che aiuta a comprendere come fosse considerata, al suo tempo, l'arte di Pietro Vannucci, detto il Perugino, originario di Città della Pieve (vicino Perugia) e massimo esponente del Rinascimento umbro. Formatosi tra Perugia e Firenze (fu alla bottega del Verrocchio), conobbe una vita di successi: partecipò ai lavori della Cappella Sistina a Roma, lavorò a lungo a Firenze per diversi committenti, insieme al Pinturicchio monopolizzò la scena artistica della Perugia del tempo grazie al suo stile delicato, lirico, aggraziato ed armonioso che sapeva essere adatto a ogni tipo di commissione. Solenne nei dipinti ufficiali, devoto nelle opere religiose (lui che, secondo Vasari, fu "persona di assai poca religione"), colto e abile nel ritratto, il Perugino è uno dei più grandi artisti del nostro Rinascimento, e Ilaria e Federico in questa puntata ci conducono alla scoperta di alcuni dei suoi maggiori capolavori.

Fu soprattutto un grande pittore di affreschi, dotato di una fantasia fuori dal comune e di uno spiccato gusto decorativo che si evince da ogni suo capolavoro. Formatosi sul solco dell'arte del Perugino, studiò artisti come Piero della Francesca e il Verrocchio e fu molto affascinato dall'arte antica. Ha lasciato splendidi affreschi a Roma (Appartamento Borgia, Santa Maria in Aracoeli, Santa Maria del Popolo), a Siena (la Libreria Piccolomini) e ovviamente in Umbria (la cappella Baglioni di Spello), ma questi non sono che alcuni dei suoi lavori più importanti. Della sua vita sappiamo poco (e abbiamo un vuoto completo fino alle prime notizie che lo riguardano, quando già era un pittore maturo), ma l'importanza di Antonio Aquili, meglio noto come Antoniazzo Romano, è indiscussa: si tratta infatti del maggior pittore romano del Rinascimento. A Roma infatti, benché ci fosse notevole vitalità artistica nel Quattrocento, non si era formata una scuola locale perché i papi preferivano chiamare grandi artisti da altre parti d'Italia. Antoniazzo Romano seppe quindi guardare alle esperienze di alcuni di questi importanti pittori (Melozzo da Forlì, Benozzo Gozzoli, il Perugino e altri) per formare uno stile originale, destinato anche a fare scuola nella Roma del Rinascimento. Della sua vita sappiamo poco (e abbiamo un vuoto completo fino alle prime notizie che lo riguardano, quando già era un pittore maturo), ma l'importanza di Antonio Aquili, meglio noto come Antoniazzo Romano, è indiscussa: si tratta infatti del maggior pittore romano del Rinascimento. A Roma infatti, benché ci fosse notevole vitalità artistica nel Quattrocento, non si era formata una scuola locale perché i papi preferivano chiamare grandi artisti da altre parti d'Italia. Antoniazzo Romano seppe quindi guardare alle esperienze di alcuni di questi importanti pittori (Melozzo da Forlì, Benozzo Gozzoli, il Perugino e altri) per formare uno stile originale, destinato anche a fare scuola nella Roma del Rinascimento. Gian Giacomo de Alladio, meglio noto come Macrino d'Alba, è stato uno dei pittori piemontesi più importanti del Rinascimento, anche se sulla sua vita abbiamo poche notizie. Dopo essersi formato nella sua città natale si recò a Roma per studiare la cultura più aggiornata del tempo e per lavorare a contatto con grandissimi artisti come il Pinturicchio, Sandro Botticelli, il Perugino e tanti altri.
