Every year during my birthday week, I like to share some reflections from the past year. Rather than doing a “38 things for 38” (who has time for that?), inspired by other podcasts and articles I've seen on this theme, I decided to share on 12 lessons I've learned or leaned into in the past 12 months. As you'll hear in the podcast, the 12 lessons I'm carrying with me are about things I found myself learning, relearning, or focusing on intently over the past year. From the importance of asking for what I need, to learning that I don't have to do it all myself, and ensuring that I slow down without putting my life on hold while I wait for something to happen, I've learned so much…and I am so thankful for these life lessons! This year, vulnerability and openness took center stage. As part of this process, I wrote this article where I describe my experience healing from PTSD related to sexual assault. If you too are struggling to find peace after a traumatic event, I hope my story reminds you that peace is possible. For those interested in learning more about trauma recovery, I created an all-new group coaching program for you. Mentioned in this episode: I'd be remiss if I didn't mention my two books – The Little Book of Game Changers: 50 Healthy Habits for Managing Stress & Anxiety and The Farewell Tour: A Caregiver's Guide to Stress Management, Sane Nutrition, and Better Sleep – both of which serve as guides in developing and maintaining healthy living habits. In this episode I also mention my podcast episode with Emily Morse, renowned sex therapist and host of the award-winning relationship podcast, “Sex with Emily.” During our chat, Emily and I dive into the mind-body connection between the brain and how our body responds to sex, and the key role our brain plays in our sex lives. I always wanted to write something that combined my two favorite loves; music and wellness. I was able to accomplish that with this book! His playlists were his love language and something that was very special to my family. Every chapter has a song that my father and I listened to on his “farewell tour.” I hope you enjoy this unique approach to caregiving and put this book in your “wellness toolbox” as a useful resource to help you on your own journey through caring for your loved one. Caregivers. Literally the word reflects how they “give”-but what about what they need to take? If you've ever been in a caregiving role, you know the self-care struggle is real. After months of waiting to share this with you, I am thrilled to announce my upcoming book, The Farewell Tour: A Caregiver's Guide to Stress Management, Sane Nutrition, and Better Sleep (Viva Editions, October 2022). Inspired by my family's experience caring for my father after his diagnosis of advanced pancreatic cancer (an experience which he, a music industry veteran, called his “farewell tour”), I have created a book intended to providing a healthier life for caregivers—Those who serve and assist ailing loved ones, the elderly, special needs children, and others who require ongoing care. In this episode I hint at some of the self-care tips and tricks you'll find in the book as well as info about the other wellness experts, music artists, and industry professionals who shared their insight for this book. I also share a few personal perspectives and stories on the creation and evolution of this text and what I have learned in my own caregiver journey. Click here to preorder.
When I set out to write The Farewell Tour, I knew I wanted to include a chapter on dating for caregivers because I know I could have used that guidance when I was going through it. In today's podcast episode, I'm chatting with Lily Womble, a dating coach with an awesome mission to help women find the love of their lives. You may remember her from a previous episode we had on a similar subject. Today, we: -dive into how to obtain clarity of what type of partner you want and ways to make sure the relationship begins on the healthiest note possible and what to do to make sure it thrives. -talk about how to get through any barriers within both yourself and your prospective partner for the best future possible -discuss the importance of things like self-care and compassion as you start your love-of-your-life finding journey -connect healthy living with healthy love and get you on the path to an everlasting relationship.
