Spider-Man Team-Up #7 (1997)Look, I know it's supposed to be more Thunderbolts but the “Justice Like Lightning” trade tricks you into reading a Spider-Man book. Thankfully, it is chronologically congruent to the ongoing storyline that we are covering so let's keep going.Spider-Man is framed for murder and the Thunderbolts are the only ones to can help (because everyone else is dead). Songbird and Mach-1 brawl with the web-slinger while Atlas signs a rooftop autograph using his fingernails. It is ultimately revealed the Enclave (aka Wilford Brimley and the Egon Spanglers) are sending androids out to muck up the works and that really steams Mach-1's ponytail. Also, Spider-Man hits a brick wall, Stan Lee makes Batman obese, Techno goes full Dolby and Mary Jane's course books are just too damn EXPENSIVE!All this plus Jen and Shawn share their experience at the latest RetroMania and talk about the new, bizarre Superman movie toys.*** PROPER COMIC BOOK DISCUSSION STARTS AT 00:12:30 ***Promos: 8TW AUDIO WORKS (https://twotruefreaks.com/podcast/8tw-promo-pilot-season/)Continue the conversation with Shawn and Jen on Twitter / Instagram / Facebook / Threads / Bluesky or email the show at worstcollectionever@gmail.comAlso, get hip to all of our episodes on YouTube in its own playlist! https://bit.ly/WorstCollectionEverYTDownload the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and wherever you get your favorite shows. Thunderbolts #2 (1997)Our OG Thunderbolts discussion continues as the Thunderbolts adjust to their newly heroic personas in a battle against the Mad Thinker and his plan to suck knowledge out of Franklin Richards's brain. Thankfully, the T-Bolts are here to handle the situation even though they pretty much get their asses handed to them by Thinker's Gumby-looking android. Also, Mach-1 gets amorous, Citizen V tells a joke and the mayor of NYC strong-arms a grieving child into allowing the T-Bolts to inhabit the home of his deceased family. All this plus Shawn talks about the DEATH OF SUPERMAN and Jen expresses her frustration with BATMAN: H2SH!*** PROPER COMIC BOOK DISCUSSION STARTS AT 00:15:03 ***Promo: MARVEL STAR WARS: FROM EMPIRE TO JEDI (https://fireandwaterpodcast.com/show/empiretojedi/)Continue the conversation with Shawn and Jen on Twitter / Instagram / Facebook / Threads / Bluesky or email the show at worstcollectionever@gmail.comAlso, get hip to all of our episodes on YouTube in its own playlist! https://bit.ly/WorstCollectionEverYTDownload the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and wherever you get your favorite shows. Thunderbolts #1 (1997)It's time to talk about the origins of the MCU's latest offering as we look at the very first issue of the THUNDERBOLTS!Of course, there is the big undercover villain twist at the end here but who can blame them when Onslaught eliminated all of our heroes and all that's left is Spider-Man, Daredevil and (maybe) Blade. We got Baron Zemo masquerading as a capoeira-slinging Homelander, Techno smuggling in his contraband robot bartenders and so many free-floating goatees you'll think you're trapped in a cable-ready erotic thriller. Also, Meteorite gets judgy, NYC ladies get thirsty of Atlas and Black Widow shows up dressed like she's late for work at a print publishing firm. All this plus Jen and Shawn cover some recent purchases from Free Comic Book Day.*** PROPER COMIC BOOK DISCUSSION STARTS AT 00:11:51 ***Promos: CELLULOID HEROES (https://open.spotify.com/show/5G4VxlMzO0yy7Rub7MPUzx?si=851e84cb62b24949)Continue the conversation with Shawn and Jen on Twitter / Instagram / Facebook / Threads / Bluesky or email the show at worstcollectionever@gmail.comAlso, get hip to all of our episodes on YouTube in its own playlist! https://bit.ly/WorstCollectionEverYTDownload the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and wherever you get your favorite shows. There's a bit of a hiccup in our schedule so it's time for another round of [R]OHOTMU but at least it fits in with the current Captain America story we are working with. This week, we find out what the deal is with professional wrestler/super-villain LETHA. As it turns out, Letha broke into the business via a sort of Fabulous Moolah operation and ends up in Rikers because of some mark fan at Roxxon using her to rough up Project Pegasus. After that, she has to contend with Dazzler while in the slammer like some sort of 1970s prison exploitation movie. And then on top of all THAT, she ends up getting murdered in Ohio. At least she got to give Quasar an atomic noogie.Be here next week as we continue with Captain America and the Scourge of the Underworld!Promo: CAPES ON THE COUCH (https://capesonthecouch.live/)Continue the conversation with Shawn and Jen on Twitter (X) @angryheroshawn and @JenStansfield and email the show at worstcollectionever@gmail.comAlso, get hip to all of our episodes on YouTube in its own playlist! https://bit.ly/WorstCollectionEverYTDownload the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and wherever you get your favorite shows.
Mike and Derek get together to discuss Marvel Two-In-One #53-#58 a.k.a The Project Pegasus! Not only is it the story's 45th Anniversary, but it's the first appearance of Screaming Mimi!
Meet Matt Mini, THE Funky of Funky's Hot Sauce; he's a master of creating artisanal hot sauces with a zing of garlic or a fruit-forward sweetness that still packs a lot of heat. In this episode, we hear about his years of developing recipes, how he moved from kitchen to kitchen (and how narrow the temperature range has to be for fermented foods), about the Carolina Reaper sauce that won the 2022 Screaming Mimi award and catapulted his hot sauces into national recognition, and how Stellar Fuzz made it onto Season 23 of Hot Ones. When we first saw how DTF named their brand and sauces, we had an idea we'd get along well with them. Now that we've had Sean Kirkpatrick and Ryan Minor on we can officially say that is the case. We tried their Cherry Poppins sauce featuring a combination of Habaneros with Luxardo maraschino cherries, dark sweet cherries, gala apples, and nectarines to blend together for an amazing sauce. Their signature Kombucha use adds more depth of flavor that had us reeling about all the foods this will go well with. On top of that we covered all the important topics: History of cherries, combo fast food chains, viral youtube videos, and of course, Taylor Swift. You can find their sauces below in the links along with their social media. Included in that collection are two newly awarded Screaming Mimi's sauces That's What Shishito Sauce (1st in Asian Category) & Ghosted (3rd in Screaming Newbie). Most every night I did 500 push-ups and 300 sit ups. Every evening I was preparing, always looking for waves. He gave me direction, two hours on Wednesday between prayer school and church. Oh, I can tell you stories, but I would clock in at 2:30 to 4:30 go home and get ready for church. then, two weeks after moving from Bible to the south of France. The pastors mother asked me. What did you help out with at Bible college? I said this and that, she said, “no, no where did you tell people about ourJesus?” I said I went out every Wednesday 2:30 to 4:30 and sometimes even brought people to church. She said, “Oh that's fantastic, because I go out 2:30 to 4:30 on the Promenade des Anglais and talk to people and hand out tracts and invite them to church... Clock out from America, clock right in to the south of France! Youth camp in Greece, I taught on this same principle. And I challenged all the youth once the camp is over to at least call one of their friends and invite them to the next service. I said if you can't just call somebody, you must come early and go to the streets and tell people about our Jesus. Many did just that and they brought one man to the church. An Iraqi man in his 30's. i've been reading a Book ‘Kiss, Bow, or Shake hands' that said in the Middle East somebody comes to your home, you give them a gift. I just seemed impressed to give him my watch in front of everyone. then I did an altar call after the service, and he gave his heart to the Lord. Oh, you might say, it was because you gave him a watch. But then the Lord says, get him filled with the Spirit he'll need it. He does. eight months later I'm back in Athens. I ask, “Whatever happened to that Iraqi refugee”, and the youth tell me he got so fired up he brought 14 more people back, Iraqi refugees; who got saved and filled with the Holy Spirit and then they all received asylum in Sweden. every one of us has a story, testimony, even if your testimony is that God kept you to never get involved with any of the junk... From Dutch Sheets “Give Him 15” After teaching on the power of history recently, I was asked by a Messianic Jewish rabbi if I knew the meaning of the Hebrew word for “testimony”. I did not. “The word doesn't mean simply to convey something from the past,” he informed me. “Its true meaning is ‘to repeat an action or do it again.' We Hebrews believe,” he continued, “that when you share about what God did in the past, it releases the same power into the present... In other words, power is released to ‘do it again.'” ‘Gift of an Evangelist' A "publisher of glad tidings;" a missionary preacher of the gospel (Ephesians 4:11). This title is applied to Philip (Acts 21:8), who appears to have gone from city to city preaching the word (8:4, 40). Judging from the case of Philip, evangelists had neither the authority of an apostle, nor the gift of prophecy, nor the responsibility of pastoral supervision over a portion of the flock. They were itinerant preachers, having it as their special function to carry the gospel to places where it was previously unknown. The writers of the four Gospels are known as the Evangelists. This is a form of the word ordinarily translated "gospel" (euaggelion), except that here it designates one who announces that gospel to others (euaggelistes, "a bringer of good tidings"), literally, God Himself is an evangelist, for He "preached the gospel beforehand unto Abraham" (Galatians 3:8); Jesus Christ was an evangelist, for He also "preached the gospel" (Luke 20:1); Paul was an evangelist as well as an apostle (Romans 1:15); Philip the deacon was an evangelist (Acts 21:8); and Timothy, the pastor (2 Timothy 4:5); and indeed all the early disciples who, on being driven out of Jerusalem, "went everywhere preaching the word" (Acts 8:4 the King James Version). But Ephesians 4:11 teaches that one particular order of the ministry, distinguished from every other, is singled out by the Head of the church for this work in a distinctive sense. All may possess the gift of an evangelist in a measure, and be obligated to exercise its privilege and duty, but some are specially endued with it. "He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers." It will be seen that as an order in the ministry, the evangelist precedes that of the pastor and teacher, a fact which harmonizes with the character of the work each is still recognized as doing. The evangelist has no fixed place of residence, but moves about in different localities, preaching the gospel to those ignorant of it before. As these are converted and united to Jesus Christ by faith, the work of the pastor and teacher begins, to instruct them further in the things of Christ and build them up in the faith. At a later time, the name of "evangelist" was given the writers of the four Gospels because they tell the story of the gospel and because the effect of their promulgation at the beginning was very much like the work of the preaching evangelist. In character, the Gospels bear something of the same relation to the Epistles as evangelists bear to pastors and teachers.

Show Notes for Genuine Driven Women Episode #7 Welcome to the “Genuine Driven Women” podcast, the show where we guide women to reveal their strengths so they believe and can achieve their desired greatness! This is Episode #7 and I am Tami along with my co-host, Adalida. On today’s show we are going to talk about Spirit Crushers you may encounter in your life. I have personally witnessed a couple of instances in the last month where people in positions of authority are taking actions that are unnecessarily crushing people’s spirits. The feeling when someone crushes your spirit is memorable and can be hard to push from your mind. We all want to be valued, listened to, and respected among our friends, at school, and within our workplaces. Parents, teachers, co-workers, and supervisors at work (to name a few) are all capable of cutting us to the quick when they say something careless. It is when you really bare your soul and share an idea for improvement, a dream, or sometimes simple optimism and they directly and intentionally respond in a negative way, that it can truly crush your spirit. When you are struggling to find your place in this world, or when you know your purpose and are pushing hard to reach your full potential, spirit crushing moments have a way of setting you back or completely stopping progress toward your dream or goal. We cannot control other people, but we CAN do two things: 1) We can make a decision to never crush anyone else’s spirit and 2) We can make a decision about how we will react to these moments. Soul crushing people might be intentional, or they may just be careless in how they are interacting with you. You might be able to put the moment into perspective if you know that they are not usually like this, or if you can decide that they are simply distracted or busy. Just because something hurts, does not mean it was intentional. Sometimes people intentionally crush your dreams because they love you and believe they have your best interests at heart. This still does not make it right, but it might help you deal with it a little better. Instances like this might be a parent that wants you to get an engineering or a pre-med degree rather than something else you believe is more perfect for you, simply because they think it will be easier for you to get a job in the future. This is an example of them pushing their dream for you, and if your dream is different than theirs, this could lead to years of misery. You may get into your third year of college and realize this is not at all the career path you want to be on, or you may successfully graduate and start working in that career, and wake up five years into your career and realize you really hate your life. Let’s talk about intentional Spirit crushing people. Well, let’s call them what they really are – bullies! According to overcomebullying.org, workplace bullies can be separated into the following types: 1. The Screaming MiMi - We've all seen (or "heard") the Screaming Mimi. They are loud, obnoxious and in your face. With their little faces turning beet red and their neck veins popping they will go on tirades, spew venom, humiliate you. They are right and you are wrong and you are going to hear about it. 2. The two-headed snake - This type of workplace bully is one of the most dangerous, because you may not realize you are dealing with a bully until after they have already destroyed your reputation. To your face they may act like a friend; But they will slander your character and steal credit for your work while telling you they are your biggest fan. 3. The constant critic - This bully’s goal is to dismantle other people’s confidence through constant – and often unwarranted – criticism. A critic will look for any possible flaw in someone’s work and labors tirelessly to kill that person’s credibility. ** If you go to overcomebullying.org, you will find several other types of workplace bullies, but we just wanted to cover a few today. If you are a leader, at any level, you should be careful about some behaviors you do, without thinking that tend to beat your team down. Here are somethings that leaders inadvertently do to crush people’s souls: 1. They are a control freak or a micromanager. You may think you are simply “detail oriented” or that your experience makes this practice ok, but what it really does is makes the team believe you do not trust them. In many cases, they will start to think “what does it matter, he will just tell me exactly how I should do it anyway.” Right there – you killed their innovation, creativity, and probably their motivation. If this continues, you may cause high turnover on your teams. 2. They treat people they lead like they are not valuable, like they are literally worth less than the leader. If you treat your team like they are your servants, rather than amazing people who are learning and growing, or if you forget they are major enablers to the overall success of the team, they will find somewhere else to work. No one on this planet wants to be treated like a second-class citizen. Especially YOUR own team. 3. They use a heavy-handed approach to decision making. This is a “My way or the high-way” kind of leadership. This is very archaic, very old-school type thinking. If the leader just declares that they are right and makes every decision, this will majorly shut down a team. Any innovation, process improvement, or other improvement will be lost. Nothing will change – and the team will probably begin to find ways to actively work against you. 4. They show favoritism. A leader who is very obvious about who their favorite people are in a workplace will definitely crush the spirit of many people in the work force. It is also possible they could hurt the spirit of the one who is the favorite, because if the entire workforce knows that one person is the boss’s favorite, they may all treat that one person poorly or exclude them from collaborative activities. This entire situation is horrible for morale and will make the workplace very toxic. It is a better option to treat everyone has ethically and fairly as possible. If most people believe their contribution matters, the overall climate will be at a more positive level. What can YOU do if you feel like someone is crushing your spirit, but they may not mean to hurt you? In this case, the best thing really is to have an honest conversation with the other person and see if the behavior can be rectified. Another option, if you feel it was not on purpose, is to forgive them and move on – especially if it was rare. What can you do if you feel like you are the victim of a very intentional workplace bully? 1. Do not blame yourself, you never deserve to be treated so poorly. 2. Try not to over think it, and try not to think about it away from the workplace. 3. Get it documented some over and over. This includes any meeting where you report it, the times and details of the occurrences, and any formal grievances you may file. Make sure anything written is pure facts with no emotion. 4. Make sure if you are going to report the bully or if you are going to start documenting it, that it really is inappropriate behavior. If you are doing shoddy work, and your boss gives you fair, honest feedback – that is not necessarily bullying you. 5. Do not wait to report the problems if you believe a workplace bully is lurking throughout your organization. Remember, you were put on this earth for a purpose and if you are a true genuine, driven, women - you are focused on doing the right thing and making the world a better place - for yourself and others. Do not allow others to crush your spirit - be strong! And… if you do encounter a true workplace bully, report them. You will not only help yourself, but many others as well! Someone we think you would like to know more about is: Michelle Obama She was the first African-American “First Lady” of the United States, she is also a promoter of healthy families, service members, and international adolescent girls education. Michelle grew up on the south side of Chicago with her parents and brother. She was a very gifted young girl. In middle school, she was put in French and accelerated courses in Biology. She also graduated from her high school, one of the first that was put up in her city for gifted kids, as a salutatorian. From there she went to Princeton and received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and then went on to Harvard law school and received a law degree. Soon after this she became the advisor to Barack, where after numerous attempts on Barack’s side, they ended up falling in love. Once Barack became President she began to volunteer at different places like homeless shelters and soup kitchens and also made appearances at public schools and would talk about the importance of of education and volunteer work. In the final speech she gave as First Lady, she spoke to the younger Americans saying, “I want our young people to know that they matter, that they belong. So don't be afraid. You hear me, young people? Don't be afraid. Be focused. Be determined. Be hopeful. Be empowered. Empower yourself with a good education. Then get out there and use that education to build a country worthy of your boundless promise. Lead by example with hope; never fear." Inspirational Quote of the Week: I’ve never had to unscrew another woman's light bulb to shine… -Unknown This quote is SO right! Book Review: Genuine driven women read lots of books! We’ll make sure to recommend a book each week that will inspire you or help you on your journey to success! This week’s book is: Forged In Crisis By Nancy Koehn If you’d like to buy this book in any format, including audio books, click this link: http://amzn.to/2CIsPZj I absolutely loved this book, and I know you will too! It is a story of five different historical figures who were normal people like you and I. The leadership insights covered in this book will be of interest to a wide range of listeners - including those in government, business, education, and the arts. Harvard Business School historian Nancy Koehn wrote Forged in Crisis and she puts the spotlight on five masters of crisis: Polar explorer Ernest Shackleton President Abraham Lincoln Legendary abolitionist Frederick Douglass Nazi-resisting clergyman Dietrich Bonhoeffer Environmental crusader Rachel Carson. What each of these five very different figures have in common? Why do their extraordinary stories continue to amaze and inspire? In her book, Nancy Koehn answers those questions and offers remarkable examples by which to judge leaders in our own time. She begins each of the book's five sections by showing her protagonist on the precipice of a great crisis: Shackleton marooned on an Antarctic ice floe; Lincoln on the verge of seeing the Union collapse; escaped slave Douglass facing possible capture; Bonhoeffer agonizing over how to counter absolute evil with faith; Carson racing against the cancer ravaging her body in a bid to save the planet. The narrative then reaches back to each person's childhood and shows the individual growing - step by step - into the person he or she will ultimately become. As we follow each leader's against-all-odds journey, we begin to glean an essential truth: Leaders are not born but made. In a book dense with epiphanies, the most galvanizing one may be that the power to lead courageously resides in each of us. Yes, this book is essential reading for a genuine driven woman. We're taking a queer-slanted look at the much-lauded first giallo from Dario Argento, the film that set in motion the tide of gialli to come out of Italy in the 70s. The Bird With The Crystal Plumage is a taut, stylish thriller with not one but TWO queer characters - but how did this product of its time aimed at a macho audience stand up to an LGBT grilling in 2017? Only one way to find out! See what gialli have in common with Scooby Doo and telenovelas, hear all about Turd Girl's First Date, not to mention Daddy Creamy, the Vagina Eye and the Screaming Mimi. We're on form in this very funny episode. Giallo fans will never look at an art gallery the same again...
One of my favorite things to do is walk around New York just checking street art from block to block. On my walks I’ll catch the latest murals, graffiti, stickers and wheat paste art. If you don’t know what wheat paste art is, wheat paste is a gel or liquid adhesive made from wheat flour or starch and water. That glue thats usually made in a big bucket is then used for paper artwork and then pasted on smooth walls. You’ve probably seen it and ya don’t even know it. Think Shepherd Ferry and his project Obey Giant, then theres Adam Cost, or Swoon, theres Bunny M, uhh there is also JR of the Inside Out Project. Today’s guest is Libby but most people probably know her from her street art, Phoebe New York. Phoebe can be found in the form stickers and wheatepaste art throughout the streets of New York. I met up with Libby in Washington Square Park and she walked me through the good, the bad and the ugly of being a street artist. In this episode we talk about shooting film photography in Paris, her love of vintage book covers, writing, becoming an artist, her first solo show, transitioning into a street artist, putting up stickers, her first night of wheat pasting, getting arrested, meeting the New York City Vandal Squad, how her alter ego Phoebe was born, subliminal messaging, letting go of crutches and much much more. Before you begin this episode or while you’re listening to this episode you should visit Phoebe instagram at phoebenewyork just to get an idea of what her work looks like and have a reference to what we are talking about as we make our way through her journey as an artist. Of course you can find links to her IG and everything we talking about in this episode at below.
