We’re nearing the finish line of 2024, and wow what a year. Boeing’s year started with a bang, but not in a good way. In January, a door-sized panel blew off of a Boeing 737 Max 9 jet mid-flight. They also got a new CEO and endured a 53 day machinist strike. The Seattle Public Library, SeaTac Airport, and the Highline school district all got cyber attacked. Seattle Public Schools went from planning to close 20 schools to planning to close zero, University of Washington joined the big 10, and some zebras broke loose near North Bend. There’s a lot to reflect on, and thankfully our friends over at Week in Review took time to look back on the year for their Year in Review event. Recent protests have ignited debate over whether blocking traffic should be a federal crime. Activists recently targeted major highways and airport access roads nationwide, including a significant disruption at Seatac Airport, where 46 protesters were charged. The demonstrators, using a tactic known as a "sleeping dragon," effectively halted traffic, impacting thousands and delaying flights. The suggestion to elevate such obstructions to a federal offense underscores a growing frustration with protests that impede daily life and raise safety concerns. This incident highlights the balance between public demonstration rights and maintaining order, with calls for stricter penalties to deter such disruptive actions. #TrafficLaws #ProtestReform #PublicSafety --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/darien-dunstan3/message

The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Dr. Vernice L. Haddix. A student of aeronautics and formed Manager of Land Sight Operations at Sea-Tac Airport in Washington state, we'll discuss Dr. Haddix's 2022 dissertation: The Motivation to Lead and Black Men's Lived Experiences in Airport Management. Dr. Haddix highlights that there is a substantial lack of research on what motivates black males to seek leadership positions in the workplace and even less data on the black male experience in the field of aviation. To make it explicit, in 2020, the Federal Aviation Administration reported that: “Of the 519 U.S. primary commercial service airports, fewer than 10 are led by African American men.” We'll explore the interviews that Dr. Haddix conducted with the rare black dude who manages a major airport. Gus noted that many of these well-educated aviators used a variety of exotic metaphors to convey their thoughts and experiences about the System of White Supremacy/Racism. One black male stated bluntly that “You have to be white.” Other black males seemed reluctant to acknowledge the existence of Racism at all. More than one black male openly acknowledged being ignorant about Racism - Gus is too. #AirRage #BlackMisadnry #TheCOWS15Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#
