It's an unfortunate reality that most people struggle to love themselves. In the type of World that we live in, which is predominately focused on externals, it can feel like there are 100 reasons a day to feel like we're not good enough and seemingly minimal proof that we are lovable. Let alone positive messaging or encouragement for an inner knowing that we are inherently unconditionally lovable, free from anything we do or possess. So with the odds against us, how the heck are we supposed to learn to love ourselves and release the constant striving to be enough? On this Identify & Heal Solo episode I offer some steps to begin finding and breaking down the barriers within that keep us from self love. Exposing the core false beliefs that keep us feeling beholden to a life of constant critique, judgement, and disapproval and opening ourselves to the truth of who we really are which are infinite, Divine Feminine beings with immense capacity for love, joy, and acceptance. Then I share some ways to build those self esteem and confidence muscles which can become our daily practice to choose love over rejection of the self. We're back with a brand new name. Self-Regard will delve into the intersection of mental health, identity, and creativity, with the underlying truth that: a strong self-regard affects our approach to challenges, relationships with others, and views of our place in the world; and a healthy self-regard is marked by faith in the unseen, resilience, and self-compassion.In this first series, over the next few weeks, I am drawing back the curtain on how I contextualize identity and the thoughtful meaning behind self-regard. Self-Regard Reflections is composed of six parts – essentially six pieces of identity – that I consider most profound and considerable; starting with solitude; the peaceful, quiet, singular experience of being alone. While the majority of these episodes are autobiographical, I will also leave you with tactics, quotes, and resources I've personally used to better understand myself and the world around me. My hope is that you will feel seen and called to discover a broadened perspective.Consider gathering a writing tool, a notebook, and a warm cup of something you love. Ideally, you will leave with thoughts that expand beyond this podcast.Best regards xPlease subscribe to stay engagedFollow along on Instagram @rileyblanksreedAnd reach out with kind words to riley@wokebeauty.com Hosted on Acast. Transactional self love is when you withhold love for yourself until you meet certain requirements to be "worthy" of kindness, compassion and love for yourself. You're more likely doing this and don't even realize it.Transactional self love can sound like, I'll think you're pretty once your hair is dyed and you look more like that person on Instagram, or I'll think you're beautiful once you can fit into a certain size, or I'll think you're accomplished and have a purpose once you graduate from school and get that amazing job. And so you withhold liking yourself, being nice to yourself, loving yourself until those certain criteria are met. In this episode I'll be talking about transactional self love, the three reasons why we've adopted this kind of self love, why it's not only affecting our relationship with ourselves but all of the relationships in our lives and what we can do to let go of the transactional self love and instead adopt unconditional self love. What you'll learn in today's episode:The best show you need to be watching that is an example of unconditional self love. What transactional self love looks like in your life. Why transactional self love is so detrimental to your relationships, including the relationship with yourself. The three reasons you've adopted transactional self love. How to start to adopt unconditional self love and let go of the transactional self love you've been using. In the 16th century, Michel de Montaigne created a new form of literary self-expression. He called these short pieces "essays," from the French verb "essayer" - "to try." In Episode 48 of everyone's favorite literary podcast hosted by genetic duplicates, Jude and John "try" to explain the appeal of essays to them, and why they find it to be one of the most satisfying and thought-provoking of all literary forms. We then go on to recommend some of our personal favorite collections and writers of essays, which ones we badly want to read and just haven't gotten to, and which writers are regarded as masters of the craft. If you had to rate your organization's teachability on a Scale from 1 - 10, how would you rate it? How teachable are you? Is being teachable or coachable important to you (as a leader)? Your organization, family, team will value or reflect the values YOU value. Would your team, staff, company, peers, say you're teachable? Why? I was a part of an organization that was very narcissistic b/c a number of the senior leaders were narcissistic. How teachable is a narcissist? Narcissists & narcissistic organizations will say exactly what they think you want to hear. They'll say seemingly the right things…but their actions will prove otherwise. Actions & actual change & transformation is the real “metric” / “KPIs” of whether or not you're teachable or your organization is teachable. I was with an acquaintance a number of years ago sitting down at a restaurant & I asked him if he was teachable. Him: “Of course.” Me: “Why do you say that?” Him: Couldn't answer. What have you changed in your life the past 90 days? -a thought? -an action? -a habit stopped? -a habit started? I asked the #2 guy in a multi-billion dollar division of a company, in charge of 3,000 employees, “What's your personal growth plan? What books are you reading? What podcasts are you listening to?” “I don't have time for that. When I get home, I'm too tired for any of that stuff.” Was he teachable? It takes emotional intelligence to be teachable / coachable. SELF-PERCEPTION Self-Regard is respecting oneself while understanding and accepting one's strengths and weaknesses. Self-Regard is often associated with feelings of inner strength and self-confidence. Self-Actualization is the willingness to persistently try to improve oneself and engage in the pursuit of personally relevant and meaningful objectives that lead to a rich and enjoyable life. Emotional Self-Awareness includes recognizing and understanding one's own emotions. This includes the ability to differentiate between subtleties in one's own emotions while understanding the cause of these emotions and the impact they have on one's own thoughts and actions and those of others. Fixed mindset vs a Growth Mindset -Which one serves you better? List the benefits of a Fixed Mindset vs the Benefits of a Growth Mindset. What are the barriers to a growth mindset? hubris / pride ego insecurity some of the stories you've created about what's important or valued Back to the main question: How teachable is your organization? How teachable are you? ————————————————— We're on the receiving end of each other's EQ (or lack thereof) every day in every relationship. In Episode 3, I explore the toll that shame takes on binge eaters, and about why it's worth it to let it go. One of the best ways to rout out shame is to shine a light on it and talk about what we've kept hidden—without apology. Stay tuned for some dirt on a cake, a garbage can, and a bottle of dish soap! I'll talk about self-regard as a better choice for ending binge eating—plus, it just feels way better! In this episode, I'll also start to unravel what's going on in your brain when you binge and how self-regard can help your brain wire a new neural pathway away from bingeing.
