Two years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the federal right to abortion. Even prior to the Dobbs decision, access was a challenge for abortion seekers. The Guttmacher Institute, a research organization that supports abortion rights, reports that the proportion of patients traveling out-of-state to obtain an abortion doubled from 2020 to 2023. Nearly one in five patients cross state lines to obtain an abortion. How do things look on the ground in Maryland, a state with express protections for abortion? Leviathan Hunters and Line Bulls risk their lives against the supernatural so that the rest of the Imperium never have to. Despite this great service, society at large would rather keep them both out of sight with Leviathan Hunters being out to see for a third of the year. Perhaps for this reason, the general public holds a romantic idea of a sailor's life while the ever present Line Bull will never be anything but picked on. But when tragedy takes one Hunter ship, it is a crew of Line Bulls who must pick the slack and prevent further catastrophe. Drix takes a pounding. Pip saves a life. Ditri leaves a surprise. It's Hump Day! Sam and Emma speak with Jeremy Kimbrell, a measurement machine operator at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Vance, Alabama and member of the volunteer organizing committee at the plant, to discuss the plant's recent decision to file for a union election with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), to join the United Auto Workers (UAW). Then, they speak with Terri Gerstein, director of the Wagner Labor Initiative at New York University, to discuss the recent efforts in different states to weaken or strengthen child labor laws. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on Arizona's major State Supreme Court decision, Biden's rhetorical and policy developments on Israel, inflation, immigration policy, EPA, ESDA, and FAA operations, and the candidacies of RFK and Cornel West, before diving a little deeper into Arizona's Supreme Court decision reverting the state's reproductive policy to an 1864 law. Jeremy Kimbrell then joins, diving right into his history working at Mercedes' Alabama plant of around 5,000, and the progressive attempts to organize one of two (the other being in South Carolina) Mercedes plans not represented by a collective bargaining agreement, with the major revelations at the UAW in the wake of COVID coming about at the perfect time, and allowing the plant to begin their unionization efforts with the backing of a major union. After tackling the major emphasis on a democratic organizing process, Kimbrell steps back to parse through the recent unfair labor practice filings the plant has filed against Mercedes both domestically, and in German courts, and how they could play into the ongoing unionization process. Terri Gerstein then walks Sam and Emma through the role of child labor law in the US, largely setting stronger safety and work regulations for child labor on both the federal and state levels, and what ongoing attacks from the right are doing to undermine these regulations, including gutting permit requirements and redefining work to allow kids to work in previously-considered-hazardous workplaces. After looking at the particular roles of “fissured workplaces,” and right-wing state legislatures in worsening this issue, wrapping up the interview by tackling the additional issue of the US' incredibly weak mechanisms of labor enforcement and accountability, and how we can start to change that. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma dive deep into the theocratic GOP's ongoing attack on abortion, from Arizona legislators praying on the state seal to debates and defenses of Trump's pivot to the “moderate” position of “let the states outlaw it,” before touching on the months late Democratic backlash to Israel's ongoing genocide. Peter from California dives into the US relationship to antisemitism (and a new bill to enforce it), Kevin McCarthy goes on the offensive against his own pedophilic petard, and Teagan from Seattle updates MR on the dangers of a new British trans healthcare report. James from Long Island gives a worrying update on Nassau's Bruce Blakeman, and Stephen Crowder and co. share their thoughts on women's freedoms, plus, your calls and IMs! Culture shock for roaming Line Bulls is not uncommon, as each locomotive can be run entirely differently than every other despite the existence of Imperial regulation and convention. The cities of the Imperium are cloaked in night at the best of times, and a darkened alleyway carries no special menace. For decades, abortion funds have worked tirelessly to bridge the gaps in access for people who needed abortion care. Their very existence highlights the fact that Roe failed to protect and address the needs of many communities marginalized by systems of oppression. Lexis Dotson-Dufault, Executive Director of the Abortion Fund of Ohio (AFO), sits down to talk with us about her first abortion, the importance of reproductive justice, and why Roe was never enough.Having grown up in a conservative environment, Lexis initially did not see abortion as an option when she discovered she was experiencing an unwanted pregnancy. Open and de-stigmatized conversations about abortion empowered Lexis to get the care that she needed. Now an abortion storyteller and champion herself, Lexis's abortion story exemplifies that abortion storytelling changes and saves lives. As Executive Director of AFO—an organization grounded in reproductive justice—Lexis has borne first-hand witness to the profound impact of the Dobbs decision. In the journey towards collective liberation, it is imperative that we center the visionary leadership of Black reproductive justice activists and organizations and transform Roe. This is the second part of the Layover in Tyrmoor, now split in two (as all Layovers will be from now on). The first half an hour is pretty emotional and there's an offhand mention of Crowl possessing someone to commit suicide at ~43:30A cliff where the sky meets the land. Below it, a shore where the land meets the sea. A witch's ritual, where the past will meet the present. The city of Tyrmoor gives to the Line Bulls only what they themselves have brought. In this episode of "Lead-HER-ship with Tamie Wilson", Tamie interviews Maggie Scotece, the Interim Executive Director of the Abortion Fund of Ohio. Tamie and her guest delved into the heart of the fight for reproductive rights in Ohio, and we are excited to share some key takeaways with you.The Battle for Issue One: We discussed the campaign for Issue One, a constitutional amendment aimed at protecting reproductive decision-making in Ohio. The journey has been challenging, but the importance of keeping these decisions in the hands of individuals, not politicians, fuels our fight.Busting Myths and Misinformation: We tackled the misinformation surrounding Issue One, including false narratives about its impact on trans and sex changes. It's crucial to understand that this amendment doesn't change consent laws or allow unrestricted abortion, but includes a fetal viability limit. The Role of the Abortion Fund of Ohio: Maggie shed light on the invaluable work of the Abortion Fund of Ohio. They provide financial assistance, support, and education to individuals seeking abortions, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for their clients. The Waiting Period and Financial Burden: We discussed the 24-hour waiting period in Ohio post-counseling before proceeding with an abortion. Often, this period extends due to factors like doctor availability, adding to the financial burden of the procedure.Debunking Abortion Myths: We addressed common myths, like the misconception that abortion prevents future pregnancies. We emphasized the importance of ongoing birth control counseling post-abortion and the need to debunk disinformation surrounding it.The Power of Personal Stories: Maggie highlighted the importance of sharing personal stories to humanize the issue of abortion. She also discussed the potential consequences of overturning the constitutional amendment and the rising criminalization of miscarriages.I hope these insights spark your curiosity and encourage you to listen to our full conversation. Together, we can challenge the stigma, misinformation, and restrictive laws surrounding reproductive healthcare. Remember, your voice matters, and every vote counts in the fight for reproductive rights in Ohio.Stay tuned for more enlightening discussions! The northernmost city of Severos is Tyrmoor, named in the fashion of Skovlan. Though Severosi do live in the highlands, many prefer the plains and common Imperial reckoning places the beginning of Skovlan at the lightning barrier of Tyrmoor. On this week's harrowing tale of Art, Bad at Sports visits the Salt Shed for Shred the Shed, an event celebrating the latest release of Portable Gray, a biannual journal published by The University of Chicago Press. In the first segment, Duncan and Ryan get the scoop from Megan Jeyifo from Chicago Abortion Fund on how to throw a righteous abortion party. In part two, Duncan and Ryan are interviewed by brothers Shane Heyl, founder of Shake Junt - a skateboard/apparel company, and Brent Heyl, Director of Music at 16 on Center, co-organizer of Shred the Shed. Obviously it is all too much to explain, so just listen.

Now that the Line Bulls have faced Dust Devils, freed the spirits of a ghost train, and formed a "friendship coalition", the cast of Ghosts on a Train discuss episodes 60 to 62 along with guest Xan. We discuss how Xan came to be our guest, Guy's desires for Pip and Candace's relationship, player suspicion of guests, and how success and failure feel in games. Life on the Ghost Lines is carried over the bones of the dead, and every train may one day become a coffin. Before Line Bulls, there were merely electrofields wrapping each train like a raincoat; and after the first hurricane the Ministry knew that something more was needed. Line Bulls fight and die, as necessary as the plasm pushing the locomotives forward and when the entire crew of the Pride of Duskwall stands together they will be able to protect even their own protectors. Patients needed abortion funds even before the fall of Roe v. Wade in order to access care, but those needs have skyrocketed after Dobbs and as the abortion access landscape becomes more fractured. Tyler Barbarin, Director of Grants and Development for the Louisiana Abortion Fund, sits down to talk with us about how abortion funds are working overtime to help people access the care they need in the United States. An abortion fund acts as mutual aid, facilitating and providing access to logistical help for those seeking abortion care. Before the fall of Roe, abortion was still incredibly difficult to access in multiple regions of the country. Abortion funds coordinated logistics, organized travel, scheduled appointments, counseled patients before and after medical visits, and fundraised for access costs. In the current legal environment, abortion funds and their ability to assist patients varies from state-to-state. In Louisiana, for example, abortion is illegal, so abortion funds in the state may look like coordinating travel to and care in states where abortion access is still possible. The logistical, informational, and financial barriers that people now face are astronomically larger due to multi-state travel being introduced to the abortion access landscape. Many—particularly cisgendered, straight white women—will have the resources and support to access an abortion even in environments that make it increasingly difficult to do so. Those who are most impacted by abortion-restrictive registration are BIPOC folks, those with limited or low incomes, and those who are already parents. And, despite abortion fund's best efforts to assist, some barriers to abortion care will now be completely insurmountable to some, especially those who are most marginalized. CONTENT WARNING: Traumatic Cannibalism Recollection (~38:23-41:38) This 45 minute screener was played as part of the Rainbow Roll Fest 2023 Showcase. Watch it on Youtube hereGhosts on a Train is a bi-weekly tabletop podcast where four friends play Ghost Lines, an RPG by John Harper. Take a ride on "The Pride of Duskwall", an electric train traveling through ghost infested territory! Our gang of Line Bulls will ensure your safe arrival by (lightning) hook or by crook! Using a game system that shares a setting with Blades in the Dark and specifically focusing on the Unquiet Dead means that Ghosts on a Train sometimes goes to dark places with regards to death, Dickensian inequality, and the cruelty of Imperialism. But the gang is always quick with a joke, and the players talk about the narrative and their feelings both on and off mic for their own safety and for that of anyone listening. They're normally audio only, but hope you enjoy them taking the opportunity to be on camera as they play a “Could be Canonical” one off Ghost Lines adventure.Ghost Lines by John Harper. On Nov. 7th, Ohioans will have the chance to vote on a constitutional amendment to protect reproductive rights. This amendment is polling very well, with about 59% of the public in support. Upset by this, Republican legislators have added an election on August 8th to vote on Issue 1, which would change the threshold to amend the state constitution by referendum from 50% + 1 vote to 60% — virtually guaranteeing that the Nov. reproductive rights measure will fail. We need to stop Issue 1 by boosting turnout for the August 8th election (which is a historically low turnout time, which is why they picked it). In this episode, I talk about how. #VoteNoInAugust To find your polling place: VoteOhio.gov To volunteer to help spread the word, visit PostcardsToVoters.org To read more about what's at stake, check out this Indivisible piece To support abortion funds in Ohio, visit the Abortion Fund of Ohio --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/natasha-t-baker/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/natasha-t-baker/support
Indigo, Badge Name Brogan, is not the first Line Bull to suggest collaboration between Line Bulls for the betterment of them all. But the powerlessness felt by the Bulls is well reinforced and difficult to surmount alone. The Ministry of Preservation kills the very idea of Unionization before it can enter a Line Bull's mind, because once it is there they know that it will never leave. Brogan meets a King. On episode 130, Dan talks with Danielle Bessett of the Ohio Policy Evaluation Network and Morgan Mitchell of the Abortion Fund of Ohio about the state of changing abortion access in Ohio, and especially medication abortion. The conversation includes pending legal cases that stand to increase health disparities throughout Ohio, two consequential elections--in August and November--designed by their architects to ignore the will of a majority of Ohioans who support basic abortion rights, and the reaction of the medical community to this incursion into patient-provider decision-making. Show notes at prognosisohio.com/episodes/medicationabortion.
A familiar scene plays out on an unfamiliar train. The whims of the noble Lord Glixterbury call for the Soaring Skovlander to stop in the middle of the deathlands, and as an unspoken rule the Imperial Railways should answer his call. But this train has a gang of Line Bulls that stampede together. Sometime later: Andrel confounds Georgie with an unknown power. Pip goes on a date. The Talkbacks we've been doing on Patreon are now going to be posted there early and then put on the Main feed between the end of a Line and the Layover for the start of a new one. This will give us a chance to talk through and reflect on a full Line, as well as giving Greg more time so they don't fall behind on any edits. Enjoy a minimally edited discussion of the creation of Ghosts on a Train! Now that the Line Bulls have encountered ghost Taji, tested Cricket the Whisper's Spirit Locator, and uncovered the secret of The Creature "Friday Feeling", the cast of Ghosts on a Train discuss episodes 56 to 58 along with guest Jaci Seelagy. We discuss Cricket's origins as a Blades in the Dark character, whether they would do another in game holiday, the consequences of killing Taji the Tank Engine, and how Greg would run this Line differently. Ohio SAFE Act H.B. 68 with Rep. Gary Click Protecting Ohio's Children from Transitioning Drugs and Surgery State Rep. Gary Click of Ohio's 88th District has re-introduced Ohio's SAFE Act, H.B. 68. Last year, the legislation received hearings in committee from young people who had gone through the horrible experience of transitioning from their birth gender by hormonal treatment and in some cases irreversible surgeries. Their heart-wrenching stories stirred the committee members, and the evidence was undeniable of how harmful this indoctrination of gender dysphoria is to our young people. Ohio's SAFE Act, H.B. 68, is sponsored by State Rep. Gary Click and 40 other House members. Hearings should begin in the next few weeks. Call your representative and urge them to support Ohio's SAFE Act, H.B. 68. The groups behind this radical abortion amendment are Pro-Choice Ohio, Planned Parenthood, Abortion Fund of Ohio, American Civil Liberty Union (ACLU), and a group of abortion doctors. Pro-Life Ohioans will need to come out in force to defeat this ballot proposal. Here to discuss this challenge is Laura Strietmann, Executive Director of Cincinnati Right To Life. Abortion funds work overtime to help patients hurdle financial and logistical barriers to abortion access, and their work has gotten increasingly more difficult after the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Oriaku Njoku, Executive Director of the National Network of Abortion Funds, sits down with us to talk about the power of abortion funds, what they do for communities, and how they facilitate access to abortion care across the country. An abortion fund acts as mutual aid, facilitating and providing access to logistical help for those seeking abortion care. This help may include financial support, transportation, patient education, and more. Patients often reach out to a fund after they've scheduled an appointment, and the fund will work closely with the patient to come up with the financial difference needed to receive medical services (which is $500 on average). Funds work with other funds across the United States to ensure that money, resources, and support are given to those seeking an abortion. Oftentimes, people that reach out to abortion funds for assistance are those in already marginalized communities, such as Black folks, Indigenous people, non-Black people of color, young people, those living rurally, etc. Those living in rural Mississippi-- a state that only had one abortion clinic before the overturning of Roe v. Wade—have compounding and intersectional factors that make accessing abortion care increasingly difficult, such as transportation, geography, income, race, ethnicity, and pre-existing abortion restrictions in the state, among others. In fact, over 90% of those living in the Southeast United States live in a county without an abortion provider. At the core of abortion funds is reproductive justice, or the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities, as defined by Sister Song Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective. It is important to understand the difference between the reproductive health, rights, and justice frameworks and what it means to have human rights and social justice at the center of these conversations. Talking about abortion destigmatizes and normalizes care, so let's make sure we have these conversations now and year-round. Donate to abortion funds! The mood is dour on the Pride of Duskwall as the train makes it's way non-stop through Thorn to Sevrin. Walker's near-death at the Journeyman ceremony stirs many conflicting emotions in the hearts of the Line Bulls, feelings that are only articulated with great effort. But an important passenger on the Line brings along a more immediate threat. Andrel forgets about Ji'mani. Pip decides to remember. Drix must run to the rescue. Content Warning: Gun violence(~00:36:20-00:42:15)- Someone is shot, and there is a brief moment of civilian panic. The gunshot wound is tended to, in a stressful and traumatic situation but without gory description. Though it has only been two days in Belisle, the Line Bulls have now experienced life outside of the Imperium for longer than many who will live and die behind a lightning barrier. Making an appearance here on the main feed is the 50th episode edition of our TalkBacks that we've been doing on Patreon. Enjoy a minimally edited discussion of the creation of Ghosts on a Train! Now that the Line Bulls have returned from the unplanned hiatus, done a live show, and visited Drix's home of Belisle, the cast of Ghosts on a Train discuss the milestone of the 50th episode and the creation of the story so far. We discuss Greg's attempts at metaphor with Human Magic, whether Andrel trusts adults now, why Pip is sticking his neck out, and how it was decided that Drix would be a Magician. The gang also discusses the creation of Arcane Fortress Belisle, and how we're probably more than halfway through this campaign now! http://www.onesevendesign.com/ghostlines/ (Ghost Lines) by John Harper. The Magicians of Severos remember the land before the cataclysm, living as they do outside of Imperial society. Earlier this week, the people of Kansas went out to the polls and had their voice heard… coming out in record numbers to say they want abortion rights protected in the state constitution. In this episode, Diana chats with Josh Siebenaler, organizer with the Kansas Abortion Fund. They discuss what organizing for abortion rights looks like in traditionally red-state like Kansas, what other states are having abortion rights in ballot measures this coming year, and why abortion rights is one of the top issues of the midterms. Josh has excellent advice for those looking to get invovled in abortion rights activism, and shares with us a list of local Kansas-based businesses that support the Kansas Abortion Fund. Amerikanerne diskuterer stort set altid abortrettigheder. This week we had the opportunity to connect with Ash Williams, who is the Volunteer Coordinator for the Carolina Abortion Fund, and is also one of the architects of the Charlotte Uprising which they've been on the show before to talk about. I felt very lucky to get to talk with them again about the work they've been doing with Carolina Abortion Fund, but also about abortion in general and about expanding the meaning of reproductive justice work to encompass de-colonial views on care and healthcare work, environmental racism such as is going on in Flint Michigan, climate catastrophe, how this topic fits into a broader scope of reproductive capabilities being stolen from people, and many other aspects. They also spoke on how we talk about abortion from their own perspective as a Black trans person, and how transmisogyny, the erasure of transfeminine experience, and transphobia can play into how this issue is thought of. They also give suggestions for folks already doing reproductive justice work moving forward to create intentional access for all who need or want that. To help support this fund, to learn more about them and to donate if you can, you can visit their website https://www.carolinaabortionfund.org/ Shout Your Abortion, this is a consciousness raising project which has a new book out which you can see at their website. We've all been angry about the oppressive abortion laws in Alabama, Missouri, and more states - and here's something you can do right now. This week Emo Social Club is hosting Emo Karaoke at Emporium Chicago to raise money for the Chicago Abortion Fund. So for the podcast, we interviewed Lara Haddadin about the CAF, what it does to help people in need of reproductive justice, and how you can help. Of course, one thing you can do this week is come to Karaoke and contribute through our fundraising efforts. We are raffling off great prizes (Riot Fest passes, anyone?) donated by awesome bands and Chicago businesses like Empty Bottle and Soothsayer Hot Sauces. We look forward to seeing you and singing with you on Wednesday June 5th. For more info: Also…probably noticed this pod is going up on a Monday.
