- Carl JungWhat is the difference between forcing things to get them done and operating from a position of power? When we force things, we operate from a mindset of winning or losing, or from a place of scarcity. In contrast, when we operate from power, we recognize that we can gain from both winning and losing, and strive for improvement. In every situation, we learn something valuable. As a result, we grow, and everything around us can improve as well. This means we are operating from a position of power rather than forcing outcomes. As a Zen quote says, “The grass grows by itself.” You don't need to pull the grass; it grows naturally. This reflects the concept of Wu Wei: to do without doing, or to be in the flow. When I put myself under pressure, I become ineffective. For instance, all those rigid concepts about writing a book—such as writing a page every day or structuring it first—are absolute nonsense. Instead, write when you enjoy it! I have written books in many noisy places: in the mountains, on the beach, at train stations, and in crowded hotel lobbies. Sometimes, I was freezing; I didn't care. The key is to write what is inside you without judgment, and afterward, you can structure it. If something doesn't fit, delete it. This is the approach of many successful authors: don't force it!**How do we get into a position of power?**We need to bring light into our shadow. Carl Jung describes these different inner voices as our shadow—comprising suppressed emotions, thoughts, and experiences. Until we integrate our shadow into our persona, we cannot operate from a position of power and fully harness our potential. We have many different personas inside us, and if we are unaware of this, our unconsciousness determines our lives. By bringing awareness to our unconsciousness, we can identify the various personas that influence our decisions. For example, the super-ego and our inner child are often in conflict. If we want to enjoy our lives, we should lean into our inner child and playfully address our problems. The super-ego tends to force things, which may not be beneficial in many situations. While the super-ego has its place—for getting things done, being punctual, adhering to our principles, and maintaining our morals—our inner child seeks joy and creativity. Moreover, we all possess masculine and feminine aspects within us. The traits, habits, and emotions that we dislike in others are often reflections of ourselves, despite our denial. As Goethe said, “Your own sins you first discover in other people.”If we don't acknowledge and accept our shadow, we will waste a lot of energy fighting against it. For example, men often seek new romantic partners, while their girlfriends or spouses may resent this behavior. Ironically, women sometimes experience boredom in their sex lives with their partners after about six months. Unaddressed emotions arise during crises, turning our lives into chaos. Crises reveal our suppressed negative emotions, and this awareness is valuable because it helps us understand what lies within us.We should accept every emotion, thought, and aspect of our shadow; otherwise, we cannot fully enjoy our lives. Initially, it is difficult when our darker sides come to the surface, but fighting against negativity only exacerbates the problem. Our goals related to money and fame are just a part of life and shouldn't replace love and relationships.**What about shame?**Shame is the belief that we are flawed. It creates a shadow that leads to negative self-judgment. For instance, consider masturbation, a common act that many judge negatively despite its prevalence.**What about guilt?**Guilt involves judging our actions—feeling that what we did was wrong. We should openly discuss our shame and guilt to accept both fully. My Video: Once your shadow finds light, the shift happens. https://youtu.be/J7UqosdQ88cMy Audio: https://divinesuccess.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/Podcast4/Once-your-shadow-finds-light-the-shift-happens.mp3

Today With LuAnn Nigara: Over the past few episodes of Window Treatments for Profit, we've tackled the four biggest reasons why clients ghost: ✔ Not standing out as the expert ✔ Overwhelming them with too many choices (decision fatigue) ✔ Fear of making a costly mistake ✔ And now, in our final episode of this series—unaddressed concerns or objections. This episode dives into the silent hesitation that stops clients from saying "yes." When they don't voice their doubts, they simply disappear. Chrissy Fleming: The Impact of Unaddressed Conflict on Agile Team Health Read the full Show Notes and search through the world's largest audio library on Agile and Scrum directly on the Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast website: http://bit.ly/SMTP_ShowNotes. Chrissy shares a compelling story about a newly formed team working on retention that struggled with toxic behavior. The presence of a hostile team member created an environment where healthy conflict became impossible, leading to either unhealthy confrontations or complete avoidance. Despite attempts to address the situation, the lack of trust prevented team members from addressing the destructive behavior, ultimately resulting in the team's dissolution. Self-reflection Question: How do you currently handle toxic behavior in your team, and what steps could you take to build the psychological safety needed for addressing conflicts openly? Featured Book of the Week: How Toddlers Thrive by Tove Klein How Toddlers Thrive by Tove Klein explores brain function and human behavior, drawing surprising parallels between toddler development and adult interactions. Chrissy recommends it for its valuable insights into emotional intelligence and human nature, reminding us that in Agile environments, we're fundamentally dealing with human beings and their emotions. It often begins with something small but escalates into something immense. Unaddressed tiny issues can balloon into seemingly insurmountable problems. Similarly, minor actions, when left unchecked, can solidify into attitudes and character traits that bring even the greatest individuals down. Catch those 'little foxes' - before they ravage the vine of your life.

The way I think about it:We come into and leave this world accompanied by our souls. While here, one of our tasks is to maintain our connection to that inner wisdom, which guides and nourishes us in a world that otherwise can feel harsh and cold. Our soul doesn't judge us or try to fix us. It doesn't need us to be more or do more. Its unconditional love is akin to an adoring dog who only wants us to stop, be present, and see what it sees. The challenge is the neuronal wiring we develop from cultural inputs that discount this vital relationship with ourselves. We're trained to project onto others our strengths and even our shadow. We find ourselves disappointed when others can't carry that weight of our expectations. If this most vital relationship is neglected, our human connections suffer. Our relationships may feel shallow or intense and dramatic. We'll resent and blame others unconsciously for losing ourselves. Unaddressed, this comes out in the form of hurting others, or it gets repressed and fuels addiction, a range of symptoms, and chronic health conditions.Instead of rom-coms about finding the perfect person and living happily ever after, we need more stories about people falling in love with themselves. “I complete me.” The healthiest relationships are between people who honor this need in themselves and each other.Below is a blessing I print and include in birthday cards to those I love. To me, it speaks to the soul. This week, I share it with myself and with you - in honor of your arrival.Birthday Blessingby John O'Donohue (late Irish poet and, I would say, mystic)If you'd like to hear his lovely voice reading this, listen here at 8:15“Blessed be the mind that dreamed the dayThe blueprint of your lifeWould begin to glow on earth,Illuminating all the faces and voicesThat would arrive to inviteYour soul to growth.Praised be your father and mother,Who loved you before you were,And trusted to call you hereWith no idea who you would be.Blessed be those who have loved youInto becoming who you were meant to be,Blessed be those who have crossed your lifeWith dark gifts of hurt and lossThat have helped to school your mindIn the art of disappointment. When desolation surrounded you,Blessed be those who looked for youAnd found you, their kind handsUrgent to open a blue windowIn the gray wall formed around you.Blessed be the gifts you never notice,Your health, eyes to behold the world,Thoughts to countenance the unknown,Memory to harvest vanished days,Your heart to feel the world's waves,Your breath to breathe the nourishmentOf distance made intimate by earth. On this echoing-day of your birth,May you open the gift of solitudeIn order to receive your soul;Enter the generosity of silenceTo hear your hidden heart;Know the serenity of stillnessTo be enfolded anewBy the miracle of your being.”To learn more about the root causes of brain symptoms and the consultations that I offer, visit courtneysnydermd.comDisclaimer:This podcast is for educational purposes and not intended or implied to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment for yourself or others, including but not limited to patients you are treating (if you are a practitioner). World Hearing Day 2024 On this episode of the Youth Perspective, we bring awareness to World Hearing Day 2024 under the theme: Changing mindsets: Let's make ear and hearing care a reality for all! World Hearing Day 2024 will focus on overcoming the challenges posed by societal misperceptions and stigmatizing mindsets through awareness-raising and information-sharing, targeted at the public and healthcare providers. Globally, over 80% of ear and hearing care needs remain unmet. Unaddressed hearing loss poses an annual cost of nearly US$1 trillion globally. Deeply ingrained societal misperceptions and stigmatizing mindsets are key factors that limit efforts for preventing and addressing hearing loss. Changing mindsets related to ear and hearing care is crucial to improving access and mitigating the cost of unaddressed hearing loss. Dr. Steven Chen, a breast surgeon and Chief Medical Officer at ImpediMed, discusses the early detection and treatment of lymphedema, a type of swelling that often occurs after breast cancer treatments. Visual observation and measurements using a tape measure are the current, inaccurate methods of determining early warning signs. The ImpediMed SOZO device measures subtle changes in time for simple interventions such as wearing compression sleeves, now covered by Medicare, which can reverse the damage. Unaddressed, this condition can lead to severe functional problems. Steven explains, "The whole goal of ImpediMed is to help people find this when it's in stage zero or stage one when it can be reversed. It's a very simple set of treatments when you catch it early, primarily wearing a sleeve, a compression sleeve, and/or a compression glove. And with that, you can reverse almost all the stage zeros and probably somewhere between 80% to 90% of stage ones. And so you can see that if you can catch it early, this will go away with a fairly simple set of treatments." "As you get into stage two and stage three, you're now talking about much more aggressive treatments - things like massage, pumps, and nighttime pumps to try to get the swelling down. And usually, that just provides temporary relief. It almost never goes all the way back to the way it was. Now, there are plastic surgeons and microsurgeons who have started doing things like transplanting lymph nodes to try to get more drainage. And that could be helpful as well. But again, it's rare once you get to stage two or three to see getting back to how you were before surgery." "In stage one, you can start to have measurement differences a little bit if you use a tape measure regularly. But as you might imagine, using a tape measure regularly takes time, but it's also somewhat hard to do. If you've ever tried to measure yourself with just a fabric tape measure, you do it two or three times in a row, and you might get two or three different measurements. So, trying to measure someone every three to six months and do it with precisely the same amount of tension is fairly difficult. But I think the real primary thing is people don't realize that this happens, and if it does happen, they can turn it around. So, patients don't complain to their doctors because they don't realize it's a consequence of their treatment." #ImpediMed #Lymphedema #LymphedemaAwarenessMonth #LymphedemaPrevention #BreastCancerCare #BreastCancer #Survivorship impediMed.com Listen to the podcast here

StreetSmart Wisdom: Mindful and Practical Tips For Everyday Life
Welcome to another insightful episode of the StreetSmart Wisdom Podcast, where we delve into the depths of the human psyche and explore the potent intertwining of creativity and self-discovery. Today's episode, "Harnessing the Shadow for Creativity and Growth," welcomes two remarkable voices to the conversation. Our host, Steve Stein, founder of Better Listen and WisdomFeed Plus, joins forces with the esteemed Dr. Ido Cohen, a Bay Area clinical psychologist noted for his expertise in early childhood trauma, depression, and psychospiritual development. Together, they embark on a deep-dive into the rich terrain of Carl Jung's philosophies, shadow work, and the transformative power of imagination. They'll discuss how facing our darker aspects can lead to profound personal changes, as exemplified by narratives of individuals—ranging from musicians to Celtic poets—whose creative pursuits and encounters with their golden shadow have led them to authenticity and unexpected life paths. The dialogue extends to imagination's pivotal role in both healing and hindering, our tendencies to stagnate in familiar patterns, and the dynamic interplay between analytical reflection and artistic expression. They advise embracing curiosity and self-reflection, possibly through journaling or painting, to engage with our shadows. Furthermore, Mikey Brackett's contribution raises intriguing notions of the unconscious and shadow's influence, while our speakers touch upon archetypal images found in stories like Harry Potter and Peter Pan, and probe the depth of psychological impacts stemming from collective and personal trauma. In true StreetSmart spirit, you're invited to contemplate the "trembling child" within and understand the crucial balance between disappointment and creativity necessary for growth. By episode's end, Dr. Cohen extends an invitation for further connection, and both speakers encourage embracing the wisdom of dreams in the context of world conflict. We invite you to join this revelatory journey into understanding and integrating the shadow for a richer, more authentic life. And, as always, we're excited to offer you the chance to become a part of the WisdomFeed Plus community, where like-minded individuals come together on a quest for deeper knowledge and fulfillment. Matthew 18:21-35 Forgiveness is not about keeping score, it's about loosing count. The enemy's plan is to keep us bound up in our offense, anger, and rage so we cannot walk into the fullness of what God has for us. We gotta serve an eviction notice to the enemy's lie and release our pain and know that through Jesus we can receive healing from the inside out. Forgiveness is not acting like nothing happened, it's saying this pain will no longer control me.Things to know about unforgiveness: Unaddressed hurt can turn into hate. If we do not heal what hurt us, we will bleed on those that never cut us. Everything we do, doesn't only affect us but also everyone around us. Things yo know about forgiveness Forgiveness is not excusing the behavior but it's saying, that behavior won't destroy our heart anymore. Taking pain caused by people to God in prayer will always change our perspective. Our blessings come with how we handle forgiveness. Repentance leads to God's forgiveness in the kingdom. When we ask for forgiveness, Jesus gives it to us. We should able to forgive those that hurt us, as many times as Jesus would forgive us for our sins. If we have been forgiven, we should be able to forgive those who hurt us. Forgiveness allows us to heal from our pain. We have to be healed so those wounds can turn into scars and we can tell the word, “I know how it's like to be hurt, but I also know what its like to be healed.” This is how we break out of the prison of unforgiveness. Application: Have you found yourself stuck in the prison of unforgiveness because of the pain you've experienced? What wounds of you need to allow to heal, so you can walk in the fullness of what god has for you? Who do you need to forgive today to begin healing from the inside out?Prayer: Lord, I repent for harboring unforgiveness in my heart towards those that have hurt me. I realize that my unforgiveness has stopped you from doing all that you want to do in my life and through me. I forgive those who have hurt me and ask that you begin to heal me from that pain. Today, I chose to break out of the prison I have been stuck in. In Jesus name I pray, Amen

Welcome to episode 50! In line with Krista turning 50 next year, we are exploring divergent perspectives around big life experiences, such as aging, and the importance of these conversations in order to stay deeply connected and aligned as a couple. Using Peter Attia's work to guide our exploration of health, we share the conscious and subconscious perspectives that we hold onto as we age. Krista illustrates how being inspired by Will's commitment to health has revealed potential discrepancies about how we hold aging and what that can indicate for the future of our “We.” Unaddressed divergent perspectives can create undesired misalignments in relationships. Whether it's about aging, health, growth, or other significant life topics, if we are not proactively talking about how our views differ, we risk waking up one day realizing how far apart we are without knowing it. We explore what happens when values shift for partners over time and how to respond, and how explicit agreements can help keep us attuned and aligned over time. Plus, we share steps to help initiate a caring conversation with a partner around important areas of life where you recognize there might be differing perspectives. Our invitation for you this week is to discover how you and your partner relate to aging and entering the second half of your lives. Do you see it as a slow decline, or do you view aging as a process that brings more possibility and generativity? We want to hear from you. -What does codependency look like in active duty military members? -How are codependent traits and patterns beneficial in the military? -What are the consequences of unaddressed codependency in the military? And how can we begin to address them? Welcome to Episode 134! This week, I sat down with Austin Koestner, Associate Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and Retired Air Force Veteran with 17 years of service. Austin and I take a deep-dive into what codependency looks like in active duty and how many codependent traits/characteristic are beneficial while serving our country. We discuss self-sacrifice, people-pleasing, passive communication, etc. and how they truly have a function in military life. But how can codependency harm mission, morale, and the mental health of military members? We investigate these questions and conclude with initial steps Austin recommends to his active military clients to break codependent patterns. It's a must-listen! More on this week's guest: Austin Koestner, Associate MFT and Air Force Veteran, practices in Monrovia CA. He is working towards his AASECT licensure (American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists) and focuses on serving the LGBTQ population, artists and those who struggle to find meaning, own their identity, and fly their unique flag high without apology. https://openpathcollective.org/clinicians/austin-koestner/ https://www.facebook.com/aoktherapyla/ aoktherapyla@gmail.com Deets on the episode: We begin with hearing Austin's definition of codependency: an excessive reliance on others. He describes how codependents often lack their own self worth, have an inability to validate themselves, often meet the needs of others above their own, and are ever ready to please others. Austin opens up about codependency in his own life related to his time in the military and how he sought his father's approval after every medal, ribbon, and award he received. He felt like the baby bird in Dr. Seuss book, Are you My Mother? “I couldn't inherently validate myself.” It took him having a break-down to finally wake-up to how detrimental his codependency was. We shift focus to codependency in military life. Austin describes how codependency looks like having no sense of self, seeking validation from authority figures, self-sacrifice, people-pleasing, enmeshed boundaries, passivity to commands, and defining one's existence through others. We learn that many of these traits are necessary in order to succeed in the military but, to an extreme, they can be harmful. Austin shares about the impact of codependency on mission, morale, and the mental health of service members. While home in between tours, military members will maintain their codependent traits which leads to self-medicating, suicidal thoughts, angry outbursts, feeling embittered, avoidant behaviors, and self-sacrifice. Unaddressed codependency in military life is not sustainable. Austin's experience demonstrates how his own codependency “almost broke me.” So what can one do to make changes while in active duty? Austin suggests: seek help through base mental health squadron, stop comparing, validate yourself, talk to others, seek resources from local veteran centers (active duty members qualify for services!), and don't let fear stop you from seeking help. Thanks for coming on Austin! And thank you for listening, my dear listener! PLEASE: Rate. Review. Subscribe. Share. We need more ratings on Spotify! CastillejoGuest columnOn February 7 community members gathered at a town hall meeting in Poulsbo to support the Latino Parent Group's request to the North Kitsap School District (NKSD) to investigate ongoing allegations of discrimination against students. At least 125 people attended, including Kitsap ERACE Coalition, the NAACP, Suquamish Tribal Elder Barbara Lawrence, Kitsap SURJ, local business owners, teachers, Poulsbo City Council, Kitsap Public Health, Kitsap Black Student Union, Kitsap Strong, Living Life Leadership, Poulsbo for All, Kitsap Mental Health Services representatives, Central Kitsap school administrators, Bainbridge Island school administrators, Bainbridge Island's mayor and Cultural Council, and many Latino families. We are grateful we are not alone. And we express our gratitude to the North Kitsap School District for processing some 85 emailed complaints and hiring an investigator to explore and resolve these concerns. In Kitsap County, we must urgently consider practical solutions for addressing racism in education, its effects on our youth's learning and mental health. Unaddressed racial trauma in our schools creates barriers to education, work, and mental and physical health. Our youth — all youth — are searching for ways to cope with the effects of racism, the pandemic and violence. Therefore, we must also urgently pursue healing. The North Kitsap Latino community offers the school district community-based practical solutions for forming partnerships with immigrants of other national origins, African Americans, Asian American/Pacific Islanders, and Indigenous students. Working together, we give all of our children a more inclusive society. In the words of Cesar Chavez: “We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community. Our ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others, for their sakes and for our own.”The problems the Latino community face are deeply rooted in Kitsap County's historical racism, discrimination, and resulting harm to others who are perceived as “different.” Latino families share an important indigeneity connection with the Suquamish and Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribes, on whose ancestral lands we are guests. We are deeply grateful for these Tribes' work and advocacy to achieve justice and healing on behalf of, not only themselves, but also many other Kitsap County communities, including ours.As committed investors in our county economically and socially, we are also deeply committed stakeholders in the education of our children. Empowering our Latino community and other communities of Color, which bear the impact of racism and discrimination, builds bridges and creates movement toward truth, healing, and reconciliation. In a story published by the Kitsap Sun last November on this issue, NKSD stated, "Students and families should feel welcome and have a sense of belonging in our schools. When there are barriers to this, it is on us to have the courageous conversations to make meaningful changes."To advance these aspirational goals, we have asked the NK School District for two things: Equal access to education for English language learners and a culture of belonging that includes educating and providing learning on nondiscrimination. We have also provided specific practical solutions:1. An equity concern form to be provided in both English and Spanish. It may be completed by students, staff, parents or community members to report district or school equity concerns, as well as give positive feedback to the district.2. Critical communication such as student updates, school announcements, emergency messages, and counseling services will be made available in the top three languages other than English. Additionally, qualified interpreters will be made available for parents to communicate with administrators and educators at all school events.3. English-language acquisition and student supports:- English language learners will receive language support regularly, for a minimum 4 days a week, at 20 minutes a day. These students will be placed in classrooms with teachers trained in evidence-based teaching strategies while supported by administrators in their classroom needs.- The district ensures all students have access to understanding their class content and materials, in classes, such as English, math, science, music, and all electives. - English language learning will include support for speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.4. Professional development will be provided for administrators, teachers, para-professionals and any staff working with children and youth, covering these specific topics: the impact of racial trauma, understanding student needs, how to support students, mental health resources, equality, and equity.5. Paid community liaisons to provide direct support to families through advocacy, creating safety and belonging, and addressing mental health needs. Each of the following will have a liaison: African American, Asian American Pacific Islander, Latino and Indigenous communities.6. The Latino community will collaborate with the district and other community liaisons to gather and elevate the voice of their community needs to explore partnership opportunities. Then, within this partnership, they will form 2-, 3- and 5-year plans to ensure students of color and their parents are supported in their educational needs.7. An education equity council will review the equity concern forms, discuss solutions to equity concerns, implement solutions, advise the school administration and school board, and develop pathways to understanding on behalf of students and the district. These practical solutions undergird our children's education. Along with creating a sense of belonging, the solutions build important frameworks for trust among the district, the Latino community and other communities of color. When the Kitsap County Health Department declared racism a public health crisis in 2021, the county recognized our situation. Loneliness and a lack of belonging are common threads for children of all national origins and races in this post pandemic world. Our urgent desire for unity, coupled with practical solutions, supports this community in a world that is increasingly fragmented. Kitsap County students are asking our generation to provide safety, learning opportunities, and model inclusion, not racism. Let us follow their lead and work together. Danielle S. Attempting to reconcile with someone who is completely unaware of how they've wounded you is incredibly challenging. How do you offer forgiveness to someone who doesn't ask for it - or worse, continues to hurt you even after you forgive them? And what do you do when you still ache to be in relationship, even when it's unhealthy? It's not uncommon to wrestle with questions like these, especially in the context of your family of origin. In this episode, my friend Kiera joins me to share how she struggled to feel valuable and loved by her mom as she grew up. She unpacks how confusing it was for the same person to cause so much hurt and yet love her so well at the same time. Join us next week as Kiera shares how God led the path to a restored relationship against all odds. In this episode you'll learn: How her mom's focus on relationships with men meant Kiera's needs often came last Examples of how a lack of parental protection for Kiera allowed her to believe she was not wanted About the areas of life where Kiera's mom showed up really well for her daughter Why we sometimes have to grieve and release relationships we never got to have The realization that empowered Kiera to exercise boundaries for the first time with her mom Grab your copy of Lifted From Shame Order your eBook or print book on Amazon here. Convicting story from a BJJ friend of mine who was literally run over by a semi truck & the corresponding physical, mental & emotional consequences of that traumatic experience. It really demonstrates the importance of us to go back through each phase of our life & conduct an “emotional injuries audit” to make sure that we work through conscious & even subconscious emotional injuries that may still be negatively affecting us If you're ready to take your emotional growth to the next level, join the EQ Mafia at https://www.eqgangster.com/.
