Shat The Movies historically has been less than kind to Stephen King. So this years Spooktacular commissioner, Rob T, challenged us to rewind to the Master of Horror's first work: "Carrie." Aside from its massive pop-culture impact, this 1976 hit showcased Sissy Spacek's incredible acting skill and Brian De Palma's directorial prowess. "Carrie" also introduced the Shat Crew to Googly-Eyed Jesus, exercise detention and shockingly effective use of slow-motion while leading us to ask whether the movie poster gave away too much. Is Stephen King the Hoobastank of authors? How clearly can a person speak while blowing John Travolta? And which utensils are appropriate for killing your mom? Wild prospect David Spacek previews the Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase
Welcome to Director Watch! On this AwardsWatch podcast, co-hosts Ryan McQuade and Jay Ledbetter attempt to breakdown, analyze, and ultimately, get inside the mind of some of cinema's greatest auteurs. In doing so, they will look at their filmographies, explore what drives them artistically and what makes their decision making process so fascinating. Add in a few silly tangents and a fun game at the end of the episode and you've got yourself a podcast we truly hope you love. On episode 59 of the Director Watch Podcast, the boys are joined by AwardsWatch contributor Dan Bayer to discuss the first film in their Terrence Malick series, Badlands (1973). With the summer of Tony Scott in the rearview mirror, the newest Director Watch takes a look at one of the most celebrated, unique, creative, innovative, and important American directors of all time, Terrence Malick. Within Malick's filmography lies questions about nature, spirituality, creativity, violence, conflicting internal and external human emotion, and the longing for purpose in life. He is not only the perfect director to explore for a series, but he also happens to be Jay Ledbetter's favorite director, setting the expectations for this director deep dive at higher levels than usual. With Malick's first film, Badlands, the director took his first crack at tapping into the soul of the American culture he grew up in with a tale about a two young lovers who go on a killing spree in the summer of 1959. While it may seem as the most straight forward of Malick's narrative feature film, Badlands is an engrossing examination of the past that reflects the unstable, violent world we create amongst the love and beauty that surrounds us. Ryan, Jay, and Dan discuss their thoughts on the film, what they think of Malick overall, Sheen and Spacek's incredible performances, the exquisite, detailed work of production designer Jack Fisk, the narration sprinkled throughout the film, the loss of innocence between each of the main character and how that effects their overall love for one another, and the final fifteen minutes of the movie, which features one hell of a car chase sequence. A good start to a promising new series that is lengthy, but filled with tons of insightful detail (mostly to make sure the guys attempt to sound like they are smart when talking about the thematically heavy films of Terrence Malick). You can listen to the Director Watch Podcast wherever you stream podcasts, from iTunes, iHeartRadio, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Spotify, Audible, Amazon Music and more. This podcast runs 2h25m. The guys will be back next week to continue their series on the films of Terrence Malick with a review of his next film, Days of Heaven. You can rent it via iTunes and Amazon Prime rental in preparation for the next episode of Director Watch. Till then, let's get into it. Music: MUSICALIFE, from Pond5 (intro) and “B-3” from BoxCat Games Nameless: The Hackers RPG Soundtrack (outro).

This week, the boys are joined by Devon from the 'Horrorble Podcast' who are pretty much responsible for this podcasts existence. So as you can imagine, Paul is a little more excitable than normal.Directed by Brian De Palma and released in 1976, "Carrie" is a seminal horror film based on Stephen King's debut novel of the same name. The story centers on Carrie White, a shy and introverted teenage girl who discovers she has telekinetic powers. Bullied at school and abused by her religiously fanatic mother, Carrie's powers manifest in increasingly destructive ways, culminating in a night of terror at her high school prom. Sissy Spacek delivers a haunting and memorable performance as Carrie, capturing both her vulnerability and the terrifying intensity of her supernatural abilities. The film masterfully explores themes of isolation, revenge, and the consequences of unchecked cruelty, resonating with audiences and critics alike. "Carrie" is renowned for its iconic prom scene, which has become one of the most memorable moments in horror cinema. De Palma's direction, coupled with Spacek's mesmerizing performance, creates a sense of mounting tension that erupts in a spectacular display of chaos and tragedy. The film's themes of adolescent angst and the abuse of power remain relevant, ensuring its enduring legacy in the horror genre. "Carrie" has left an indelible mark on popular culture and continues to captivate audiences with its powerful storytelling and unforgettable imagery, solidifying its status as a classic of horror cinema. This one is Kate's fault. All on her.She picked this "film" weeks ago. We decided it should be a replacement-level choice, something we would only review if there was nothing else we could decide on that week. This was that week. We will not be kind."Trading Mom" stars Academy Award Winner (and Six-Time Nominee) Sissy Spacek, as the titular Mom, as well as three other moms. Those moms may or may not actually exist. It's confusing. This is a movie that Ms. Spacek would probably like to forget, and if not, she should. Also starring Anna Chlumsky from "My Girl" and more recently, "VEEP", as well as Andre The Giant, in his final role. An ignominious end, to be sure. The movie was so terrible that poor test screenings caused it to be released a full SIXTEEN MONTHS after his death. Will we decide to GET THE FLICK OUTTA HERE? Hey Party Crashers, Levelers and Trailblazers i think you're gonna enjoy this episode, especially if you were glued to your televisions, phones and computers awaiting the returns of the August 2nd vote on the amendment which would have essentially ended constitutional protections for women and girls seeking an abortion. Much has been discussed nationally about Kansas and what this means for our socio-political climate moving forward but very few has been done from the perspective of actual Kansans. In this episode of Level Set, I am talking with Tanya Spacek who served as a poll worker in Kansas the day of the election. She takes us into what it was like that day and then we go so much deeper into conversations about the power of collective action, civic engagement and the impact of climate change on communities in Western Kansans. You'll dig this one. Thank you for being on the level with us. Jerry --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jerry-jones5/message

Through conversations with female business owners, we explore the benefits of time spent outside to maintain life balance. The time outside and activity may differ in each conversation, but we delve into the subject to find the commonality that drives us all. Andrea is a Jungian Life Coach and founder of InVision Feminine Leadership. Most simply, I believe in magic. Not just that it exists, but that life itself - the body, spirit, this magnificent planet, the universe - is magic, and we are the magicians. Ancient civilizations called it alchemy, the ability to transform base metals into illustrious gold. What isn't talked about as much is that alchemy applies to human consciousness in the same way. Our conscious minds have the power to drag us down with the weight of lead, or to illuminate our souls with the brilliance of a diamond. When we truly understand that the world is coming OUT of us, not the other way around, life becomes magical. We become the creators. And we get to create a wild masterpiece with our lives. Yoga and conscious movement helps to unlock and mobilize the potential energy; Meditation and breathwork serve to direct it; Life Coaching helps to illuminate hidden potential. and Women's Leadership retreats synthesize mind, body, heart, and purpose through the power of Sangha (spiritual community). My joy is to weave the breath, body, and consciousness together to create something new - gold where there was lead, vitality where there was stagnation, and possibility where there was limitation.
Caitlin is joined by Elizabeth to discuss the most recognized horror movie featuring monstrous menstruation: Carrie.

Raphael Saadiq is a well schooled soul composer. As much as he's an auteur, he's a curator whose vision is culled from the classics, with ears and eyes focused on the way ahead. In a class of groove savants like Prince, Erykah Badu, and Bilal, Saadiq's stamp on Neo-Soul is bold, brilliant, beautiful, and touching–like his latest, Jimmy Lee. He chimes in with us to discuss the Jimmy Lee we all know and are. "What is Neo-Soul?" someone asked us recently. That's a show in itself, more like one of those epics with an intermission. For the sake of time we rattled off a few choice cuts from this conscience driven fusion of funk, electronica, jazz, Afro beat and the proverbial kitchen sink. On cue: Freestyle Fellowship, 4Hero, Mos Def, Hiatus Kaiyote, Bilal, J Dilla, Spacek, Viktor Duplaix, plus plus plus. Nathan and Tyler spring a little surprise on Julian. (Apparently everyone wants Nicola Six.) And the guys discuss The Old Man and the Gun and Bad Times at the El Royale. Ironically, good times are had by all.
In episode fifty-three of movies imo., Ben, Brandon, and Daniel yell over each other about David Lowery's THE OLD MAN & THE GUN before jumping into a sassy Sissy Spacek retrospective with discussions around IN THE BEDROOM, COAL MINER'S DAUGHTER, 3 WOMEN, CARRIE, and BADLANDS. Ben gets a thrill from watching Sissy think, Daniel struggles to keep the train on the tracks after Spacek enthusiasm derails into Spacek ecstasy, and Brandon loves nothing more than the way Sissy Spacek describes the passage of time.
