What actually sets you apart in a world where AI can do more and more of your job? In this episode, Marc and Ben are joined by Hilary Gridley—Head of Core Product at WHOOP and instructor of the Maven course How to Be a Supermanager with AI—to unpack how great product leaders can use AI to magnify their strengths instead of dulling them.Hilary breaks down her approach to time allocation, sharing how she dissects messy, ambiguous work into its component parts and uses AI as a thinking partner—not a crutch. They explore how to identify high-leverage tasks, when investing time is essential for clarity, and why doing something the hard way is sometimes the point. The conversation also touches on how PMs can design their roles around their superpowers, what good taste really means in product, and how managers can help their team grow by doubling down on what makes them exceptional. If you're trying to become more intentional with how you spend your time, use AI more thoughtfully, or lead a team of PMs in this new era—this episode is for you.All episodes of the podcast are also available on Spotify, Apple and YouTube.New to the pod? The Founder of Nice N' Spiky Comedy Clara Heimerdinger recounts her journey from working at the BBC as a Business and Production Manager to running her own comedy business. Having been involved in running comedy nights as a side hustle while progressing her career at the BBC, Clara gave it all up to start Nice N' Spiky in 2019. A new business was born bringing together comedians, agents, clubs and venues. Over nearly six years, Clara has worked hard to grow her business, despite the best efforts of the pandemic to disrupt her progress. Discover how she pivoted, and came through it stronger. Our discussion covers a wide range of issues, from how to monitor acts when you have four performing in different venues in one night. We explore the disparity between male and female comedians on the circuit, delving into the reasons why men still outnumber women three to one. In celebration of her efforts, Clara entered the Best Businesswomen Awards in 2024 and won a Silver Award. She tells us why she got involved, and the joy of attending the gala final with her mother. For anyone struggling to come to terms with running a business, this is a great episode to understand you're not alone. Clara explains how she learns on the job, outsourcing where she can afford to, doing it herself when necessary. You'll also learn the charming reason why Clara named her business Nice N' Spiky. It may not be what you think! This is a great episode for anyone interested in the comedy circuit, but also for those considering turning a side-hustle into a fully fledged business. {2:08} Why Clara quit the BBC to start Nice N' Spiky. {4:37} How the business generates revenue. {6:17} Why Nice N' Spiky? {7:15} The challenges Clara has faced along the way. {10:41} Delivering live events while building a team. {13:00} Choosing which comedians to work with. {16:20} The disparity between male and female comdians. {18:18} Do women experience nerves more than men? {20:54} Why Clara entered the Best Businesswomen Awards. {23:15} Why bringing your Mum to the gala final is so special. {25:18} Making the leap from side hustle to full-time business. {28:15} Learning to run the business. {29:11} Clara's upcoming events. In this episode we reflect (broadly!) on the concept of having "spiky profiles". This relates to us having aptitudes in some areas and limitations in others, usually where the differences are more pronounced than might be expected in the general population. As usual, we record without a plan / topic in mind and so there are lots of tangents. We think the authenticity of how we speak in addition to what we say also further demonstrates some of the conundrums of being "spiky" in this way. We talk about some aspects of our educational histories, noting the unidentified autism and some of the ways in which we have reframed our ways of being nowadays in light of our ongoing personal identification journeys. Please do feel free to email us at autisticlicence@gmail.com if you have any feedback you would like to share. Thank-you so much for being with us and all your support. Like many agricultural products, agaves have developed a complex relationship with humans over millennia. Some agaves were chosen to make rope, others to extract pulque and maybe the luckiest of them all to create mezcal. But there've been many other more subtle ways in which people have chosen their favorite agaves to deal with. In this conversation with Fabio Raya we talk about the agaves that were favored in Brazil versus those that we decided to love in Mexico.
Matt Lowry, LPP and Dr. Angela Lauria discuss:* Which came first: the autistic or the neurotypical? Are Autism and ADHD the same thing? Do neurotypicals have a disorder of pruning? * How ‘X-Men' addresses discrimination, social justice, and provides representation for marginalized groups.* The two canonically autistic X-Men and several autistic-coded ones too! Plus, some of the errors allistics make when they try to write autistic characters.* Spiky profiles, code-switching, and the price (and privilege) of masking.* Matt's no-holds-barred honest opinion of ABA for autism.* Hans Asperger, his legacy, and real-life mandatory autism registrations in at least eight U.S. states. * And, are bleach enemas a “cure” for autism? (Hint: NO!)Quotes from this episode:“In X-men, Mystique, the shape changer, can turn into human looking people and they ask her, ‘You can be anyone you want. Why do you do this?' And she said, ‘Well just because I can be anyone I want, doesn't mean I should have to. You should be able to be yourself you should be able to be free to be the real authentic you and not mask.' And, she literally masks all the time for survival, and that is exhausting.”“First stone tools—autistic people. First iron bridges—autistic people. Calculus—autistic people, like everything. We are not a new phenomenon.”“So basically we hoard our synapses like we hoard our collectibles.”“We are synapse hoarders. And this is why our brains process up to 42% more information at rest than neurotypical people.”“If you like weird, dark ‘Glee,' you're going to love this.”Which X-Men superpower would you use to make the world safer for autistics? Welcome back, Mamas."I love my children deeply and ferociously. I would choose them again. I was born to be their mother. And still, it is hard. And fraught with the pains of being human, of living in a world with physical and energetic limitations." This was the start of the social media post by the phenomenal Leonie Dawson that spurred this interview... and sparked one of the most honest and moving conversations about motherhood, forgiveness, and acceptance. As an entrepreneur, Leonie has generated $14 million in revenue - working just 10 hours a week. Her books have sold around the globe, and she is beacon of honesty in a world that often tries to sell us a perfect picture of success. But Leonie is also a mama who deeply struggled with the early years of motherhood, and through her own deep healing of her family line, and the diagnosis of both Auticism and ADHD, has finally been able to accept herself as a mother - in all the spiky ugly bits. Buckle up, because we've got a need to go really fast in various vehicles. Spiky car? Sounds like fun. Space ship that shoots lasers? Sign me up. Cool cop car? Eh... maybe not that one. We're starting the show talking about Battle Cars which is another Mode 7 racing game where you drive around and try to use weapons to knock the other cars off the road. It's also very Mad Max inspired. Find out if we think this game is off to the races, or if it's just a pile of scrap. Then we're chatting about Super Chase HQ, a game in which you get in your car and take off after criminals. Yup, you're playing a cop so you know Chase is going to have a few things to say about that. And no, he's not happy that this game has his name in the title. Finally, we're talking about Super Nova, which is another entry in the Darius series which strangely left the "Darius" part out of the title. Will this game rise to the heights of Darius Twin before it? Listen and find out. All of this, and a Taito deep dive on today's episode of SNEScapades.
