Mike Flanagan + Stephen King: combinació guanyadora! Primer dels programes en què analitzarem les darreres adaptacions del mestre del terror que han arribat al cinema i a la televisió. Comencem amb The Life of Chuck. In the 1993 Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Interface," Geordi La Forge uses experimental technology to remotely explore a stranded starship and is confronted by a deeply personal mystery. Was the image of his mother real, or something else entirely? This week, returning guest Dr. David Williams joins Larry to explore the real-world science behind this episode. Using a vintage press summary as our entry point, they discuss how TNG anticipated advances in virtual interfaces and robotics: technologies that now drive space exploration through probes, planetary rovers, and immersive control systems. From the Voyager missions to Mars rovers and the growing role of augmented reality in mission planning, Star Trek's tech continues to align with our scientific future. Along the way, Dave and Larry reflect on the emotional themes of "Interface," and how fiction about space helps us prepare for its most human dimensions.
In this episode of Holodeck Divas we discuss the Star Trek - The Next Generation episode "Pen Pals" (s2e15). On this week's episode of WeeklyTrek, TrekCore's news podcast, host Alex Perry is joined by legendary Star Trek designer Doug Drexler for a supplemental interview special. Doug Drexler is one of Star Trek's true renaissance figures — an Oscar, Emmy, and BAFTA-winning artist whose career has spanned makeup, design, illustration, and visual effects across nearly every corner of the Star Trek universe. A lifelong fan who once co-owned New York's famed Federation Trading Post before crossing over to work on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise, and multiple feature films, Drexler has left his creative fingerprints on everything from the NX-01 to the 26th-century Enterprise-J. In this interview, he joins WeeklyTrek to discuss the Kickstarter for Trek Star: The Doug Drexler Documentary that aims to tell the story of his life and career. In the interview, we reflect on Doug's journey from fan to creator, the realities of working inside the thing you love, and what fans rarely see about the collaborative artistry that brings Star Trek to life. *** Do you have a wish or theory you'd like to share on the show? TRIGGER WARNING: We are talking about abusive parents in this episode, which Stef and Chris may make a bunch of dark jokes about (it's a defense mechanism). Is suffering from "daddy issues" the same thing as a Sci-Fi conundrum? Let's fine out! In this episode of Holodeck Divas we discuss the Star Trek - The Next Generation episode "The Icarus Factor" (s2e14). We meet William Riker's Dad, and things go sideways very fast, but Dr. Pulaski seems to be in love with him. WHAT?! At least there's an enjoyable Worf-related B plot. Listen to hear what Stef and Chris have to say about this episode.
We continue our wedding series with Star Trek: The Next Generation's "Haven" -- in which Deanna Troi's arranged marriage is interrupted by the arrival of an AIDS allegory. It's … rough. It's rough. Note: Liz says two completely inaccurate things with absolute confidence: first she claims that Wyatt is the only guest star with a costume change (false, that is Lwaxana) and then she claims that he's wearing grey in the holodeck scene (he is wearing burgundy). And unfortunately these were LOAD-BEARING INACCURACIES that couldn't easily be edited out. Never trust a podcaster. "I don't know who wrote this, but I cannot support them." We know early TNG loved a Special Boy, but why is Wyatt Miller the protagonist of this episode? Is Lwaxana Troi a reliable source of information on Betazoid culture and custom? "Genetic bonding" is a fancy word for "child betrothal" and also sounds kiiiiiiiinda sketchy? Were Ian Troi and the Millers attempting to pull some sort of eugenics shenanigans? (Streaming movie about Michelle Yeoh taking out Ian Troi, co-starring Jess Bush as young Lwaxana, when?) Liz is not a fan of Lwaxana and takes issue with the current "if you don't like Lwaxana Troi, you're a misogynist" discourse "I would like to have a dinner party with Lwaxana Troi and Cersei Lannister." Is Mon Mothma the anti-Lwaxana Troi? Either way, she's joining Lwaxana and Cersei for cocktails

In our latest tribute, Janet, John, (and Pen) celebrate the life and career of the actor who played one of the most iconic villians in horror film history... Tony Todd! Desperately desiring to be an actor since he was a little boy, this New England native went from working at the Artisits Collective as a teen to joining the Eugene O'Neill Actors Institute to hone his acting skills. At 28, this brilliant character actor landed in New York City and in two weeks was working on stage in equity shows: playing in Shakespeare's greats or the latest new plays. He was later discovered by Oliver Stone and switched to a life of film, soon becoming a beloved member of Star-Trek and a big star from one of the scariest horror remakes ever. His amazing skills and complex character work in Candyman (1992) would take him on 30-year-old journey with 4 spectacular sequels. He is also well know for his roles in other fantastic films, video games, and shows such as Night of the Living Dead (1990), the Final Destination series (2000-2025), Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009), Star-Trek: The Next Generation (1990-1991), The Flash (2014-2023), and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (2024). Small spoiler for this episode: This wasn't our favorite episode but we're told we are very entertaining when we don't like a episode. In this episode of Holodeck Divas we discuss another Maurice Hurley written episode of Star Trek - The Next Generation, Time Squared (s2e13). Captain Picard suddenly has a totally different personality, and Riker can't make a omelett (which has nothing to do with the rest of the story). Join us as we "celebrate" this episode of TNG.
This week, the crew beams into one of the most beloved Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes… and Joe is not having it. While the rest of the galaxy clutches their Kleenex and calls it a masterpiece, Joe boldly goes where few fans dare: calling The Inner Light overrated! Is it a touching meditation on life and legacy, or just a glorified flute recital with a side of dream logic?Join Joe, Jason, and the gang as they dissect Picard's alternate life as Kamin, debate the emotional weight versus narrative convenience, and ask the hard question: does this episode really deserve its pedestal, or is it just Trek's artsy detour that gets more credit than it earns?Spoiler alert: Joe's flute is out of tune, and he's not afraid to play it.
We're kicking off this year's Halloween Sci-Fi Series with a very spooky and creepy episode....Star Trek The Next Generation's "Genesis". In this episode of Trekking Through Time and Space... Hoai-Tran and Jacob have the biggest disagreement in the history of the podcast as they discuss "The Perfect Mate" on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Things are a lot more smooth with "The Magician's Apprentice" over on Doctor Who, which is a banger through and through. The first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation was famously turbulent, but behind the scenes, it was also a hive of creative experimentation and open doors for new voices. This week, we welcome veteran writer/producer Cash Edwards, whose original story pitch “The True One” caught the attention of Gene Roddenberry, D.C. Fontana, and his longtime friend, producer Herb Wright. Though the script wasn't produced, it sparked genuine enthusiasm, and Herb's memo to Gene is our document of the week. Cash joins Larry to share memories from TNG's earliest days: working closely with the producers, meeting the cast, and witnessing the scramble for scripts that defined Season One. He also reveals some, let's say colorful, ideas he contributed to the development of the Ferengi's first appearance (laser bolos, anyone? leech grenades?). It's a window into a time when Star Trek was still figuring itself out and welcoming new creatives into the mix who helped shape the journey.
What happens when members of the Enterprise are trapped in a second rate novel that doesn't make any sense? In this episode of Holodeck Divas we discuss the Star Trek - The Next Generation episode "The Royale" (s2e12). The Enterprise discovers that a group of Klingons found something strange near a planet that has pee storms, and it turns out it is an artifact from the 21st century. Listen to this episode to hear what Stef and Chris have to say!

Malcolm McDowell joins cast members from the 1960s television show Star Trek and the 1987 sequel series The Next Generation, including William Shatner and Patrick Stewart. In the film, Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise-D joins forces with Captain James T. Kirk to stop the villain Tolian Soran from destroying a planetary system in his attempt to return to an extra-dimensional realm known as the Nexus. Generations was conceived as a transition from the original cast of the Star Trek films to the cast of The Next Generation. After developing several film ideas concurrently, the producers chose a script written by Ronald D. Moore and Brannon Braga. Production began while the final season of the television series was being made. The director was David Carson, who previously directed episodes of the television series; photography was by franchise newcomer John A. Alonzo. Filming took place on the Paramount Studios lots, and on location in Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada, and Lone Pine, California. The film's climax was revised and reshot following poor reception from test audiences. The film uses a mix of traditional optical effects alongside computer-generated imagery and was scored by regular Star Trek composer Dennis McCarthy. Star Trek Generations was released in the United States on November 18, 1994. Paramount promoted the film with merchandising tie-ins, including toys, books, games, and a website—a first for a major motion picture. The film opened at the top of the United States box office in its first week of release and grossed a total of $118 million worldwide. Critical reception was mixed, with critics divided on the film's characters and comprehensibility to a casual viewer. Sisko is out of commission, Kira finally learns how to treat him like a regular friend and not with all the reverence due the Emissary (had she been doing that?), Worf plays out the ol' "person suddenly in command who needs to learn how to be command" trope, and Bashir and Dax get cracking on retconning Bashir. But don't forget about Odo! Actually, you probably can except for one scene.[Episode discussion begins around 1:23 - for a whopping 2:45 for a regular episode! Mostly nonsense.]
Dax decides between a hook-up with the Borg Queen (sorta) or exile. Is resistance futile? And Matt and Andy ask (Seinfeld voice) "WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH TRILLS?"[Episode discussion begins around 49:00]
