Clyde Johnston is a golf course architecture and designer based out of Hilton Head Island, SC. Today's conversation is a continuation of Bill's, most recent chapter of his life with the completion of his graduate degree. Bill will now be working with Northrop Grumman and it's NASA partnership for the James Webb space telescope. Bill Waterstreet returns to the podcast, as he wraps up his graduate degree from the University of Michigan. Bill enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, starting his service in January 2011. When deployed to Afghanistan in 2013 and 2014, he assists army units in their information operation capacities. He was honorably discharged in January of 2015 at the rank of Sergeant. Following his service, Bill began attending the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in the fall of 2015. There he majored in mechanical engineering and minor in electrical engineering. After graduate his bachelor's degree, he continued at Michigan and achieved his master's degrees in mechanical engineering with a focus on controls and completed the degree in April 2020. Scientists in developing nations plan to step up research into dimming sunshine to curb climate change, hoping to judge if a man-made chemical sunshade would be less risky than a harmful rise in global temperatures. Twelve scholars, from countries including Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Ethiopia, India, Jamaica and Thailand, wrote in the journal Nature on Wednesday that the poor were most vulnerable to global warming and should be more involved. These countries are starting to research “solar geo-engineering”, which would mimic big volcanic eruptions that can cool the Earth by masking the sun with a veil of ash. Often times while using my iPad on location, direct sunlight makes it next to impossible to see my screen clearly. This is especially troublesome when using my iPad as a wireless field monitor. Short of hiding under a swath of black Duvetyne, I have yet to find a great solution for keeping the sun off my screen. Until now…

On this week's Cityscape, we’ll look back at the history of the city’s public swimming pools -- a history that involves charges of racism. We'll also visit Embee Sunshade Company in Brooklyn.
