Patrick valued Paul's opinion and as such sidelined the popularity garnered from the tape. After struggling with his musical identity for the next seven years , it was Patrick's son's mother, who in 2003, suggested that he record another Stir it up volume as this was who he Truly was . Heeding her advice Patrick came up with volume 4 “The Crucifixion of the Ghetto”. This was a blend of humor and social awareness that employed a balance of hardcore street smarts and undiluted intellect by collaborating the imitation of a foul mouthed Mutabaruka and a modified version of Ian Boyne; these two voices would represent both sides of the social divide. Patrick would again ask Paul to play famous Demus and join him as a duo he would call Twin of Twins. Though Patrick is the writer of the two ,his brother's input and opinion is vital to his creative process as paul would overtime grow more comfortable with this art.

When you talk about suceess and deep conviction you have to talk about a dub poet by the name of Yasus Afari. Born "John Sinclair" in a small village in the parish of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, where life was hard and every day survival was a struggle. His mother was his only inspiration after his bigger brother left home to join the Police Force. He always mentioned how is mother used to pray and encouraged him to work hard so that they could lead a better life. He passed his common Entrance exam and went off to St. Elizabeth Technical High School. He did excell and was a major influence on his peer group. After STETHS he went on to work with the Jamaica Telephone company as a repair Technician but soon find out that there was more to life than climbing telephone poles. He won a scholarship to the College of Arts Science and Technology where a whole new world open up. At college he majored in telecommunications and was a revolutionist against how the system was administered. He participated in all aspect of student life and was a role model for all the students in that era. He was elected Vice president of the Student Council but was denied to serve because of his positive and anti comformative values. This was a major awakening for him and he did some soul searching and that is when he knew he had the calling to do good for the masses. He vowed that he will fight the injustices of the society and bring about conciousness to all the people that would listen to what he has to say. The social and political climate during this time was rough. Maurice Bishop got killed in Genada, Bob had just died, and so much was happening in the political arena that most youths were looking for a concious vibe. Yasus began doing concerts at the local students union, The University of the West Indies at Mona, The Nursing School and Teachers Colleges. The response was like a shock wave and everyone was taking about Toni Taam as he was fondly called then. He did a several shows with then up coming stars as well as established Artistes. His first song was realeased in 1986 during this time Yasus went into a period of meditation and isolation while writing consistently. Yasus began to emerge and by joining partnership with other up coming artist he began to see a light at the end of the tunnel. He met up with Garnet Silk, who was also is childhood friend, and they began to work on a few songs together. On one of his birthday's he was hanging out with Garnet and he wrote the first line of "I can see clearly". Garnet went on to finish the song and also wrote "I saw Zion........." All this led to a tighter relationship with Silk that gave him the inspiration to write "Nothing can divide............" Yasus and Garnet still have unproduced songs laid out on tracks, to be published when the time is right. Things started to look up and Yasus teamed up with Maxi Priest to write "Work" which appeared on his "Dance Hall Baptism" (Senya-Cum/Ras Records). Mental Assasin was done on Tappa Zuki label. He has since then recorded with a whole host of musicians including Everton Blender, Black Uhuru, General Degree, Tony Rebel and more who he has also produced. The achievements go far and wide and he was awarded Dub Poet of the year in 1993 in a controversial decision. At the ceremony the award was given to the well known Mutabaruka. Muta refused to accept this award and made it explictly clear that it should be given to Yasus. Yasus went on to win more awards and was also honored in Chiago by Martin International for Dub Poeb of the year in 1994 and Yasus was honored many times by the Jamaican Music Federation. The list of recognition goes on and Yasus always says it is a great honor to recognized for all his work. Touring with Black Uhuru, Yasus was creating a cultural revolution on a world-wide basis, starting in the US covering 26 States and the Pacific Islands. He was also in Brazil where the fans open heartedly responed to his message. #realtalkianandeian --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ianandeian/message

On the 9th episode of The-Bald-Head-N-The-Dread Podcast, we sat with the revolutionary Poet/Radio Presenter Mutabaruka, to discuss various topics that the average mind would be scared to discuss.Throughout the reasoning, Mutabaruka emphasized on the importance of black liberation in a movement like Rastafari, as Rastafari contributed to the mental alleviation of many youths throughout the African diaspora and allowed them to break free from the claws of Rome. Through Rastafari, the connection between Africans at home and abroad has been tightened, yet Muta warns that we should be careful not to replace the concept of a white Jesus with black Jesus. He explains that such a thought is still detrimental to the mind and doesn't completely eradicate the ways of the oppressors from our actions. As African people, we need to evolve and bypass the configuration of the Bible which was compiled to satisfy the needs of the oppressor. Mutabaruka further explains that eating ital is way beyond just being health conscious, but more related to correspondence with the moral compass. A perfect example of that is the Methane gas that is emitted into the atmosphere every time an animal is killed. He also highlighted the fact that humans practice double standards, as they proclaim to love animals yet eat them at the same time.

Brown explained that Tosh had recently returned from a business trip to the United States where he was expecting to be paid in US dollars. Lobban seemed to have overheard bits of telephone conversation prior to Tosh's visit to the US and had, it seemed, planned the robbery. Tosh responded to Lobban that he had no money. Lobban then complained that Tosh was giving his woman “authority over we” and that she, Marlene, was responsible for the inability of Tosh “to maintain we”. Brown heard Lobban instruct the two men who accompanied him to disarm Tosh, as “he was a Black Belt”, whereupon Tosh was frisked and gunbutted; he seemed unconscious. When she objected to the remarks made by Lobban, witness testified that Lobban threatened to kick Tosh, who was lying there helpless on the floor.Just about then, witness recalled, there was a knock at the door. One of the gunmen opened the door. Free I and his wife were ushered in. They too, were ordered to lie face down on the floor. Free I objected and a gun was jammed into his side. He obeyed. They were all stripped of their jewellery and other personal effects. What followed after was a barrage of shots. Tosh, Free I and Wilton Brown was killed instantly.Marlene Brown was shot in the head but lived. When the men were about to leave, one of them observed: “She no dead!” He was about to turn back, but Lobban commanded: “Come! She dead a'ready.” Michael Robinson, another survivor, gave evidence pretty much similar to that of Marlene Brown. The widow of Jeff Dixon, o/c Free I, knew none of the gunmen, including Lobban. She never attended an identification parade.http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/news/The-night-Peter-Tosh-was-killed

While many are familiar with the call for ‘One Love’ from the music of Bob Marley they more than likely know little about the tradition that this message is rooted in. In Rastafari and the Arts: An Introduction (Routledge, 2015), Darren Middleton, Professor of Religion at Texas Christian University, introduces his readers to Rastafari through the creative expressions of its members in literature, art, film, and music. He traces the development of the tradition in Jamaica and abroad, including Ghana, Britain, and Japan, as well as highlighting key narrative, doctrinal, social, and ethical teachings. In our conversation we discussed Haile Selassie, Rastafari and Gender, the literary tradition of insiders and outsiders, the notion of Babylon, the great masters of dub poetry, including Mutabaruka and Benjamin Zephaniah, documentary film, the role of reggae and Rastafari in Japanese culture, ethnographic work in Ghana, British Rastas, Bob Marley, and the commodification of Rastafari. I long ago came to the realization that there is no form of music that I don't like. There are artists (Rhianna) and songs (Brown-Eyed Girl) that, I quite frankly can't stand and would love to rid the world of. There are genres of music (Turkish chant, Yiddish folk, American Country) that I just don't "get" because they really don't speak to me and probably weren't meant to. It's not that I hate this music, it may annoy me at times, particularly when I'm in the mood for something else, but otherwise I have no real strong feelings about it whatsoever ... as a genre of music. I think my goal for the next few years is going to be to learn to love those few remaining genres of music. I've found all it takes is a little education. For example, being a middle-aged, middle-American, suburban dweller, until recently I had never been a really big fan of reggae. I was thoroughly convinced that there were only one recycled reggae song called "I Shot the Buffalo Soldier and Stood Up for My Rights." Surprisingly, it only took one hour listening to a Reggae show on a community radio station out of North Yorkshire, UK where a very knowledgeable and passionate disc jockey (Clearchannel take note) opened my eyes to the fact that reggae as a genre is as widespread and diverse as rock and roll, and some of it was absolutely killer. This led to a three week immersion through every list of reggae songs and artists I could find, discovering the likes of The Skatalites, Ijahman Levi, Buju Banton, U-Roy, Mutabaruka and a slew of others. If you have never immersed yourself in an unfamiliar musical genre with the help of a an expert guide in this manner, I highly recommed it. This week's guests, Indyca, are one of our few local "reggae-ish" groups. As with many great Indiana artists, their particular flavor of the genre is a musical crossroads, combining the loose backbeat of reggae and infuse it with elements of jam band, rock, dubstep, and even heavy metal at times. This diverse musical background, while seeming somewhat incongruous at first is brought together by a group of musicians who are equally versed in the technical side of their craft, but still have an excellent ear and open mind for what what works, what doesn't work, and how to push the edges of experimentation just a little in order to create something new and distinctly their own. Definitely looking forward to hearing how this translates in a studio environment. Indyca can be found here: | | All of this evening's tracks were recorded live at by Malcolm Johnson and can be obtained on their . Bassist Bryan Dougherty also plays in ... which is completely different. For people who aspire to be know-it-alls when it comes to music, I found this article which goes in to depth on "." It also turned me on to a lot of artists I didn't know. Indyca is proudly sponsored by and ... and loosely associated with ... not that we in any way condone mixing those three things. For those not overly knowledgeable about "the culture" ... I found this article which discuses "." Who says my show isn't educational?

The Entertainment Celebrity Link.Dub poetry is a form of performance poetry of West Indian origin, which evolved out of dub music consisting of spoken word over reggae rhythms in Jamaica in the 1970s. Unlike dee jaying (also known as toasting), which also features the use of the spoken word, the dub poet's performance is normally prepared, rather than the extemporized chat of the dancehall dee jay. In musical setting, the dub poet usually appears on stage with a band performing music specifically written to accompany each poem, rather than simply perform over the top of dub plates, or riddims, in the dancehall fashion. Musicality is built into dub poems, yet, dub poets generally perform without backing music, delivering chanted speech with pronounced rhythmic accentuation and dramatic stylization of gesture. Sometimes dub music effects, e.g. echo, reverb, are dubbed spontaneously by a poet into live versions of a poem. Many dub poets also employ call-and-response devices to Anita Stewart, original member of Jamaica's Poets In Unity     Tommy Ricketts, original member of Jamaica's Poet's In Unity     Tomlin Ellis, original member of Jamaica's Poet's In Unity     Shaka Bantuta, original member of Jamaica's Poet's In Unity     Lillian Allen,Jean "Binta" Breeze,Afua Cooper,Mighty Jah-J! the Furious George AKA George Paul Wielgus, Linton Kwesi Johnson,Yasus Afari,Ahdri Zhina Mandiela,Michael Bailey "Mbala",Mutabaruka, Oku Onuora,Royal African Soldiers, Mikey Smith, Benjamin Zephaniah,D'bi Young, No-Maddz ...(Shepherd, Creary, Gordon and Peart). Cole was born in Jamaica in 1945 and nicknamed "Stranger" by his family, as they considered that he didn't resemble any member of his kin. Cole was initially successful as a songwriter, writing "In and out the Window", which was a hit for Eric "Monty" Morris. This success gave him the chance to make his recording debut in 1962, instantly finding success with singles such as "Rough and Tough" and "When You Call My Name" (a duet with Patsy Todd) for producer Arthur "Duke" Reid. Further success  with singles for Reid in the mid-1960s, Clement "Coxsone" Dodd (a duet with Ken Boothe on "Worlds Fair"), and Prince Buste, Gladstone Anderson (on "Just Like a River") and Hortense Ellis. In the late 1960s and early 1970s he recorded with several producers, including Bunny Lee, Lee "Scratch" Perry, and Sonia Pottinger. These included further material with Todd as Stranger & Patsy.   In 1971 he emigrated to England, where he toured extensively, and moved on again to Canada in 1973, settling in Toronto. He worked as a machinist in the Tonka Toy factory in Toronto and later opened the first Caribbean record shop in Toronto His first album, "Forward in the Land of Sunshine", was released in 1976, with a handful of further albums released over the next ten years, on his own label. In 2006, Cole released his first album in twenty years, Morning Train, a collaboration with Jah Shaka. Cole is featured in the 2009 documentary Rocksteady: The Roots of Reggae, in which he and other stars of the rocksteady era reunited to record a new album of the same name, released in August 2009. Cole's son, Squiddly, followed him into a music career, working as a drummer for artists including Ziggy Marley , Amy Winehouse, Mutabaruka, and many more. www.crsradio.com ,www.caribbeanradioshow@gmail.com  661-467-2407
