Poljanšek je deloval v Burundiju, Kongu in Ruandi. Ves čas je delal v mizarskih delavnicah, kjer je mlade učil mizarskega poklica. Njegovo delo je bilo oznanjevanje veselega oznanila po vzoru svetega Jožefa delavca, oziroma Jezusa Kristusa v Jožefovi nazareški delavnici.Na avstrijskem Koroškem bo spet potekala t.i. misijonska tombola. Župnija Šentjakob in Višja šola za gospodarske poklice v Šentpetru na avstrijskem Koroškem za mlade v Bolgariji in v Paragvaju prireja dobrodelno 48. tombolo, ki bo v četrtek, 7. marca 2024. Z zbranim denarjem bi radi podprli napredek mladih v turistični šoli „Ivan Marangosov“ v Aprilzih v Boglariji. Ideja misijonske tombole se je porodila sredi 70-ih let prejšnjega stoletja. Skozi leta se je spremenila: na začetku preprosta tombola je postala misijonska tombola, zdaj pa je dobrodelna tombola.

Back in 2017, the Gander Tombolo Multicultural Expo kicked off it's very first event. It's been going strong and growing every since - despite having to go virtual for a few years thanks to Covid-19. the Expo is all about showcasing and celebrating cultural diversity. That celebration is back this weekend and all in-person again, and will feature crafts, food and live performances. ST. PIUS X l PATRON OF THE COMMUNICANTS AND PILGRIMS FEAST DAY: AUGUST 21 Our saint for today was an admirable Pope who promoted daily Communion for Catholics and frequent recourse to the Sacrament of Reconciliation. He successfully fought against modernism which was destroying the life of the Church and introduced reforms to improve the life of the faithful. He is no other than St. Pius X. St. Pius was born to a peasant family on June 2, 1835, in Riese, Treviso, Italy, second among ten children. His parents, though poor, valued education and sent him and his nine siblings to school. Each day, he had to walk 12 kilometers to and from the school. At a young age, Giuseppe studied Latin under his village priest and afterwards went for further studies in Veneto. In 1850, he received the tonsure from the Bishop of Treviso and was given scholarship and finished his classical, philosophical and theological studies with distinction. On September 18, 1858, he was ordained a priest and became chaplain at Tombolo where he also studied canon law and the writings of Thomas Aquinas. He became archpriest of Salzano and in that place worked hard begging money from benefactors to restore the church and expand a hospital for the poor. He made sacrifices to assist the sick during the time that cholera devastated Italy early in 1870. He was named canon of the cathedral and chancellor of the Diocese of Treviso, and was spiritual director and rector of the seminary. He tried to bring religious instruction to many rural areas in the Diocese, and to students who had no opportunity to attend Catholic schools. On November 1884, he was appointed Bishop of Mantua. Then on June 12, 1893 he was made a Cardinal by Pope Leo XIII and appointed Patriarch of Venice. After the death of Pope Leo XIII, Cardinal Sarto was elected to the pontificate. As Pope, he was not ashamed to show his humble origins. He wore a pectoral cross made of gilded metal to remain poor and simple. He also refused the favors being given by other Church leaders to members of his family. He wanted them to remain poor. He himself was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis. He was also known to be a lover of children and taught catechism to them. He carried candy in his pockets and talked to children about topics that interested them. During his pontificate, many Marian images around the world were granted canonical coronation and prestigious honor. He officially restored the use of Gregorian chant which was temporarily disregarded in favor of the new musical styles. He promoted the faithful use of the Breviary for priests to enhance their work for holiness. He made special emphasis on the Eucharist and liturgy and promoted daily reception of Holy Communion and frequent Confession. He also decreed that First Communion be made at the age of 7, the age of discretion, not 12, as was usually practiced. According to him “Holy Communion is the shortest and safest way to heaven.” This devotion to Holy Communion earned for him the title “Pope of the Blessed Sacrament.” The pontificate of St. Pius was inspired by his desire “to restore all things in Christ.” He therefore worked to promote Liturgy, the Missal, the Breviary, the Catechism, Ecclesiastical chant, Codification of Canon Law and Catholic Social Action. His soul returned to its Creator on August 20, 1914. His will and Testament contained these words: “I was born poor, I have lived poor, and I wish to die poor.” He was canonized by Pope Pius XII on May 29, 1954. Tra Pisa e Livorno c'era il Tombolo, zona malfamata dominata da meretrici e delinquenti. Fu il regime fascista a bonificare le paludi ed inventarsela dal nulla. Tirrenia era stata pensata come località balneare e serviva qualcosa di speciale per convincere i borghesi a comprare le costose villette. Grazie ad un regista fallito e un rampollo di casa Agnelli, Tirrenia ospitò i primi studi cinematografici moderni d'Italia, diventando nel giro di pochi anni la "Hollywood sull'Arno". Seguiteci mentre vi raccontiamo l'epopea di questo ambizioso esperimento e di come fu ucciso dalla megalomania del Duce. Di quegli stabilimenti all'avanguardia rimangono solo le memorie di chi vi ha imparato il mestiere. Eppure sarebbe bastato poco per trasformare il sogno in realtà. Nel 1957 un produttore inglese stava per scegliere Tirrenia per realizzare una serie di film tratti da romanzi d'azione di cui aveva acquisito i diritti. San Pio X, nato a Riesi nell’anno 1835, provenne da una modestissima famiglia rurale. Studiò nel seminario di Padova con risultati eccellenti, ed operava per quasi 20 anni poi nelle parrocchie di Tombolo e di Salzano. A quarantanni fu chiamato alla curia di Treviso dove diviene direttore spirituale del seminario e canonico della cattedrale.

What exactly is merletto al tombolo? Well, it is a very old art form that harks back to the age of Caterina de' Medici. It is an antique way of making lace by hand. Anna Maria Gherardi, who lives in Arezzo, has done this type of work since she was a girl and during her childhood, Debora remembers hearing the noise the spools of the threads made always in the background as her mom worked on her roundtable creating pieces of lace that she put together later to make things like napkins and tablecloths.
