In this prize-winning essay for the 2021 Bigelow Institute for Consciousness Studies essay contest, Dr. Ruickbie examines the evidence for the survival of consciousness after death (“life after death”). Initially skeptical, he found that there was sufficient evidence from a wide variety of sources, including apparitions, reincarnation, near-death experiences, after-death communication, and premonitions, that met the contest's criteria of being “beyond reasonable doubt.”Such claims are often dismissed as contravening the laws of physics; however, Ruickbie takes the ground-breaking approach of organizing the evidence as eye-witness testimony to the "block" universe (in which past, present and future exist at the same time) described by Albert Einstein and Hermann Minkowski; and finds further support in the latest theories and findings of Quantum Physics for what Ruickbie calls “timetanglement” and “cloud consciousness.” Using a novel framework inspired by Charles Dickens, this is a readable and convincing account of a complex and highly debated subject.BioDr Leo Ruickbie, FRHistS, FRAI, ARPS, PhD (Lond), MA, BA (Hons), ACIQ, Associate of King's College London, is a Visiting Fellow in Psychology at the University of Northampton, where he is a member of the Exceptional Experiences and Consciousness Studies research group.Described as a ‘leading historian and sociologist of the paranormal' by the Daily Express newspaper (print) and ‘a leading expert on the paranormal‘ (express.co.uk online), Dr Ruickbie specialises in controversial areas of human belief and experience, sometimes called ‘exceptional human experiences'. A phrase coined by Rhea White in 1990, exceptional human experience is ‘an umbrella term for many types of experience generally considered to be psychic, mystical, encounter-type experiences, death-related experiences, and experiences at the upper end of the normal range, such as creative inspiration, exceptional human performance' (White, 1994:5).Dr Ruickbie is closely involved in the work of the Society for Psychical Research as a member of Council, former Editor of its Magazine and a member of its Spontaneous Cases Committee. In this episode, Lisa and Jess discuss:Looking at school profiles can help you and your student better understand how their school uses GPA.Understanding how colleges recalculate GPAs and how your student can use GPA calculators to better grasp their standing. Identifying the five core classes that most colleges use to generate the recalculated GPA used in admissions and what grades won't matter on the transcript. Why grade inflation is a huge problem, including the inability of colleges to interpret a transcript accurately. Key Takeaways: GPA is not standardized across high schools, so colleges recalculate it. They typically only use core academic classes from 9-11 grade.Weighted GPAs are not very meaningful since every school calculates them differently. Focus on unweighted core GPA. Grade inflation is also a major issue, making GPAs less reliable indicators of college readiness.Colleges and universities do not typically see senior-year grades because of the timing of application deadlines. While a weighted GPA or inflated grade might feel good to your teen or you, it does not help with college applications or add meaning to transcripts.  “A GPA is a grade point average. When you finish sophomore year with a 3.1, you're not actually going to be able to increase that GPA significantly by the end of junior year. That should not deter you from trying really hard to increase your GPA.” – Jess ChermakAbout Jess Chermak: Jessica Chermak is an Independent Educational Consultant with over a decade of experience in academia and helping students navigate the college admissions process. She graduated from Chapman University with a BA in Psychology, and was awarded the SMART Scholarship to attend the University of Denver for an MA in Forensic Psychology. Carolyn and Ian both develop on the idea of communication and how even non-verbal signs can tell a story to the customer or guest that represent the company or business in a certain light and effectively narrate the need to the receiving end. Carolyn then explains how she and her company are able to help somebody who is just starting out and does not have much in terms of physical locations or spaces and how much does that matter in the overall process. Carolyn then describes how the different users of a space all impact how you design and layout the physical space everyone is in, and who those users could be. Carolyn then elaborates more about how the final user is the most important part of the thinking process when suggesting a solution. In the end, Carolyn shares some final remarks and invites people to see the work they've done and reach out if they have any questions.  Parts: 0:00 – Guest Intro 6:11 – Communication 10:34 – Early Workings 19:04 – Subscribe! 19:29 – Business Workings  24:14 – Usage 31:57 – Guest Outro About Carolyn Boldt: Carolyn is the VP and Director of Design for Crossfields. In this episode, Cindy T. DeBonis, Postpartum & Breathwork Practitioner and Professional Member of Postpartum University joins us with her incredible knowledge of breathwork and how that impacts so much of our health. This is a fascinating conversation because we're breathing all the time but we don't think about how much our breath connects with the health of our mind and body. Cindy T. De Bonis is a Postpartum & Breathwork Practitioner who helps overwhelmed pregnant and postpartum moms get out of their chaotic minds with simple mindfulness tools.Let's dive into how this incredible tool you always have at your disposal is a critical part of your health and well-being in motherhood. In this episode, we're sharing: The two types of breathwork (intentional practice and daily awareness) and how you can incorporate them into your routines.  The importance of understanding the body's states of being: rest and digest vs fight or flight and how your breath determines which state you're in. Some techniques for diaphragm breathing for mental and physical postpartum recovery. The most important thing to take away from this conversation is that it's not necessary to dive headfirst into an extensive breathwork practice. Rather, start where you are and focus on your breath a few times a day. During this conversation, Cindy will give you some practical and amazing tips for exactly how you can get started and the research to support exactly why you'll want to. ****For more juicy tips, information, and links you absolutely want to check out, go to:https://postpartumu.com/breath-as-medicine-postpartum-university-podcast-ep119/

After graduating from the University of Delaware with a double major in Marketing and Management, she worked for the National Basketball Association (NBA). Despite the perks of travel and working with professional athletes, she felt unfulfilled, except when working with grassroots organizations to develop recreational programs for kids. This experience led Melanie to pursue a career in teaching and athletic coaching. She ultimately earned her Master's degree in Student Personnel Services from Montclair State University and a Certificate in College Counseling with Distinction from UCLA.  As a high school counselor for over 10 years, Melanie was always drawn to the college process. At the same time, utilizing her entrepreneurial nature, she founded Admit U Consulting to focus solely on working with students and families outside of the high school setting. She quickly emerged as a leader in the counseling office and ended her career at Morristown High School as the College Counselor. In 2015, she left public education to manage Admit U full-time. Melanie is a Professional Member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), a member of the Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA), and sits on the National Advisory Board for a private liberal arts university. A bite from a dog can have many ramifications. These can include the emotional impacts on the dog's guardians, or the dog practicing an undesirable behavior, or even the potential fate of the dog. And of course in our litigious society, we often will see civil and even criminal ramifications when a dog inures a person or other animal. For this episode of Fresh Bites on The Bitey End of the Dog, I chat with Melissa McMath Hatfiled who is an expert on expert witness work in dog bite cases.  Melissa does an excellent job of breaking down what can happen when a bite incident ends up in court, and what to expect from both the plaintiff and defendant sides. For additional resources on helping dogs with aggression, visit:https://aggressivedog.comAbout Melissa:Melissa McMath Hatfield, MS, CBCC-KA, CDBC, has combined her experience as a trial consultant and her passion for the human-canine relationship to develop and strengthen the canine-human relationship through understanding, knowledge, and empathy.  Hatfield earned a master's degree in counseling psychology (1981) and is a retired Licensed Psychological Examiner. As owner of McMath Trial Consultants for 42 years, her area of specialization has been in jury selection, developing jury profiles, focus groups, case presentation, voir dire, and witness preparation.
